Beth Kincaid left her hot temper and unhappy childhood behind and created a life in the city free from untidy emotionalism, but even a tidy life has danger, especially when it falls apart.

In the midst of her personal disasters, Beth is called back to her hometown of Preston, a small town in southwestern Virginia, to settle her guardian’s estate. There, she runs smack into the mess she’d left behind a decade earlier: her alcoholic father, the long-ago sweetheart, Michael, and the poor opinion of almost everyone in town. As she sorts through her guardian’s possessions, Beth discovers that the woman who saved her and raised her had secrets, and the truths revealed begin to chip away at her self-imposed control.

Michael is warmly attentive and Stephen, her ex-fiancé, follows her to Preston to win her back, but it is the man she doesn’t know who could forever end Beth’s chance to build a better, truer life.

First I have to mention that I love the cover of this book! Beautiful and relaxing are the words that come to mind. The book is about a woman named Beth Kincaid, and how she struggles to come to terms with her past and in turn, has to decide how that will affect her future. Grace Greene tells a story of heartache, loss, love and forgiveness. There is also an element of danger and suspense, which will have you glued to the book. Once the characters and town were established, the story took off and I did not want to put it down! I think that my favorite part about this book is this one truth: You cannot run from your past. Beth tried to run from hers, but eventually she had to face it.

I loved the stories within the story, excerpts from the books that Beth would read! I found out that Grace Greene wrote these as well! A successful author of contemporary romance, I believe that Grace Greene can be successful at historical romances if she chose!

I did not expect to love this book as much as I did. For me, part of the appeal was that it was not a clear-cut romance in that there's one man and one woman who are obviously going to end up together. There are three men involved in Beth's life throughout the story, and while one of them is clearly not a good choice, the other two are both appealing in their own ways. I also love that it's very much a story about the heroine and things she needs to learn, not always in relation to men in her life. It read much more like women's fiction than romance to me, but there is a happily ever after at the end.

Really enjoyed this clean novel with VA setting and a few twists in the story. Enjoyed getting to know the main character. Was a reminder that even though we think our pasts don't affect our present decisions, many times it does... & that forgiveness helps us even more than those we forgive (especially those who believe they never do wrong - LOL). Enjoyable read & like this new-found author.

I very engaging story and I couldn't wait to see what happened next. It had a decent romance but I didn't really feel it. The story was good so I didn't deduct a star for that.

I didn't find this book particularly gripping. Some books are difficult to put down but for me, this wasn't one of them. I felt it plodded along until towards the end and then when the excitement broke out, it was a bit over the top. Without giving away too much, I felt the closing situation with her father should have been separate from the other drama that was going on. On the positive side, the dialogue was realistic and the characters believable. And it has a beautiful cover! The cover was what attracted me to the book.

Suspenseful Tale

This was an engaging story of suspense and figuring out what is important in life. Beth finds herself fired and as she decides to go home, gets the news that the woman who took her in as a child, has died. Enter her childhood crush, crazy ex-fiancee, her father she wishes was dead, a Goethe 16 year old girl, a handsome developer and a cat and there is all kind of crazy going on. Oh yes, there's also someone trying to kill her.

A surprising read

I read the synopsis and thought it would be something to occupy my work commute but found myself unable to stop reading. The book within the book made it even more interesting. I found myself wanting to know how it all turned out. Though I am never truly satisfied when I reach the end because I always want more. Romantics and those who love a little suspense will love this book. Happy reading 😊

When life gives us hurdles, we must face them. In this novel, losing a job, having a future with a selfish fiancee, and now the death of her guardian was all things that had to be faced. It was not easy to go back to the town where she was a rebellious youth and where old true loves would once again be around daily. But, she faced her ghosts and found out she had missed far more by running away. Her new found strength and persistence of reconciliation paid off.

Hope

This another good book by Grace! I expected to find out that someone in Preston was related Libbie. The characters are interesting and engaging. Beth is a strong person who had a difficult childhood and a lot of loss. This book was definitely action packed. I enjoy Grace' s style of writing.

heart stopping to heart warming

I loved being a part of Beth’s growth and journey, tragedy and hate had hardened Beth for so Long, reading here change throughout the story warmed my heart. There were characters to love and hate and the story is well written, thoroughly enjoyed my read

One of the most annoying things of this book was the constant referencing of a book her Aunt had written. Not just an applicable paragraph or sentence, it was pages and pages. If I wanted to read that genre I wouldn't have been in this book. It was filler. Really disappointed. Should have been a Novella and left the crap out.

A nice 2 book series.

Beth and Michael have known each other since they were children. Their experiences not are much different. Beth discovers something about the woman who raised her and set her life in a whole way. These books have some different experiences that I think you will enjoy reading y. Have fun !!!

I would make this a 3.5 book. Not sure why I didn't really care for the book. It had its twists and surprises but there were parts I didn't care for. I really had no interest in the book part having to do with a person writing a book within the book I was reading. It just seemed to have things which didn't feel right. and I was surprised because I usually really enjoy her books.

Links its Hope by Grace Green. Very descriptive of the country side, and the long time residents.

Grace Greene makes you see inside the unforgiving past of Kate. Finding her love from way back as a child makes you think, can your anger blind you to love. Loved this story.

Not for me

I really tried to stick with this but after getting halfway through, I felt like the story was moving so slow and there were so many characters brought into the story, I had trouble keeping them all straight. Couldn’t finish.

Love Lessons Learned

Some people learn best the hard way, through resistance and st.ruggle. But they learn it well and are happier for it. I enjoyed this story and would recommend it.

Story of a young lady who inherited a large amount of property from her father and had a chance to sell it but her heart told her to keep some for herself and sell parts of it to benefit the town people instead to a large piece to become amused park. This is a very good read.

The writer has a very good heart and she can share it in many different ways. I sure do recommend this book.

A great read to get lost in

A really pleasant and enjoyable book!
I like this author and plan to read more of her books.
The undertones of life’s sentiments are also nicely interwoven into the story.

Suspenseful, and thankfully a happy ending

Beth has no idea what kinds of issues she will face as she returns to her hometown. She is very uncertain about what plans to make for her future. I grew irritated at her for not making her feelings with her “fiancé”.
