Twin Cities #2

Coach's Son

Rate this book
Two brothers. One obsession. And I'm the prize they both crave.

Written as a standalone sequel. Can be read without needing to read the first book in the series.

I’m the Coach’s son.
Freshly drafted to the Minnesota Lumberjacks, living the dream—or at least pretending to.
A rookie with the spotlight on my back, a British boyfriend who worships me like I’m the sun of his universe, and a father whose attention is solely on my former best friend—now his fiancé.

Everything looks perfect.
But perfection cracks easy.

His name is Drew Evans.
My boyfriend’s twin.
Tatted, venomous, and built from chaos.
He plays goalie like he’s possessed—on and off the ice. Every glance feels like a sin to be indulged.

I told myself I could resist him.
That I wouldn’t let his hands, his words, or his ravenous hunger soak in my flesh.

But how long can I resist the dripping ink?
Because when he whispers, "That's a good boy," all I can think about is falling.
And God help me, I've never ached to land on my face until now.

For him to ruin, deceive, and manipulate every fiber of my soul.

Coach's Son is a slightly dark, high-spice sports romance about two brothers feening for the same guy. Perfect for those who want a chaotic, messy ride with a touch of humor.

For mature audiences.

I only finished this book because I wanted to know which twin he ended up with.
My mind’s split clean down the middle—the man who loves me and the one who wants to own me. Charlie’s devotion wraps around me like armor, a knight guarding his prince, swearing loyalty with every kiss of my ass. While Drew lurks in the shadows, a predator sharpening his teeth.

As soon as I read the blurb, I immediately had to read this book! I love dark romance, and sports romance is one of my favourite MM genres. One twin trying to steal the other's boyfriend is my catnip and I dived right in, expecting a delicious story of temptation, seduction, and betrayal. Eric McMann delivered on all of that, but in a way that stripped the enjoyment of the concept from me. It didn't take long for me to completely loathe the 3 main characters- and I find it very difficult to enjoy a book when I wish they'd all go into the woods together and never come back. Austin is weak and whiny, Drew is a megalomaniac with delusions of grandeur and Charlie is somehow simultaneously blah and obnoxious. They are all rude and emotionally immature. At first it was funny, but it soon became very tiresome as each character devolved and became increasingly unappealing. Clearly I am not the target audience for this book. While I really enjoy all the tropes and am in mourning over the waste of such a great concept, I must be able to find a shred of decency in at least one character. I was rooting against the characters by the 30% mark, and it just kept getting worse.
I intend to never allow him to forget what he owes me. I’ll peel back the shine, strip his lad down to his rawest edges, show him what festers beneath all that blind devotion and pretty-boy charm. I’ll dig until I find the cracks, and then I’ll pry them wide open. By the time I’m finished, Charlie won’t be staring at some golden forever. He’ll be staring at a wreck—his wreck. A trembling cheater who can’t meet his eyes without remembering how exquisite it felt to fall to the heathen.

I loathed Austin, Drew and Charlie by the end, which was abrupt and unsatisfying. At that point I was just thankful it was over, but it wrapped up so quickly that it felt like the author also wanted to be done. In all fairness, while the writing wasn't for me, it wasn't objectively bad. It did inspire a full range of negative emotions in me. There are also a ton of quotes from the book that I thought were quite good. I think the book needs another review for punctuation errors and the overabundance of weird metaphors became very tiresome after awhile, but overall it showed real promise. If you don't need to like the characters in the book you're reading, you will probably enjoy the book for the most part. I would recommend this book to fans of M.N. Bennet, who is on my permanent Do Not Read list.
Desire’s always sweeter when it’s laced with a bit of loathing.

Lastly, given my distaste for the book, I know this is a minor quibble but 🙄

I support cheating. But I do NOT support this.

This book is what happens when people pursue what they want to the exclusion of all shame and decency.

Okay, so this book has a brotherfucker. No, not the fun kind. The kind where the MC gets with one twin then later with the other one. But wait. There's MORE.

Though, to be fair, these twins spend so much more time inside him thinking about each other than him, that it got me thinking, 'Look, folks, you don't have to do this roundabout thing. If you need to........do what you need to do.'

Because there's no good reason you're both in this man at separate times and each of you is focused on how much better you're giving it to him than your twin would.

Can y'all at least finish first?

And also, why are you MOST turned on by people your twin has fucked? How do you land on that particular kink?

Did you try something else first? Feet? Piss? No? Just guys Charlie has been in? Oh. Okay.

It's actually funny that this is written with 3 alternating POVs. One for each twin and one for Austin.

Diabolical.

Drew is so full of himself, too.

'My prick is a fricking miracle. My cream is a blessing.'

Gah.

Austin is.....well. What do you say about someone who was seduced by his boyfriend's twin in less than 24 hours? Wonder if the whole same face, same body deal did half the work.

'How would he feel right now? Knowing that I’m thinking about his darker half. Aching for the cock of the night, instead of the day?'

😂😂😂😂THE FUCK is this man on about? Cock of the night? Too much drama.

"You can tell yourself you’re devoted to Charlie, but your cock answers to me.” is a very funny thing to say, considering this guy goes home and let's Charlie fuck him raw while thinking of you. So, maybe since it's his identical twin, Austin's cock is answering to him regardless?

I don't know how Drew did the math on this one.

"I can't do this anymore."

The 'THIS' in question? Being overwhelmed by thoughts about his boyfriend's twin.

Again. Met this guy less than 24 hours ago.

To nobody's surprise, Austin lets Drew fuck him.

Multiple times. Multiple positions. Creampies galore.

Gets a back tattoo of his name.

Ghosts Charlie. For an illustration of how determined he was, him and Charlie play on the SAME FUCKING TEAM.

Now he has Drew in the stands cheering him on and shit.

Teammates looking at Charlie with pity. Because your ex has your brother's name tatted? They cucked you?

And THEN the guilt kick in.

But like the deviant he is, he can't even apologize properly.

'I shouldn’t have run away. I should have had the balls to tell you the truth about your brother, how much I wanted his disgusting dick, that I was over your sweetness. Tired of your sugar-sweet devotion that was giving me cavities, bordering on a root canal.'

Um. Okay, so. Maybe there's a level of detail that's NOT necessary.

You should NOT have had the balls to say that. Fuck knows why you're saying it now.

"I’m sure you felt like throwing in the towel. Especially after you found out what happened between me and Drew. That takes resilience to keep going.”

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂How uplifting.

All this to later want to spin the block AND GET BACK WITH CHARLIE, WHOM HE CHEATED ON.

“Did you miss me when my wanker of a brother was balls deep in ya?”

You know what, Charlie, I'm glad you're asking the pertinent questions because he did not miss you.

Was writhing on it and calling him 'King' and 'Master'.

It slipped out and he put it back in and said 'ngh'.

He told him he was in love with him. Was aching for his cock of the night.

I saw it with my own eyes.

Except —

“You are lucky I’m a stupid fucking bloke Austin. Because I’m obsessed with you. Obsessed with your duplicity and your filthy bum. I don’t give a rat’s arse if my brother’s had his way with you. Can’t get you out of my fricking head.”

EXCUSE ME, WHAT?!

Sigh.

Can't fix congenital stupidity.

Have at it.

I hope it feels good for you Charlie. When you're fucking him and looking at Drew's name all over his back? When he says he loves you and you remember he told Drew as well? When you remember how he told Drew he wasn't in love with him but the IDEA of him?

In love with the idea of a man who's nothing like you.

Well. Aside from the physical.

I hope it feels good.

Honestly I thought this was going to end with the twins sharing him and I was mad at it, but then it went where it went and now I'm even madder.

CAN YOU IMAGINE BEING A TEAMMATE IN THAT LOCKER ROOM?

Nah, I need a shelf for cuckoldry. This is generational.

Hated this. But I must admit, I was GAGGED. Unfortunately will NOT be able to forget this.

I blame you, Sandy. You have sent me to places I wouldn't have gone with a gun.

5 stars because I’m a slut! I don’t care anymore. This book is for me. We are almost nearing the end of this year and it is time to come clean: I love the cheating trope. The immorality? The wrongness? The tension? I was salivating. My skin was itching. My body is fucking alive.

I received an eARC from Gay Romance Reviews. These are my honest thoughts and opinions.

There are so many things that I could say about this book. I won't go into detail for all of it, but I will say that this is one of my least favorite books I've read in a long time. I was hoping for a heated, dark romance with some tension and angst between brothers. I'm not sure what I got, but it wasn't any of those things.

There's absolutely no build up. Austin is with Charlie, sickeningly in love and having sex constantly. Then he has two extremely short in person interactions with Drew where they don't even have a conversation and Austin is suddenly obsessed with Drew.

Meanwhile, Drew is in love with himself and has a looping internal monologue about how everyone falls in love with him, but never for one second of this book does he exhibit any reasons why that would be the case. Charm? Banter? Wit? Personality? Drew doesn't know them.

Drew and Charlie are both unlikeable love interests. Austin is an unlikeable main character. The plot doesn't make sense. I couldn't wait for this to end.

Spice Rating: 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes: semi-taboo • brothers share a love interest • sports romance • obsession

Coach’s Son cranks the tension and emotion up to eleven. Austin Schmidt is the golden boy — the coach’s son, fresh off his draft into the Minnesota Lumberjacks. But when his father’s attention shifts to his former best friend (now fiancé) and his own attraction turns toward his boyfriend’s twin, Drew Evans, the story spirals into a beautifully written storm of lust, guilt, and self-destruction.

Austin’s internal struggle hits hard — the ache for attention, the hunger for something darker, something real. Drew, the tattooed twin, is the definition of temptation: chaotic, magnetic, and morally gray in all the right ways. Their chemistry is wildfire — forbidden, emotional, and absolutely scorching.

The emotional unraveling is raw and perfectly paced. A few scenes could’ve benefited from more breathing room between the chaos, but honestly, that messy intensity is part of what makes it unforgettable.

Coach’s Son is dark, devastating, and utterly addictive — the kind of book that lingers long after the final whistle.

This one was an interesting read. It was a little darker than I was initially expecting and in a different way. When I read the premise for the story, I was really excited to dive in and get all the dark goodness of the temptation with one twin trying to steal his brothers boyfriend and sports being a part of the story. Right up my alley for what I love and enjoy! This one just fell short for me. I had a harder time connecting to and liking the characters. Austin is the golden boy and he is with Charlie who he loves and they are on the same football team. Austin is struggling though with it being his rookie year and recently finding out that his best friend is with his dad and they are getting married. He is now his ex best friend, seemingly due to this situation. Charlie is older and really believes Austin to the the one for him. They hit it off right from the start and have dived right in. Charlie has a twin who plays pro hockey and they do not get along. Drew has it out for Charlie and loves to sabotage his life due to what happened in their childhood with the father. Drew definitely has some issues and he is determined to meet and take Austin from Charlie now that his season is over. He starts planning on being around and darkly seducing/tempting him and it works very quickly. This part felt just a tad off for me as Austin wasn't overly drawn to him the first night they meet at a benefit when Charlie is around but just a day or so later when they are alone stretching it was very quickly different. It just made it harder to stay delved into and engaged with. The story seemed to be well written though and it had a interesting premise and idea. There is definitely a lot of push and pull with Austin for Charlie and Drew as they fight to draw him in and keep him. Austin has some weird reactions for things and what he ends up doing and going during football training. It just didn't jive for me. The characters were also hard to like. I have read dark stories and ones where one or more of the characters are major a****les and not had an issue and loved them and the story but it didn't work for me here. The ending didn't feel entirely satisfying for me either with the big, quick flip. This story was still one that I wanted to know who Austin ended up with and so I read the whole book and it wasn't overly hard to continue reading it. It just isn't a top read for me.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

I received this advanced readers copy from gay romance reviews this is my honest review.

After losing his best friend to his father. Austin is struggling on accepting the relationship. But he has a good relationship with his boyfriend and Charlie. And let’s just say that goes downhill really fast when he meets Drew the twin.
I’ve got to say this book is not for me. I just don’t like the characters from the very first chapter. How they all treated each other. After getting all three other points of view, I could not with them. Drew the bad twin has some mental health problems that he needs help with. And with everything that happened to him, it makes him think he’s the king of the world and that everyone should bow down to him. Then there’s Charlie the one that does not want to be in drama. And pretends oh it’s not there so I won’t deal with it. Also, he is oblivious to things around him and I just couldn’t with him either. And then we have Austin’s character and let’s just say this man is selfish. Going from one person to the other just because the other is not giving him what he wants. And then turns the back on the other one when he realized oh no, I didn’t love him. I love the idea of him. And I’ve gotta say the ending did not like the way any of it happened.

A hesitant three only because of the interesting plot concept that drew me in. It was really promising so I dove in without any hesitation just to be completely flabbergasted from the story itself. I have never been in a situation before, where the main characters are so mildly said unlikable and the plot line, lacking logic, believability and reasonability. At the end, I really loathed them.
I have to say the story is one shocking dichotomy - the writing itself is excellent, the idea behind the execution intriguing but the real problem is the character development and the way the plot was developed. My reviews are always about the good feelings a book evokes, the unforgettable details that make me long for a re read, the characters that enrich my reading experience. I want to stay true to myself and won't turn my review in unpleasant rant about the disappointment, the sorrow, the regret. Yes, I am a dark romance reader so it wasn't the triggers that turned me off.
Austin, Drew and Charlie are really a mess you don't want to meet!

So this book was not for me. I read other reviews and I actually liked the writing style and it was fast paced. But I didn't like the characters at all. I love dark romance a lot but I still need to be emotionally invested somehow. But I wasn't with this one. Also the choices the characters made were like soooo weird. No sorry. This was my honest review of this ARC.

1.75/5 stars! 1.75 stars for smutty scenes. But other than that, I couldn't get on board with this book. It is a prime example of a book where there are no heroes and every MMC is just a jerk who needs to find their way to therapy. They shouldn't be together and all morality for all 3 characters was non-existent.

Review for Coach's Son by Eric McMann

I will give this a strong 3-star. Not my favorite read this year, but it still was decent. I just wanted more out of it, and that's my want, not the author's. So I will give it a strong 3 stars. I would like to read something else by this author in the future to see where they go with their stories.

okay i have many thoughts.

the dynamics were crazy. the writing is interesting and wont be everyone’s cup of tea but i dont mind it. there should be a bit more proofreading though. but look a solid 3 stars because it kept me entertained and i genuinely want to know the ultimate ending.
it’s a fun concept: austin caught between charlie, the golden boy twin and drew, the brooding dark twin. interestingly i usually seem to gravitate towards the sunshine one in love triangles such as this but would you believe me if i said i think drew should end up with him👀👀. oopsie. sometimes the writing and pacing fell a bit flat but it still kept me entertained the whole time.

the ending was wild and abrupt. i think it’s because technically it’s unfinished but i was so confused how fast everything changed and how quickly austin’s thoughts 180’d. he loved charlie but he fell in love with drew but then he still loved charlie but he loved drew then all of a sudden he didn’t love drew anymore and charlie was his soulmate? even tho a few chapters previous he was confessing his love for drew and getting his name tattooed on him? huuuuh?
why did he end up with charlie in this one?😅 mf is tattooed with drew’s name 😭😭 like why did he suddenly want charlie back when so much of the book is him talking about how much he prefers drew to charlie. i had to laugh. i know technically the story is not finished (since the next book is about drew), but it’s so weird to me that after how much austin was saying that he never felt like that with charlie, that drew was the one, even after a fuck up (which was an accident 😭 but like what) going back to charlie is CRAZY WORK. he clearly loved drew more and differently than he loved charlie. and charlie is crazy for accepting that lmao.

lowkey i am interested enough to want to read the next book in this series where drew is the protagonist. dare i say i hope he gets austin ???? i think they should be the HEA tbh. according to the author there will be more drama with austin and charlie in the next book and tbh, austin & drew should end up together and he should pair charlie with someone else. the chemistry between austin & drew was way crazier than anything between austin & charlie. but now it kind of seems like he is keeping austin & charlie as endgame which is a weird choice, sorry.😭 who knows what the author is planning though.

I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

First let me say: I hope if you choose to read it you love it. I wish the author well and hope Eric goes on to have success with people who like his writing style.

I feel bad about this review. Usually I try my best to pick ARCs that I believe are good matches for me so I can support the author. On paper this one sounded great for all the following reasons: I haven't read a love triangle in a while. I don't mind reading books where cheating was involved so if that happened I'd be totally happy. I also love that push and pull of who the mc should choose. And for a brief flicker of time I thought this was going to be a somewhat taboo situation with Austin being in love with and together with both brothers in the end in some sort of way. I learned a new word while trying to describe this. Symbiosexuality: "an attraction to the energy, multidimensionality, and power shared between people in relationships" (definition from a Psychology Today article on the topic.)

What if part of Austin's push and pull between the brothers was that he was attracted to the relationship he saw between the brothers? The animosity, the fighting... and what if Drew was able to pull some darkness out of Charlie, and Charlie had been able to pull some light out of Drew? But it didn't go there.

What I really would have loved loved LOVED was if Austin had been a Vee or Hinge in a polycule with both brothers (hence the "somewhat taboo" idea), but alas, no.

But in this book the push and pull felt unrealistic. The writing style was laden with purple prose. So much so that I was shocked at how long Drew could go on about himself and his sexual prowess in his own mind. But it didn't stop with Drew. The internal monologues continued with the other characters too.

Some of the plot choices were...just... difficult to suspend my disbelief for. SPOILERS AHEAD: The statistical likelihood of being attacked by a wolf is so incredibly low, some websites liken it to being struck by lightning on a sunny day. There are numerous educational websites with sources. Here's just one with some recorded stats: https://wolf.org/wolf-info/factsvsfic... As a person who enjoys the outdoors, especially the wild places, I feel I am regularly educating people who imagine animals just jumping out of the trees to attack them. That’s just not how it works with many animals people fear irrationally.

The other thing that started me off wrong with the book was Drew going on and on about himself like he's some sort of magical sex god at the beginning. No, seriously I had to stop and go read the blurb again to see if I was in a paranormal romance.

I wanted to like this. It had all the things I thought I'd like, but I guess in the end the authors writing style just didn't match what I like in books. I hate that I didn't like it more. Again, I hope if you choose to read it you love it.

Thanks so much Eric McMann and Gay Romance Reviews for the book. I was given this book as an advance review copy (ARC) for free, and I am leaving this review completely voluntarily.

This is the second book in the series. It’s not mandatory to read the first one to follow along. I didn't, and I never felt lost but I could tell I was missing some context and character layers that returning readers would probably pick up on.

This story centers on Austin, Charlie, and Drew. Austin is the coach’s son and dating Charlie when the book begins. Charlie’s twin brother, Drew, is the resident “bad boy” and that’s where the tension begins. I was intrigued right away because I love messy, twin-love-triangle setups. The blurb promised drama, temptation, and a darker edge.

Unfortunately, this one didn’t quite work for me. I really struggled to finish it. Austin, our main character, grated on me from early on. I never connected with him, and some of his choices felt immature and frustrating rather than complex. The pacing felt uneven, with parts of the story dragging while other major moments were rushed. The plot itself felt disconnected. It felt like it was relying more on shock value and tension than on character growth.

overall, it just didn’t click. The writing was fine. There were flashes of strong emotional scenes and some good tension. I actually enjoy dark romance, so it wasn’t the themes or triggers that bothered me. My main motivation to keep reading was just to find out which twin Austin ends up with. Honestly, when I got there, it wasn’t even a surprise.

In the end, Coach’s Son had a premise I really wanted to love: sports setting, messy emotions, forbidden attraction. The execution just didn’t land for me.

Happy reading friends,
~ Maebae 💚

Coach’s Son — Eric McMann

Sports romance but make it taboo, toxic, filthy, and impossible to look away from.

Freshly drafted, spotlight-drenched golden boy…
A sweet British boyfriend who worships him…
And the one man he absolutely should not want?
His boyfriend’s twin brother.
And oh, this man is chaos wrapped in tattoos and sharp words.

Drew is temptation with teeth — aggressive, magnetic, reckless in a way that’s not just dangerous, but addictive. His energy jumps off the page: goalie ferocity, smug smirk, and “I want to ruin you just because I can” intensity. He is the problem, and he knows it.

The forbidden pull here is insane.
Brother vs. brother.
Good boy vs. self-destruction.
Desire that feels wrong, thrilling, and inevitable.

Every time Drew appeared on page, I braced for impact — and I loved every minute of it. The power plays, the push-pull, the “I shouldn’t want this but I do and now it’s consuming me” spiral? Peak MM dark-sport-romance energy.

This book leans into:

Taboo forbidden attraction

Brothers pining for the same guy

Good boy kink + praise + manipulation

Sports pressure, media heat, and secret obsession

Toxic temptation & emotional ruin

That delicious “I know you’ll fall for me — just a matter of when” attitude

And when Drew lets out a quiet “good boy”?
Yeah. Game over.
Morals? Who? We don't know her.

This isn’t gentle romance — it’s lust edging into obsession, emotional chaos disguised as control, and the thrill of skating along a razor-thin moral line without blinking.

If you want clean, healthy communication? Keep walking.
If you want angst, taboo desire, jealousy, chaos, heat, and a hero spiraling beautifully out of control? This is your rink.

Messy. Dirty. Tension-filled.
And deliciously entertaining from start to finish.

I ate it up. 🏒🔥.

I received this book as an ARC, and I’d like to share my honest opinion.
That said, I can’t give it more than 3 stars — but I also don’t want to give it less, because I truly appreciate the author’s effort and energy, even if the book didn’t deliver what I was hoping for.

I don’t like giving up on books… by around 26%, I already felt like I should stop. But no, I kept going. Big mistake.
And the problem is, I can’t really say anything good about this book — only that it could have had potential. Unfortunately, that’s where it ends.

About the story…
Yes, I know, Charlie is supposed to be the “good brother,” but somehow I just don’t see it. I should like him, but I can’t. Not to mention all the “good boy” and “Daddy” stuff gave me major secondhand embarrassment, and that marinara (or whatever) sauce scene… bleh 🤮

Austin is the kind of person who’s easily influenced — you can manipulate him without much effort. I did like that he accepted his desire for Drew. What I didn’t like was the way he communicated things with Charlie, but I could have looked past that.
What really bothered me was how one moment he’s happily throwing himself at Charlie, and then in the next chapter he’s confessing his love to Drew, letting Drew’s name be tattooed on him, only to, after one mistake (okay, maybe a serious one — but Drew did everything he could to save him, even though it was his fault), run straight back into Charlie’s arms and practically pledge eternal devotion to him…
To me, those two just didn’t fit together at all. If I love someone, I don’t jump on someone else just because it’s more exciting or something.

This book was one of my biggest disappointments this year.
For me, the moment Charlie ended up with Austin, the book flatlined. It’s a shame, because it could have been good.
Drew deserved the HEA with Austin.

SAFE VS. DANGEROUS

This is the story of Austin who is thrown in a emotional & forbidden love triangle with two brothers, where one of the brothers will stop at nothing till he has Austin for himself.

Austin is in a happy relationship with Charlie until Charlie's twin brother, Drew shows up. Drew is an overly self assured person, rude, has a disregard for others & just thinks highly of himself. A personality "that constricts around your throat like an anaconda".

We get all three POV in this story. Austin's internal struggle with wanting something that's being dangled in front of him. Charlie being the sweet boyfriend who is in real trouble of losing Austin to Drew. And Drew who will stop at nothing until he takes Austin away from his brother in any which way he can.

The author writes well when conveying the inner monologues but I feel like conversations could have been fleshed out more. Also there are certain words that really threw me out of the story because 1) they were used SO MUCH 2) Those words were kinda gross when being used in intimate settings. The ending was definitely rushed and I didn't care much for it.

I gratefully received an advanced e-copy & this is my honest review.

Coach's Son - ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Coach’s Son is a dark, emotional, and intoxicating read that pulls you straight into a web of forbidden desire, guilt, and self-destruction. Austin Schmidt, the coach’s son and freshly drafted rookie, is caught between family tension, media pressure, and a dangerously magnetic attraction to his boyfriend’s twin, Drew Evans. What unfolds is a raw, messy, and addictive story that explores identity, temptation, and the craving to be truly seen. The chemistry between Austin and Drew is electric — slow, sinful, and impossible to look away from.
Drew gives off major Damon Salvatore vibes — dark, brooding, and deliciously dangerous — and I loved the glimpses into the pain that shaped him. Austin’s internal conflict is written beautifully, though his moods sometimes gave me whiplash. Still, that chaotic energy fits the story’s tone. Charlie, the “nice” twin, didn’t leave much of an impression, but Drew absolutely stole the show. The tension, the angst, and the emotional unraveling make Coach’s Son a bold, addictive ride. Dark, devastating, and brimming with chemistry

I was devoured by Coach and his Son in Chapter one. It is one of those stories which seize your throat and do not release it till the end. The coach has a golden boy called Austin Schmidt who is torn between expectation and desire and witnessing him come to pieces was like such a crazy, emotional ride. I was hooked to the pages through his fight to live up to the image of everybody, and yet he was falling in love with Drew, the tattooed twin of his boyfriend.

The conflict between Austin and Drew is electric. Each glance, each stolen time is pregnant with feeling and desire. I adored the fact that their relationship was simultaneously wrong and inevitable, so dirty, forbidden, yet so human. It is jumbled, obscured, and full of sadness, and I could not help but side with them.

This book is the ideal combination of passion, pain and vulnerability. It is eloquently written, emotionally full and rife with that sort of raw intensity that lingers. When I had finished I only sat there in a daze still thinking of Austin and Drew. It is easily one of the most compelling stories I have read in a long time.

I really liked Coach's pass so I had high hopes for this one but boy did I struggle with it.

I liked the idea of the story with Austin being torn between Charlie (good twin) and Drew (bad twin). I do think that it could have been a good book but I don't think it was executed well. The plot was over shadowed by the adult scenes and I felt that the author was trying to hard to get across that Charlie and Drew were British. Between the use of bloody and lad

I did a search on kindle and it gave me a result of over 100 for the word bloody, now granted Drew does like a bloody Mary but as a British (Scottish) person I felt that it was used a little too much. They switched between calling Austin boy and lad. At one point he was a good boy and a good lad at the same time. Not sure if the author maybe meant to take one of them out and forgot but it didn't make sense to me.
Now we know that Charlie is already a little kinky with the daddy kink but I was a little confused to why in a middle of a game he had sweat dripping down his knickers but knickers are more commonly worn by women not men.

This was definitely a wild ride. The twin brother trope was really fun, with the forbidden nature.

I absolutely loved Drew, very Damon Salvatore vibes, dark, brooding, dangerous, we all love a villain. I really enjoyed seeing the first hints of understanding and depth around his past, getting a glimpse into what made him the way he is. I hope this gets explored even more in the next book.

Austin was great, and I felt there was some character development, although his personality did give me whip lash a bit at times. Also I know we are meant to feel sorry for Charlie as he's the 'nice' twin, but I just didn't care, (despite his interesting use of Marinara sauce, iykyk), team Drew all the way 😂

Overall, I really enjoyed this book. Some of the spice didn't quite hit the mark for me in relation to some of the terms that were a bit overused (prick, cream) but that's just my personal taste. It was a fun read and I will definitely read the sequel.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️ARC Reader & This is my Honest Review⭐️

*Coach’s Son* by Eric McMann is so much more than a sports story—it’s a heartfelt and deeply emotional journey about family, ambition, and identity. The story follows the son of a legendary coach who’s constantly battling the pressure to live up to expectations—both on and off the field. McMann does an incredible job of capturing that raw tension between wanting to make your own mark and being overshadowed by someone else’s legacy.

The characters are authentic, the dialogue feels real, and the emotional moments hit hard. You don’t have to be a sports fan to connect with this book—it’s about perseverance, love, and the complicated relationships that shape who we become.

Eric McMann writes with passion and insight, making *Coach’s Son* a standout read for anyone who loves character-driven stories filled with heart, grit, and redemption. Highly recommend!

COACH'S SON is a dark sports romance. I am all about a dark taboo mm romance. One twin is after the other's boyfriend. But this one just didn't hit for me.

Charlie and Austin are on the same football team. They just fit and work well together. Austin is having a crisis after finding out his best friend and dad are getting married. Charlie is very supportive of Austin. Charlie has a twin, Drew, who is a hockey player and out to get Charlie in any way he can. Messing with Austin seems the best way possible when Drew sees how happy Charlie is with him. The basic plot was good but the characters were all unlikeable for me. I honestly didn't care who ended up with who. I normally fall hard for the bad boy with questionable morals but Drew just wasn't it for me. I did finish but fought to get to the end of this one.

I was given a free copy of this book to read and review for Gay Romance Reviews.

lemon drop, black dahlia, black velvet, Grindr, Mr. McCockRing, truffle, Elvis, live-action love, peanut butter

In the content warning, the author says this book is dark. Boy, is it ever! Well, to be fair most of the darkness is in the beginning. It's also a love triangle with wry humor on Austin's part. I was shaking my head at Austin and his romantic journey with Drew, and his treatment of Charlie when he was with Drew.

The book opens with Charlie and Austin in love and living together. They're both on the MN Lumberjacks. Then Charlie's identical twin Drew inserts himself into their lives, and more importantly into Austin's head. Drew is a pro hockey goalie, and hates Charlie with a passion. Charlie is like sunshine, while Drew is the darkest night.

The beginning was hard to read through. But, once I hit halfway, I got invested and had to read the book to the end. I enjoyed reading it, but it's an abrupt ending. I still recommend this.

The tone was set as an intense brooding atmosphere but unfortunately the internal monologues kept repeating and didn’t stop. There was clearly some historic trauma on all fronts but that was never fully developed so I was unable to build empathy for any one of the MCs.
I personally don’t mind cheating in a book especially if it is essential canon to the storyline but a lot of readers won’t like it and if it triggers you, please don’t read.
They were sportsman but with psychology playing a big role in today’s sports I cannot believe any of these characters being a sporting success.
I didn’t believe the sports or the ‘love’ story and did not connect with the characters.
Even the spice was more korma than madras. The bondage scenes actually left me a bit bored.
The blurb made me expect something that I didn’t get.

I enjoyed most of this book, although I personally was hoping for a different ending.
The story follows Austin, a young man in a relationship with 16-year older Charlie, whose twin brother Drew also has his eye on Austin.
The two brothers have completely different personalities, one being light and sweet, while the other is dark and traumatized. And Austin, well he thinks he knows what he wants - until he isn't so sure.
This story was definitely a bit of an emotional roller coaster ride and Austin's changes of heart and mind gave me a bit of whiplash at times. He deals with so much angst throughout the story.
There are some dark topics that are touched on and one of the MMCs has obsessive, possessive stalker tendencies.
While the story does come to a close, there is a sequel which follows these three characters, although the focus is on the one who didn't get his HEA.
