In the Same Place is an empowering poetry and fine art photography collection that explores themes of identity, immigration, displacement, and emotional healing. With raw, intimate poems and evocative imagery, this book invites readers into a deeply personal story of home, loss, and renewal.
Inspired by her “A book is a house built by words,” author Mia MP has created a literary refuge for those navigating the complexities of belonging. As a symbol of shared stories, one of the poems in this collection is titled by a reader from a community contest. You'll also discover quotes from talented indie authors throughout the pages, because this book is not just a personal journey; it's a safe space built for all who need a home.
Told in three parts, the collection mirrors a journey familiar to ROOTS – childhood, homeland, first love, innocence, farewells, and the pain of leaving family behind.DIASPORA – nostalgia, cultural dissonance, toxic relationships, immigration struggles, and emotional exile.REFORM – rebuilding, finding new friendships, rediscovering love, and creating a new sense of home.Alongside the poetry, a powerful visual narrative unfolds through a fine art photography project that explores the symbolism of feet, our first means of movement and memory. Feet carry our stories through grief, exile, joy, and return. They leave traces of where we've been and who we are becoming.

I am sitting here, trying to compose the perfect review for this incredible work and there just aren’t any or enough words to fully describe what this authors words do to my soul, mind and spirit. To feel emotions like I do when reading her poetry, saddens me when I read the last one but in the same breath, my heart is so full. She has included so many surprises for her friends, it truly shows who this woman is, not only as an author but as a person. Such a beautiful collection. Thank you Mia.
In the Same Place is the second book of poetry for the Inner Journey Series.
Mia's poetry is special. Along with her beautiful, soulful words, Mia brings us on a journey of her fine art photography as well. I love how this is a family affair, with her sister being the model throughout this poetic adventure.
This book of poetry is evocative, bringing us through time and place. I resonated with the poems which spoke of immigrating to a strange new country, the experiences of having to build a new life, make new friends, find new goals, accept new situations and challenges. Throughout the book, you are brought to the place Mia grew up in (Havana). You can almost imagine her grandparents; her love her her country of origin, and feel the longing that takes place being far from home.
There is also a strong sense of self and purpose, of finding oneself within her poetry. As well as this, there are the footsteps taken to find oneself, find love and live through all these experiences. I think these are experiences and emotions we have all felt, we can all understand and empathize with on many levels.
One of my particular favourites was called, Greenhouse. The yearning in this poem, of reminiscing of home and times gone, of remembering the experiences of another place and time really hit home for me. The end, 'a land watered with tears bears no fruit,' is powerful, because it reminds us that if we dwell on the negatives, nothing good will grow.
Another favourite and a beautiful surprise was the poem, 'Dance floor.' And to know why I love it so much, one would have to read it! (Thank you, Mia). Also, I have to make note of the lovely photography scattered throughout the book. Each carefully considered work travels through the book, complimenting Mia's poetry perfectly.
If you love poetry, or are new to it, give these books a read. They are beautiful.
Words can't describe the beauty and the magical magnetism of this book. The poems, the photos, the quotes... everything about this book is just breathtaking! Every word carries a meaning.
And if it wasn't enough, Mia added our footprints to her pages... mine and other authors... I am so honored! ♥️
Reading this book, took me into inner spaces of deep reflection, delight and depth. The words and pictures bring forward stories that made me feel connected, and human. She speaks to pain but also hope. Insightful, open and honest. It was beautiful done!
I first bought In the Same Place as an ebook, but Mia MP's words touched me so deeply that I needed the physical book in my hands. I'm so grateful I did - the fine art photography is stunning, and holding this collection feels like holding something sacred.
Mia describes a book as "a house built by words," and she has truly created a refuge here. This isn't a collection to rush through. I found myself reading one poem, then closing the book to sit with it in peace and quiet, letting her words settle into the spaces in my own heart that needed them. The three-part journey - ROOTS, DIASPORA, REFORM - mirrors so much of what many of us carry: the ache of leaving, the struggle to belong, the courage to rebuild. When I read "Road to Myself" recently, I felt it speaking directly to my own journey. Mia has this remarkable gift for writing with such intimate honesty that you feel seen, understood, and less alone.
The photography project exploring feet as symbols of movement and memory is deeply moving - our feet carry our stories, our grief, our joy, and our return. Every visual element adds another layer of beauty and meaning.
This book is more than poetry - it's a safe space Mia has built for all of us who have ever felt displaced, who are searching for home, or who are finding the courage to build one anyway. Her gentle spirit and profound courage shine through every page.
Thank you, Mia, for sharing your soul with us. This book is a gift to the world.
In The Same Place is a five star read. In fact, it goes beyond that.
Once again, this author's ability to bring healing to my soul through her words is a talent most do not have. Each poem, each word, opened closed doors in my mind, and memories surfaced. The author writes with her soul, and in turn, her words touched my soul.
I highly recommend In The Same Place and At The Same Time to everyone. It's such an incredible experience to be able to connect with myself through another's words.
