An epic, soul-stirring love story about the transcendent magic of true love, in the tradition of Nicholas Sparks and Jojo Moyes, from a bestselling Australian author.
An elderly woman stands at the edge of a mountain, touching the clouds. As she prepares to fall into the abyss, she reflects on the one great love that defined her life - and the one regret that still haunts her. If only she could live her life all over again ...
Waking in the staff-only area of a plane, 26-year-old Zara Monroe shakes off a strange dream and returns to her duties as a flight attendant. With a troubled past behind her and a heart wide open to possibility, she lives for the adventure of the skies. When a chance meeting in Italy sparks an inexplicable connection with a handsome stranger, her world is forever changed. And when fate brings them back together, Zara instinctively knows their love is meant to be.
As Zara and Jay fall into the kind of deep, soulmate love most only dream of, their bond is tested by the past, by tragedy, and by a future that refuses to follow the rules. And as Zara keeps returning to her mysterious dreams of mountaintops and clouds, she begins to wonder ... can a love written in the stars rewrite the course of a lifetime?
One of Australia’s most cherished storytellers, Mandy Magro calls Hobart home, where she lives with her husband Des, their daughter Chloe Rose, two adored pooches, Sophie and Sherlock, and their much-loved cockatiel, Buddy Holly.
Surrounded by the dramatic beauty of Mount Wellington, sparkling waterways and the wild charm of Tasmania’s rugged landscapes, Mandy is finding endless inspiration in what she describes as heaven on earth. A passionate romantic and keen observer of the human heart, she writes emotionally rich stories that celebrate love, resilience, family and the enduring power of hope.
Whether she’s transporting readers to the sweeping Australian outback, where the scent of eucalyptus lingers and horses thunder across sunburnt paddocks, or weaving tender contemporary romances filled with second chances and unforgettable characters, Mandy’s novels capture the essence of Australian life with warmth, authenticity, heart and soul.
Beloved for her evocative storytelling and deeply emotional narratives, Mandy continues to enchant readers with stories that linger long after the final page is turned.
This wasn’t the typical Mandy Magro book or writing style, unfortunately. So much over the top adoration and unrealistic and very long descriptions of the same thing over and over again. I listened to the audiobook version and kept trying to give another chance. I listened to a few hours and would leave it and come back in a few days to see if I could get into it. I very rarely DNF a book and when I got to the first minute or so of Part 3 with 2 hours left of the audiobook, I could no longer do that to myself. This one wasn’t for me.
Zara has kept a secret since she was 10 years old. She spent years in Foster Care, moving from one place to another. Her best friend Suzanne works with her, and they travel the World as flight attendants.
This was a love story about families, friendships and identity. The pace is slow; there is drama and tender moments. I loved the way Zara meets the love of her life.
Thank you NetGalley and HQ Fiction for a chance to read and review this E-Book. Opinions expressed are completely my own.
Amalfi Coast, Italy. Zara Monroe is a flight attendant, after her life in foster care she wants to meet her knight in shining armour, for him to sweep her of her feet and ride off on a white horse, get married, live in a house with a white picket fence and have a family.
By chance she breaks a plate in a gift shop, a handsome guy comes to her aid picks up the pieces and for Zara its love at first sight. In a world before mobile phones, they forget to swap landline numbers and she has no idea Jay Maverick is just as smitten as her, he’s kicking himself for letting the woman of his dreams slip through his fingers.
As we know Australia is a small place, Zara and Jay are reunited, their love for each is profound and I would consider them soulmates, life isn’t easy and everyone has to face ups and downs, challenges, adversity, and tragedy, loss and health crisis.
Zara has a recurring dream, she’s on the top of a mountain and close to the clouds, and she’s an old lady, she falls and towards a man, the obvious reason is she and Jay both work in the airline industry, or is it because of her past and could she be seeing into future?
I received a copy The Cloud Catcher from Harlequin Australia and NetGalley in exchange for an unbiased review. Mandy Magro is known for writing bestselling rural romances and contemporary love stories, after penning so many books and this time she delivers something very different.
A deep narrative that looks at life, is love as endless as the sky, not matter what happens before and after and I hope so?
I enjoyed reading how main characters Zara and Jay weathered the storms together and stayed united, and the relationship they had with their best friends Suzanne and Mark four and a half stars from me and I highly recommend.
I've read 3 of Mandy's rural romance novels to date, as I've only recently discovered her books, so I was thrilled to receive the opportunity to read her newest offering.
This is unlike anything Mandy has written in the past. It really is an epic, sweeping love story, starting circa 1991, in a time before mobile phones.
Zara was raised in various foster homes from the age of 10, after escaping a tragic incident. She believes in the magic of one true love and has been waiting to find her person. She also has a dream of being on a mountain, high above the clouds and then she falls. This dream recurs several times throughout the novel, with slight variations each time.
Through serendipity, fate, magic, whatever you want to call it, Zara meets Jay while on a stopover in Sorrento (she's an air hostess) and they are both instantly attracted to each other. Unfortunately they are both too distracted to exchange home phone numbers, so it's up to the universe to work it's magic and bring them together.
What follows is a lifetime of love, family, friends, heartbreak, joy and all the things in between that goes with living a wonderful life.
This book should come with a tissue warning as there were times I could hardly see through my tears.
Thank you to NetGalley and HQ Books Australia for the digital ARC. All opinions are my own.
Big thanks to Harlequin for sending us a copy to read and review. A grand love story that will play the heart strings over and over and have you reaching the box of tissues. Mandy Magro takes her second break from a rural romance release and awards the reader with an epic romantic tale that spans years and decades. Zara Monroe is a successful flight attendant who has left her pained past behind and believes in the magic of love. Jay Maverick is a man of the air looking for the right woman. A chance encounter in Italy sparks a deep attraction and soon becomes a monumental love affair. Both trust in destiny and soulmates and their connection is tested with what life throws at them. Can a majestic love be endless like the sky and the stars……. Mandy’s second contemporary fiction title with a touch of magical realism is an affectionate, warm, tender, loving, joyous and gentle narrative with moments of sadness, sorrow and pain. Strong themes, good and bad, woven throughout giving you a birds eye view of a pure relationship. A lifetime of passion, emotions and affection in book form.
In The Cloud Catcher, Mandy Magro has written a whimsical tale of love that was destined to happen. Airline stewardess Zara Monroe and pilot Jay Maverick have a gorgeous meet-cute on Italy’s Amalfi coast, where both are on a break between flights. In a ceramics shop, she accidentally breaks a plate and they both reach down to pick up the pieces, inadvertently touching hands in the process. The sparks linger with each of them long after the encounter, though neither knows anything more about the other but their name, until an second meeting leads them on their romantic journey. This story has a somewhat ethereal feel to it as flight, the vastness of the skies and the ocean feature strongly. To me, it feels different to other Mandy Magro stories I’ve read, though it still carries that sweetness of character, family and friendship for which she is so well known. It’s been a pleasure to read.
I borrowed this as an audiobook, so part of my review may have been influenced by the awful reading which made me visibly cringe. The book itself is so full of romantic idioms, similes and repeated "my love" and constantly repeated cheesy declarations of love, "piercing blue eyesI" that I found it hard to get into the story. I'm unlikely to read another Mandy Magro book after this one. What couple calls each other by their full name including surname more often than just their first name.? It was Mills and Boon on speed. Nothing like her previous writing style. Was AI / Copilot editing this and adding as many loving phrases as possible to make up the word count? I doubt there is a couple in the history of the world that talked like this to each other for months on end. Just pure vomit for me. I hope she changes her style back. At this stage, never again. Sorry Mandy Magro fans who felt it was extraordinary.
I love Mandy Magro but then last year I read Shadows of Wildstone and it was badly written. But I said I will give her a chance maybe she was rushed by the editor or something. Nope this book was terrible like she had forgotten how to write a book. Absolutely nothing like her other books. It's like it's written by a ghostwriter or something. So many extra details that did not need to be in there. And no flow whatsoever. Will I ever read another new Mandy Magro? I highly doubt it.
This wasn't Mandy Magro's normal writing style. While I enjoyed the story and it had me ugly crying in the end the start of the story between the characters felt too good. No drama until you get to the last 100 pages where it sort of felt like she had to give the characters lots of issues to deal with. I originally was only going to give it 2 stars until I started crying in the last bit of the book. I hope she doesnt continue this writing style.
My daughter had picked this book out randomly for my birthday. As I started the prologue I was keen and excited and thought she'd picked a good one, but then as I got into the book it was completely different to how I thought it would go. But I persevered and finished the book. Honestly not a book I usually read. Are there really people out there who talk like that AND for their whole lives?
I could not finish this, which is very unlike me. So poorly written in regard to, too much explanation of such basic things. The dialogue is just ridiculous.
I love the dedication - 'For the girls who had to grow up too soon, and the extraordinary women they became. You are soft, strong and sacred. This story is yours.'
This was another wonderful story from Australian author Mandy Magro, and unlike other stories by this author.
