The Spiced Cocoa Café is the second book in the Maple Falls series written by Harper Graham. If I'm going to be honest, I had super low expectations going into this book after reading the The Cinnamon Spice Inn because while that one was enjoyable, I didn't fully love it as much as I loved the newest installment, The Spiced Cocoa Café. Even though the Christmas vibes and festivities were so immaculate, Harper Graham taught me an important life lesson with her books, family isn't ALWAYS blood. The Spiced Cocoa Café was beautiful, inspiring, powerful, deeply emotional, deeply heart warming, Christmassy, magical, and so majestic. I was so hesitant to pick this book up, but I'm so happy I did because it truly was way better than the first book, I actually had tears streaming down my face because of the vulnerability and the precious moments shared between the main characters. If you are looking for a book with immaculate Christmas vibes, a chocolate loving woman, a Christmas Grinch, and a llama sanctuary, then you need to mark your calendars for October 20th, 2025 because you definitely won't want to miss out on this precious book. The Spiced Cocoa Café is for anyone who likes their romance- and their books- with a little spice. If you are a Christmas fanatic like myself, I better see this book on everyone's want to read lists before I bully you💗😉🎄.

Cassidy St. Clair is the owner of The Spiced Cocoa Café and a pop-up called The Cocoa corner which is a chocolate lover's cozy paradise. The Spiced Cocoa Café has an opening day set for December 1st, so Cassidy has been on her feet nonstop trying to make her shop the most perfect place. It's named The Spiced Cocoa Café because of a dark spiced hot cocoa recipe that Cassidy was gifted to from her grandma Genevieve who recently passed away and is no longer here to see Cassidy's greatest accomplishments. Cassidy keeps the recipe folded in a locket that hands over her heart in memory of Miss. Genevieve. Before I forget to mention, Cassidy is also from the first book in this series, she was the one who was helping Madison with all of the baking over at The Cinnamon Spice Inn. This will also be Cassidy's first Christmas in Maple Falls. I just wanted to reach into my kindle and give Cassidy the biggest hug, she was such a relatable character, Cassidy always constantly apologized for being "too much". The small town of Maple Falls has many events leading up until Christmas Eve and one of their events is The Light-Up Display Competition where businesses decorate their stores with a holiday theme, if The Cocoa Corner wins this competition they would be named Maple Falls Business of the Year and a money donation for the charity of their choice. Cassidy has the most precious and cutest Golden Doodle named Muffin Marie. Before returning to Maple Falls, Cassidy lived in Paris, but she left after Jean-Paul the French Bastard cheated on her last Christmas, so now Cassidy has sworn off men for a whole year. Cassidy is the type of person who won't ask for help and she's also a people pleaser. Christmas is Cassidy's anchor and lifeline after a car accident stole the lives of both of her parents, Cassidy and her brother are the only two that survived this car accident. Cassidy also has steamy romance novels that she keeps hidden on her kindle, y'all I just love this woman.

Liam Hawthorne is a Grumpy Lumberjack that hates Christmas and let me just mention, this man is most definitely not a fan of chocolate but secretly he is a fun because he eats Snickers. Liam is just rolled out of bed but still unreasonably hot that he could be a model for a flannel ad. Liam is also the owner of the Hot Honey Farm Shop which is also competing in the Light-Up Display Competition, but for his donation charity, Liam is raising money for the expansion of a llama sanctuary which is a place where his brother Jackson could heal after coming home from serving in the war. Liam has one of the biggest hearts for animals, he had a Yellow Lab named Chance that passed away, and llamas named Daisy and Tinsel. For Liam, Christmas means heart break and hollow traditions that made everyone else smile, but Liam pretends to drown out the holiday cheer with long runs and work on the family farm. Christmas is the anniversary of the day that Liam's world fell apart, he hasn't felt hope in over four years. Liam is also the King of the Jingle Bell 5k, but after tearing his hamstring, Liam is no longer allowed to compete this year. After losing someone he loved, Liam's love life nowadays looks like something uncomplicated and easy. I absolutely loved Liam, despite being sad during the holiday's, he still had the biggest heart and wanted to make everyone around him happy, but I just wish he would have taken time for himself because as we all know that mental health is so important.

Liam and Cassidy are both competing in the Christmas Light-Up Display contest, they are both super competitive, so neither one of them is going down without a fight. Cassidy is the sunshine to Liam's storm cloud, their banter was absolutely hilarious, but no matter the challenges and obstacles, they both helped each other out. Liam and Cassidy first met when Cassidy got locked out of her shop and she was just standing barefoot in the snow until Prince Charming came to the rescue and showed Cassidy where the magical key was hidden. Their competitive energy was so much fun, it was so precious and sweet how both of their businesses were in the competition, but when something went wrong they were right there willing to help each other out. Cassidy is full of hope, love, and Christmas magic while Liam is full of emptiness and grief. Their vulnerability with each other truly was so beautiful, I loved how open and honest they were with each other. Cassidy and Liam are both grieving this Christmas, they both lost loved in a car accident, ugh my heart would just shatter every time they talked about their grief. I absolutely loved watching their love of one another blossom into something so beautiful, Cassidy's sex life was super dry, so watching Liam be so gentle and patient with her during spicy time was so special. Okay, I know many people won't agree with me, but the nicknames they had for each other was so freaking adorable, Cassidy's nickname for Liam was Grinch, and Liam's nickname for Cassidy was Sugarplum. Liam's obsession with making Cassidy lasagna was so funny, I couldn't stop laughing. Ugh, I'm going to miss these two love birds, I hope we get to see them in the third book because I just loved Cassidy and Liam too much to forget about them.

The vibes were immaculate!!
I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did such an incredible job bringing this to life, I enjoyed the atmosphere even more because of it.. The story wasn't perfect, but going into it with set expectations from book one, made this one a lot more enjoyable.

Cassidy is opening her chocolate shop just in time for the Christmas festivities and competing for a best decorated shop is just what she needs to immerse herself in Maple Falls. But Liam is competing too, both determined to win, both complete opposites... She's Christmas obsessed, he's a grinch, but sparks fly nonetheless. The competition is about to heat up, in more ways than one..

Cassidy was such a light, I love how she was trying to find herself again, after a toxic relationship left her feeling less.. She radiates happiness, even do her sorrows lie beneath it.. She was confident and very over the top and I loved her for it!!
Liam carried a lot of grief tied to the Christmas season and I loved seeing him enjoy it, little by little. He was an amazing man and I loved how he never tried to change Cassidy, but let himself find hope again in her..
I loved so many of their moments, the Christmas tree, the wish tags, the hike and the llama sanctuary, the snowman competition, the ice skating and the pine trees and that ornament at the end, they were all so sweet and festive. I would've enjoyed seeing more tension, but I was too wrapped up in all the cozy and snowy vibes to be too disappointed..

I absolutely adore the town and its occupants and the community they created. The setting really was everything I wanted and more, it brought me all the feels I needed and I adored the holiday displays, I wish I could see them in real life.
And I love their friend group, I'm very excited to read all the stories, especially Jackson's and Zoe's. I can't wait!!

The complaints I had for the first book are still present here, with this also being very insta-lust and having too much fantasizing, but I went into it expecting it, so I'm not going to complain about it or take a star away. I had the right expectations this time and that changes everything.
I still didn't like the misunderstandings though.. That first one, while a little ridiculous, was also predictable, so I honestly didn't mind it that much and maybe I can try to understand why the second and the third happened, but I hate the way they jumped to conclusions every single time. It left a black mark on their story..
Also, I have to say the whole plot line with the "Gingerbread jerk" and the way it was resolved was truly comical.. You can't help but laugh!!

Overall, this was still a very enjoyable experience, with the right expectations and the audiobook and the extremely over-the-top Christmas vibes.. If you love everything Christmas and you're a fan of Hallmark Christmas movies, you're going to love this!!

P. S. I'm not sure how I feel about the sugarplum nickname though..

*Thank you to Netgalley and to Bookouture Audio for providing me with an ALC.*

I'm so excited for Liam's story!!
While I didn't really enjoy the first book, I have high hopes for this one.. ☃️

Welcome back to Maple Falls! I just finished the audiobook for The Spiced Cocoa Café, written by Harper Graham and narrated by Andi Eloise, and I loved every minute! In fact, it was so addictive that I finished it in one day while I was at home feeling sick. This book is a totally heart-warming and cozy Christmas romance that exudes all the warm holiday feels. If you're looking for a seasonal read that feels exactly like a Hallmark movie with spice—this is it!

Harper Graham knows how to create a beautiful and immersive festive atmosphere. From descriptions of the delicious desserts, rich chocolate, and spiced hot cocoa to the adorable decorations and delightful details, she truly brings the town of Maple Falls to life. She paints the environment so well you feel like you're right there, experiencing the holiday season! The small town feel creates Gilmore Girls vibes. This is a charming, sweet, and cozy read—perfect if you're looking for a seasonal read with spice.

The story itself explores themes of love, and loss, while showing the joy of rediscovering love and being open to new possibilities. You'll love this rivals-to-lovers romcom, complete with yearning and festive adventures (think beautiful hikes, ice skating, and more). The spice is spice-ing, with the constant inner daydreaming between Cassidy and Liam, keeping the temps high. The plot includes a light mystery, and a whimsical cast of characters that give it a wonderful found family feel.

The narration by Andi Eloise was amazing! I usually prefer to read ebooks or physical books, but this audiobook was full of personality and super clear to listen to, and it felt like you're being transported into a Stars Hollow-type of small town like Maple Falls. It brought the festive and charming aspects of the book to life. I was easily able to listen at 1.5 to 2x speed and understand everything—a testament to the clarity of the recording! (On a funny note: listening at double speed made the main character's ex, Jean-Paul, sound like she kept talking about Sean Paul!)

This book is a warm hug of a story that serves as a reminder to slow down and enjoy the moment. It’s an ideal read for mood readers looking for a seasonal love story! I can't wait for more from this author and more installments of Maple Falls!

Perfect for fans of:
🎄 Holiday romcoms
☕️ Spiced hot cocoa and delicious desserts
❤️ Small town romance
💚 Gilmore Girls vibes
✨️ Rivals-to-lovers, grumpy x sunshine, slow burn, and yearning
🐾 Lovable dogs (and llamas!)

CHRISTMAS SEASON

GRUMPY X SUNSHINE

SMALL TOWN ROMANCE

This is for all the Gilmore Girlies and Emily Henry fans.

Thankyou to Netgalley, Bookouture and author Harper Graham for an eARC, as well as the audiobook, narrated by the equally talented, Andi Eloise. Releases October 20, 2025. The ebook will be free on KU.

This was a very fluffy, cozy, Christmas page turner.
Through the lense of local Liam and new ex city girl, Cassidy, we see the highlights of small town, Maple Falls.
Liam is traumatized, and he struggles with it more during the festive period.
Cassidy has taken a vow to not date men for a year, while she settles into Maple Falls and opens her own chocolate shop, where she sells her homemade treats and her family's secret recipe, spiced cocoa.

Cassidy's character grew so much throughout this book. She found self value and healed with the love and encouragement from the civilians of Maple Falls.
The writing is quirky and fun to read. Lauren's creative flair had me enthralled consistently from the first page right up to the end. I did in fact read this in like 5 hours or something like that.
I loved the representation of the senior class. Maple Springs is like the perfect retirement town for seniors. The women are innocently mischievous, especially Edith. They had me giggling and cackling away.
The town is so wholesome and welcoming towards Cassidy.
It reminds me so much of the beautiful community Rory got to grow up in. It was just so wholesome and would make the perfect festive read.
I will probably re-read it during the Christmas season.
I haven't read book one, The Cinnamon Spice Inn, currently free on KU but I will be doing so ASAP because it's based during the Halloween season.

Holy yearning. A sunshine, Christmas-loving hot chocolate shop owner, and the grumpy, Christmas-hating, rugged, lumberjack mountain man that really wants to make her a lasagna.
4.5 hot chocolates out of 5.

This is pretty classic. A lot of well loved tropes/themes are happening here.
- Small town Christmas romance
- Small business owners
- Grumpy x sunshine
- Cozy vibes

This is the second book in a series, following "The Cinnamon Spice Inn". I have yet to read that one, but luckily this one acts as a stand alone. So it isn’t a requirement to read them in order.
Though, I do think that that the characters are the same throughout the entire series, so reading them in order will probably give you a better connection to the entire town.

This is very Laurie Gilmore Dream Harbor coded, so if you like that, you will probably like this as well.
Very similar thing going on with the collection of small town shops and cozy vibes.
We’re romanticizing locally owned small businesses, and I can get behind that.

Though this story is pretty simple, I liked it a lot. The the type of romance I always turn to for comfort, since I can count on some predictability and a guaranteed happy ending.
It is also guaranteed to make me wish it was cold outside, and to make me wish I was drinking a French lavender hot chocolate right now. (Whatever that tastes like. I’m sure its nice.)

There were two very small things that I didn’t love here.
One: overuse of the phrase "Gingerbread Jerk". It worked the first time. Then they just kept saying it… a lot.
Second: I don’t want to do a lot of spoilers, but basically, there is a misunderstanding. And instead of waiting for 2 minutes to ask Cassidy about it- Liam just, runs away? Goes off the grid? Not to mention the fact that if he trusted Cassidy at all, he wouldn’t have thought that thing in the first place.
Not really huge deals in the grand scheme of things! They just gave me a few eyeroll moments.

You may notice at the beginning of this review, i said "holy yearning".
That is because this is FILLED to the brim with yearning.
Me personally? I’m gonna eat that up. Breakfast, lunch, dinner, midnight snack. Doesn’t matter.
Give me all of those moments when they’re just obsessed with each other. Can’t stop thinking about each other. Into every little detail of the other person.
Yes ma’am.

Basically, I liked this. It’s fun, cute, safe, cozy.
A good option.

Thank you to Netgalley, Bookouture and author Harper Graham, for providing me with the eARC of “The Spiced Cocoa Cafe", in exchange for my honest review!

Who doesn't love a romance set at xmas set in a cut town full of interesting characters????? This had more substance and emotion to it than book 1. There are separate stories just set in the same town with same characters. The narration was engaging and full of emotion. The interactions and dialogue were full of emotion and this came through in this high quality audio book. Be warned in places nothing is held back in the description , which for me made it more realistic . The usage of alternative pov chapters gave me a chance to care and the story to evolve. I have to say this needs to be listen or read for what it is. Its a simple cozy romance with a predictable and cheesy plot at times, it left me feeling happy and looking forward to book 3. This was a big improvement on book 1 for me the characters were more alive and the plot flowed better . Sometimes simple but with caring is the best way. I did enjoy this and its a very quick listen but no need for tissues it doesn't take itself too seriously. I like the universe its based in and could see other stories possible. Thanks to netgallery, publisher, author and narrators for this 4 star listen

« I’m a walking bad idea » Liam said, tilting his head. « I’m also house trained, good with dogs, and I make excellent lasagna. »

🎄❄️☃️❤️🍫

Christmas started a little early this year because I got the Arc for this book, thank you bookouture !!!
I was also an early reader for the first book so I was really excited to read this one.
Honestly it did not disappoint. Still the same, fluid and easy writing. The Christmas vibes are also really strong.
I loved Cassidy and Liam, I think their relationship is what you need after a heartbreak. The banter was so fun and the side story with the Christmas decorations contest, incredible. I was wondering who was sabotaging it all along and when I found out I laughed so hard.
Also f- you Jean Paul.

So if you need a cozy Christmas book with a cute romance, this is for you.

⚠️Trigger warning : A shitty man named Jean Paul, explicit sexuel content and grief/ mentions of the death of a partner/a parent

🌶️spice rating : 3/5 (there is three explicit scenes)

The Spiced Cocoa Cafe, book 2 in the Maple Falls series

This is such a cute, cozy, and spicy holiday romance, perfect to kick-off your holiday reading! FMC Cassidy is new to Maple Falls and has just opened her own personal chocolate shop, The Cocoa Corner, and is competing with 3 other businesses to win the best decorated store. Of course, her biggest rival, who is just across the street from her shop, is MMC Liam and his Hot Honey Farm Shop. While the rivalry heats up, Liam and Cassidy seem to be drawn to each other, even if Liam is a bit of a Christmas Grinch.

This story makes you wish it was snowing outside while you are under a warm blanket, with a warm cup of cocoa, while reading. I have never been into a café that specifically sells cocoa and chocolates, but boy do I want to find one after reading about The Cocoa Corner. Cassidy just loves Christmas so much, and I love how she is always wearing some type of festive clothing, "Her Christmas sweater collection was enough to give Santa secondhand embarrassment." She even wears glittery temporary tattoo snowflakes (I need to find some of those!). Liam is the polar opposite, not into Christmas at all (granted he has a reason), yet somehow attracted to Cassidy because she doesn't let anyone dim her spirit (anymore). Both Liam and Cassidy have Christmas tragedies in their past, but have had opposite responses to their trauma. Cassidy has memorized the Maple Fall's Christmas calendar of events, while Liam tries to avoid them at all costs.

I love Cassidy and Liam's characters, they compliment each other in so many ways throughout the story. I also enjoyed the mystery of the "gingerbread jerk" someone going around and messing with not only the store's competition displays, but also the lights and décor for the town Christmas tree. Who could possibly be so horrible as to destroy decorations? Cassidy has made friends with a lot of the characters we met in The Cinnamon Spice Inn, and I really look forward to reading the next story in this series!!

Prepare some cocoa before diving into this cozy story, or you will have some serious cravings!

Some fav quotes:
"But the Cocoa Corner's piece de résistance was her festive hot cocoa pop-up, the Spiced Cocoa Café. The signature dark spiced cocoa was the highlight."

"Sure it snowed in Paris, but not like this. There was nothing like the hush of a small town wrapped in Christmas lights, where the world seemed to hold its breath and time slowed. Moments like this were why she was here in Maple Falls, cocoa in hand, heart wide open. Christmas. Snow. Magic. It was everything she wanted her life to be."

"Psycho or not, this guy was tall, broad-shouldered, and dusted in snowflakes as if Santa Claus himself had conjured him."

"He had that rugged just-rolled-out-of-bed-but-still-unreasonably-hot thing going on. He had a rough voice that warmed her faster than cocoa ever could."

"Cassidy tried-really tried-not to think about all the fun she could have with Liam and a jar of his famous hot honey, but her imagination wasn't cooperating."

"She was chocolate and sunshine, warm and alive, lighting up the dim shop just by standing there, and it threw him completely off balance."

"Then he pulled out a measuring tape and Cassidy's throat went dry. She decided right then that there was something very sexy about a man with a plan-especially when that man looked like a living lumberjack and smelled faintly of cedar and honey."

Thank you so much to Bookouture, Netgalley, and the author for a copy of this book!

The Spiced Cocoa Café was such a cozy, feel good read. It gave me all the Christmas vibes and that perfect small town charm I love. The whole story just felt so warm and festive, like curling up with a hot chocolate and watching a Christmas movie.

I really liked Cassidy. She was relatable and easy to root for, and I loved seeing her grow and find her place in Maple Falls. The romance was sweet and the grumpy x sunshine dynamic made it even better. Harper Graham’s writing just has that comforting, wholesome feel that pulls you right in.

It’s one of those books that leaves you smiling and feeling all soft inside. If you love small town romances, found family, and cozy Christmas stories, this one’s definitely worth picking up.

Thank you to NetGalley for the copy to read and review. I’ll definitely be rereading this one closer to Christmas. 🎄💗

This was such a cute, cozy Christmas romance! I loved the playful rivalry between Cassidy and Liam—it had that perfect small-town vibe that makes for an easy holiday read. Both main characters were likable and had relatable backstories that added just enough depth without weighing down the festive tone.

Some scenes felt a bit rushed, especially toward the end, but the story still offered plenty of charming details and heartwarming moments. The competition setup was fun, and I enjoyed watching their relationship shift from rivals to something sweeter.

Overall, The Spiced Cocoa Café is a warm, feel-good read perfect for anyone who loves a little holiday magic and friendly banter with their romance.

The Spiced Cocoa Café is the second book in the Maple Falls series. I have not read the first one but this book can honestly be read as a standalone. You do not need any information from the first installment.

The story is about Cassidy who is a new girl in Maple Falls. She has a strong passion towards chocolate. Also, she swears to be off any man for a whole year, but her Cocoa Corner chocolate shop is located across the street from Hot Honey Farm Shop, own by Liam.

The vibes in this book is so on point. Everything about the Christmas is immaculately described. And it makes me want to live in that town. The conflict and problems in this book are also enjoyable. Really recommend to anyone who loves:
💫 Christmas vibes
💫 Chocolate
💫 Small town romance
💫 Found family

I received an ARC copy by NetGalley to read and review.
I had heard good things about the first book and although I haven’t read it I went into this one with high expectations. I felt like the main characters acted like they were teenagers. They had misunderstandings about stupid things and didn’t communicate. His term “sugarplum” was used the first time they met which I felt was odd. And the whole thing about having a vow for 1 year of no men and she couldn’t shorten it a month to begin dating a guy she knew she had interest in seemed extreme. Like it’s a month, so what? But I did enjoy the mystery of the Gingerbread Jerk and trying to figure out who it could be. The description of the Hallmark town they live in reminds me of my town so that warmed my heart. I am now invested in it and look forward to book 3.

I absolutely loved this book! I didn’t want to stop reading.
The characters and setting were the perfect mix of cozy and Christmassy — I really wanted that hot chocolate recipe!!

I loved how Cassidy and Liam’s relationship developed as they dealt with grief and past relationships. I thought the latter was handled particularly well.

I really enjoyed the Christmas shopfront competition and the mystery surrounding the gingerbread jerk — it all tied in perfectly with the romance between Cassidy and Liam. The side characters added to the small-town vibes, making the story feel cozy.

This book made me laugh, giggle, and even cry!

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley for the opportunity to read and review this lovely story. I cannot wait for book 3!

It’s like your favorite hot chocolate — comforting and pleasant, but not mind-blowing. Worth reading for cozy vibes and soft romance energy. If you love café settings + mellow love stories, you’ll enjoy this.

Andi Eloise absolutely nailed the cozy tone — her voice fits the vibe perfectly. ☕️✨ She gives each character a subtle distinction without overdoing it, and her warmth makes the story feel even more like a Hallmark hug. Honestly, she’s a big reason I stuck with the slower parts.

Thanks to the author, their publisher, and NetGalley for the advanced audio copy of the book.

Thank you to NetGalley for this early copy of this book🥹

To start I would say that this book was absolutely adorable and gives major Christmas vibes. The cocoa, the town, the contest, all of it🎄🤶🌲

What i loved about this book?
*To start i would say i love our fmc she reminds me so much of me in the way she absolutely loves Christmas. I loved seeing her develop after leaving a toxic relationship🥹🥹
*The mmc he is so grumpy coded in a way that i loveee it gives me such good vibesss
*The whole set up of the books and the characters feel so amazing I love it.

What i did not like?
*Two conflicts in the span of 15% that’s crazyyyyyyyy i felt the author said um no conflict yet? Here is two and its the worst type also
*It began to felt a little too unrealistic at the last 20-30% for such a crazy reason

But this book was such a pleasure to read by audio.

The spiced Cocoa Cafe is a cute and spicy Christmas read... or listen if you do the audiobook like I did. The narrator did a really good job bringing this story to life.

I loved the description of the town and the people in it. Think of Gilmore girls at Christmas time. It got me in the mood for Christmas to get here soon.

I wasn’t the biggest fan of the conflict towards the end, but it did all come together and provided a sweet ending. I’m intrigued to go back and listen to the first audiobook in the series.

Listened to the audiobook, and it was a quick, fun and spicy Christmasy story to keep me entertained while doing chores around the house. A bit on the cheesy side of romance, but cute nonetheless. Loved the narrator's voice, she did a great job in portraying each character. Festive Hallmark vibes galore in this one!

Quick Summary: A love after loss, second chance at life romance

My Review: The Spiced Cocoa Café by Harper Graham is book #2 in the Maple Fall series. The audiobook is scheduled for release on 10/20/25.

About the Book: "A new girl in town who lives for Christmas and has everything to prove. A local rival with tousled dark hair and a smirk that spells trouble. Who will win the holiday showdown of the year?"

In My Own Words: During an annual holiday season contest, a grumpy business owner with a tragic past competes against a Christmas loving chocolatier who is new in town. Who will win in the end?

About Maple Falls: This place is magical (not in the fantastical, supernatural way, rather it seems to be so in the most heartwarming way). This was my second visit to this very special small town community, and I am just as charmed this time around as I was the first time I visited.

About the Characters: Where do I start?

The residents of Maple Falls were hilarious and entertaining. They were also sweet and protective of their own. There was never a dull moment when they got together as friends and neighbors. I found all of the characters to be interesting. It was so easy to picture them from the bah humbug town Scrooge to the beloved elderly character with the widowed boyfriend. The entire experience was a hoot!

About the Couple: Cassidy and Liam were tremendously likable characters. What they went through in their individual lives was heartbreaking. I think that is what made their story of coming together that much more precious. I loved the way their relationship flowed and came into being. It was very natural.

About the Conflict: Moving beyond the pains and struggles of the past played a large role in the conflict arc of both leads. It affected how they engaged with each other immensely. It directly impacted trust levels and it colored the way each character perceived relational situations.

About the Audiobook: This novel was narrated by Andi Eloise. She did an excellent job. I was eased right into the heart of the story. She made the listening experience entertaining. It was lively and animated.

My Favorite Scenes (coded, so as to avoid spoilers):

💼 Bye, Boy! 🖤
😂 Who Did It?!

My Final Say: I loved this cozy contemporary romance story! It made me laugh. It made me tear up. It made me wonder. It made me cheer. I was invested in it completely.

I adored Cassidy and Liam (as well as all of the townsfolk in Maple Falls). I understood the lead couples plight. I wanted both of them to come out as winners in this story.

In the end, I will say that the grumpy versus sunshine energy, the hot honey versus chocolate yum yum surprises, and the holiday uh ohs versus the dreamy Xmas wishes made this story entirely wonderful.

Other: I was easily able to pick up on the dangling threads for at least two more potential stories in this series. I am all for the wounded warrior and for the prodigal daughter storylines. Please and thank you.

I strongly encourage readers who enjoy small town romances, opposites in love stories, found family relationships, and holiday hijinks to give this novel (and this series) a try. Maple Falls is a place you will definitely want to visit again and again.

Thank you to NetGalley for the ARC of this book.

I really want to love this book. I do. But I just can’t.

In general I don’t vibe a lot with today’s romance or “romantasy” genre. I’ve made clear in my previous reviews that I deemed this genre to be over-sexualized and I don’t really like books that are basically the literary version of so-steamy-i-can’t-believe-it’s-not-porn movie.

It doesn’t mean that I entirely avoid the genre though. I like grown-up romance like “The Wedding People” where the protagonists are more mature adult (30-somethings) who doesn’t get preoccupied with sex at all times.

One of my favorite read last year was “How My Neighbor Stole Christmas”. Granted, it features unbelievably attractive 20-something characters which violate my preference for mature adult romance. But I liked how it weave the Christmas theme nicely into the book from the location, the analogy to The Grinch, and the chapter epigraph that harks back to children Christmas nursery rhymes, but with adult theme. It certainly also helps that I find the story pretty funny. Yes there are sex and quite a few chapters dedicated solely to the act. But it wasn’t really competing with the overarching theme and it certainly didn’t pop out in every single chapter.

That is why when I came across The Spiced Cocoa Cafe in NetGalley, I was instantly reminded of the good time I had reading How My Neighbor Stole Christmas last year and I just had to request the ARC. Well, I couldn’t be more disappointed.

I’m gonna start with the positives. The theme is spot-on. The book has the same kind of cheesy like all Hallmark channel Christmas movies. But that’s to be expected. This book like so many others seasonal romance books, is released around Christmas time because people like to read that genre around this time of year. And I don’t begrudge it for it. In fact, I kinda expect it. The story is uncomplicated and easy to follow even without reading the first book (I didn’t). My guess is that the only continuity from the first book to the second is the majority of the characters and some minor reference to the events of the first book.

So what doesn’t work with the book? In one word, sex. It’s not that they are stripping each other naked and fuck everywhere every time, but it wasn’t that far off. The sexual tension is palpable from the very first chapter. It is very overdone and I can’t help groaning audibly every time the character describe imagining having sexual activity with the other character in the middle of EVERY SINGLE CHAPTER.

I guess I could probably tolerate it if it has some funny exchanges or lean harder into the holiday theme by including things like How My Neighbor Stole Christmas chapter epigraphs for example. But it has none. It simply is a story about two unbelievably attractive young adults who can’t help having sexual fantasies each time they see each other, and how it progresses from fall-in-LUST-at-first-sight to them actually getting to fuck each other’s brain out. Or at least that’s where I guess the story culminates. I didn’t get that far before DNF-ing.

Books like this usually deserve one star from me (looking at you Verity). But I’m gonna be more lenient here and give it a two-star ratnig. For Verity, my problem was the book is supposed to be a psychological thriller so I came into the book expecting zero (or as little as possible) sexual tension, but ended up flooded with it. One of the description for The Spiced Cocoa Cafe is that it’s “spicy” and so I came into the book bracing myself for some cheesy sexual encounter. And yet, I’m still overwhelmed by the amount that I got.

That being said, I bet this book would be a success. It caters to the large and growing segment of readers who loves short, easy-to-follow, spicy love stories. As for myself, I guess I have to accept the fact that probably How My Neighbor Stole Christmas is an exception and not the rule of christmas love story.

✧ SUMMARY & OPINIONS✧

The Spiced Cocoa Café is a cozy Christmas romance set in the Hallmark-esque town of Maple Falls. It’s full of Christmas magic & community spirit with a mixed cast of loveable characters. FMC Cassidy is a breath of fresh air who runs on chocolate & Christmas (think Buddy the Elf) whilst MMC Liam could give the Grinch a run for his money! Although predominantly warm & uplifting, Cassidy & Liam’s story also explores heartache, the struggles surrounding building trust & opening your heart up to love again. However overall, this is a fantastic lighthearted, humour filled love story overflowing with all things festive. I’d definitely recommend this book, especially to Christmas lovers, romance lovers & Hallmark fans.

~

➕Harper Graham created a vivid, immersive environment that was so easy to get lost in. Charming, welcoming & wholesome, I honestly felt like part of the Maple Falls Community & that plays a huge role in this being a book you can easily finish in one sitting.

➕My favourite part was the mix of characters & the sense of community. Grinchy Mr Alders had me chuckling to myself but it was Mrs C & Mrs Bishop who I really loved - a fabulous pair of gossips with the purest hearts.

➖There were times when Liam’s spicy thoughts were slightly odd & unnecessary. I feel like a less is more approach would’ve actually been more effective as they kind of took away from the moments happening in reality.

➖I also felt like the miscommunication aspect was overused. The second instance wasn’t needed as it basically just rehashed what had already been dealt with.

✧ FINAL TAKEAWAY ✧

This was a cozy, comforting Christmas read & I really enjoyed it. The Hallmark vibes were immaculate & it truly felt like stepping into a movie. Was it a little predictable? Yes, but that really didn’t bother me as it had everything a cozy Christmas romance should. Loveable characters, small town charm, chemistry & tension, a bump in the road (or 2!), growth, realisation & a happily ever after. I was left feeling content, with a smile on my face & a massive desire to get the decorations out of the loft. (It’s basically November which means it’s nearly December so…)
If you want an easy going, joyful heartwarming, comedic story that will have you heading to your coffee shop for a loaded hot chocolate faster than you can say ‘sugarplum’, then this is the book for you 🎄🎅🏼🎁✨☃️☕️🍫

~

📣 A huge thank you to NetGalley, Bookouture & Harper Graham for giving me the opportunity to read this ARC. This is my honest opinion & I’m sharing it voluntarily.

If you love Hallmark holiday romances with a dash of cocoa and a sprinkle of small town charm, The Spiced Cocoa Café checks all the boxes. Cassidy, the new girl in Maple Falls, is pure sunshine who’s determined to win the town’s best decorated store contest and prove she belongs. Across the street is Liam, the local grinch with tousled dark hair, a smirk that spells trouble, and a deep dislike for the holidays.

From the moment they meet, the tension is palpable. There’s instant attraction, snarky banter, and the classic enemies-to-lovers setup. But for me, the emotional connection never quite brewed. Their chemistry felt more like a festive plot requirement than something genuinely earned. I wanted to believe in their spark, but it flickered rather than flared.

Cassidy’s cocoa shop and Liam’s llama sanctuary offer cozy backdrops, and the town’s meddling charm adds a layer of whimsy. But despite the seasonal sweetness, I struggled to connect with the story. The plot leaned heavily on familiar tropes without adding fresh depth, and the romance felt rushed like skipping straight to the mistletoe without building the emotional foundation.

If you’re in the mood for a light, holiday read with a predictable but comforting plot, this might satisfy your seasonal craving. But if you’re looking for a romance that truly earns its happily ever after, The Spiced Cocoa Café might leave you wanting something a little richer.

Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for this ARC!

I am not a romance person. I am not a Christmas person. I have, however, had this series recommended to me by a number of friends, and, to be honest, it’s quite sweet. It makes my tiny Grinch heart grow a couple of sizes.

First off, the setting. If you are a Christmas person, this is the ideal book. The descriptions are detailed and wildly cosy, and it was so lovely to be wrapped up in the world of the town. If this was a cosy fantasy, and not a romance, this would have been a very highly rated read for me. The town sounds lovely, and it’s such a sweet setting and the small town vibe is really adorable.

I do feel like the romance, however, was the cheese in the burger (and not in a good way). It was just a bit over the top, and I was left giggling at some of the silly descriptions associated with bad metaphors. I felt like it was just a bit trite, and the romance between the characters was organic, but it did feel a bit silly to have the conflict at the end between them.

I feel like if you are a romance person and a Christmas person, this is the ideal read. Perfect for curling up on the sofa with hot cocoa and a warm blanket, this book was made for you. It wasn’t quite made for me, but I can admire elements and look at it from a distance!

This story warmed my heart like a mug of hot chocolate on a cold Christmas morning! A true storybook Christmas dream. ✨ Thank you to Harper Graham and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this delightful ARC! 🎄❄️☕️🎁☃️♥️

Blurb —
Cassidy is finally opening her dream chocolate shop, inspired by her dear Grandma who made the best cocoa. Now all she wants for Christmas is to win best decorated store and show she belongs in the small town of Maple Falls. But she’ll have to pull out all the stops to beat the handsome, loveable grinch across the street…

Liam hates the holidays—they remind him of past heartbreak. But to support his family’s llama sanctuary, he’s determined to deck out his farm shop in holiday cheer and win that prize. Then he sees her—chocolate-smeared cheeks, wide blue eyes and the warmest smile. He’s up against the cutest, most Christmas-obsessed person ever…
Their rivalry heats up as the town!!

I loved everything about this book and could not put it down!! The chocolate shop and Cassidy’s magical knack for knowing everyone’s favorite chocolate flavor gave me Chocolat vibes in the best way. Perfect for fans of the Dream Harbor series and anyone who loves the small-town charm and festive sparkle of a Hallmark movie.

🎄 festive rivalry
❄️ heartbreak, grief, and loss
❤️‍🩹 healing
♥️ cosy small town
☃️ a touch of mystery wrapped up with Christmassy vibes
🤭 spicy !!
🫶 the cutest golden doodle named Muffin
🥰 he calls her Sugarplum!!!

Highlights—

Her sunshine hit his storm cloud, and for a breath, everything stilled.

It wasn’t just attraction. It was gravity. The kind that pulled a man down and made him forget his better judgment. And the worst part was, a reckless part of him—buried deep and aching—wanted her to keep going. To tear through every last wall until there was nothing left to hide behind.

She was chocolate and sunshine, warm and alive…

Do not think about his candy cane. Or his snowballs. Or tying him up with tinsel, she reminded herself.

Cassidy never knew she had a thing for a man with a knife, but now she knew.

He knew the way grief carved its name into your bones, how it changed the shape of a holiday forever.

“Do not think about his candy cane. Or his snowballs. Or tying him up with tinsel, she reminded herself.”

She was the new girl at Maple Falls trying to fit in and purchases the store front from the previous owner who recently retired.
She meets the business owner across the street; Liam. He’s tall and broody. His nickname is Grinch and her nickname is Sugarplum. They both have a traumatic past that happened during Christmas. These were 2 people slowly finding their way to each other. She was the bubbly happy Christmas lover and he was the one that didn’t want to do anything with the Christmas spirit however due to his family’s llama sanctuary he’s doing everything he can to be in the spirit in order to win the prize.

Grab your cozy blankets because this was like a Hallmark Movie! I loved the spice that was leading up to it. It was slow and romantic. This book definitely did not disappoint; it’s the perfect small town Christmas book. You can feel all the Christmas vibes right from the beginning of the book. The mention of Christmas pastries, cocoa, Christmas lighting, and snow.

The Spiced Cocoa Cafe was like listening to a Christmas Hallmark movie with more spice 🎄 You can’t help but fall in love with this cute little town with all their quirky residents. It made me want to visit, get me some spiced cocoa, and watch the tree lighting in the town square 😍

The grumpy/sunshine trope was executed well and the way the MMC started caring and wanting to take care of the FMC made me swoon. Who doesn’t love a caring protective lumberjack looking guy? 😂 And the spice was more than I was expecting from this book 👀

The HEA was sweet and I was satisfied with the ending. I listened to the audiobook and the narrator did a good job portraying the characters. If you want to check out a cozy, spicy, Christmasy hug of a book, this is for you! ❤️🎄💚

This story, the plot has got me so excited for Christmas. I honesty cannot wait now. This book was a perfect chilly evening read. I read it pretty fast for me. I was completely lost in this world. This was a really cute small town romance. I enjoyed all the different elements to it. The setting is how I picture a small town in America to be lol. A town who loves the festival season, snow falling, friends meeting for hot cocoa. Literally all the feels.

I highly recommend.

This book made me want to go and read book 1 in the Maple Fall series. So I will be doing that this winter.
