Coral Bell Cove #4

At First Spark

Rate this book
Lark Carrington came to Coral Bell Cove for a fresh start. A fading inn, a quiet life, and a chance to rebuild something steady after everything she’s lost. She didn’t expect her first real connection to come in the middle of chaos.

Holt Wright is used to being underestimated—long before he ever put on a uniform. The easygoing one. The goofball. The brother no one expected much from. Until he became a firefighter. Now, when the alarm sounds, he’s the one people trust when it matters most.

The one who shows up.
The one who stays.
Even for her.

What begins as a single moment—smoke, heat, and the steady presence of the man who pulled her back from the edge—turns into something neither of them can ignore. Long days restoring the Carrington Inn. Late nights that feel a little too honest. A connection that builds slowly… and burns deeper than either of them expected.

Because Lark doesn’t trust easily. And Holt is still learning what it means to be the man people finally believe in.

And when the past Lark tried to outrun starts to catch up with her… they’ll have to decide if this is just a spark—or something worth risking everything for.

At First Spark is a tender, slow-burn small-town romance about healing, showing up, and discovering that sometimes the person who saves you… is the one you choose to stay for.

This was a tender, heartfelt romance that quietly stole my heart.

Lark’s journey through grief while restoring her father’s inn felt deeply emotional, and I couldn’t help but root for her. Holt was the perfect hero—steady, kind, and always there when she needed him most.

The slow-burn romance was beautifully done. Their connection grew through quiet moments and late-night conversations, which made their relationship feel natural and incredibly rewarding. The touch of suspense added just enough tension without taking away from the heart of the story.

This was a warm, emotional read about healing, trust, and starting over. This was a beautiful reminder that love can help you rebuild.

I’m already excited to spend more time in Coral Bell Cove.

Huge thank you to Renee Harless & The Author Agency for the ARC! 😍 All my bookish thoughts are completely my own. ✨

This was a surprisingly emotional story! Lark and Holt worked really well as a couple and both brought out the best in each other. When Holt offers his place for Lark to move into, it’s clear there’s no ulterior motive but feelings started to build up pretty quickly.

I’m not usually a fan of super slowburn because I’m impatient as all get out but it worked for these two! I also liked the suspense part of the story and trying to figure out who exactly was after Lark.

This wasn’t my absolute favourite Renee Harless book but it was still enjoyable and I will still be sticking around to read the next book in the series!

After her father's death, Lark heads to Coral Bell Cove, in the hopes of fixing up an old inn that her dad had hoped to get up and running. Enter Holt, firefighter and the one who turns up to assist Lark when a fire is found within said inn.

I have loved all the books in the Coral Bell Cove series so far and it's so great to see how each character gets their own happy ever after. While this story was a bit of a slow burn, it was complemented with the backstory of both our main character's exes, who both feature as well. The ending of the book kept me flipping those pages at super speed, especially as the drama reached its crescendo. Lark and Holt had so much chemistry together and it was so satisfying to see things work out in their favour. I can't wait to see who features in the next book in the series.

This was my first read in this series but it was still easy to follow along. This super slow burn features Lark and Holt. Lark came to Coral Bell Cove to redo the inn like her father had planned to before his death. She was still in the midst of the grieving process. Holt had just become a firefighter in his small town and wanted everyone to take him seriously. The chemistry between them was an instant spark and even though it takes a bit to ignite they were wonderful together. Along with the romance, there is a suspense element that runs through the book which raised the tension. Holt was so protective of Lark from the beginning and the danger just upped that. The pages flew by trying to get to the end and it was great.

At First Spark was one of those books that quietly works its way into your heart and stays there long after you’ve finished reading.

This story was beautifully written, emotional, and full of heart without ever feeling overly dramatic. Instead, it felt honest. The characters felt real, their struggles felt real, and their connection felt genuine from beginning to end.

Lark’s journey especially resonated with me.

She isn’t simply starting over in a new town. She’s trying to navigate life while carrying grief and loss, all while taking on the challenge of restoring her father’s inn. Watching her move through that grief felt authentic because healing isn’t a straight path, and this book didn’t pretend otherwise.

Then there’s Holt.

And honestly? Holt was exactly the kind of MMC I love reading about.

He wasn’t flashy or over-the-top. He was steady. Kind. Reliable. The type of person who simply shows up when it matters most. His quiet support for Lark throughout the story made him incredibly easy to love.

One of my favorite parts of this book was the slow-burn romance.

The pacing felt perfect. Nothing felt rushed, and every step in their relationship felt earned. The late-night conversations between Lark and Holt became some of my favorite scenes because they allowed their connection to develop naturally. Those moments felt intimate, vulnerable, and real in a way that made me feel completely immersed in their story.

The small-town setting also added so much warmth to the book. Combined with the inn restoration storyline, it created a comforting atmosphere even while the story explored heavier emotional themes.

What surprised me most was how emotional this book became. I expected a sweet small-town romance, but what I found was a story about grief, healing, hope, and learning how to open your heart again after loss.

By the end, I found myself genuinely invested in both Lark’s healing journey and the relationship she built with Holt.

If you enjoy:

🏡 Small-town romance

At First Spark is my very first book by Renee Harless—and in true old-fashion style, I chaotic-started with book four in the series—but let me tell you, it will absolutely not be my last! If you are a sucker for small-town warmth, emotional healing, and a slow-burn romance that builds so naturally it feels impossible not to root for the characters, this book is going to completely steal your heart. From the second Lark and Holt meet, there is an immediate, magnetic spark that feels like two people orbiting the same universe finally colliding. The chemistry is the absolute perfect balance of tenderness and tension, and when the walls finally come down between them? It is so worth the wait!

Can we talk about the main characters for a second? Lark is carrying the heavy weight of grief, hope, and the massive responsibility of rebuilding an inn to honor her father’s legacy, yet she never loses the soft compassion that makes her so easy to love. And Holt Wright? Holy moly, he completely stole my heart. He used to be the life-of-the-party boy until life forced him to grow into a dependable, quietly heroic firefighter. He is the ultimate "fall first" hero who shows up for Lark over and over again without asking for recognition, proving his love through steady, protective actions rather than flashy gestures. Watching him fall for her while trying not to let himself fully hope was absolutely painful in the best way possible!

Renee Harless created absolute magic with the cozy, small-town community of Coral Bell Cove. It truly feels like a charming place where broken pieces can slowly come back together. On top of the incredible romance, there’s a suspense element woven in that raises the emotional stakes in all the right ways without ever overshadowing the love story. It just beautifully highlights how fiercely Lark and Holt care for each other when danger creeps in. This book gave me all the feelings—it’s tender, emotional, hopeful, and darkly swoony in the best possible way. If you love protective firefighters, cozy small towns, and characters who find safety in each other, you absolutely need to pick this one up! 💛

At First Spark by Renee Harless was such a heartfelt and emotional read that completely pulled me in from the very beginning. This story felt warm, comforting, and deeply personal in a way that stayed with me long after I finished the last page.

Lark was such an easy character to connect with. You could feel the weight of everything she had been through and how badly she just wanted peace, stability, and a chance to rebuild her life. Watching her slowly open herself back up to trust and love was beautiful and emotional. Her journey felt so real and honest.

And Holt Wright completely stole my heart. There was something so special about him being the guy everyone underestimated while quietly becoming the person everyone could count on when it mattered most. He was patient, dependable, caring, and just genuinely good. The way he showed up for Lark over and over again without pushing her made me fall for him so hard. He was not flashy or over the top. He was steady. Safe. The kind of man who proves his love through actions, and honestly that made him even more swoon worthy.

The chemistry between Holt and Lark built so naturally throughout the story. I loved the slow burn pacing because it gave their connection time to grow into something meaningful and believable. Every conversation, every quiet moment at the inn, and every bit of emotional vulnerability between them felt authentic. Their romance was soft, healing, and filled with so much heart.

Coral Bell Cove was also such a charming setting. The small town atmosphere mixed perfectly with the emotional depth of the story. It truly felt like a place where broken pieces could slowly come back together.

This book gave me all the feelings. It was tender, emotional, hopeful, and romantic in the best possible way. If you love small town romances with emotional healing, protective firefighters, slow burn chemistry, and characters who find strength in each other, you absolutely need to pick this one up. Easily a five star read for me.

I’m actually unwell over Lark and Holt. Like genuinely. This book slid into my brain all soft and sweet and then suddenly had me clutching my chest at 2am like a Victorian woman seeing an ankle for the first time. 😭🔥

At First Spark is EVERYTHING I want in a small town romance. The slow burn? Exquisite torture. The emotional healing? Inject it directly into my bloodstream. The way Holt just quietly shows up for Lark over and over again without making it about himself? SIR. PLEASE. I am trying to function in society.

And Holt??? Oh my god Holt Wright the man that you are. Everyone sees him as the goofy easygoing brother meanwhile this man is out here carrying emotional depth, competence, loyalty, and firefighter hero energy all at once. Renee Harless really said “what if your next book boyfriend was a golden retriever wrapped in turnout gear with hidden emotional damage?” and I said YES MA’AM.

Lark’s journey hit me hard too. You could FEEL how exhausted she was from surviving for so long, and watching her slowly let herself trust someone again felt so real and tender. Their connection never felt rushed. It built brick by brick, look by look, late night by late night until suddenly I was kicking my feet and screaming into a pillow because THESE TWO were consuming my entire personality.

Also the atmosphere?? The inn renovations, the small town vibes, the emotional warmth simmering underneath everything. This book feels like smoke curling from a fireplace and that first deep breath after a storm passes. Cozy but aching in the best way.

And the chemistry??? Quietly devastating. Not overly flashy, just intimate in a way that sneaks up on you and then boom suddenly every touch feels like a five-alarm fire. 🫠

I absolutely devoured this book and now I’m sitting here staring at the wall because I miss them already. Holt and Lark own a small beachfront property in my heart now and apparently they’re never leaving. Five stars without hesitation.

“She matters in all the ways that make a man careful. All the ways that make him reckless too.”

At First Spark is an emotional, slow burn romance with just enough suspense to keep your heart thudding and your breath catching. From the moment Lark and Holt meet, there’s this undeniable spark—an instant recognition, like two people who’ve been orbiting the same universe finally colliding. Their pull toward each other is immediate, magnetic, and threaded with something deeper than either of them is ready to name.

Watching Holt step into Lark’s life as she tries to rebuild the inn and honor her father’s legacy was one of my favorite parts of the story. He becomes this steady, grounding presence—quiet support wrapped in strength and patience—giving her the space and confidence to trust herself again. Holt was once the life of the party boy, all charm and noise, until life forced him to grow into the dependable, quietly heroic firefighter he is now. That contrast makes him irresistible.

“He lets me lead. But he doesn’t let me do it alone.”

Lark, meanwhile, is trying to find her footing in a new town while carrying the weight of grief, hope, and responsibility. And Holt sees her—really sees her—in a way she hasn’t experienced in a long time. When danger creeps in, they face it side by side, drawing on the quiet resilience they’ve built together. Their relationship grows in these soft, steady increments, full of tension, sweetness, and the kind of charm that sneaks up on you.

The small town setting is its own kind of magic. The community, the family dynamics, the way everyone rallies around each other—it all adds warmth and heart to the story.

This romance is tender, slow burn, and beautifully grounded in emotional growth. Sparks fly, danger looms, and through it all, Lark and Holt build something strong, steady, and full of hope.

received this ARC from the author and this is my honest opinion.

At First Spark is the first book I’ve read by this author and it completely pulled me in with its mix of small-town warmth, emotional healing, and a romance that builds so naturally it feels impossible not to root for Lark and Holt from the very beginning.

Lark is carrying grief, pressure, and the weight of rebuilding both her future and her father’s legacy, yet she never loses the softness that makes her so easy to love. One of my favorite details was how quickly her compassion showed through, even in the smallest moments. Holt notices that too, and from there their connection slowly grows into something steady, comforting, and impossible to ignore.

Holt honestly stole my heart. Beneath his calm, dependable firefighter exterior is someone who loves deeply and quietly. He shows up for Lark over and over again without asking for recognition, and those little acts of care somehow felt even more romantic than the bigger moments. Watching him fall first while trying so hard not to let himself fully hope? Absolutely painful in the best way.

Their chemistry was such a perfect balance of tenderness and tension. The slow burn never dragged, and every touch, conversation, and glance felt meaningful. Then when the walls finally come down between them? So worth the wait. Their dynamic had both emotional vulnerability and heat, which made the relationship feel incredibly genuine.

I also loved how the suspense element added extra intensity to the story. The danger never overshadowed the romance, but it raised the emotional stakes in all the right ways and really highlighted how fiercely these two cared for each other.

Between the cozy community, the emotional depth, the protective hero energy, and the beautifully developing romance, this story felt heartfelt from beginning to end. It’s the kind of book that sneaks up on you emotionally and leaves you thinking about the characters long after you finish. 💛

I went into At First Spark wanting cozy small town vibes with a firefighter hero and some emotional depth, and Renee Harless delivered ♥️

Lark Carrington is running from a painful past and trying to restore the fading Carrington Inn in Coral Bell Cove for a quiet reset. She’s guarded, a bit prickly, and carrying heavy baggage, the kind that makes her wary of letting anyone close. All she wants is stability.

Holt Wright is the standout for me. 😉 He’s the classic “easygoing brother no one expected much from” who’s grown into a reliable firefighter, the guy who shows up and stays. He’s patient, steady, and quietly determined without being pushy or overly alpha. His “actions over words” approach to winning Lark over had me smiling.

The slow burn romance between them builds naturally through inn restoration days, honest late night talks, and that initial dramatic rescue moment that kicks everything off. The chemistry simmers rather than explodes, which suited the healing focused story perfectly.

I’ve not read any of the previous books, but Coral Bell Cove feels lived in and supportive, there are cameos apparently from previous characters that made me want to read their stories too. There’s also a suspense thread from Lark’s past that adds tension toward the end.

The pacing is very much slowburn (which I enjoy), so if you’re craving high heat or fast paced action, it might feel gentler than expected.
It’s perfect for fans of small town romance who appreciate stories about rebuilding (both literal inns and emotional walls), found safety in another person, and the quiet power of someone who simply shows up.

If you’re in the mood for tender, hopeful vibes with a touch of suspense and steam that builds, At First Spark is worth the a pickup. It left me smiling and wanting more time in this cozy coastal town.

Highly recommend for a comforting, feel-good read with heart.

A warm, heartfelt slowburn that delivers exactly what it promises.♥️

***I received this arc from author in exchange for my honest review.***

This was a strong 3.5/5 read for me. Renee Harless has a way with words that make you feel like you are part of the story, meaning you can feel, see & hear what the MMC/FMC are experiencing and this is SO true for this book. I was so glad to be back in Coral Bell Cove again with the Wright family! This story is a sweet, slow burn and Holt, the MMC, made me feel all the feels. He is a quiet unassuming guy just living his life in the town he grew up in. Fighting fires in the newly formed fire house and with one such fire, at an old carriage house on the property of The Carrington Inn which is in need of reconstruction, that he comes to meet Lark, who is desperately trying to put out the fire with a garden hose. Their story unfolds from that point, with a slow burn, tension filled banter. Lark struggling with her life that had lead her to Coral Bell Cove, for a fresh start and her desire to remodel the Inn from the bare bones to the vision her dad had for the Inn. Holt trying to help her with his strength and his kind heart. Lark is bit of a “hot mess” Holt is the kind of guy who will be there to take control of a life situations that arise in a way that does not seem to be demanding in his sweet, “sensitive to her feelings” kind of way. This book was a good read & again when reading this series and this town/family it makes me wish I was part of this family/town and living on their farm! This book I could see as a Hallmark movie like the others in this series! This book is available to read on 5/20

Tropes:
~Small-town coastal romance
~Firefighter hero who will ruin you emotionally
~Forced proximity
~Matchmaking dog named Rook
~Slow burn/tension filled
~Small town gossip that spreads like wildfire
~MMC family is da bomb
~Farm house with feelings :)

Lark came to Coral Bell Cove to honour her father’s memory by restoring the property he obsessed over for years. Finding the Inn in worse condition than she expected didn’t stop her, and with fierce determination she begins the process of rebuilding, trying to find the missing pieces of herself in the process. When a mysterious fire on the property forces her to find somewhere else to stay, one of the firefighters offers her a bed, and a quiet steadiness that keeps her grounded when it feels like everything is collapsing around her.

Holt became a firefighter to prove to himself, and his family, that he could be more. Used to being underestimated, he sees this as his opportunity to do something meaningful. When he finds Lark standing next to a structure fire in the middle of the night, holding a garden hose, he knows there’s something different about her. While offering her a place to stay doesn’t come with ulterior motives, he soon finds himself unable to deny the embers simmering between them. But while both of them are trying to outrun their pasts, someone is refusing to let them forget.

I received an early copy of this book from the Author Agency and really enjoyed it. While the epitomy of a slow-burn, small town romance, this story had elements to set it aside from others. With both Lark and Holt having people from their pasts refusing to let go, readers were kept in suspense wondering who was after them, and how far they were willing to take things to get what they wanted. The Wright family was just as overbearing as always, loving loudly and proudly and immediately welcoming Lark, even when she wasn’t sure she would ever stay. Most of all, the love between Lark and Holt was slow and steady, until it finally ignited into an unstoppable inferno.

I was lucky enough to be an ARC reader for At First Spark and I absolutely loved Lark & Holt’s story. ❤️

First of all, Lark saving the stray dog made me smile instantly 😊 It was such a sweet moment and gave such a good glimpse into who she is.

When Lark’s inn catches fire and Holt gives her his bed because she has nowhere else to go… my heart melted. The way he quietly takes care of her without expecting anything in return is everything.

And when Holt gets hurt? The way Lark reacts hits hard and fast. You can feel how much she cares about him, even before she’s ready to admit it to herself. That emotional shift was written so well.

Holt falling first made this even sweeter. He doesn’t want to say the words out loud because that would make it real, and he’s terrified of losing her. What made it so special is that he fell in love in all the tiny moments the quiet, everyday things that slowly became everything.

Then the storm hits… and they finally give in to the tension 🔥 The spicy scenes were written SO well. Lark having a little bite to her made their chemistry even better, and Holt absolutely loving that side of her was perfect. And when he calls her “sweetheart”? I melted 🤩

The fire scene near the end had me stressed! The second Holt realizes she’s still inside, he rushes in to save her without hesitation, even getting hurt making sure she gets out safely. That moment said everything about how deeply he loves her.
And the ending? Lark choosing forever felt like the perfect answer. ❤️

This book gave me small town charm, emotional vulnerability, amazing chemistry, and a love story that builds through all the little moments that matter most 🫶🏻

I thoroughly enjoyed the slow-burning romance between Lark and Holt. The characters were well-developed, and the added suspense to the plot kept me engaged.

From the moment I met Holt, I was immediately drawn to his genuine, kind, loving, and flirtatious. nature. His protective and helpful demeanor, along with the unwavering support and love from his family, made him a truly endearing character. His willingness to show vulnerability only made me admire him more.

Lark, on the other hand, took some time to warm up to. Her guarded nature was understandable once her backstory was revealed, and her journey to opening up to others, especially with the help of a small and fuzzy companion, was heartwarming.

The dynamic between Holt and Lark, with the push and pull in their relationship, added depth to the story. Holt knew when to gently push Lark out of her comfort zone and when to give her space. The progression of the romance between the couple was sweet and heartwarming, showcasing growth, healing, trust-building, and the formation of a found family.

The supporting characters, especially Holt's family, provided a comforting presence for Lark and added a sense of warmth to the story. Lark's friend Nolan remained a mysterious figure, keeping me intrigued with his motives.

The suspense and mystery elements in the plot kept me guessing and added an exciting twist to the story. Overall, I found the plot engaging, hopeful, and delightful. I am eagerly anticipating the next release in this series.

🔥 At First Spark - ARC Review 🔥

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was such an emotional and comforting small-town romance!
Lark and Holt completely won me over with their quiet, steady connection. What I loved most is that their relationship never felt forced. When Holt offers Lark a place to stay after the fire at the inn, there’s no hidden agenda rather just genuine kindness and this immediate sense that he wants to protect her without taking away her independence. And honestly? That made the slow burn work SO well. Holt falling first absolutely melted me. He’s the kind of MMC who shows love in quiet ways : showing up, helping without being asked, making her feel less alone. And Lark, while trying to rebuild both the inn and herself, slowly starts letting someone in again.

The small-town atmosphere added so much warmth to the story too. The family dynamics, the community, everyone being involved in everyone’s business in the best way. I also loved the suspense and angst, I genuinely kept wondering who was behind everything happening around Lark.

While this one wasn’t an all-time favorite for me, it still had so much heart. The romance felt tender and genuine, the emotional moments really landed, and by the end I was completely invested in Lark and Holt finding their forever. Coral Bell Cove continues to feel like the kind of place you never want to leave, and I already can’t wait to come back to this world !

Thank so much to @renee_harless for this ARC !

At First Spark ( Coral Bell Cove Series Book 4 ) what to expect!! 🏠 Small Town 👨‍🚒Firefighter 💜Second Chance 🔥Slow Burn and all the feels Book 4 already and I’m just so freaking obsessed and in love with this absolutely amazing series . I mean how do you even choose a favorite couple/ or journey when each literally owns a piece of your heart 💜 well truth be told, I never thought it would be possible. But something about Lark and Holts characters just pulled me right in , what is was exactly I’m not really sure words can describe. Sure they had insane chemistry. But that wasn’t it . I think I loved how different they were yet they just complimented each other so well. I loved that both had imperfections and struggles because that made them that much more relatable . I loved watching them fall for one another , the way they overcame so many obstacles and emotional struggles to be with one another. I also adored how supportive and protective Holt was of Lark and the way there wasn’t anything he wouldn’t do for her . Add into all that the angst , the humor , the witty banter , the love the passion, the pain The drama ,the steamy , sweet , heartbreaking and heartfelt moments, family and friendships .At First Spark has it all in spades ♠️ I could not devour it fast enough, I could not stop myself from smiling, laughing, crying and cheering from beginning to end. I just loved loved loved every single moment.

At First Spark was a lovely addition to Renee Harless' Coral Bell Cove series!

Lark arrives in town after her father's death to fulfill his dream of restoring the Carrington Inn. And she really has her work cut out for her because the place is a mess. After taking in a stray dog on her way into town (seriously, I loved that dog), Lark eventually crosses paths with Holt, the goofball of the Wright family. Having spent his life being somewhat of the family joke, Holt is excited to start a new chapter in his life as part of Coral Bell Cove's new firefighter team. So when he gets to play hero for Lark, it also starts a beautiful friendship between them that deepens as he helps her restore the inn.

There was instant chemistry between these characters. Because Lark has a lot on her plate (not only the physical demand of restoring the inn but the emotional trauma of navigating her grief after her father's death), she keeps Holt at arm's length at first. The slow burn between these two was delicious. There's also an element of suspense to this story with Lark's past, and Holt really became her protector when she was in danger.

I loved the journey that these characters went on. Being Lark's cheerleader gave Holt, the guy who everyone always underestimated, a sense of purpose and duty, and in turn, he became a safe space for Lark to finally relax and catch her breath.

I received an advanced copy and voluntarily left a review.

This book delivered exactly the kind of cozy, emotional small-town romance I was hoping for 🥹🤍
Lark arrives in Coral Bell Cove carrying so much pain and emotional exhaustion, and watching her slowly rebuild both the inn and herself throughout the story felt incredibly comforting and hopeful.
But Holt Wright??? Yeah that man completely won me over 😭🚒
He’s not flashy or overly intense—just steady, dependable, patient, and always there when it matters. The kind of MMC who proves how much he cares through actions instead of grand speeches, which honestly made him even more swoon-worthy to me.

The romance is definitely a true slow burn, but it worked so well for this story. Their connection grows through quiet moments, late night conversations, shared work restoring the inn, and learning how to trust each other little by little.

I also loved the coastal small-town atmosphere. Coral Bell Cove felt warm, lived-in, and full of people who genuinely cared about one another.
✨ what to expect ✨
🚒 Firefighter MMC
🌊 Coastal small town
🛠️ Inn restoration
❤️‍🩹 Healing & emotional growth
💞 Slow burn romance
🏡 Found family/community vibes
⚡ Light suspense subplot
This was soft, heartfelt, comforting, and quietly romantic in the best way. Perfect if you’re looking for a slower, healing-focused romance with a genuinely lovable hero 🤍

At First Spark is the heart of this series!

Holt is a reserved fire fighter who is trying to find where he fits and what comes next. Just as the job he’s been fighting for finally comes to reality fate delivers Lark!

Their first interaction is intense, fueled by smoke, fire and adrenaline, Holt offers her a place to rest her head as she tries to make her own dreams come true, but what they didn’t expect were the forces against them trying to take their new found relationship away before it can truly start!

Absolutely loved the quiet fighter that Latk is. She isn’t fiery but she has sass and will not be forced into something. Holt immediately understands her and I loved to see their interactions and disagreements. He knew when to push Lark but also when to let her have her voice! These two were such magnets for the other and their bond was instaneous and oh don’t even get me started on the cuteness that is Rook! A book with a moody, cute, scruffy dog…YES PLEASE!

You also get to see your faves from the Cove but even if you haven’t read the first two books you can easily pick this one up and get introduced to your new favorite small town!

ARC Review: 4.5 ⭐️
At First Spark is book 4 in the Coral Bell Cove series featuring Holt Wright & Lark Carrington.

Lark moves to Coral Bell Cove to fix up the inn that her dad had dreams of doing before he passed away. On her way into town, she finds a stray dog on the road, who she picks up and takes to the vet.

Shortly after arriving in town, a fire breaks out at the inns carriage house, and Lark attempts to put it out herself before the fire department arrives. The Coral Bell Fire department is newly opened and Holt is a member of the team that responds to the scene.

The fire Marshall declares Lark cannot stay in the inn until it is inspected for damage from the fire so holt offers her a place to stay.

Lark continues to stay with Holt while she and her contractor begin working on fixing up the inn. The only problem? The more time Holt & Lark spend together the stronger their feelings grow for one another.

When strange events continue to happen, can Holt & Lark figure out who’s behind them before its to late?

This story was fantastic and kept me invested from the start! I was on the edge of my seat a few times waiting to see what would happen next and who was behind all the mystery events! I love the Wright family and I can’t wait to read more about them!

Thank you Renee for the ARC!

Thank you Renee Harless and The Author Agency for this gifted ALC. This is my honest, voluntary review.

Lark and Holt were lovely characters. I enjoyed the way Renee wrote this story because I love a good ole small town romance with intrigue and love in a small town just hits differently. If you love a story with substance and with characters you connect with that you want to find each other and hold on, this story is for you.

The play on words with the fire element and the way it has huge a large part to play added depth I appreciated to make this a unique read and of course...I LOVE a good firefighter romance. I haven't read one I don't LOVE.

Another emotional and wonderful romance from Renee Harless. This book is full of big emotions from page one till the end. I have never seen characters that were so in sync as the ones in this book. Holt and Lark were characters of few words, but what they did say to one another packed a punch. They knew without saying what words and that kind of chemistry makes for a great love story.

The book is full of danger and side characters with other agendas that really give the story that extra oomph it needed. Along with the danger our characters both struggle with past haunts and are in the process of healing themselves. As I said "big emotions".

Overall this book is a steady but slow paced read. It has a lot of moving parts that sometimes I found a bit confusing in some spots, but this may be resolved a bit in final editing. It has wonderful and strong lead characters and some adorable pets. It is filled with a lot of emotion and dangerous acts with a bit of mystery thrown in. I enjoyed the story and would like to see more from Coral Bell Cove.

Lark Carrington moves to Coral Bell Cove to start over after losing her father to restore the Inn he didn’t have a chance to. Filled with grief and betrayal, she’s determined to not let anything distract her. The Inn is dilapidated but Lark’s father knew it had good bones and wanted to restore it. Lark is determined to complete the task. On her way into town, Lark found a stray dog that she names Rook.

A fire breaks out in the future guest house and Lark tries to control it with a garden hose when the local fire department arrives and takes control of the scene. Holt Wright pulls Lark back from the fire and checks on her. She’s not injured but stands quietly watching part of her dream go up in smoke. The fire marshal declares the fire scene inhabitable when Lark explains to Holt that she can’t afford a hotel.

Holt offers Lark a place to stay for her and Rook, in his own home on the family farm. Holt helps Lark with restoring the inn, and the sparks don’t stay at the fire scene. This slow burning romance is one you’ll want to get your hands on.

This book has all the angst!!! I loved every moment of it. Lark comes to town to restore the Carrington House Inn. The place is a hot mess but she is determined to fix it because it was her dad’s dream. She meets Holt a firefighter when there a fire at the inn. She ends up staying with Holt on his family farm because the inn isn’t habitable. The sparks fly between the two and this starts the journey between Holt and Lark. They both are two people making changes to their lives and finding their places in their new normal. While they’re growing and adapting, they’re learning each other and falling in love. Of course this journey is filled with obstacles and drama. The past both of them tried to leave just follows them. They have to decide whether what they have found together is worth it all and it most definitely is. This was a beautiful book. I love Holt and Lark. I love Holt’s family and how they are just what Lark needed.

I don't know what it is about this series but there is just something about the way it's written that feels different, it reads differently, it moves differently. It's hard to explain it almost feels like music in a sense but not quite.
Holt and Lark are fantastic characters, strong, stubborn, disciplined in many ways, yet still chasing something that makes them feel like they've helped, fixed, cared or improved something. The only problem is they spend far too much time thinking they need to do these things to prove something to themselves and make themselves worthy of others. Until a fire leads them to each other. Their communication isn't your usual banter, it's honest talk wrapped in hard lessons, guilt, grief, and at times ridiculousness.
Along with their push and pull is the great small town of Coral Bell Cove, a great group of girls, a hilarious best friend, a protective contractor, a string of crimes, that bring plenty of suspense and a loyal fire department. I can't wait to read the next book!

**I received an advanced digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Unfortunately this book wasn’t for me. Part of that may be my own fault because I didn’t realize it was part of a series until I started reading it. I felt like I was missing information and that could very well be because I didn’t read the other books in the series first. The conversation between the MCs also felt a bit unnatural to me so I had a hard time connecting to them.

However there were good things about this too and I think the right reader would enjoy it. The tropes in this were great. The premise of the firefighter MMC and the new to town FMC trying to start over with the inn were what attracted me to the book in the first place and they are still my favourite part. The MCs and side characters were enjoyable and had good backstories that were well developed.

Overall I think you would enjoy this book if you’ve read the others in the series too.

At First Spark is the fourth book in Renee Harless’ Coral Bell Cove series. The tropes are small town, forced proximity, firefighter who falls first, and grumpy sunshine.

Holt is the youngest Wright sibling and is trying to find the balance between who he was and who he is now as a firefighter. When a call sends his crew out to the old inn, Holt comes face to face with Lark holding a garden hose trying to put out the fire. From the first meeting, there was something drawing them to each other but both didn’t know what to do with it. Lark came to Coral Bell Cove to rebuild the inn her father had left her and to find something she could control and manage.

The fire that brought them together followed by a couple of other out of place incidents causes concern for Holt and Lark and puts them on edge until everything tips over and they must decide how to move forward.

Thank you Renee Harless for this eARC in exchange for my honest feedback.

Once again Renee Harless has just told a big beautiful story in the quietest of ways! Letting Holt see Lark and Lark understand Holt on an intrinsic level, while facing an unhinged ex and a man determined to play as dirty as he needs to get what he wants, and falling blink of the eye fast, through words exchanged with a look, touches that tell a whole story on their own, and soft moments that resonate as loud as a blast, and it works. It’s small town, small world cute with everyone knowing everything faster than Lark and Holt can process it, it has the found pushy family vibes that never fail to flood you with warmth, and it has two people making a choice to be all in so softly and sweetly that even multiple arson fires, stalking, and the loudest of fears are muted by it, completely captivating you as the towns newest fireman and it’s newest resident find the forever neither of them were actually looking for. A perfect addition to the Coral Bell Cove series.
