This season, enjoy five stories about rakes returning home during the holidays and unexpectedly losing their hearts.

The holiday season has arrived, and several rakes have received missives from their families, ordering them to return home. The relatives of these bad boys of society are tired of their vice-loving ways and believe a break from their scandalous behavior is just what they need.

Begrudgingly, they all do as their families ask, prepared to be bored out of their minds, but once they arrive, they encounter someone who changes everything. For some of these rakes, it is a lost love; for some, it is a new beauty; and for others, it is the one person who manages to annoy them more than any other.

*Five Happily Ever Afters filled with lots of heart. Four with steam and one with lots of lingering touches.

Since stealing her first historical romance novel from her mother more than twenty years ago, Ramona Elmes has been all in on the genre. In 2020, Ramona’s infatuation for the historical and steamy stirred her to start writing her own romances.

She completed her first series in 2023. The Nouveau Riche series is filled with lots of angst and steam centered around the Kincaide family moving to England for vengeful plans during the Victorian era. She is currently working on a new series in the same character world but focused on a group of misfit ladies trying to one up a long existing stuffy men’s only club.

When not creating ways to entice and torture her characters, she spends her days in Georgia coordinating her family’s crazy life, refereeing pets, and daydreaming on her front porch.

Thanks to Booksprout for a copy of this anthology and this is my freely given opinion.

A holiday themed set of historical romance novellas from a group of authors I enjoy reading. This is a new anthology and a lovely way to start off the season of holiday themed romances. The theme is coming home for the holidays, with a variety of rakes and gentlemen finding love amongst the mistletoe and home fires burning in the hearth.

My favourites are A Rake's Holiday Return by Ramona Elmes with a second son who left for the continent after a disappointment in love, made to return home and face his past, but a lot has changed in 5 years, including himself. Also When a Duke Falls by Ari Thatcher, with a second chance at love involving a meddling mother, and a mature couple.

A good anthology for those looking for short reads with feel-good holiday vibes, and a love for historical romances. Mild angst, and varying levels of steam starting at medium.

This is a collection of five stories filled with emotion, surprises, secrets and second chances. Although the heart wins in each tale, the journey to that victory is filled with misconceptions, mistakes and missteps. Perception is not always reality and the pathway to true love is not always clear. You will find varied and interesting characters, differing storylines, strong emotion, physical attraction and happy endings, as you read this enjoyable and entertaining collection.

A Rake’s Holiday Return - Ramona Elmes
Lady Harriet Barstow (26) and Lord Anthony Webster (29)
Anthony, his older brother Philip, their steward’s son Jon, and Lillian and her younger sister Harriet, all grew up together and were as thick as thieves. Not only were their estates about a mile apart, but the two mothers were best friends. Five years ago, Lillian and Philip, who is now the Duke of Webster, married. Crushed, because he had convinced himself that he had wanted to marry Lillian, Anthony left England and took Jon with him. They spent their years in Bohemia amassing a fortune. Now the two men were back home for Christmas. At the age of twenty-six, Harriet was still unmarried. She was in no hurry and was firm about wanting a love match. The two mothers decided to invite eligible young ladies and men to spend Christmastide with them, hoping that Harriet and Anthony would each find a match. However, when they did, it was with each other. Was that their mothers’ plan all along? This is a story involving maternal machinations, latent feelings, a mysterious King of Garnets, forgiveness and a touch of steam. The characters are rich and familiar, and Harriet’s curiosity-caused clumsiness adds a unique twist.

The Holly’s Gift - Natalie Highland
Eleanor (Nell) and Nicholas Duke of Graves
This story leaves a lot of questions unanswered. Nick was called home after being gone for nearly a decade. He was the second son of the Duke of Graves and had no desire to take over the duchy now that his older brother had married a dance hall girl and forgone his birthright. However, when he was summoned to the king, he learned that he had no choice. Meantime Eleanor (Nell), whose father was recently elevated to Earl of Warrick due to wartime activities, was preparing for her come out. She and Nick had a garden discussion that sparked the interest of both parties. What follows is a series of strange events that leads to a betrothal, and a surprise from the King. The Earl is my favorite ancillary character. He’s warm, kind and down to earth.

Nothing Compares To You (The Terrible Trentons #2) - Andrea Jenelle
Deirdre and Cassius Trenton
Deirdre was the daughter of the Trenton’s Irish housekeeper, and Cassius Trenton was in love with her. When his wealthy father found out that they planned to marry, he threatened to ruin Deirdre’s whole family if Cassius didn’t abandon her immediately. Cass left without saying good-bye and headed out west. After he left, Deirdre found out that she was pregnant and ended up marrying a man who had also been in love with her. Seven years later, Deirdre was a widowed mother of two running a boarding house…..and Cassius was summoned home by his mother, as his father was dying. What follows is an emotional tale filled with longing and regret. Mistakes had been made, hearts had been broken, forgiveness was required and reparation needed to be made. This story includes the struggles of the men working to fill the wealthy men’s pockets, while dealing with unsafe conditions. There are some intense moments as well as a few endearing ones, and an undercurrent that will keep you on edge,

When the Duke Falls - Ari Thatcher
Pearl, Lady Gravely and Victor Levitt (40), the Duke of Rettendon
Even though this has a happy ending, it is a sad tale. Pearl was courted by both Percy and Victor, who were good friends. She chose Perry and they had two daughters. Percy died eleven months ago and unbeknownst to him, Victor’s mother, the Dowager Duchess of Rettendon, invited Pearl and her young daughters to spend Christmastide with them. Although the two children are delightful and bring levity to the situation, the undercurrent of sadness permeates. Although Percy was the safe choice, Pearl suspected that he was the wrong choice. Victor was a kind host to both Pearl and her daughters, and eventually presented Pearl with a new opportunity. This is a second chance story filled with stong emotion, including regret and acceptance.

How to Lose A Rake in Twelve Days - Misty Urban
Madelina (Lina) Moiseney (21) and Garrick Locklam (26), Lord Warin
Madelina had been in love with her neighbor Garrick Locklam, who was five years her senior, since she was a child. Unfortunately, as he got older, he developed a well earned reputation as a rake. At eighteen, she proposed marriage to him, which he politely declined. Now three years later, Garrick’s cousin Bartholomew has died and the barony and all that comes with it has become Garrick’s responsibility. Upon his return from the Continent, he told Madelina that he accepted her proposal. She rescinded it, as she did not want to be another notch on his bedpost and she could not trust him because she believed that he knew something about her brother’s disappearance that he refused to tell her. Her brother Constantin had returned to France to secure their father’s estate and had gotten caught up in the revolution. Before he died, Bartholomew had been searching for information regarding Constantin, and Madelina was sure Garrick had information he was withholding. This is a heart vs head story, wherein secrets are kept and assumptions are made. Garrick’s actions belied his actual feelings for Madelina, and her pride and stubborness strove to keep her heart safe. This is an endearing tale with a very satisfying conclusion.

I enjoyed this entertaining anthology of heroes who return home after a long time away for various reasons and are reunited with old loves or unexpectedly find love in old friendships or strangers. The stories are very different: they are set in different countries and eras, the characters and their backgrounds are wide-ranging, and I liked the various narratives.

All in all, a very nice collection of seasonal romance novellas by well-known authors, none of which I was familiar with before, and which I am happy to recommend!

I received a free ARC of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own and left voluntarily.

A RAKE‘S HOLIDAY RETURN
BY RAMONA ELMES
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A lighthearted childhood friends/neighbors to lovers romance set in Victorian England, with an added Christmas house party trope, featuring a jilted rake and a spinster, and has mild steam.

Five years ago, Lord Anthony Webster left England after his childhood friend and former crush Lillian married his older brother. Disappointed, Anthony traveled to Bohemia with his friend and became a successful entrepreneur and mine owner. Now he is back to spend Christmas with his family, where he meets Lady Harriet Barstow again, Lillian's younger sister and now a spinster, who amused and annoyed him with her somewhat clumsiness during their childhood together. They soon feel attracted to each other, but their matchmaking mothers have unexpectedly invited some suitable candidates for the two of them...

THE HOLLY‘S GIFT
BY NATHALIE HIGHLAND
⭐️⭐️⭐️

A sweet and clean romance with very likable characters, but I must admit that I found the story confusing. I couldn't place it in any particular era or location, and some of the descriptions and events are illogical, so I assume it's a romantic fantasy with world building.
Nick and Nell's story is a strangers/neighbors-to-lovers romance featuring two people who, for different reasons, are torn from their familiar surroundings and have to learn to adapt. They meet by chance at their garden wall and soon realize that they are soulmates...

NOTHING COMPARES TO YOU
BY ANDREA JENELLE
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A heartwarming second chance small-town romance with added class disparity, secret child and „It’s always been you“ tropes, a touch of suspense, some action, mild steam and very likable protagonists. I was already familiar with some of the characters from "Spine of Steel."

Seven years ago, Cassius Trenton's father forced him to leave his great love, Deirdre Flaherty, and he left Willow Creek to start a new life in the West. Now his father is dying, and at his mother's request, Cass is back in his hometown and determined to win back the widowed single mother of two children, unaware that he‘s the father of her son…

WHEN THE DUKE FALLS
BY ARI THATCHER
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A sweet second chance romance with added childhood friends to lovers and close/forced proximity tropes, which was rather dark and melancholic over long stretches, featuring a likable mature couple—a reserved duke and a grieving widow and single mother—and is filled with emotion, some steam, and a host of sympathetic side characters.

At his mother's request, Victor Levitt, Duke of Rettendon, visits his country estate, where he learns that she has invited the widowed Pearl, Lady Graveley, and her daughters to spend Christmas with them. Victor was in love with her in his youth, but Pearl married his best friend instead...

HOW TO LOSE A RAKE IN TWELVE DAYS
BY MISTY URBAN
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

A sweet and spicy childhood friends/neighbors to lovers romance set in the Georgian era with witty banter, historical tidbits, steamy love scenes and very likable characters.

Madelina Moisenay has been in love with her neighbor and friend Garrick Lockram since childhood, but he has turned into a rake. Three years ago, before he left, she even proposed to him, but he refused. Now he is back and the newly minted Lord Warin, and he wants to marry her, but Mad does not want to marry him, afraid that he will break her heart. Garrick, who has been waiting for her to grow up and to mature himself, bets that he can make her fall for him in twelve days...

This was a fun read as the Christmas season is approaching. I have read other books from two of the authors and three were new to me.
Four of the stories are second chance for love plots and one was instant soul mates who find each other.

Ramona Elmes is an author I am familiar with and enjoy reading her books. This story was a fun read with a free spirited main female protagonist and a cinnamon roll main male protagonist. Their story has some steam in it and I enjoyed the story. There was an epilogue to this story that I always enjoy reading.

Natalie Highlander is a new author to me. I enjoyed the instant soul mates plot between Nicholas, a second son being forced home to take up a title he didn’t want or was trained for and Eleanor (Nell), a young lady who’s father had recently been titled and she is struggling with her identity as titled when she is between two worlds of the one she grew up in and the privileged life she has now. They first talk frankly without knowing who each other are and a tall garden wall to stop them seeing each other but they feel a strong connection between them from the beginning but some misunderstandings and situations prove to be a possible stumbling block to their happiness. I am looking forward to reading more from her.

Andrea Jenelle’s story was set in America and also had a class difference trope along with second chance for love. I found this one a nice change from stories set in England. The plot was more serious than the previous one but I enjoyed the connection between the two main characters. There were secrets that came out between Cassius (Cass) and Deirdre who were previously together ten years before Cass left without a second thought for ten years before he has to return. There was some steam in this story that I thought was fitting for the plot. I have read a few stories by Andrea Jenelle and really enjoyed them.

The fourth novella is by Ari Thatcher, who is a new author to me. This story has an older couple who although were not romantically involved in the past, they have been friends since childhood and loved each other secretly for a long time but they haven’t seen each other for years. This was a lovely story of a grumpy on the outside but a softy on the inside male main character and a female main character who is a widow and a guest for Christmas time of her old friend and his mother bringing her children with her. I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

The final story was also from a new author to me and was a story about a young woman, Madelina, who has been in love for years with a childhood friend, Garrick, who never noticed her until recently (supposedly). They have a complicated past and he became a rake while he was away. He’s now back after inheriting a title he was never expected to have. This plot has a French influence in it at the time of the revolution and a lost brother who disappeared. Garrick wants more with Madelina but although she loved him in the past, both have grown and possibly changed too much for a future relationship.

I enjoyed all of these novellas but as a reader I think I need a longer storyline in the books that I read to really explore and develop the characters and relationships in the plot. All of these short stories were well written and entertaining. It was nice to be able to finish one and be able to have a break without forgetting what happened in the plot when it is a new story that is waiting to be started. I also was introduced to new authors that I might not have read in the future if I hadn’t had these short stories of new writers in this anthology.

This is a mostly great holiday collection of second chance stories. I have read one of the authors before and though this was a great way to maybe find some new ones. Some of the stories have some heat; others are clean reads.

A Rake’s Return, Ramona Elmes

Anthony is the black sheep of the family but returns from Bohemia when his mother orders it. He has made something of himself there with his best friend, Jonathan, the son of their Land steward. He thought he was in love with Lillian, the lady his brother, Phillp, married. But after he returned It’s the hellion, younger sister, Harriet, who has changed a lot. She was always curious and mostly ended up causing trouble. He always spoke up for her when everyone poked fun at her. Harriet can’t understand why she is getting tongue tied over Anthony, the one who wanted her sister. How could she trust the man and what he says when he was in love with her sister, is she just second best?

The Holly Gift, Natalie Highland

this started out a good read with Nicholas also called to fix the messes his brother and father get into. Just as the story was showing promise, it just stopped? The characters have just come to an agreement then nothing! Ugh, very disappointing. The author left a lot unsaid. Ruined the story for me.

Nothing Compares to you, Andrea Jenelle

I really liked this story, as it isn’t about the ton but more common folks. Cassius/Cass is the second son of the wealthy family in the area; they own lots of land, mines, and the bank in town. He has always been in love with Deirdre, the daughter of the housekeeper. His father gave him an impossible choice and instead of making a choice he left home for the west for seven years. Leaving the only person, he cared about behind without a word. Deirdre married another and now has a son and daughter and is a widow too. She runs a boarding house in town. Her brothers tell him to leave her alone or else. Neither are prepared for what is coming next. This was my favorite, and I will look for more books by her. Great story.

When the Duke Falls, Ari Thatcher

Levitt is the Duke of Rettendon, forty and unmarried with a meddling mother who wants to see him married with a son. She waits till he is back at his estate to inform him she invited the Dowager Lady Graveley and her daughters to join them. Pearl was the women he wanted to marry but she choice his best friend instead. Lots of secrets and unanswered questions with tons of passion and forgiveness. The kids were great too.

How to lose a Rake in Tweleve Days, Misty Urban

Very cute story of Madelina Moisenay is a spinster at twenty-one and is always compared to her younger sister. Her family always say she is too plain to get a man. Lord Warin, Garrick was a childhood friend of hers and her brother who is missing. He calls her Mad for short. Now both older secrets and promises made come back to then. Both have much to overcome and learn about the other. Neither are what they seem. Lots of ups and downs but a good read.

This collection is a great buy for the price and a way to find new authors too. I received an ARC from the authors and wish to thank them. This is my honest opinion, and I am freely giving it.

This anthology of five completely different stories, set in different locations and time periods, was a fun read.

A Rake's Holiday Return by Ramona Elmes finds Lord Anthony Webster back in England for the holidays. Lady Harriet Barstow has always been part of Anthony's life, but as a friend. Now home, Anthony must confront old memories of Harriet's sister, the woman he left behind. And then, this Christmas, Anthony and Harriet find themselves seeing each other with different eyes.

The Holly's Gift by Natalie Highland starts with a chance conversation in the quiet of night, allowing for Nicholas and Eleanor to be their true selves with another person. When their identities are learned, the strictures of society seem hard to overcome. Without sacrificing themselves, these two proud, vulnerable, and independent people find love in an unexpected place.

Nothing Compares to You by Andrea Jenelle stands out from the other stories as it does not involve the aristocracy. Cassius Trenton left town seven years ago to protect the love of his life, Deirdre. Now he returns to find her with a life of her own that doesn't include him. With a twist in the storyline, Cass and Deirdre find a second chance at love.

When the Duke Falls by Ari Thatcher is filled with intense interactions and longing that we come to learn have been there all along. Victor and Pearl have always been part of each other's lives, along with Percy - Pearl's husband and Victor's best friend. When Pearl finds herself a guest at Victor's estate the Christmas after Percy dies, desires long suppressed come to light.

How to Lose a Rake in Twelve Days by Misty Urban takes us back to Georgian England. Garrick and Madelina have a history rooted in friendship and mutual admiration. Little does Madelina know, though, Garrick needs to find himself to feel worthy of her, and in the process breaks her heart. When the intrigues of French Revolution put Madelina's family at risk, Garrick will do everything he can to help the woman he loves.

Each of these stories is a stand alone tale that evokes the spirit of the holiday season and wraps it up with a happily ever after. I recommend this anthology to anyone who enjoys novel plots, capable heroines, and swoon worthy heroes.

This is a delightful collection of short stories that pack an emotional punch!
“A Rake’s Holiday Return” by Ramona Elmes
The MMC is Lord Anthony Webster and he’s back in England with his family for Christmastide. The FMC is Lady Harriet Barstow, former hellion, and she’s also at the estate and is now a grown up young woman. She’s the younger sister of the woman Anthony had feelings for. After sorting through his old feelings and realizing how attracted he is to Harriet, the two find a future themselves.

“The Holly’s Gift” by Natalie Highland
This story begins with an anonymous conversation through a hedge by neighbors who are both exhausted by societal demands and bond over their shared perspective. Nicholas and Eleanor meet face to face, and Nicholas falls for Nell. He works to show her that his feelings are sincere and that she is worthy, and can be loved while being fully known as a person who is endeavoring to help those who are most in need.

“Nothing Compares to You” by Andrea Jenelle
The MMC is Cassius Trenton, and he was forced by his father to leave town seven years ago in order to protect Deirdre and her family. His father lies ill and remains a huge jerk. The FMC, Deirdre, is a widow with two young children who runs a boardinghouse. Cass and Deirdre find a second chance at love. This is a very emotional love story!

“When the Duke Falls” by Ari Thatcher
MMC Victor is a mature, childless Duke and he lives with his mother. The FMC, Pearl, is his best friend’s widow, and Victors mother has invited her and the children to spend the holidays with them. This is a beautiful story!!

“How to Lose a Rake in Twelve Days” by Misty Urban
MMC Garrick and FMC Madelina were friends as children. Garrick has loved her ever since, but felt unworthy of her. Madeline’s heart was broken and she doesn’t trust him now. Garrick performs a daring rescue to show he truly cares for her and prove to himself that he is worthy of her.

These are great standalones and in every case, I wish there was more to the story!

A Rake’s Holiday Return by Ramona Elmes
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Harriet & Anthony
1854 English countryside, inquisitive hellion x 2nd son/businessman/philanthropist/fake rake, Bohemian garnets, childhood friends, Christmas house party, 5 years away, matchmaking mamas, all grown up now, steamy
A warm & fuzzy Christmas novella with all the seasonal trimmings! Loved it!

The Holly’s Gift by Natalie Highland
⭐⭐⭐
Eleanore & Nicholas
Victorian London, Lady with a side job x 2nd son turned duke, neighbours to lovers, meetcute over the wall, wise mamas, helping the poor, romantasy elements, no kisses, no steam
Interesting but confusing; this story doesn’t stand on its own and I feel like I’m missing background to this world.

Nothing Compares to You by Andrea Jenelle
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Deirdre & Cassius
1888 Virginia, childhood sweethearts separated by his father, 7-year separation, class-difference, she’s a single mom widow, her son is 7 😉, second chance, social unrest, dying father, conflict, small-town romance, steamy
A beautiful, enthralling read that had me completely captivated – until the sudden wrap-up made it feel incomplete (but... a little birdie told me there might be an extended version in our future)

When the Duke Falls by Ari Thatcher
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Pearl & Victor
Georgian English countryside, small story, big feelings, widow with 2 daughters, starchy introverted duke, matchmaking dowager, intimate Christmas house party, later in life (37/40), variations on grief, steamy
Two decades ago she went with safe and chose his friend over him – and he’s been pining ever since...
I adored the smallness and quiet strength of this story!

How to Lose a Rake in Twelve Days by Misty Urban
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Madelina & Garrick
1791 London, bashful beauty x rake, childhood friends, secret crush, neighbours-to-lovers, tricked engagement, missing sibling, trust issues x prove yourself, silly wager, steamy
A severe case of waiting for the right moment with a nice twist. Witty, playful & delicious!

The stories in the "Ordered Home for the Holidays" anthology were short historical, quick reads. Each story is unique.

A Rake's Holiday Return, by Ramona Elmes, was a childhood friends to lovers, victorian romance between Lord Anthony and Lady Harriet. The banter between the two main characters was engaging and had me chuckling at the extremes poor Anthony went through proving to Harriet that he truly loved only her.

I really enjoyed reading "The Holly's Gift", by Natalie Highland. Nicholas and Eleanora's story touched me. They both disliked the frivolous trappings of titled society but would do almost anything to ensure the underprivileged received proper medicine and care.

Nothing Compares to You, by Andrea Jenelle, was a second chance historical romance. Young Cassius' father refused to allow him to marry Deirdre and forcing him to stop dating her by threatening her family's well-being. Heart broken, Cassius left home and stayed way for seven years. Deirdre never knew why he left without even a goodbye but was not pleased when he returned acting like nothing had changed between them.

When the Duke Falls, by Ari Thatcher, is a second chance regency romance. Pearl and Victor's story was slow to build and but gets better during the end of the story.

How to Lose a Rake in Twelve Days, by Misty Urban, is a childhood friends to lovers second chance romance. Madelina has been in love with Garrick from age 7, so at the age of 18, she told him that they should get married, but he turned her down promising her a kiss in the future. Delay is not denial and Garrick is about to grant Madelina her wish.

This festive anthology offers five unique romances, each set in different eras and places but united by the theme of returning home and rediscovering love. From Victorian house parties to Georgian wagers, small‑town America to fantasy‑tinged London, the variety keeps the collection fresh and engaging.

Highlights include Ramona Elmes’s witty childhood‑friends romance (A Rake’s Holiday Return), Andrea Jenelle’s heartfelt small‑town second‑chance tale (Nothing Compares to You), and Misty Urban’s playful Georgian wager (How to Lose a Rake in Twelve Days). Ari Thatcher delivers a tender later‑in‑life love story (When the Duke Falls), while Natalie Highland explores instant soulmates with whimsical flair (The Holly’s Gift). Together, the novellas balance sweet, steamy, and emotional storytelling, each wrapping up with a satisfying happily‑ever‑after.

While shorter formats mean less time for deep character development, these stories are perfect for cozy holiday reading in bite‑sized sessions. They introduced me to new authors as well as having some familiar favorites. If you enjoy capable heroines, swoon‑worthy heroes, and seasonal romance with variety and charm, this anthology is a warm recommendation.

These are cute historical fiction short stories all centered around Christmas. They are all second chance love stories, which are my favorite. I was worried they all might be too similar reading them back to back but they were all very different. They all center around men who are coming back home and run into the women who were they true loves, but circumstances made the men leave. They are now returning to hope the lady still loves them and, in some cases, beg forgiveness. I enjoyed the stories and look forward to reading more books by these authors.

-"Yes. Do what you do best. Run away from everything and pretend like all the hard parts of your life don't exist."

-"Loss is an odd thing. We imagine it's an absence, but really it's a presence. Like a bell that rings louder for being empty."

-"You may keep your heart on a shelf to protect it, but that is a heartbreak of its own, to be lonely."

I have to admit, the cover bugs me; I think the guy looks stoned or just idiotic, neither of which I find very appealing. I certainly hope that didn't influence my opinion of the stories, but I am only human.

The five stories in this anthology are all historical romances featuring a bad boy who for one reason or another has to come home for the holidays and face his past. There's enough variation in style, era, and trope that I think there's a little something for any genre fan, and you can read something outside your usual go-to for no extra effort. There's a Victorian, a Regency, a Georgian, an American, and a quasi-Regency paranormal.

These are all solid journeyman works. None of them are bad, but none of them are quite top-notch, either. One has stilted dialog, another skimps on context, one is overburdened with clichés, and one has some concerning consent issues.

This was a collection of holiday novellas about rakes returning home for the holidays to find love, either new or lost. Some authors were new and some were familiar. My favorite was the first one by Ramona Elmes, an author I read a lot. The characters were well developed and could be easily connected to through the text. Some of the other novellas were interesting but lacked details or characters that I connected with their connections. All the stories had their own level of steam with different twists on love. There were second chance romances, love at first sight, and childhood friends to lovers. Each novella was a quick read, but some more than others based on how interesting I found them. They were good but not all created equal.

“Ordered Home for the Holidays” by Ramona Elmes, Natalie Highland, Andrea Jenelle, Ari Thatcher, and Misty Urban

-Five historical Christmas tales deliver second-chance romance across eras and continents. I received a free copy and am voluntarily sharing my honest thoughts.

Each hero returns home hoping for forgiveness, rekindled love, or one last chance with the woman he left behind. Distinct settings and thoughtful details keep every story fresh, warm, and wonderfully engaging.

A charming anthology filled with capable heroines, devoted heroes, and holiday happily-ever-afters. I love sets like these with multiple stories!

Ordered Home for the Holidays is a wonderfully diverse anthology of historical romance stories, ranging from classic Regency and Georgian settings to unique Omegaverse twists. Each author brings their own voice and charm, giving every story its own distinct beauty.

While I didn’t connect equally with every single story, the overall reading experience was genuinely enjoyable. The variety kept things fresh, and I loved seeing how different authors interpreted the holiday theme through their respective historical (and sometimes fantastical) lenses.

If you enjoy historical romance with a mix of tones, styles, and subgenres, this anthology is definitely worth picking up for the holidays.

Written to hold the reader's attention and turning the pages. Full of drama, secrets, love, intrigue, forgiveness, friends, family, happiness, steam, second chances and the Christmas holidays. Each one of these characters bring many different emotional journeys to light. They all have some reactions to each of their interactions. They all have some complex reasons for not being together and needing to realize it. Enjoyed each each and everyone one of these stories. Would recommend to everyone.

This a delightful collection of stories by some of my favorite authors. There is one that is unfamiliar to me like:
Natalie Highland author or The Holly’s gift
Used modern terms and her stories made little sense!? Words like Faff, a half story about his dishonorable brother and father but not what they did?
But all the others were quite inspirational! Love the Christmas Holiday theme! Bravo well done!.

Entertaining Historical Romance Boxed Set
Five rakes are summoned home for the holidays by families determined to reform them—and each man unexpectedly finds himself falling in love. Some rediscover a lost love, others find something entirely new, and a few are surprised by the one person who challenges them most. While a couple of the stories are more emotional than others, all five are entertaining and deliver satisfying happily ever afters. If you enjoy holiday romances with a historical flair and like stories you can easily read in one sitting, this anthology fits the bill.

2 of the stories are wonderful, 1 is fine, but 2 are full of holes, either leaving key information out or ending up in the air. Short stories can be crafted just as well as longer novels, but 2 did not pass muster with me. You have to read the anthology to see which 2 made the grade to wonderful! Although I received a complimentary review copy via Booksprout, my opinions are my own and freely given.

An anthology that has several different romance genres and time periods. It was interesting to read as I don't usually read much besides regency. I received an advance copy for my honest opinion. I liked the theme of the main male character arriving home for the holidays. Each story was well written. I think the stories will appeal to readers.

I LOVE anthologies! They allow me to re-visit authors I really enjoy, and get exposed to new ones whose writing I want to find and start reading. This one is lovely and timely for the holidays.

This holiday anthology of five historical novellas by different authors was entertaining and engaging. I enjoyed the diversity of this collection of stories from different historical eras and places, but all united by the theme of rakes returning home to reconnect with families and rediscovering love. It included witty childhood friends to lovers, a heartfelt small town and second chance tale, a playful Georgian wager, a tender later in life love story, and an insta love with whimsical flair. Together, they balance sweet, steamy, and emotional storytelling with delightful characters and well written happily ever after. I highly recommend reading!

I would like to thank the author for a free copy of the book in exchange for an honest review.

My favourites were Jenelle’s story set in late 19th c America and Thatcher’s second chance romance.

I just finished the five stories in Ordered Home for the Holidays. Each story is a different timeline and different world locations. The main characters are previously involved either by relatives or by friends Most have unrequited love that finally get recognized or acknowledged. Each story is a stand alone.and can be read as single entry.
Well written and engaging characters with expected endings but not the same settings or responses. Nothing canned but generally thought thru scenes and descriptions. I would recommend each short story for reading or better yet each story could be expanded to full length and including past history, I did enjoy each one Thanks
