He thought he’d already survived the worst. He was wrong.
Connor Devlin is a broken man, war veteran, bestselling author, and widower drowning in guilt. When his therapist finally cuts him loose, Connor vanishes into the North Carolina backwoods, carrying nothing but regret… and the ancient Seal of Solomon burned into his flesh. A mark with a past as dark as his own.
But the storm he’s trying to outrun rides with him. Snow pounds the mountains, shadows stalk his every step, and the cursed town of Lure Falls waits with teeth bared. Trapped with a stray dog at his side and something primal clawing at his door, Connor realises the real monster isn’t outside.
It’s the one he brought with him.
Legends of the Lure is the first book in the Seal of the Chosen series by Max Sinclair, a supernatural horror thriller perfect for fans of Dean Koontz, Stephen King, and dark, atmospheric suspense.

Well, Mr. Max Sinclair, you're certainly tried to fill some mighty big shoes here imho – unless I am completely mistaken. I regard/read this novel as a pastiche, containing various ‘easter eggs’. I won't reveal too much; readers will have to interpret this work for themselves. The emotion is certainly there, but they'll need to ‘dig’ a little deeper. (pun intended :))
Luckily, the writer points this out here: 'Max, you are not the author...' [red. page 119]. I truly hope you are a kinder person; you are certainly courageous to fill his booths, he might even have praised you for your stoic attitude to life: 'To behave well and show grace under pressure in the lonely, losing battle with life itself, for ‘does the rose not bloom with grace, even knowing the frost will claim it?'
After losing his wife Anna in a skiing accident, Connor's therapist advises him to retreat into the wilderness to heal, drawing on the regenerative powers of nature. Once in his cabin, he is at the mercy of wild animals surrounding it and nature 's harsh elements. While the structure of the story and the references and symbolism remain out of sight, small details are explored in depth. If you have an eye for it, it’s all there: war, swearing, the paranoia, the fighting, the booze, guns, healing in nature, and retreating into the wilderness to write books and trying to exorcise the demons and guilt that haunt him. Not to mention the numerous women...
“Legends of the Lure: A Dark Supernatural Thriller” by Max Sinclair is a gripping start to the Seal of the Chosen series that masterfully blends military grit, ancient myth, and supernatural suspense. The protagonist, war veteran Connor Devlin, is a compelling character whose journey into the eerie North Carolina backwoods feels both personal and epic, especially with the Seal of Solomon burned into his flesh—a fascinating element for fans of biblical lore like myself.
What truly sets this novel apart are the unique animal guardians: Thor the dog, Cruelty the bear, and Madness the bobcat. As a passionate animal advocate, I appreciated how these creatures were portrayed not just as companions but as fierce protectors, adding depth and an emotional layer to the story that elevated it above typical supernatural thrillers.
Sinclair’s vivid descriptions of Lure Falls build a dark, foreboding atmosphere that kept me hooked from start to finish. The pace is well-balanced, mixing action-packed sequences with suspenseful, eerie moments that slowly unveil the town’s cursed history.
Overall, “Legends of the Lure” is an enthralling read for lovers of mythology, supernatural thrillers, and stories where animals play pivotal roles. I highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys a dark, immersive adventure with heart and mythological intrigue. Looking forward to the next installment in the series!
I started reading "Legends of the Lure" with little expectations since a friend had given me such a glowing recommendation, and I wasn't sure if I was going to like it. Well, I just don't like it, I LOVE IT!! There're few books that wow me as this one, which it shouldn't surprise me since the author, Max Sinclair, has honed his writing and narrative skills with some of my favorite writers, like Stephen King and Dan Brown. The book is well written with a plot that takes the reader at a fast pace through the eyes and minds of characters, both complex and flawed, who navigate through life's worst nightmares, some of their own making and others brought on by fate. This book is to be savored in each chapter as the protagonist evolves and goes in search of a much needed new beginning that takes his mind and life to a new stage where he's sober and somewhat healed from personal loss and guilt. This book can't be set aside or put down. You simply have to read it till the end, or the suspense won't let you rest. This is why I gave 5 stars to Legends of the Lure and to Mr. Sinclair, for having shared his talent for gripping storytelling, one more time. I'm looking forward to the next book.
I received a copy of Legends of the Lure from the author and was completely blown away. It’s rare to find a novel that balances psychological realism with supernatural suspense so seamlessly. Connor Devlin’s emotional struggle is both painful and inspiring, and Max Sinclair’s ability to capture that raw humanity makes this book stand out. The story is full of symbolism, atmosphere, and heart. The cursed town of Lure Falls becomes a metaphor for grief and guilt, while the storm outside mirrors the one raging within. It’s beautifully written and emotionally rich, with moments of horror that cut deep not because of what’s scary, but because of what’s true. I’ll be recommending this to every reader I know who loves literary thrillers, dark mysteries, and emotional storytelling that lingers long after the final page.

This is a good verses evil book. A book of mystery and macabre. Of the Seal of Soloman saving everyone from an evil demon through a sixty year old retired solider. It's an intriguing story that kept me on the edge waiting for the next chapter. I recommend this to those who enjoy an exciting storyline. Thank you Max Sinclair for a great book.
I was fortunate enough to get a copy of this book from the author. As a woman, I really loved that there was less violence! My husband loves his other books. But this one was great for me. So entertaining and so fascinating. A great read!
