3.5 stars and why I wish Goodreads would allow 1/2 star ratings. I like the characters, and enjoy spending 250 pages with them. I think this is one of the better outings in the series, and will be looking forward to the next.
This is the eleventh book in the Augusta Peel mystery series. Author Emily Organ brings us another thoroughly enjoyable and intriguing mystery.
The book takes place in a snowy, cold London right before Christmas, and there is plenty to shiver about as Augusta and Philip travel around gathering clues to the puzzling murder of Veronica, the youngest sister of an extraordinary group of five sisters.
You never know who to believe as the sisters are definitely hiding much or perhaps "embroidering the truth". I really became immersed in the book and couldn't put it down. There are also appearances of the series favorite characters Fred the bookstore assistant, Lady Hereford, D.I. Joyce, and of course Sparky the canary.
I especially like Emily's books because they contain interesting facts about London at that time woven into the plot. She does good historical research for each book. Highly recommended!!
Wow! This is the most twisty book I think I've read in all the Mrs Peel stories. A young socialite is found murdered in Hyde Park and the list of suspects is long. Mrs Peel and Mr Fisher have a difficult time trying to assess what happened, as it seems everyone is hiding something. And the twists just kept coming! The atmosphere and the people and the places were all very well done and I found that I could get lost there in the 1920s with all the descriptions. In my opinion, this book is definitely a winner. Well done, Emily Organ. I received an ARC of this book and am leaving my voluntary review.
I truly enjoy the characters in these books. It's nice to read about Amanda, who is just an average looking woman who also happens to be great at solving mysteries. And Phillip, formerly of Scotland Yard, who, with Amanda, make a great investigative team. There are lots of secrets to be discovered in order to find the murderer, and one can't take what people say at face value. These books are a very enjoyable read.
I guess I've finished this series (for now). I've read them all and the gtoup progressed nicely, the most recent were the best. This finds a murder in the snow just before Christmas. We even find Philip iceskating with his cane. This involves a family of five socialite sisters and a deception about family history. It's Augusta and Philip at their best.
A good entry in this series. It was nice to spend Christmas with Augusta, Phillip and company. The mystery was good. Augusta and Phillip try to unravel the story of 5 mysterious sisters after one of them is murdered. As always, I feel like the language is a little stiff, but the characters have good hearts.
A well crafted plot! Very enjoyable! I would have given it 5 stars but the author failed to mention who would look after the little terrier,Tennyson! Readers want to know these things!
Emily Organ has created a fantastic Christmas murder mystery with Augusta Peel in pursuit of the killer. Its a page by page adventure and will keep you guessing till the very end
Really enjoyed reading The Hyde Park Murder. Once again it was written in true English style where you didn’t know who did it till the very end, I was totally surprised. I recommend the book to anyone who enjoys a good murder mystery.
What a beautiful ending, but before we get there we have some surprises to discover. The story gently evolves to produce a few characters we didn't expect. What a pleasant story. Perfect for our holiday season. Highly Recommended.
I rather enjoyed this one. A little thrill for a Christmas read with a slight Agatha Christie flavor. Five glamorous sisters with an interesting past, but when one ends up dead suddenly all is not as it seems...
I didn't find this one very interesting. I felt the plot rather dull for the 5 sisters. And Augusta seems to be a weaker character. She's a runaway from the upper class, a store owner and most of all a retired agent of the underground during the war. Maybe it's because romance is settling in.
A most enjoyable 11th book in this delightful series with the regular cast of engaging characters, the development of their own stories as well as the twisty well cultivated main plot. A great read
The Augusta Peel 1920s Mystery Series has been wonderful to read. The latest in the series, 'The Hyde Park Murder,' is a fantastic addition to the series!
