The good parts first. This book is part of Abney Park's Air Ship Pirates chronicles and world. It marks the first in a new series, so if you haven't read the first 3 books or series, you're okay.

Set in an alternate future timeline where an asteroid or comet has hit the moon, breaking it apart. This follows the events after as people scramble to make it into orbit to explore and collect the new, various minerals. The story also borrows elements from Polynesian mythology, fast paced and engaging. The story builds on the songs and music from Abney Park, and odds are fairly good that if you like the book, you may enjoy the music and vice versa.

The bad parts and why I've given this book 4 stars are that there are typos early on. Those ones are easy to overlook and forgive. Getting to the last 60 pages or so of the book, and those typos are more prominent, there's a formatting issue where one page ends, giving you the sense the chapter has ended, and then the next page starts off again with no new chapter. Meaning a full half page of blank space that is wasted.

The next jarring editing error is that the creatures known as cephlowelps suddenly have their names changed to cellowelps.

If you sit down to read this book in the same vain as the old 1950's Science Fiction shows and like Flash Gordon, it will be a lot of fun.

This book is in the same universe as and takes place after The Airship Pirate Chronicles. It's also the first book of a new series.
I read a print edition and that's where the only problems were. Some paragraphs were duplicated. Some words had missing letters. And there were some spacing issues. So just print editing things is why I'm saying four stars.
The story was engaging and entertaining. I read it in four days because I kept loosing track of time and reading longer than intended. If you like Capt. Robert's other books and especially if you remember the RPG's Spelljammer or Space:1889 (if you know, you know), then you should check out Sailing Deep Sky.
