Be Careful of What You Buy in a Thrift Store!

Small backstory:

Scott and Wendy are browsing through a thrift store when Wendy sees an antique table that would be perfect for Thanksgiving. Scott isn't so sure about it as to him the table gives off some kind of creepy vibes but he shrugs it off and they end up buying the table.

As soon as it is delivered some crazy things start to happen involving the table and within just a day or so Wendy starts experiencing sleepwalking issues and zoning out episodes. Scott knows that it is somehow connected to the table but what he doesn't know is that he will be regretting ever laying eyes on that table as the table seems to have a life of its own!

That is about all I can hand out with a small backstory so if you are intrigued then go read this book!

Thoughts:

This was my first time reading this author and I was hooked into this book right away as the story just flows along. The story kept me glued to my kindle as I had a hard time putting it down! The story moves fast as the pace picks up with more things happening to the characters.

There is a twist though near the end of the book that I wasn't expecting and the book literally accelerated into high gear and I finished the last 20% within an hour as I could not break away from the story!

Looking forward to reading more books by this author as it seems he has quite a few books floating around out there in the book world! Giving this book five "Twisted Terror" stars!

I don’t think I’ll be buying a table for Thanksgiving this year!

This one was different.. A fun & quick read that made me want to read the other books in this Strange Haunted Places series. I could tell early on that Scott & Wendy were going to experience some crazy things when they purchased this table. And this author did not disappoint with the “crazy things” that did in fact occur! As a fan of horror, I enjoyed this one!

Buying a table wasn't on my to do list for Thanksgiving this year and now I don't think it ever will be....hell, I don't think I'll ever look at furniture in antique/second hand stores the same ever again.

I had a blast reading this and had it not been a review copy I think it would have been fun to read this in the advent calendar style it's written. Apparently this is part of a collection of stories that's usually about haunted locations...so of course now I have to check them all out!

I received a copy in exchange for my honest review.

Are you looking for the perfect Thanksgiving horror? Or maybe you’re a fan of advent-style stories? I Bought a Haunted Thanksgiving Table is both—and more. Whittaker weaves a beautifully eerie ghost story that’s as immersive as it is unsettling. I’m always impressed by how he crafts such vivid, unnerving atmospheres that pull you right into the haunting. A perfect seasonal read for anyone craving something spooky with their holiday feast.

I recently read my first advent-calendar style booknin October and loved the experience. So when a Bookstagram friend recommended "I Bought a Haunted Thanksgiving Table", I was in. A haunted table carrying a whole story for nearly a month? I had questions… and curiosity won. The beginning came out swinging and totally hooked me, but then the middle 90% turned into a holiday-themed slog that I powered through mostly out of commitment, not excitement.

The ending finally picked up a little steam, though I pretty much called what was coming. Overall, the concept was fun, but the story lacked depth and the writing felt a bit naive. That said, I’m still down for more advent-style reads in the future—this one just needed a lot more gravy on its bones.

This is an interesting idea.

I like the advent in book form idea. I think that is super fun, but also very manageable for people who don't have the time to dedicate to reading an hour every night.

The problem comes from the story execution. He says he'll contact Tory first, but then he is the last person contacted. Wendy says that Tory has a hot girlfriend and that if he is busy with her, then he won't be focused on Wendy, but then it is specified that Tory was not told he could bring the girlfriend, so why bring it up? At one point Scott says he has been sat at the table "perched" for the last few days, but he makes this statement not even 24 hours after the first time he takes this specific spot.

I also HATE the focus on content creation/influencing. I guarantee this author is not an influencer, though he did capture the annoying energy that influencers exude. Why was everyone so worried about her content creation??? It was treated like life or death and it really is not that serious! Then she called it her "business" that she "started." It's not a business you are not a business owner. Way too full of themselves honestly, and I was not a fan of it.

Overall it wasn't terrible it wasn't fantastic. It is an easy read, and if you like something kind of goofy then I would say give this a try.

This was one of the most fun times I’ve ever had reading a book. The experience was enhanced by joining Sam Whittaker’s fb reading group where readers interacted in daily posts to talk about what they just read and speculate what would happen in future scenes. I stuck to the one chapter a day advent style of this book but it can absolutely be read in the regular way and any time of year, for that matter. I had a hard time only reading a chapter a day, as some of the chapters ended on an intense cliffhanger that absolutely made me want to know what was happening next. This was a dark but very fun story! I seriously enjoyed every page. After reading this, I definitely want to check out more of Sam’s work! Easy five stars for this fast-paced, twisted story 🖤🦃

This whole book was a missed opportunity. It started strong, and ended in a rushed manner. If you'd like a short story I'd recommend reading the first 2 chapters, 1 chapter from the middle (can be chosen at random as they are all the same), and the last 3 chapters.

Scott’s wife, Wendy, is a social media influencer, and preparations for Thanksgiving are in full swing. When Wendy spots the perfect table in a local secondhand shop, she insists they bring it home — even though Scott feels uneasy about it. Soon after, Wendy begins acting strangely, and Scott suspects it has something to do with the table…

If you’ve read the author’s Advent book 25 Days or the Halloween one 31st Trick-or-Treater, this is another great pick. It’s a Thanksgiving-themed, chapter-per-day story designed to get you into the holiday spirit.

As always with this author, the writing hooked me from page one. There’s no way I could limit myself to one chapter a day — but if you’ve got the willpower, give it a try. I loved the creepy story behind the table, and the final scenes were deliciously gruesome. My only complaint is that I wished it had been a bit longer. This is part of a series, but each book can be enjoyed as a standalone.

The whole book was dripping with misogyny which was hard to get past. It wasn’t paced well. Certain scenes were described in such pedantic detail that it felt like the author was just trying to reach a word count. I was really disappointed with this one.

3.5? Maybe? 3.75? I am honestly so not sure how to rate this book. I enjoyed it but also felt that it dragged and had too many unnecessary details thrown in there for a novella. It also was so incredibly unrealistic but then again “supernatural holiday thriller” could mean anything and clearly this is the perfect example. I read this for a bingo square but maybe I’ll continue the series for fun??

I didn’t know what to expect going into this book. Obviously, the first thing that catches your attention is the title. I wasn’t sure whether I was going into a slightly tongue-in-cheek read, or if it was going to pack on the creepy vibes. I’m happy to report, it definitely leaned in towards the latter.

First, what I enjoyed. Scott and Wendy were great main characters. Their dynamic was fantastic. I absolutely loved how creepy it got at times, too! The little touches of horror were welcomed, and perfectly executed.

Next, what I struggled with. The biggest thing for me was some of the chapters focused on one moment in time of that day. The problem with that is that in the instances where that was in the morning, there was a whole days worth of story that wasn’t shared. I wanted to know what happened after that, if anything.

I was going to rate this book 3 stars, but the reason I upped it to four was because of the last chapter. It was a nice, meaty conclusion with some moments that made me audibly gasp. I was worried that I was going to be disappointed with the finale, but I was pleasantly surprised. If you’re looking for a solid seasonal read, I recommend this.

Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

This was an interesting novella. It was written advent calendar style, where you could elect to read one chapter each day leading up to Thanksgiving and the days match up in the story. It was a fun style and gets you in the spirit with some fun horror themes thrown in.

An influencer and her husband buy an antique table for her Thanksgiving showpiece. Then strange things start happening. She starts sleepwalking and things get dangerous and he can't help but get an ominous feeling about their new purchase. Things escalate faster as they get closer to the holiday. Could the table be responsible?!

It had some fun ideas, but stayed very basic. Horror fans can definitely use this story as a starting off point to create something in their heads though! And it was still a fun concept that the author rolled with throughout the story and pulled off. Parts were cliche, but I enjoyed it!

This won't be anything new for the genre, but it adds a notch in the Thanksgiving holiday Horror belt, which doesn't have a lot out there. I think it was fun and festive- with blood!

I really enjoyed this one. Of the advent books I've read so far...I think this one worked the best for me as a novel. There was a slow build up of the story and even though each day is one chapter...I felt the pacing was good...never tried to do too much in any one day/chapter. Not sure how well a Thanksgiving advent book will work in the future since the dates change...but I really think this one works well regardless of the specific dates. You don't even need to read this as an advent for it to work just as a good, creepy Thanksgiving book. Not a new favorite for me but I am looking forward to reading more from this author.

I really enjoyed I Bought a Haunted Thanksgiving Table — an advent-style horror story that pulled me in right from the start. I’ll admit, I cheated and read ahead because I just couldn’t wait to see what happened next! The story has an unsettling, creeping sense of doom that was far stronger (and better) than I expected, balanced by quick pacing and likeable, well-drawn characters. It’s both eerie and addictive — a perfect seasonal read. I’ll definitely be picking up more of Sam Whittaker’s work very soon

So I know that it’s supposed be be a chapter per day and all of that, but most of the chapters were short, a little slow, and slightly boring. It took me less than 3 minutes to get through most chapters and they were mostly like “this table feels weird” or “I get a strange feeling when looking at the table” or “Wendy is acting weird since she bled on the table that killed the delivery guy.”
All a little ominous, but nothing happens until a few days before Thanksgiving.
Let’s be real, if you buy an old table, weird things start happening, you see weird symbols carved into it…Do us all a favor and just burn it.

Okay guys....I cheated and I finished because I am AWFUL at these advent books when they are SO GOOD. Who would've thought that a table could be so terrifying. This advent book starts off with a BANG and I. Am. Here. For. It!

Enter this loving married couple. She is an influencer and he is her editor of videos. She is dying for something in their beautiful home to host the perfect LIVE Friendsgiving dinner!

No spoilers! No spoilers! UGH....well, then fast forward to this table being....well haunted as sh*t by a badass** motherf*cker with a backstory (you'll find out). The ending scene is full of gory goodness and blood shed that EVERY single horror author LOVES.

I will say one last thing for this amazing 5 star review....the ending is the ending of my DREAMS! *chefs kiss*. Read this before the end of November! It's perfection!

Thanksgiving advent

I am loving all the advent style books out there. The fact that this one was for Thanksgiving was awesome.

Loved the story line, and how it pulled everything together. Obviously I failed at reading it advent style but in my defense I just needed to know, okay. Not my fault…
