A fake marriage deal was never in my life’s plan.

Especially not to Easton Bailey.

Chicago Colts flashy shortstop.
The kind of man built for a good time and allergic to forever.
And the one who just slid a ring on my finger… on paper.

It’s supposed to be simple.
A mutually beneficial arrangement.
I play nanny to his son. He plays husband to my family.

No emotions. No complications. And absolutely no falling for each other.

Turns out pretending to be a family is the fastest way to break every rule we set.

Because he watches me like it was never just a deal.
Because he trusts me with the person who matters most.
Because the more we pretend, the less fake it feels.

And now the man who was never supposed to stay is the one I can't lose.

Feb 18th: The Troublemaker HAS to be Easton Bailey! Who the girl is, I'm not sure yet, but you can bet once we get the SLIGHTEST hint, I'll be theorising and shipping. Just excited to hopefully get some Bailey (or even Greene) cameos or mention - I forever want second and third gen stories about those fams!

UUUUUUUGH.

Piper Rayne, I would like to formally submit a complaint because WHAT EXACTLY WAS I SUPPOSED TO DO WITH ALL THESE FEELINGS?!

The Troublemaker is the fourth and final installment in the Dugout series, and somehow this dynamic duo managed to hit a grand slam, steal home, and walk off into the sunset with my entire heart.

Easton Bailey is the Chicago Colts’ flashy shortstop, professional charmer, and certified good-time guy. His life gets flipped upside down when he suddenly discovers he’s the father of a six-month-old baby boy and has absolutely no clue what he’s doing. Enter Hadley.

Our girl Hadley is a beautiful contradiction: free-spirited, adventurous, always chasing the next experience and never staying in one place for too long. But after her grandmother’s passing, she’s pulled back to Chicago and learns she’s inherited her beloved bookshop… with a few very specific strings attached.

One of them involving a husband.

And if you’ve read literally anything in this synopsis, you already know where this is going.

Marriage of convenience? ✔️
Fake marriage? ✔️
Single dad and nanny? ✔️
Mutually beneficial arrangement? ✔️
Me kicking my feet, giggling, crying, and screaming into a pillow? ALSO ✔️

What starts as a practical solution quickly becomes something so much deeper, and that’s where this story absolutely shines. The romance isn’t rushed. It unfolds naturally through late-night conversations, shared responsibilities, stolen glances, growing trust, and the kind of emotional intimacy that sneaks up on you before completely wrecking you.

And Easton? OH, EASTON.

Watching this carefree baseball star step into fatherhood was genuinely beautiful. He doesn’t have all the answers. He makes mistakes. He worries. He learns. He grows. And every single moment felt authentic. The journey into parenthood (both for him and Hadley) was written with so much heart that there were multiple moments where my eyes suspiciously filled with tears.

Totally normal. Totally fine.

What I loved most was how raw and honest their relationship felt. Beneath all the banter, chemistry, and fake-marriage shenanigans is a story about finding a place to belong. About discovering that home isn’t necessarily a location, sometimes it’s a person. Sometimes it’s a tiny family you never saw coming.

The emotional depth caught me off guard in the best way. One minute I was laughing, the next I was clutching my chest, and then somehow I was smiling through tears.

And let’s not forget the chemistry because GOOD LORD. The tension is delicious, the romance is swoony, and when Easton finally starts realizing certain things? Let’s just say I was absolutely thriving.

As a finale to the Dugout series, I genuinely couldn’t have asked for more. It has heart, humour, growth, family, romance, and every single thing that made me fall in love with this series in the first place. Piper Rayne delivered the perfect send-off, and I closed this book with the biggest smile on my face and a very full heart.

Now if you’ll excuse me, I’ll be over here suffering from a massive book hangover and missing the Bailey family already.

Thank you to Hambright PR for the eARC, and congratulations to Piper Rayne on another unforgettable release (June 25th).

I’m not ready to say goodbye to the Dugout 😭❤️

I’ve been lucky and blessed enough to have received all the four arc books in this series and I can’t thank enough to Valentine PR and Piper and Rayne for giving me the chance to enjoy this characters and stories from the very beginning ❤️‍🩹

That being said, I just don’t want to say goodbye 😭😭 Easton Bailey was one of my most anticipated characters to get his book, and I LOVED IT!! From The Rulebreaker’s epilogue I was craving to read Easton’s book because I knew he will be just perfect and I need to read him being a daddy 😩❤️ and the fact that Hadley was his ongoing-off going lover was the cherry on top 😮‍💨🛐

They both already knew them very well, but now she needs a husband to inherit her grandmother’s bookstore, and he needs a nanny to the baby boy he didn’t knew about and was delivered to him one random evening, so it seems just perfect for both of them to get married and help each other, but of course, there’s more about this story, because the tension between Hadley and Easton is off the charts and the bond both of them have with little Tanner is just beautiful 🥹❤️‍🩹

I loved reading Hadley facing her fear of commitment and staying in the same place for long term, her hearts was in the right place because one of the only members of her family that really cared for her was her grandma and keeping and saving the bookstore she owned was like keeping a part of her forever, so her journey to realize she just found her roots with Easton and Tanner was amazing and endearing because she really thought she would be on the run again after spending a year married to Easton, but her feelings for Easton and her new love for Tanner were two things that she never thought she would found 🥹❤️ and she got the one thing she was so afraid to get and at the same time was so desperate to have without realizing it, a family 😩❤️

And now Easton, he was the one member of this amazing men that we never thought would be settling down soon, so when Tanner was left at the bar they all went to, his life suddenly changed and he needs to step up for his little boy, the Easton in this book is just so perfect, I mean I already loved him but how, he’s just above and beyond 😭❤️ he’s so sweet, and protective and a care giver, he’s so kind and willing to do anything to help Hadley and take care of Tanner no matter what, and the moment he realizes he’s in love with Hadley was just chef kiss ❤️🥹 I think Easton is now one of my favorites and that makes me sad because I want to read more from him!!! My only complaint about this book is that it wasn’t long enough, I need more about Easton and Hadley and Tanner and everyone!! 😭❤️ speaking of everyone, I was SOBBING by the end of this book and with that epilogue?! I was unwell in the best way possible 🥹❤️ reading all this amazing characters having their HEA and having those little glimpses of their lives was more than perfection 😩❤️ and by this point I just can’t stop telling you how much I loved this book, and I’m crying while writing this because this series meant the world to me and I’m sad it came to an end, but also so excited about what’s coming next!! Because that little hint of the next book had me screaming!!!!! 😩✨

Also shoutout to that amazing cameo from the Lake Starlight series!! Because Finn and Harper’s book was my very first book by Piper Rayne I’ve ever read ❤️ so that was a full circle moment for me 🥹✨

And yes this review is so long because you can tell I don’t want this to end 😭❤️ oh well, I guess I just have to read them all again 🙈✨

The Troublemaker by Piper Rayne eARC & ALC Review ⚾️

I have been waiting for Easton’s book and Connor Crais absolutely brought his character to life in this audio.

Surprise baby is always a favorite trope of mine so when I knew that’s what we were getting with this book I was so excited.

Hadley and Easton have amazing chemistry and when they strike a mutually beneficial deal, their relationship starts to blossom and watching them fall for eachother and create the sweetest little family was everything.

Also, talk about a plot twist. Get ready because your jaw will be on the floor.

The found family continues to be a highlight in this series and the full cast narration is incredible.

What to expect:
Baseball romance
Mutually beneficial deal
Single dad x nanny
Fake marriage
Surprise baby

Duet narration by: Connor Crais & Christine Larkin

Thank you so much Piper Rayne for the arc & alc!

This was soooooo good! Dare I say my favorite in the series??? Easton Bailey is the hottest baseball player for the Colts and doesn’t get serious with women. Until a baby is dropped off for him and he needs help. Hadley is a free spirit and doesn’t commit either - although had a regular thing with Easton for years. Enter a fake marriage to help Hadley get the bookshop her grandmother left her and seeing the relationship progress was so good. I loved Easton’s parents and forcing them into sharing a room was magical and when they both fall - it’s perfection. The ending shook me - I was not expecting that twist. But I loved it all. Piper Rayne - you can do no wrong. Cannot wait for the next series - going back to hockey!

Not sure how these two authors did it.
A baby on the doorstep and a will stipulation trope. Together. And at first I kind of groaned. Oh cliche.
But dear god piper rayne made it work.

Our last Chicago bolt.
Short Stop Easton Bailey
Perpetually good time bachelor
Turned surprise single dad
Needing a nanny

Enter our little Hadley
Who also needs a favor.
And bam. Fake marriage.

Also that plot twist.
I had a hunch.
And I wasn’t going to like it.
But it worked out, and I did not throw my kindle at the wall.

Overall this has been such a solid baseball romance series.
Now I need to go back and meet the Baileys.

THE TROUBLEMAKER by PIPER RAYNE ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

The Troublemaker is the fourth (#4) book in THE DUGOUT series.

When a baby is delivered to Easton Bailey, Chicago Colts shortstop, with a note claiming the baby is his, Easton’s life is turned upside down. He desperately needs childcare, someone he can trust, so when Hadley arrives at his door with a proposition, he thinks he’s found the perfect solution.

Hadley Hargrove’s grandma has left her, the family’s beloved bookstore, The Story Jar, but it comes with conditions; she has to marry and she has to live in Chicago for a year before she inherits. Wondering where she’s going to find an instant husband, Hadley turns to her on again off again, occasional booty call Easton.

Hayley offers to be Easton’s nanny if he’ll agree to be her husband ( on paper only) for a year. Simple right? They both get what they need from the arrangement and when the year’s up they can go back to their own lives.

As the pair spend time together Hayley begins to fall not only for the baby, Tanner, but for his dad and their agreement to keep the arrangement plutonic is threatened. Can they navigate this journey together without anyone getting hurt?….

—————————————

This was my first read by Piper Rayne and I thoroughly enjoyed it. I admit as I haven’t read previous books in the series I felt a bit overwhelmed with the quantity of characters at the beginning but I soon settled into the story and it didn’t affect my enjoyment whatsoever.

I loved both MCs. At first I thought Easton was going to be one of those dads with no interest in their kid but I was delighted to find that I couldn’t be more wrong. Easton loves his son off the bat and will do anything to make sure he’s happy, healthy and well cared for.

Hadley doesn’t know the first thing about kids but she soon settles into the role. I loved her free spirit, her optimism and her nurturing nature.

There are some open door spicy scenes but these don’t really appear until quite a way through the book and are relevant to the progression of the MCs relationship.

I have to say that this book was a very pleasant surprise! It wasn’t as fluffy , one dimensional as I expected it would be. The story deals with unexpected parenthood sympathetically and it also covers some quite heavy subjects but in a thoughtful and balanced way.

There was a surprise towards the end that I didn’t see coming and it added interest to what was already a great read.

I would have liked to see more interactions between the couple and Hadley’s mum, perhaps with Easton challenging her but this is a minor thought. Overall I really enjoyed this book and will be looking out for further reads by these authors.

I read an ebook version of this engaging book, with around 400 pages, an attractive illustrated cover and great editing. This book releases on June 25th.

With thanks to Hambright PR and Piper Rayne for the chance to read an early copy of this book. All comments are my own honest, unbiased opinion.

ALC Review | The Troublemaker

Author: Piper Rayne
Series: The Dugout Series #4
Format: Audiobook (ALC)

Thank you for the gifted ALC. All thoughts are my own.

It’s hard to put into words how bittersweet it feels to reach the end of The Dugout series. I’ve loved every minute I’ve spent with these characters, and somehow Piper Rayne managed to save my favorite couple for last.

Easton Bailey has been my favorite character throughout the entire series. I’ve always loved his humor, charm, and unapologetic playboy personality. There’s just something about a lovable commitment-phobe that gets me every time. Watching him finally get his story was everything I hoped it would be and more.

When a baby unexpectedly shows up on Easton’s doorstep and Hadley discovers she must be married in order to inherit her grandmother’s beloved bookstore, the answer seems simple: a fake marriage. These two already have years of friendship—and a little friends-with-benefits history—so their relationship never felt forced. The chemistry was effortless, the banter was fantastic, and their emotional connection felt authentic from the very beginning.

Hadley was the perfect match for Easton. They already knew each other’s quirks, strengths, and weaknesses, which made their romance feel incredibly natural. I loved how they transition from something convenient into something real and deeply meaningful.

The writing was spectacular, the pacing was flawless, and honestly, I don’t have a single criticism. This book gave me everything I wanted from Easton’s story and everything I needed from a series finale.

And that ending? Let’s just say I was yelling at my audiobook in the best possible way. I immediately needed to know what comes next in this world.

This audiobook was absolutely phenomenal.

I was lucky enough to receive the ALC, and it could not have been a better listening experience. Connor Crais is one of my all-time favorite narrators, so knowing he was voicing Easton felt like the perfect casting choice. He captured Easton’s charm, humor, confidence, and vulnerability flawlessly.

Christine Lakin was equally fantastic as Hadley, bringing so much warmth and emotion to her performance.

What truly made this audiobook special, though, was the full-cast production. Getting to hear so many familiar voices return for this final installment felt like a celebration of the entire series. It added so much depth and nostalgia to the listening experience and made saying goodbye to these characters even more emotional.

This is hands-down one of my favorite audiobooks of the year and the perfect send-off for a series I’ve absolutely adored.

For the past three books we've gotten snippets of Easton "Kodiak" Bailey - btw, for those who know, the crossover? How much do you love it? I love it so hard! Starlight, Alaska represent!!! Sorry, I digress, back to Easton: so we've gotten glimpses of his easy-going and playboy personality in the past couple of books, so when book #3 ends with a baby being dropped off with a note addressed to Easton at Ruby's bar, like, mic drop! We were salivating for book #4.

So for anyone who's not new here, y'all know I'm a self-proclaimed top-tier Piper Rayne die-hard fan. Like, you wanna fight for that coveted #1 fan spot, because I will! I've read every single book - multiple times. (Case in point: the crossover with the brothers when Hadley gets into the accident? Looooved that! Loved seeing those guys). PR is a "must read" for me, no matter what tropes or subjects they tackle. I'll read it, and not only that, I'll love it. So with that said, ladies - Piper, Rayne - you guys tried to surprise me with this one! (Like how I made it personal, like it was just for me? lol). Ok so first off, I love-loved how Easton's true personality shows the more he reveals to Hadley (whom I'll get to in a minute). Like, make us swoon! And him with Tanner? Double swoon. And we all love it when a playboy falls, and hard. Come on everyone, you know y'all love that trope the hardest. And who doesn't love watching a Bailey fall? Seriously.

Now, Hadley. She's new to us. But to learn that she and Easton have had a "situationship" for the past couple years? And that he actually likes her? And that she didn't know who he was, and didn't care? Come on, we love all of this. We feel so deep for her too with her grandma passing, her bookstore and the passion Hadley has for it, plus we really dislike her mom and sister. Ugh. So how East stands up for her, and shows up for her? Delicious.

Now, I will admit, halfway through this story I had an inkling of a thought that could Piper and Rayne really be so devious as to throw in a true zinger? The inkling grew, I doubted myself but could they - possibly - be making Tanner's mom who I thought....? Nahhh, they couldn't possibly. I don't know where or how I got the idea, but it grew ... and then I doubted it ... then I said, "but what if... noooo, they couldn't possibly..." Let me tell you that my struggle was real. So when the plot twists start unfolding as the story unfolds before our eyes? Oh ladies, you gals really know how to zing those zingers. That's all I've got to say about that. IYKYK.

Then how PR left this one... like, what's next???? Normally you give us some idea of what to expect next, but here we have no idea! I'm not freaking out, you're freaking out!! What's next??? Help me, I need to know and I need to get my grimy hands on whatever is coming next. I loved Easton and Hadley and Tanner's story so much and can't wait for what's next!

"The Troublemaker"
(The Dugout, # 4)

by Piper Rayne

Tropes:
⚾Baseball romance
⚾Fake marriage
⚾Surprise baby
⚾Single dad and nanny
⚾Only one bed
⚾Mutually beneficial deal

After book 1 starring the captain of the Chicago Colts baseball team and books 2 and 3 the twins stars, book 4 follows the playboy Easton.

When Easton gets his baby delivered to his condo building, his life changes drastically and forever. He knows nothing about babies, but refuses to hire nannies. So when a woman that he has been sleeping with on and off for the past 2 years arrives with a proposal, he sees that as an opportunity.

Hadley is a free spirit, a woman who chose to spend her years traveling around the world to escape her terrible mother.
So when her beloved Grandma passed and left her a beautiful bookstore with two conditions, she returns to Chicago permanently and has to find a husband asap.

Easton is the natural choice to Hadley's problem and Hadley is the easiest person to nanny his son.

A big shoutout to Tanner, the little 6 month old baby boy who is delicious, and to the many cameos from previous books. They added so much realness to this book.

Easton's emotional growth was remarkable. It added so much to the story. And Hadley is a strong woman who has so much love to give to the right persons. Reading Hadley and Easton fall irremediably in love was be lovely to read.

Releasing June 25.

Thank you to the author and Valentine PR for this ARC.

---

some of my favorite quotes:

But the big question is, where on earth am I going to find a husband?

His kindness makes me uncomfortable. It's unfamiliar territory.

The ring box is small and navy blue, and when he pries it open, I want him to shut it. Because the ring looks real. Because this proposal feels real, even though I know it isn't.

"now you're wearing my clothes like you're mine, and it makes me go a little caveman."

"Neither of you wanting to stay still for a minute in fear of what you might discover. (...) I wonder if you both needed to stay somewhere long enough to see what blooms."

Am I just running from my own life? But the thought of staying...is terrifying.

"You know you're the only woman I've ever gone on dates with, right?"

He watches me carefully. "Do you ever get lonely?"

Everything with Easton is easy. Isn't that the most terrifying part?

"Why do you never stay anywhere long enough to develop roots?"
I'm starting to think I just hadn't found anyone worth staying for before now.

Tonight I don't have the energy to guard my heart.

He doesn't look away when he says, "Because I've never felt this way about anyone."

It's the yes that scares me. Not the no.

Because this is the first time I don't want to run. I want to see what happens if I stay.

"I'm glad you found it."
"Found what?"
"Your reason to stay."

Easton has never made apologies for his way of life, but when a baby shows up at Peeper’s Alley in a carrier with a letter introducing him to his son, to say he was shocked would be an understatement, especially with not having any idea who Tanner’s mother could be. With baseball season about to start, and all his friends and their wives also juggling their various children, he doesn’t know how he’s going to take care of his baby, until one of his regulars shows up at his door, saying she needs a husband in order to appease her family, he makes a her a deal.

While she grew up in Chicago, Hadley has never stayed long after graduation, and with a family like hers, who could blame her? So when her grandmother passes away, and leaves her the children’s bookstore that was her own safe haven growing up, under two conditions, Hadley is willing to do whatever it takes. She must stay in Chicago for a year, and the clock only starts after she gets married. With no prospects on the horizons, she turns to the one man who she sees every time she’s in town, and while they’re relationship started as a series of hookups, they’ve developed a friendship over the past two years. What she hadn’t expected when she knocked on his door was to find a baby in his arms, or for him to offer to marry her in exchange for her moving in and taking care of his son whenever he’s away. While their relationship is supposed to be just for show when they’re in public, playing house forces them to come to terms with the fact that their connection may not longer be physical.

I received an early copy of this book from Valentine PR and I think it might be my favourite in the series. While Easton has always come off as a playboy, his views on marriage and family are solid, he just never saw himself settling down until his career was over, because he thought he wouldn’t be able to give anyone the time or attention they deserved. Once he got over his initial freakout, I loved how quickly he took to the role of being Tanner’s dad, and while his relationship with Hadley was unconventional, their strong friendship and mutual respect laid the foundation for what they would become. Hadley may not have spent any time with babies in the past, but she became Tanner’s mom long before she realized it, and I absolutely loved watching the three of them become a family. While I was blindsided with the revelations about Tanner’s mom, I couldn’t be happier with how things played out.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5 Stars. A perfect ending to a series that has completely stolen my heart.

The Troublemaker is the fourth and final book in The Dugout series, and once again Piper Rayne reminded me why they are one of my favourite writing duos. I always marvel at how they manage to create romance stories that grab hold of your heart from the very first page, and I just knew this final instalment was going to be something special.

And wow, did they deliver.

This book had absolutely everything—twists, turns, heartache, sizzling chemistry, emotional moments, an adorable little baby a baseball player, and one twist that I can guarantee nobody will see coming. Just when you think you know where the story is heading, Piper Rayne throws in a curveball that leaves you reeling in the best possible way. What made it even better was that nothing felt rushed. Every scene, every chapter, every page flowed seamlessly into the next, creating a story that kept me completely invested from beginning to end.

Piper Rayne have such a talent for writing layered romances. There’s always that central love story that hooks you immediately, but then they build around it with heartfelt storylines and emotional depth that make their books impossible to put down. With Easton and Hadley, I loved that neither of them had experience with serious relationships for their own personal reasons. Watching them navigate what being together could look like, while slowly breaking down their walls and finding their way to something real, was absolutely perfect.

Adding to the mix was the fact that Easton suddenly had a six-month-old baby dropped into his life. That unexpected responsibility added another layer to the story and made their marriage of convenience romance even more compelling. Watching Easton and Hadley step into this unconventional situation together was everything I wanted it to be.

As always, the supporting cast was exceptional. The bond between the players, their partners, and the entire Dugout family continues to be one of the strongest aspects of this series. Spending time with these characters again felt like catching up with old friends.

This was a five-star finale to a five-star series. Piper Rayne kept me on the edge of my seat right until the very end, and, as always, they left us with that little nugget of excitement that hints something equally captivating is just around the corner.

Grab a drink, get comfortable, and prepare to lose yourself in this story because page after page you’ll be wondering what comes next.

The Dugout Series just keeps getting better, and The Troublemaker hit it out of the park again⚾Piper Rayne has written another heartfelt, funny, and incredibly swoony romance filled with my favorite found family, emotional deep connections, a twist that you won't see coming and so much undeniable chemistry.

Easton Bailey has always been the playboy baseball player. The funny one, always lighthearted, the total extrovert with the no apologies reputation. But one night and his entire world changes when a baby is left on the bar doorstep with a letter claiming he's the father. Thrown into immediate fatherhood while balancing a professional baseball career seems almost impossible. Hadley had always done what her family expected and after college left to travel the world. No ties or roots set down. Carefree until her dear grandmother passes away, she comes back for the reading of the will, to find out she needs a husband to fulfill the conditions of inheriting the beloved children's bookstore her grandmother left her. These two had known each other over the last two years. Quick hookups, no strings, both free spirits with no desire to settle down. So a “fake marriage” between two friends seems the easiest choice. She gets the bookstore and he gets help with his new precious son Tanner. BUT, there is such an undeniable attraction between these two. Everything just feels comfortable and easy. Their banter, their unwavering support, and genuine friendship create a relationship that just flows. And they fight it, until they cant anymore and o are they HOT together!

The found family in this series is absolute perfection! And I loved how much they all were in this one! The friendships, family dynamics, their banter, all the kiddos, it is all just so good!

This one was just so so good! Every emotion, a twist that literally had my jaw on the floor, a chance for a true love and family these two both have always craved. Watching them become parents together was truly adorable. These two truly deserved the perfect HEA they got and this ended the series so good!

I am so not ready to say goodbye to The Dugout 😭 I have been so lucky to receive all four arcs in this series and I cannot thank Valentine PR and Piper and Rayne enough for letting me enjoy these stories from the very beginning.

I have loved every single book in this series so far, so I knew going into this that I was going to LOVE Easton Baileys story. Him & Foster were my most anticipated characters and I was just so excited for this book! (Especially after reading the epilogue in The Rulebreaker!)

I have always loved that Easton was unapologetically himself. He may be a playboy, but his views on marriage and family were always solid. Easton did not see himself settling down until later on in his career or after he was done playing baseball. So for Tanner to be just randomly dropped off on Peepers doorstep one night, it was not in his plan. Easton was in shock about finding out he was a dad, but he faced it head on and did whatever he had to do for his son.

Hadley was very similar to Easton. She did not see herself settling down, and was always traveling. And I don’t blame her, with a family like hers I wouldn’t want to stay there long either. However, when she finds out that she inherited The Story Jar from her grandmother, she knew she would be staying longer.

Easton and Hadley, even though their relationship was previously only hookups, had a decent friendship underneath it all. Their situation may not have been normal, but they embraced it and became a family. Hadley became Tanner’s mom before she even realized that it had happened, and Easton realized his feelings were more than just friendship.

These two had such amazing chemistry between them! The tension and build up was incredible. They were meant for each other!

I was not expecting everything that happened with Tanner’s mother but I still loved it! The epilogue had me in tears! I loved seeing all of these characters get their HEA and I wish this wasn’t the end. However, the little glimpses we were given of what is to come has me so excited for what’s next!!

Thank you so much to Valentine PR and Piper & Rayne for this early reading opportunity!

Holy CROW! Talk about Grand Slam!!!

Easton and Hadley are IT.

I’m still in shock. I don’t even know where to begin.

Easton. He is so fun loving, say what you mean, mean what you say, extrovert. He’s loyal to his friends and family. He is also a sort of playboy. Doesn’t do relationships, has a bunch of, honest, one night stands. And then one day a baby—his baby—shows up at Peepers for him. Now he’s thrown into daddy mode and the only person to help him is his “regular”. A little you help me I help you situation if you will.
Xx
Hadley. The girl who is always running and never stays put. Who was never understood by her family. The one who secretly feels and cares and loves. Who agrees to be Tanners nanny if Easton marries her. Now she’s married, living with a baby and putting down roots to get her bookstore.

A marriage of convenience is never convenient. Especially with someone who was previously a friends-with-benefits situation. Feelings will feel, confusion will happen, lines will blur. Hearts will break?

Honestly, I was wondering how this book would be different enough considering Fosters book was the accidental pregnancy. Secret baby, accidental pregnancy they're close enough. Boy was I wrong! I never in a million years could have imagined the twist and turns of this book! Talk about jaw to the floor! I laughed, I swooned, I cried. I was shocked, disgusted, angry, flabbergasted, and happy. I wouldn’t change a thing!

⚾️Chicago Colt’s favorite short stop
📚World traveler inherits a bookstore with an outdated stipulation
👶🏼His son (he never knew about) was left at his bar for him
🫱🏽‍🫲🏾Deal that benefits both of them
❤️‍🔥Friends (with benefits) to lovers
🌶️🌶️🌶️Sugar and Spice
🍺Ruby
💖Found family
✨Happily ever after

This book was definitely the Grand Slam to finish the series. And the bonus epilogue 👌🏽 I cant wait to read the series on the Chipmunks and really hope we get a series about the DICs! The more Piper Rayne the better!!!!

The final installment of The Dugout series did not disappoint.

Easton Bailey has been one of my favourite characters throughout this series, so I was excited to finally get his story. The flashy, charismatic shortstop suddenly finds himself with a baby left on his doorstep, and no idea who the mother is. Come on. Bring on the emotional ride. 🔥

Hadley is Easton's ready for a good time friend. She drifts in and out of town, and back into his life whenever she's around. But she has problems of her own. In order to inherit her beloved grandmother's children's bookstore, she needs to get married, and stay married for a year.

With Easton needing a nanny and Hadley needing a husband, they strike a mutually beneficial deal. Simple, right? Except benefits are officially off the table this time. This arrangement is strictly business...until it isn't. 🔥

Watching Easton step into fatherhood was one of my favourite parts of the story. Given his upbringing and family history, his love for Tanner felt so real. The depth of his emotions, for both Tanner and eventually Hadley, leapt off the page.

I also loved watching Hadley grow throughout the story. As the book progressed, she became more confident in what she wanted and more willing to embrace the love she deserved. The chemistry between her and Easton was undeniable, evolving from fiery attraction into something warm, steady, and deeply emotional.

At its heart, this story is about finding home. Not a place, but a sense of love, belonging, and acceptance.

This book was emotional, swoony, and left my heart incredibly happy. And that twist near the end? My jaw was on the floor.

This was my first Piper Rayne series, but it definitely won't be my last. I'm sad to see The Dugout series come to a close, but I'm excited to see what's coming next.

Thank you to Valentine PR and Piper Rayne for the early electronic copy to read and review.

Easton Bailey's life changes overnight when a baby is left in his care with a note claiming the child is his son. While trying to figure out fatherhood, he agrees to a fake marriage with Hadley Hargrove, who needs a husband to inherit her grandmother's beloved bookstore. What begins as a convenient arrangement slowly turns into a real family, filled with love, support, and plenty of unforgettable moments.
This book completely stole my heart from the very first chapter. Easton was such a lovable hero and watching him navigate unexpected fatherhood was one of my favorite parts of the story. Seeing him put Tanner first, even when he was scared and overwhelmed, made him impossible not to love. Hadley was equally amazing. She was caring, independent, and brought so much warmth into both Easton's and Tanner's lives.
The chemistry between Easton and Hadley felt effortless. Their relationship developed naturally, making every sweet moment feel even more special. I loved how they slowly became each other's safe place without even realizing it. The fake marriage trope was done so well and never felt rushed.
Tanner absolutely melted my heart. Every scene with him added so much emotion and charm to the story. The found family aspect was beautiful, and I loved watching these three create something real together. The bookstore setting also added the perfect cozy touch and gave the story an extra layer of heart.
This book made me smile, laugh, and get emotional at all the right moments. It had the perfect mix of romance, family, and character growth. By the end, I was completely attached to these characters and didn't want their story to end. Easton, Hadley, and Tanner were simply adorable together.
Thank you valentinepr for the ARC!

The final installment of the Dugout series by Piper Rayne. The Troublemaker features Easton the playboy, charmer shortstop who has seen all of his friends settle down, while he happily avoids anything serious. That all changes when a six-month-old baby is dropped off at Peppers with a note, turning his world upside down overnight.

Enter Hadley, his on again off again hook up, she's not the mom, but she needs a husband to inherit her grandmother's bookstore and he needs a nanny. Their pact is born of necessity, marriage for one year, platonic, while he figures out his life as a single dad and she gets the bookstore. How can this last, when they are now married, in close proximity, AND they have hooked up before? I was just waiting for that inevitable moment with each turn of the page.

I had so many emotions while reading this book. The fact that Hadley is struggling with finding her place in the world, navigating complicated family dynamics all while trying to be her authentic self? Girl, I can relate. Sometimes it is easier to stay on the move then put down roots, and face something uncomfortable, but with Tanner and Easton, she might just find the home she didn't know she was looking for.

Easton realizes that Hadley has always offered him more than he let his heart truly feel, and once he lets his guard fully down he knows that those meaningless hookups don't offer him the true love that he doesn't realize he has right in front of him the whole time. With Hadley everything is easy, and Tanner steals both their hearts.

There was one twist that completely blindsided me. I never saw it coming, and while I think it resolved exactly the way it needed to, it happened so quickly that I'm still processing it. Piper and Rayne what have you done to my emotions? You just pulled them out, shook them up, but maybe put them back better? I am sad to see this series end, but the epilogue leaves me excited for the next chapter.

Thank you to Piper Rayne and Valentine PR for the ALC and ARC!

Easton Bailey and Hadley’s love story may have officially become my favorite book in the Dugout Series.

Hadley inherits a beloved children’s bookstore, The Story Jar, but accepting the inheritance comes with a few stipulations. She’s spent most of her life avoiding putting down roots, largely because of her complicated and unhealthy family relationships.

Easton, on the other hand, suddenly has a baby dropped on his doorstep and has no idea who the mother is. Known as the fun-loving playboy of the group, Easton has never been one to settle down. He never sees the same woman twice… with the exception of one friends-with-benefits arrangement.

The banter between Easton and Hadley was absolutely incredible, and their chemistry was off the charts. A fake marriage with your former friends-with-benefits? What could possibly go wrong?

Watching these two navigate an unexpected journey into parenthood while learning how to trust, love, and heal from their pasts was both heartwarming and emotional. Hadley’s lack of experience with healthy, committed relationships made her personal growth feel authentic and rewarding, while Easton’s transition from carefree playboy to devoted father completely stole my heart.

I laughed, I cried, and by the time I reached the final page, I wanted to turn right back to the beginning and experience it all over again. I completely fell in love with these characters.

I’m also incredibly sad that the Dugout Series is coming to an end. Piper Rayne continues to create unforgettable characters, swoony romances, and stories that are impossible to put down. This series has been such a joy to read, and Easton and Hadley felt like the perfect couple to close out this chapter.

I can’t wait to see what Piper Rayne writes next.

The Troublemaker is the final book of the Dugout series, and I won't lie it's my favourite. I've loved them all but Hadley, Easton and baby Tanner take top spot for me.

I've loved Easton throughout the series, and now I know he linked to previous books I'm going into another back catalogue dive (I'm reading out of order, but I'm loving it).

Easton is just a chefs kiss of an MMC, he's cheeky, flirty and easy going. All while being soft hearted, protective and caring for those he loves. He still keeps his personality despite being thrown through a loop, but he opens up his heart for something more.

Hadley is a great FMC, she has a quiet resilience, while being free spirited and kind. I really had a strong dislike towards some of her family members for how they spoke to her, but I'm so happy Easton had her back.

They say opposites attract but Hadley and Easton are like two peas from the same pod in their tendancy to keep things light and surface level. So to see them both take a leap with one another is perfect.

I loved that they had been in each other's lives for a few years, so their relationship seemed so natural to develop. And the transactional aspect for the two of the was a brilliant storyline. I wasn't expecting the twist, and my jaw dropped when I read it (so good).

What a way to finish the series off with a bang! The Hotshot has had my heart from the start of this series but The Troublemaker is right up there with it. I bloody adored Easton, Hadley and baby Tanner. Not only did Easton and Hadley have this undeniable chemistry and authentic connection but they were just amazing characters who you can’t help but fall in love with. The emotions that swept through me reading this book went from one end of the spectrum to the other so fast because it made you feel everything. I did not see what came coming- like at all. It was so shocking but the way Piper Rayne wrote it just made you understand the circumstances and root for everyone involved. Both Easton and Hadley had such great individual personalities. Easton had come across as this untouchable playboy but we really get to know the family man side of him and how protective and loving he is of his people. We also see him be so supportive of Hadley and doing his best to help her through everything. I loved the Bailey family cameos too! Hadley was such an understated character. I got so angry at how she was treated by her family and looked at like she wasn’t responsible because even before she got with Easton and had little Tanner, travelling the world by yourself isn’t easy and requires a lot of responsibility and independence. I just really disliked how they treated her but shoutout to Whit here he did support her. I loved the way Hadley saw Story Jar and her grandmother. You could feel how much they meant to her and because of those feeling and how well Story Jar was described I could imagine it almost perfectly. I adored how passionate she was about making it work and putting her all into whilst also pouring all her love into little Tanner and loving and supporting Easton. I absolutely adored her! I can’t wait to dive into whatever Piper Rayne decides to do next!

Thank you to Valentines PR Net and Piper Rayne for the ALC in exchange for an honest review. 🩷

I have mixed feelings after finishing this book. I loved reading about Easton and Hadley’s story, but at the same time, I am so sad to say goodbye to these characters. I have loved this series so much, and Easton and Hadley’s story was the perfect conclusion to this series.

I listened to the audiobook, and it was fantastic. I’ve loved all of the audiobooks throughout this entire series, and you can tell how much production goes into making sure that the narration is perfect. I love how all of the audiobooks are a full cast, so it makes the audiobook even better. I think this one might have been my favorite. I love how the narrators brought Easton and Hadley to life, and they did such an incredible job.

I absolutely loved Easton and Hadley together. I usually hate friends to lovers, but I love it. They had such a natural progression. I kept waiting for a huge third-act breakup because that’s usually what happens in romances like this, and I was honestly preparing myself for it. Thankfully, it never came. I loved how they overcame any challenge, and it just solidified their relationship even more for me. As for the plot twist, I guessed a few chapters before it was revealed, but either way, it led to a great ending for the story.

Tanner was adorable, and watching Easton and Hadley and the family they created together was one of my favorite parts of the book.

My one complaint is that everything going on with Harley’s bookstore had been a little more consistent throughout the book. At the beginning, it felt like such an important part of Hadley’s story, but then it seemed to disappear for a while before being mentioned again at the end. I would have wanted more details on what was going on instead of just mentioning it for a while.

For those of us who have read the about the Baileys of Lake Starlight, this book is only second to Calista and Rylan’s in the expectation level and the ladies, once again, didn’t disappoint. Easton Bailey is everything we could have expected and his story was tailor made for him just like a good suit. Really, who doesn’t like to see the playboy of the group become mush in the presence of an unexpected baby and the woman who steals his heart?
When Easton’s life is upended, his friends’ significant others come to his aide, but with the season starting he needs a better plan, but he’s not ready to leave his precious Tanner with just any nanny. Hadley Hargrove has been a regular in his hookup roster and, when she shows up unexpectedly with a proposal of her own, it seems time for a you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours kind of situation. Of course, being a public figure complicates everything and the lines are blurred by all there is to do to keep the charade going.
As I said before, Piper and Rayne didn’t disappoint. The storyline, the background, the secondary characters and all the baggage each one has and the unravelling of the most important secret of the book makes this a classic Bailey story packing some seriously intense drama in just a few pages. This story is a rollercoaster of emotions that will keep you on edge until you turn the last page and I loved every minute of it. Piper Rayne have turned me into a one sitting reader with their last few series and Easton and Hadley were not an exception. This book is another chef’s kiss for me.
I’m sad to see the Dugout guys moving on, but can’t wait for what’s to come next in Maine, back on the ice with the Chipmunks, a return to Plain Daisy Ranch, another turn on the Diamond with the DICs or better said, anywhere Piper Rayne take us.

Summary:
Easton and Hadley have a no-strings-attached, purely physical relationship. However, things take a turn when Hadley’s grandmother passes away, leaving her The Story Jar, a children’s bookstore, with two stipulations: she must remain in Chicago for one year and be married for a year in order to inherit it. Meanwhile, Easton’s life is turned upside down when a six-month-old baby is left on his doorstep with a note claiming he is the father. To help each other out, Hadley and Easton decide to get married. The arrangement helps Hadley fulfill her grandmother’s requirements while giving Easton support and childcare as the Colts season ramps up. But things become even more complicated when real feelings begin to develop between the husband and wife.

Thoughts:
* This book did have a bit of a slow start, and I’m so glad I stuck with it because it really started to take off around the 25% mark. Keep reading if you’re feeling this way!
* The moment Hadley’s stomach dropped (you’ll know exactly what I mean when you read this book), I literally felt my stomach drop too! I LOVED THIS PART SO MUCH!
* The early childhood teacher and reading specialist in me LOVED all of the children’s book references. There were so many great books mentioned throughout.
* My heart hurt so much for Hadley as Easton began his search for the mother of his baby. You could really feel the emotions Hadley was experiencing during the meetups, discussions, and everything in between.
* There were so many moments where I found myself smiling so hard (during the silly, loving, emotional, and heartfelt moments), and I’m grateful I read this one at home!

Thank you Piper Rayne, Valentine PR Literary Management for an arc copy of The Troublemaker.

I would be lying if I said I have not been waiting on the edge of my seat for Easton’s book! Easton Bailey is the player who no one ever thinks will settle down. This book had me feeling all the emotions! The ending was also something that I never even saw coming. 10/10 recommend also grabbing the bonus chapters once you finish this book!

Hadley is such a free spirit. She loves to travel and doesn’t want to be tied down. But once her grandma passes and leaves her with her favorite childhood memory, she is forced to plant roots! Easton seems to be the perfect opportunity for her to plant roots with because he is not a commitment guy! Little does she know that decision will change everything for her!

Easton is the playboy that no one ever sees being tied down! He loves one’s night stands and being the center of attention. He is fun and knows how to light up a room. He never sees his life taking a turn until it does and he is left having to immediately change who he is! His past clearly does haunt him but he does everything in his power to love not only his son but his wife! This is the Easton I couldn’t wait to see!

Now that leaves me with being extremely happy Easton got his happy ending but also extremely sad that one of my favorite series is officially over! This is one of my all time favorite series and it will forever hold a special place in my heart!

Thank you to Piper and the agency for allowing me to Read this Advanced Readers Copy! This book was everything I was hoping it would be and more!

First, I’m so sad this series is done 😭 Second, I loved all the books and I felt like each one kept getting better (maybe because I already knew the other characters? Idk). But this one might’ve been my favorite. 🥹

At the end of The Rulebreaker, we find out Easton has a son he didn’t know about and is left to care for (Piper Rayne really knows how to hook you in with the epilogues 😂). Easton is a newly single dad to Tanner and has to figure out how to care for a baby while also having a baseball career. Enter Hadley Hargrove, Easton’s long term friends with benefits, who is looking for a fake husband in order to inherit a bookstore. Both needing a favor, they agree to a fake marriage while Hadley becomes Tanner’s nanny. As the two spend more time together though, the fake marriage starts to feel more real.

I devoured this one as soon as it hit my email. I LOVE a fake marriage trope and a single dad trope so I knew this one would be good. I liked Easton and Hadley together. Easton has a reputation but with Hadley he was different. And Hadley has a rocky family relationship, but Easton supported her. They both had commitment issues, but worked through it together. Their relationship with each other and with baby Tanner was so sweet. And I always love when their whole friend group is together.

I’d recommend this whole series to anyone who loves sports romance. While it’s better to read the whole series, this could still be read as a standalone (there just might be spoilers for the other books).

Thank you to the authors Piper Rayne and Valentine PR for the eARC in exchange for my honest review.

💬 tldr thoughts: the perfect ending to the perfect series

In the package:
📦 nanny to more
📦 marriage of convenience
📦 single dad

Plot: Easton and Hadley have been friends with benefits for 2 years. Hadley is set to take over her grandma's bookstore, but there's one stipulation: she has to get married. Meanwhile, Easton just discovered he's now a single dad and desperately needs help. Hadley proposes a fake marriage and in return she becomes Tanner's nanny but it's all working a little too well and nothing seems fake.

Thoughts: I am so sad this series is over, but this was the perfect ending. I loved every story and every character. It's bittersweet to say goodbye but I've had such a great time reading this series. Easton and Hadley's story was beautiful, I am a sucker for a single dad that hires a nanny and they totally fall head over heels. Piper Rayne know how to write the sweetest and most heartfelt stories, I'm always in awe. Hadley is so used to the "go go go" life and never staying somewhere long enough to plant roots. I loved seeing her make lasting friendships and finding her place with Easton. The cameos were perfection and I loved seeing everyone getting there happily ever after. The plot twist at the end really got to me, my jaw was on the FLOOR.

The Troublemaker was such a good book, and I ended up really enjoying Easton and Hadley’s story.

One of my favorite things about this book was watching Easton and Hadley interact with each other. I loved seeing both of them try to convince themselves that their feelings weren’t quite what they seemed, and that dynamic made their relationship so entertaining to follow. There were so many cute moments between them, and I found myself rooting for them very early on.

This book also had me cracking up more than once. Piper Rayne did such a great job balancing humor with the romance, and I made quite a few reader noises throughout because I was so invested in everything unfolding.

I really enjoyed the overall setup of the story, and I thought the marriage of convenience element combined with the sports romance backdrop made for such a fun dynamic. Watching Easton and Hadley navigate everything around them kept me fully invested from beginning to end.

I definitely wasn’t the biggest fan of Hadley’s mother, and there were a few moments involving her that left me frustrated, but if anything, those moments just made me even more invested in everything else happening in the story.

By the end, I was completely obsessed with this book. It was fun, entertaining, full of sweet moments, and I absolutely loved the way everything wrapped up.

Overall, The Troublemaker is a charming sports romance filled with humor, chemistry, plenty of heart, and a couple that was incredibly easy to root for.

The Troublemaker completely stole my heart!

What started as a fake marriage arrangement quickly turned into one of the sweetest, most emotional baseball romances I’ve read. Easton Bailey may have a reputation for being the fun-loving, commitment-phobic shortstop, but beneath all that charm is a man who loves fiercely, especially when it comes to his son.

Hadley was impossible not to root for. She’s strong, caring, and the perfect balance to Easton’s larger-than-life personality. Watching their relationship evolve from a mutually beneficial agreement into something real felt natural, heartfelt, and completely addictive.

And Easton? Swoon. The way he trusted Hadley with his son, the way he paid attention to the little things, and the way his feelings slowly became impossible to hide had me kicking my feet and smiling like an idiot.

The fake marriage trope was executed perfectly, but it was the found family vibes and Easton’s relationship with his son that truly made this story shine. Every sweet moment felt earned, every emotional scene hit exactly where it needed to, and the chemistry between Easton and Hadley was undeniable.

If you love:
✨ Fake marriage
✨ Single dad romance
✨ Baseball romance
✨ Found family
✨ Slow-burn feelings
✨ Protective, lovable MMCs

Then The Troublemaker deserves a spot at the top of your TBR.

Easton and Hadley’s story was funny, heartwarming, emotional, and packed with all the swoony moments I could ask for. Piper Rayne delivered another home run romance that left me with the biggest smile long after I turned the final page.
