World War III had come and gone. The Great Famine ravaged the world. Humans and Hydras have turned against each other. But can two species co-exist before one obliterates the other?
Hansel wants a normal teen life—chilling with friends, passing his exams, and maybe even going on a date or two. If he just keeps his head down, no one will discover his secret. He’s a Hydra.
But when an attack on the United Isles soil hurls him into a vicious battle between humans and Hydras, Hansel's forced into a fight he’s spent his whole life avoiding.
As tensions ignite, he must join the United Human and Hydra Alliance to hunt down a shadow network of monsters. And if Hansel fails, there won’t be a side left to choose—only ashes.
Lilith Mireles surpassed my expectations with Eden, crafting a novel that explores what it means to find belonging in a world fraught with uncertainty and fear. The story is richly layered, weaving together diverse cultures and societies, complex governmental systems, dystopian species, and super-human elements, underscored by an overarching search for hope amid oppressive social expectations and perspectives. Despite the heavy world-building, Mireles creates unique characters with distinct voices, motivations, and personalities, avoiding the flat archetypes often found in similar novels.
At its heart, the novel blends themes of familial and childhood trauma, the struggle for acceptance, and the healing power of friendship and family while also diving deep into darker themes of death, revenge, and madness. The blend of horror and science fiction is well-balanced, creating not only a memorable world but an exciting adventure. Eden may be Mireles’s first novel, but she already has me hooked for book two.
I was lucky enough to receive a copy of this novel from the author in exchange for a review. I will honestly say that I don’t usually read this type of genre, but Lilith surprised me. Action is very hard to portray through a novel and Lilith does a great job at capturing the scenes with her words. This was an interesting read and I can’t wait to see what Lilith publishes in the future!
