Being yourself is messy, hard, and beautiful. I would recommend this book to anyone who has struggled to know who they are and is looking for advice (maybe even a blueprint) on how to become and live who you are out loud in our world - even at work! With work advice and life advice mixed throughout, I really loved Madison’s honesty in sharing how her identity has been shaped by her life experiences and how growth can be uncomfortable at times, but is totally worth it! It is an honor to be changed by the words and life of another person, which is something I also appreciated about this book.
My Thoughts: So much wisdom and *real-life* inside this book! Full transparency, I’m always a bit…maybe nervous is the word I’m looking for when I read a book penned by someone I know personally. I am so beyond proud of Madi for what she shared and how she shared it. This book is a gem! Like she said “it was created for YOU”. If you’re stuck at a job you don’t love, grieving the end of a platonic or romantic relationship, healing your inner child, just starting therapy, haven’t been to therapy, need a soft nudge to come out of your shell….literally any of these scenarios will find wisdom in this book.
She shared her experiences and practical things each of us can do to show up more authentically in the workplace (and quite honestly, in life). Whether it’s setting and enforcing boundaries, letting people lose you or making clear lists of what it is you want, don’t want, deserve and don’t deserve so you can focus on a plan forward…this book is for you!
As a reminder, you….just as you are…are enough! No strings attached, no conditions….just because!
Memorable Quotes: - “The word professional harms all of us. It is rooted in white supremacy, heteronormativity, and bias“ - “Many organizations would rather cause harm than to acknowledge that they have put harmful players in positions of power” - “We give people the space to heal when we can choose to see them for who they are rather than for what they can do” - “Trauma is not the price we should have to pay to receive a paycheck” 🫵🏽 Write that down! - “Personally, I’d rather be butt naked on a boat, yet I’m not“ 💀 - “Honoring your truth might come at a price, but that price cannot be you” - “Surround yourself with people who are willing to meet you over and over” - “No one cares about my g*ddamn loafers?” 🤣

Her honesty and bold messages send you to feel gratitude in simple things and she poured true authenticity into this book. She is the type of person who wants anyone and everyone to succeed.
