Maddox Security Team Charlie is getting built and we now have member number 2.
Crewe Hawthorne is a rescue jumper who notices a rogue drone during a mission that looks surprisingly familiar to the ones being built by Riley Willow. when it turns out someone is stealing her codes for terrorism Crewe jumps in to protect her. can her protect her and his heart at the same time?
super quick easy read with suspense and a whodunnit. A single story in a series with other authors plus a B story line building to Team Charlie.
Guardian on Base continues the story of the Hawthorne brothers and their quest to find answers about their dad...along the way we meet Crewe. Military pararescue hero who will stop at nothing to protect what's his...Riley Willows. Sparks fly while they figure out who has stolen Rileys codes and things heat up as they get closer to the truth.
Guardian On Base by Logan Chance is the kind of romantic suspense that grabs you by the collar and doesn’t let go. High-stakes danger, forced proximity, a snowed-in mountain cabin, and a fiercely protective military hero? Yes. All of it. And it works beautifully.
Crewe Hawthorne is a pararescue jumper who thrives on rules, risk, and total focus. His life is built around missions, not emotions—until a rescue puts him face-to-face with a rogue drone that looks a little too familiar. Enter Riley Willow: brilliant civil engineer, drone-tech genius, and suddenly the target of someone turning her life’s work into a weapon. When the threat becomes personal, Crewe is assigned to protect her—and from the moment they’re thrown together, the tension is electric.
What really shines here is the contrast between them. Crewe is disciplined, controlled, and trained to handle chaos, while Riley is smart, stubborn, and deeply driven by her desire to do good. She’s never had reason to fear her own work before, and watching that safety unravel adds emotional weight to the fast-paced action. Their chemistry is instant and intense, and for fans of the “alpha hero falls first” trope, this one delivers in a big way.
The forced proximity hits peak perfection when Crewe takes Riley to a remote mountain safe house. Snowstorms, danger closing in, and nowhere to run create the kind of closeness neither of them is prepared for. Even with the urgency of sabotage, kidnapping, and traitors in the shadows, Logan Chance weaves in moments of heat and vulnerability that feel earned—not rushed.
Crewe may be prepared for almost anything, but the one thing he can’t control is how deeply he cares for the woman under his protection. When Riley is taken, his response is simple and absolute: bringing her home is non-negotiable. That fierce, unwavering devotion is the heartbeat of this story.
Fast-paced, suspenseful, and packed with off-the-charts chemistry, Guardian On Base blends military romance and tech-driven intrigue seamlessly. As part of the Hearts On Base series—with ties to other Logan Chance worlds—it’s a treat for readers who love protective heroes, smart heroines, and romance forged under pressure. If snowed-in cabins, insta-love energy, and an alpha who will burn the world down to protect his woman are your thing, this book belongs on your TBR.

If you’re searching for a romantic suspense novella that will keep you on the edge of your seat—and make your heart race—look no further than Guardian on Base by Logan Chance! This story delivers pulse-pounding action, sizzling chemistry, and emotional depth, all set against the breathtaking backdrop of Pine Valley, Colorado.
Crewe Hawthorne, an Air Force Sergeant in Pararescue, is the kind of hero you can’t help but root for. He’s tough, disciplined, and absolutely magnetic. When his world collides with Riley Willow—a brilliant civilian engineer whose cutting-edge drone project is sabotaged—the sparks fly in every possible way. Riley isn’t just smart; she’s sunshine and strength, the kind of heroine you wish you could meet in real life. Their connection is instant, sweet, and oh-so satisfying!
The premise is irresistible: after Riley’s tech is hacked and weaponized, Crewe is assigned to protect her. But this isn’t just any protection detail—he keeps her close, cabin-close, snowed-in-close, and the kind of close that brings out all the feels! The suspense ratchets up as they hunt for a traitor, facing danger and betrayal at every turn. And beneath the adrenaline-filled plot, their romance heats up with every touch, every stolen glance, every breathless kiss.
Logan Chance’s writing is stellar with sharp banter, swoon-worthy moments, and a masterful grip on suspense—each chapter leaves you desperate to know what happens next! The chemistry between Crewe and Riley is off the charts, blending spicy passion with true sweetness. The dialogue is hilarious, the tension is palpable, and Riley’s fears and strengths are beautifully rendered, making her an authentic, relatable heroine.
This novella is everything you want from the genre: it’s smart, sexy, and full of unpredictable twists. The characters are deeply developed, the setting vivid, and the emotional stakes sky-high. When threat becomes deed, Crewe must risk everything and you’ll be cheering him on with every turn of the page.
A definite 5-star read! Whether you’re a hardcore romance fan or just love a good suspenseful story, Guardian on Base is a must-read. Highly recommended for anyone who loves heart-stopping action mixed with heartfelt romance!.

A great story that I devoured in one sitting! If you love a dash of Logan Chance in your kindle, this book does not disappoint! Logan Chance shows how a man intent to keep focused and do the job he has deemed his life's work, without the influence of distractions, and to do it well! Being in the Air Force in the Pararescue Squad is all he has known and loved. That is until he meets Riley Willow. Brilliant Civil Engineer. In danger, as it closes in on her and her work. The pull towards her is undeniable. Chemistry is off the charts hot! He gravitates towards her, with the intent to keeping her safe and out of harms way. Who doesn't love a romance story where the big tough Alpha Male falls first! Insta love wins every single time! Not ever having had to worry in her job, Riley is upset that her life's new age drone work has been targeted. And so has she! To keep her safe Crewe takes her to a safe house hidden in the mountains. She realises her safety back up key is still at her lab, the one that got broken into and trashed the day before. Crewe knows it is a risk taking her back, but she needs that key! When everything goes sideways and Riley is kidnapped, Crewe realises one thing! His need to rescue Riley and bring her home! Non negotiable! Fast paced action that leaves little room for Riley and Crewe to find time to themselves. But a safe house overnight stay has those hot steamy throes of passion happening!! Yeh Crewe decides he really likes Riley.....a lot!! Also an interesting back story regarding Crewe and his brothers develops, and hopefully more is revealed in the next Hearts on Base Book.
Crewe Hawthorne is in the middle of a high-risk rescue when a rogue drone nearly takes him out. Not ideal. The team quickly traces the drone back to their base’s drone expert, Riley Willow—but they know it’s not her. What they don’t know is who’s really targeting her… and things escalate fast. Crewe quickly makes it his personal mission to protect Riley at all costs.
The author’s writing is sharp and fast-paced, with a perfect mix of action, chemistry, and heart. The sparks between Crewe and Riley are seriously off the charts, and in between all the suspense are these really touching moments of vulnerability. Both characters are strong and capable, but they’re not invincible, which makes their emotions and struggles feel much more real.
This is the second Hawthorne brother story I’ve read—the first was Wrangling With the Body Guard, Nash’s story—and I’m really impressed with how the author weaves all these interconnected stories together while still keeping each one fresh and on-theme within the different multi-author series of books that the stories are part of. There is also an overarching theme of the mystery behind the Hawthorne father. I’m already looking forward to the next book, Operation Bombshell!.

Seven Hawthorne brothers. Book 1, Wrangling With the Bodyguard starts with Nash and Delaney’s story. The Hawthorne brothers find out some information but at this point it is unclear how this will play out. At this point, it is still the start of the series, and the books are quite short and easy to read through, so I would read in order.
Crewe is on a mission to help and rescue a pilot that crashed. As he prepares them to leave, a drone appears. It looks a lot like their drones but not acting like their drones. No identifying marks and ready to attack…them. He disables it, and they get to safety. Now to figure out what that was about.
Riley created a drone program and is shocked to learn from Crewe that something isn’t right with her drones. She finds that her code has been sabotaged. With her program grounded, and danger lurking, Crewe has been assigned to look after Riley. That’s how the lines get blurred, those nights in the safe house.
Fun story to read. Quite entertaining throughout. It is a very quick story so some details are lost in the process. But still enjoyed this and look forward to all the Hawthorne brothers.
Guardian on Base is a military romantic suspense insta-love short story. If you enjoy possessive, protective military heroes and intelligent, driven heroines then this one hits the spot. You won't have a choice but to be drawn into Crewe Hawthorne and Riley Willow's story.

I could not put this book down. Crewe and Riley’s story has everything you want in a romantic suspense set in a techie world. Crewe Hawthorne is a well prepared pararescuer that can handle almost any situation. Key word almost. Once the rescue drone system is compromised, Crewe comes to realize the only situation he cannot control are the feelings he has for the woman he needs to protect. Riley Willow is an expert when it comes to drones. Her programming is for the greater good because of her caring nature. The life of a pararescuer and a tech nerd comes to life in Guardian On Base. Logan Chance has written a story full of mutual attraction mixed with the protective “off-limits” mentality, and a suspenseful twist. Guardian On Base is part of the Hearts On Base Series, which is a multi-author collaboration. Logan has also written a tie-in to his Maddox Alpha Team Series, and another multi-author collaboration, A Lone Star Security Romance. So if you are like me and love authors creating tie-ins to their other books, love the over protective alpha, and are a fan of romantic suspense, Guardian On Base is definitely for you.

This novella follows another of the Hawthorne brothers. A typical rescue mission turns potentially catastrophic when a high-tech rogue drone puts Crewe’s military training on full alert. While investigating the rogue drone leads to crossing paths with the designer, Riley. Everything is not what it seems. When Riley examines the drone recognizes the code as her design but it has been altered to attack instead of assist. She sees her life’s work being turned into something evil. The entire base is on alert to discover who stole the code and wants to unlock the full potential of the technology for something sinister. This puts Crewe and Riley in close quarters while the culprit can be found. The quarters become quite small when Crewe has more than just protecting the asset on his mind. Will he be able to keep her safe long enough without fully touching her? What happens when a mission turns personal? This novella has plenty of action with a side of romance. I devoured it in one day. I can’t wait to see more of the Hawthorne brothers.
I received an ARC and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Fast paced, action packed and a thoroughly enjoyable read. The spice between Riley and Crewes was just spicy enough without being over the top, and also without being the sole focus of the narrative. Theirs was a very engaging romance, with lots of elements of danger and suspense. Oh, and that texting chain with the Hawthorne brothers...a whole lot of fun to read! There was a mystery in the background regarding Crewes’ dad that left me hanging off a cliff; but it did not impede the overall outcome of this story. Riley and Crewes get a happy for now ending and I hope to rediscover them in later books to see what the future holds for them. I have got to read "Wrangling with the Bodyguard" next because I want to get into Nash Hawthorne’s story which seems like a prelude to this book and while I wait anxiously for Mac Hawthorne’s story "Operation: Bombshell" which seems like it is going to be fun as well. I had a blast with this book, and if you love lots of suspense and angst in a romance, then this book will really work for you!
Guardian On Base is part of the Hearts On Base series that introduces us to the Protective Alpha Pararescue Crewe Hawthorne and Riley Willow the next gen drone tech he swears to protect.
Logan Chance has delivered a well written fast paced suspenseful action filled military romance. This story had me from page one and I didn’t want to put it down. This one will not disappoint.
Crewe Hawthrone is a protective alpha hero that always takes his job seriously. He becomes Riley Willow’s protector when someone has decided that they need her and her tech. This story is full of twists and turns, some fun banter with Crewe’s brothers, and so much chemistry that can spark a short circuit in Riley’s drones. There is so much to love about this story. I really wish I could give you more, but you have to read it for yourself.
I recommend you get this 5 star book and read it today!
This was a fun, fast-paced military romance with just the right balance of humor, heart, and heat. Logan Chance keeps the story light enough to be entertaining while still giving the characters real emotional stakes. The protective hero energy is strong here, and the chemistry between the main couple carries the story from start to finish.
I liked how the romance developed through banter and shared moments rather than heavy drama. The hero has that classic alpha vibe, but there’s a softer, loyal side that shows through as the relationship grows. The heroine holds her own well, which makes the dynamic feel balanced instead of one-sided.
The pacing moves quickly, making it an easy weekend read. Expect playful dialogue, a bit of chaos, and some steamy scenes without the tone getting too dark. If you enjoy protective military heroes, lighthearted tension, and a romance that doesn’t take itself too seriously, this one is worth picking up.
Guardian on Base by Logan Chance is the 9th book of the Hearts on Base series that consists of a total of 13 books by different romance authors. Logan has delivered again with this quick action packed military romance that drops you in the action from the start and keeps your attention til the end!
You get 2 POV's from Crewe Hawthorne who is a Pararescue (PJ) Specialist and assigned bodyguard to Riley Willow, genius Drone Engineer. There is plenty of unknown danger and threats, close proximity in a cabin with one bed, funny family group chats, and a slow burn connection.
I also really love the strategically interconnected secondary storyline involving Crewe and his brothers who discover a bombshell of a cover-up from their past which sets up a new team that is part of the overall Maddox-Verse.
Looking for a quick, entertaining suspense story with steamy, funny, action packed moments and a HEA? Then I suggest you grab this book for your reading enjoyment!
I was provided an early copy for my honest review.
I very much enjoyed this page-turner about the next Hawthorne brother and his charge. The writing is excellent and I found the suspense, the mystery and the humour engaging. Riley is a smart woman who builds ingenious drones that are used for rescue. When someone is after her and her designs, Crewe is assigned to protect her. He is a pararescuer, with the skills to rescue someone in any adverse conditions. He can't help but fall for Riley, and he guards her fiercely. I love his intensity and his loyalty. I also got a kick out of the relationship between all of the Hawthorne brothers. While their banter is funny, they can and are serious and dedicated when they need to be. I'm looking forward to delving into the mystery of their father's disappearance. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
When Crewe is sent on a rescue mission his past experience gives him insight into what to expect however he didn’t expect to find himself on the receiving end of an attack as well from a drone. When he realizes that this is a drone that was created by Riley and she isn’t controlling it he not only needs answers but he needs to protect Riley as well.
Riley has invested so much of herself into her drones as a way to help others and now that is being turned against her. She needs to find out who is behind it and what their true agenda in but she isn’t alone as Crewe has is not only there to help but to keep her safe as well.
Even though Crew and Riley couldn’t be more different they are united when it comes to their shared goal as they take us on quite the adventure filled with romance and intrigue as they prove to be perfect partners in every way.
Guardian On Base by Logan Chance is part of the multi author series Hearts On Base and it was a good read. As a military romantic suspense the plot and storyline is intriguing and engaging especially with the main characters of Crewe, the pararescue officer and, Riley, a brilliant engineer developing next-gen drone technology. Riley's work and technology is being stolen and sabotaged and Crewe is assigned to protect and keep her close whilst investigations are made. The forced proximity of a safe house, Crewe's protector instincts and sparks of mutual attraction make their chemistry sizzle as action and danger remain imminent. The story was well written and you feel invested in a HEA outcome for them as the drama unfolds and keeps you turning the pages to the very end.

This is the book for you if you’re a fan of drones! The very intelligent Riley Willow is a wizard at programming drones and is called to the Ridgeway Air Base in the mountains of Colorado to inspect a downed drone that attacked a crew of soldiers who were on a rescue mission. Crewe Hawthorne is the leader who was attacked and suspects someone hacked Riley’s software to make the drones attack on command.
This starts an entire series of events which result in Riley and Crewe hooking up and Crewe vowing to protect her. Riley’s mentor and respected professor Dr Lyle Hammond turns out to not be all he’s cracked up to be. This plays into the climax that involves a lot of drones operating and a rescue mission in the Colorado mountains. I definitely recommend this book as it keeps you glued to all the action all the way through!

Guardian On Base by Logan Chance is a quick, high-stakes military romantic suspense that packs action, humor, and swoon into a short read. Crewe Hawthorne is the ultimate protective hero—focused, intense, and secretly soft—while Riley is brilliant, stubborn, and right at the center of a dangerous sabotage plot involving her drone tech. Forced proximity in a snowed-in cabin? Yes please. The chemistry is off the charts, the banter (especially the Hawthorne brothers’ group chat) adds perfect comic relief, and the emotional moments give the romance real weight. You get a satisfying HEA for Crewe and Riley, plus an ongoing mystery that makes you eager for the rest of the series. A fun, fast read with heart, heat, and just enough suspense to keep you hooked. Highly recommend!
Guardian on Base follows the second of the Hawthorne brothers, Crewe, who performs daring sky rescues. During one mission, something feels off, which leads him to Ridgeway Base and to Riley Willow, a brilliant drone engineer who uses her intelligence for good.
Riley’s drones are being targeted for hijacking, and that is only the beginning of her problems. Her lab is ransacked and her personal property is stolen, making it clear she is no longer safe. To protect her, the team decides Crewe is the best person for the job. Together, they go off the grid at Crewe’s off base cabin. With so much time alone, the two naturally grow closer, which brings the inevitable tension of crossing the line versus keeping things professional.
I really enjoyed this story. It had just the right amount of suspense for me, and I was genuinely shocked by the plot twist. I loved the way Crewe and Riley interacted, and I especially enjoyed their moments with his siblings. I really hope we get to learn more about this family. I cannot wait to see what is next.
The Hawthorne brothers will win your heart over and have you swooning over them. Guardian On Base is Crewe and Riley's suspense-filled story where you just can't stop reading. Right from the beginning, we are thrown twists and turns that will have you sitting on the edge of your seat. Crewe is a Military pararescue who, just like his brothers, will protect those he loves and it is not always just family. Riley Willow is a genius military coder who has caught the eye and heart of Crewe. Now she is in danger and Crewe is determined to keep her safe. Sparks finally ignite and these two give in to the needs and wants they have for one another. Danger and intrigue will keep you wanting more and more.
Guardian on Base is a story about the second Hawthorne brother and also continues the overall arc about their dad thought to be dead years ago. Nash, the oldest brother is building the search/rescue team for to find their dad. Crewe is Airforce and a Military pararescue member assigned to protect, Riley, a drone technology scientist and determine who is trying to steal and utilize her work for attack missions. He is very protective of her from the beginning, more than what is required as his mission requires. Things get tense, her lab is destroyed, and betrayal comes from someone close to her.
Really enjoyed this story and looking forward to the next in series as Nash continues to recruit the rest of his brothers to the security team.
Crewe works at the Ridgeway base, he's a para-rescuer, he rescues a pilot from a training helicopter and has to stop a drone from preventing him. Riley is the drone engineer, someone seems to have hacked her software and changed what the drone should be doing causing it to be targeting rather than helping. Crewe is tasked with protecting her, as most of the information is in her brain not written down or saved anywhere. Then her lab is attacked and worse happens. Can Crewe save her and stop the perpetrators? Who knows what she's been working on and how to access the lab and her info? Can Crewe keep their relationship professional? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This is a fast paced quick read with lots of action. Crewe, one of the Hawthorn brothers, is tasked with guarding Riley. He must keep her safe while trying to figure out who is stealing her rescue drone codes and turning them into military grade weapons. Although there is a sub storyline that is advanced at the end of the book that connects these Hawthorn brothers series each book can definitely read as a stand alone. The information will whet your appetite and most likely cause you to look for the other brothers installments. This is an adventure packed, steamy, strong heroine and even stronger hero story that will keep you turning pages. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Guardian on Base is a fast paced military romance with a smart, fierce FMC and a protective, strong MMC. This is Riley and Crewe's story with strong chemistry and swoon worthy moments. Riley is a smart engineer/drone expert, and Crewe works as a Pararescue, where he lives in danger. Their story gets more interesting when a mission is compromised, and Riley needs protection. Their chemistry goes off the charts when they finally just went with their feelings. I love their banter and the sweetness Crewe shows her. I also love how they both are protectors and will do anything for each other. I really enjoyed their story and can't wait to read more.
I voluntarily leave an honest review of this gifted advance reader copy.
A fast-paced read in this series, Crewe is the first Hawthorne brother that I've read about. Other tidbits are there for the other brothers. What was the funniest and provided comic relief in the book when it was required was the brothers chat + Crewe! Hilarious. A lot of poignant moments between the two main characters, e.g., fast vs real, keeping score, choosing vs taking. A great read, and I'm hoping to continue to see them in future Hawthorne Brother's books as a big, big problem was revealed in this book and its ongoing. You do get your HEA for Crewe and Riley, but there is definitely more to come and I'm looking forward to it.
A suspenseful romance with steam and heart! Riley needs protection when her drone program is hijacked to make her drones into weapons and Crewe is the man for the job. While protecting her, their feelings for each other surface and they can’t resist acting on them. However, her life ends up at risk when she’s kidnapped and Crewe and his team have to save her. In addition, Crewe is dealing with the recent information that his dad, who went missing many years ago, may still be alive and his brother is leading a group to find him. Will Crewe risk what he’s found with Riley to find out about his dad?? Another fantastic book in the series!
Tropes: * Bodyguard romance * Military romance * Forced proximity * Only one bed * Touch her and die vibes * Action romance
A rogue drone trying to take down a helicopter during a rescue? Crewe tries to get to the bottom of it, and finds it similar to one being built by Riley, where they quickly realise someone is trying to steal her tech….
Love the banter with his bro’s, they were funny...
This was fast-paced, a little steamy, full of suspense, and some great connections to the entire Maddox universe. I enjoyed this.
