As a massive fan of Laufey's music I was delighted to see she had written a book, and Mei Mei the Bunny lives up to expectations. It's an utterly charming story of self-confidence and overcoming anxieties to achieve incredible things, packed with insights into classical music and glorious illustrations from Lauren O'Hara. As with all of the best childrens' books, it works equally brilliantly for readers of all ages, with plentiful lashings of humour (I would give it 5 stars for the conDUCKtor alone) and a heartfelt and inspirational message. A book to treasure and one which I would recommend to budding musicians of any age.
Oh, I loved this so much! The audiobook has beautiful background music throughout and Laufey's narration was so precious and sweet. There are great lines about staying calm under pressure and building self-confidence and resilience. There's a glossary of music terms in the back, and you know how people say, "I would listen to [famous actor with a great voice] narrate the phone book"? Well. Laufey is one of those people now.
Bonus points for the fact that Laufey pronounces her name 6 times throughout the recording, so none of us (including me) has an excuse for getting the pronunciation wrong going forward lol.
Loved this so, so much. 🫶🏽❤️🔥

I fully enjoyed this short read independent of being Laufey’s fan. I love O’Hara’s swooping illustrations across each page. Each landscape fully embodied the essence of the little words on the page. With that- the story truly captured childlike wonder, anxiety, and relieved joy. Laufey’s metaphors and puns made me chuckle. As a 26 year old, I never thought I’d be wistful of being 16 and terrified of performing on stage.
I am a casual listener of Laufey's music and always love her book choices, so I was shocked to hear that she's written a picture book! It's a whimsical story of overcoming fear, anxiety, and expectations. The illustration is so eye-pleasing, adorable, and heartwarming! 💕
mei mei is me when i was at my first piano recital… i love this book so much, it made me cry. Laufey truly is a one of a kind gem in this world, i aspire to be like her when i grow up
Beautiful 😭 I couldn't have read this at a better time, having a nerve-wracking performance-esc gig in the very near future looming over me. This has such a lovely message of persevering through our mistakes and overcoming our fears. Bravo, Mei Mei!!
not trying to brag, but Laufey personally read this book to me :P (I attended her barnes and noble event at the grove!)
This book is amazing and the illustrations are so colorful and whimsy, just like Laufey. I would of loved reading this book as a child as it helps children to cope with making mistakes, and I especially loved when Mei Mei took a deep breath, which is a great habit for young children to learn for emotional regulation. Overall a great read for all ages, and hearing Laufey discuss her book with the passion and care she has for the arts, especially for children, was the cherry on top!
Such a sweet book! The illustrations are gorgeous and the story takes the classic theme of fear of failure and makes it accessible for little ones. I love the characterization of Mei Mei's mother, and I enjoyed how Mei Mei internalized and drew from her advice during her performance. I'm usually not a big celebrity picture book reader, but you can really tell that Laufey put a lot of care into this one. And the melody written especially for the story is such a precious addition!
This was such a sweet little book by one of my favorite artists at the moment. Even though it’s a children’s book and definitely not aimed at my age group, I still genuinely loved it.
The message behind it is really beautiful and feels very aligned with her as a person, her brand, and the foundation she created. You can tell there’s a lot of heart behind it.
What I loved the most, though, were the illustrations. They’re absolutely adorable and so beautifully done. Every page felt warm and cozy, and by the end of the book I genuinely wanted to live inside a little carrot house too.
Listened to Laufey read this book to me and a group of fans. It was so nice and calming listening to her read it herself. As a violinist I feel so connected with Mei Mei the Bunny.
I truly wished I had this book with me as a child, I would’ve definitely enjoyed it.
I have a concert this week and will be playing a violin solo, please wish me luck! Thanks Mei Mei for making me feel seen
