Dale Arenson's third instalment of the Better Lucky Than Good flying serises.
What would you do if you lost your job and had nothing in the bank? Would you risk your freedom for fast money, or trust your luck and wait for a break?
After being laid off as a Learjet captain, Dale Arenson—former outlaw biker turned pilot—faced that very choice. Tempted by high-paying but dangerous work, he instead gambled on a job application with American Airlines.
When the call finally comes, Dale steps into a world that will test everything he knows, from the cockpit to the core of who he is.
In this gripping third installment of From Outlaw Biker to Airline Pilot and Beyond, Dale takes readers inside the life of a commercial airline navigating the skies, the aftermath of 9/11, a cancer diagnosis, and the relentless pace of the aviation world.
Raw, insightful, and often surprising, On Wings of Luck pulls back the curtain on pilot life and flying myths, leaving you entertained, inspired, and maybe a little more comfortable on your next flight.
I have read all of Dale Arenson's books and will continue to read everything he puts forth for his fans and followers. Being a biker as well as an aviation enthusiast, I find myself hanging on his every word. His storyline and way of sharing his thoughts and views draws the reader in and holds firmly as if you're unable to get away. I found this book to be every bit as captivating as each of his other books and only hope he continues to find more stories to share. Whether they be about his days in the MC or on a flight deck, I will eagerly await what comes next and look forward to seeing what he has in store. Keep 'em coming, Mr. Arenson, and I'll keep buying them!
I really enjoyed reading his experience in check rides and simulator flights with great detail. I have been a student pilot and can imagine myself in his roles. I could never do it! I appreciate knowing what I missed and feel glad to fly radio-controlled planes now.
I think I’ve read all of Dale’s books and loved them all. I am just a private pilot (bug smasher) in a Piper Archer but always fun to read what might have been in case I chose flying as a career.
As someone who’s spent a lifetime in aviation, I found Dale’s book On Wings of Luck, the third in the series, especially compelling. The former outlaw biker turned airline pilot gives a raw and realistic look at what the job of an airline pilot is really like — the long days, the endless training and check rides, the mental strain, and the physical wear that come with life in the cockpit. The writing is authentic, capturing both the exhilaration of flight and the hard work behind it all. The author doesn’t shy away from showing the romantic side as well as the underside of the airline business, yet the story remains engaging, easy to read, and quite revealing. It’s another strong entry in a great series — and the perfect setup for his next book chronicling the adventures of ferrying aircraft across the globe. Knowing Dale, this should be good!
