“Why do you always treat me so kindly?”

“Because you deserve everything good in life, Shika.”

***

All her life, Shika had faced more struggles than most. Living with hypermobility syndrome meant constant pain and relying on her parents more than she wished. Even through the pain, her dreams never faded—dreams of writing, of freedom, of a future abroad.

When Shika finally told her parents of those dreams, they strongly opposed her.

Determined to prove her strength, she decided to pour her soul into self-publishing her sixth book—and along the way, she met Ezry Dylan, a dashing freelance web designer who always seemed to understand her. Over iced lattes and fluttering hearts, their friendship blossomed into something more.

“I never thought I’d be lucky enough to meet someone like you.”

“And I’ll be with you, always.”

Then came the moment she had been waiting for: Shika received her offer letter to study abroad, just as Dylan was facing the hardest chapter of his life. Her heart broke.

How could she leave, knowing it would hurt him? If pursuing her dream meant letting go of the happiness she had found, was it worth the pain?

“You know what? I’m sorry too. I’m sorry I had this… fantasy that you and I were something special.”

“Why do you always treat me so kindly?”

Kudos to penulis sebab berjaya angkat satu cerita yang berlatar belakangkan kisah seorang gadis dengan penyakit Hypermobility Syndrome. Penyakit yang jarang didengar, dan tak ramai yang tahu. Through out this book, I do understand the struggles yang Shika kena hadap for the rest of her life.

Dylan, on the other side, play his role quite meaningful. Watak yang ceria, suka mengusik walaupun pada awalnya agak sakit hati sikit dengan ayat dia (i know he did nothing wrong, but still).

This book, berjaya bawa the emotion. Sekejap blushing, sekejap sedih. I didnt expect the backstory of Dylan tu sendiri. He struggles alone, and he did open up when he started to acknowledge Shika on his life.

But, I do hope this story has more chapters to go. I need more angst, more sadness after their decision, the relationship banter and just so much more.

I do enjoy this book, and recommend this to those who loves light reading but full with emotion☺️

Satu cerita tapi seperti terbahagi 2. Satu buat Shika Khayla. Satu lagi buat Ezry Dylan. Stranger to lover. Mengenali Shika yg punya penyakit dan tekad untuk berdikari walau tahu dirinya perlukan kebergantungan. Ezry Dylan pula yg kurang bernasib baik dalam memiliki kasih sayang orang tua.

Tanpa sengaja, mereka yg asalnya ‘stranger’ jadi rapat atas tuntutan kerja. Hubungan menjadi akrab dan Dylan lah rasanya paling terbuka. Shika dah jadi ‘comfort zone’ buat Dylan bila dia dapat luahkan segala yg terpendam. Shika pula masih banyak memendam dan pada masa yg sama ternantikan Dylan yg peduli tentangnya.

Cerita yg tak ada konflik berat. Mengajar kita erti peluang kedua. Bertahan hidup untuk diri sendiri. Walau tak semua pilihan perlu bahagia tapi hidup masih perlu diteruskan. Semoga kita terus pandang ke depan tanpa menoleh ke belakang. Happy reading!
