Look At Us: A Love Story

Rate this book
Falling in love was effortless. Learning to keep it when everything starts to change—that’s the challenge.

Talia and Damian were swept up in a love that felt fated—wild, consuming, and real. But when one unexpected heartbeat turns their world upside down, the life they dreamed of arrives sooner than either of them was ready for.

As Talia steps into the future she’s always wished for, she encourages Damian to finally name the dream he’s buried for years. Yet as that dream begins to take shape, it pulls at the edges of what they’ve built together—revealing the fractures they both hoped had healed.

His quiet avoidance. His silence that mirrors the ghosts she thought she’d left behind—the ones that taught her love could turn painful.

When the pressure builds and a single mistake threatens to undo it all, Talia must decide whether trust can survive the cracks between who they were and who they’re becoming. Because love isn’t just something you fall into—it’s something you fight to keep.

Heartfelt, passionate, and achingly real, Look At Us is the story of what comes after “I love you”—where dreams and fears collide, honesty cuts deep, and forever isn’t found…it’s built.

A love story too big for one book—discover the full Look At Us series.

Spoiler warning because there’s really no way to talk about this book without mentioning the main storyline.

This book picks up with Talia moving to California to be with Damian as they settle into their new life together. Not long after, Talia finds out she’s pregnant, and from there the story focuses heavily on the pressures of starting a family while also carrying unresolved trauma from the past. Talia struggles with being far away from her family and friends, while Damian is dealing with his own fears about becoming a father because of his relationship with his own dad.

One thing I genuinely appreciate about this series is how relatable the relationship struggles can feel. Talia’s trust issues from her previous relationship don’t magically disappear just because she’s with someone new, and I liked that the book showed how past damage can still affect healthy relationships.

I also really liked Jenni in the first book, so I was disappointed with the direction things went here. Talia is ready for stability and family life while Jenni still wants to party and avoid settling down, and honestly it just made me sad seeing that friendship drift the way it did.

For most of the book, I was actually enjoying it. Unfortunately, the ending completely ruined it for me. The story started leaning heavily into social and political commentary in a way that felt forced rather than natural to the characters or plot. By the final chapters, it felt less like the story was unfolding organically and more like the author was trying to make a larger statement.

The ending especially didn’t work for me. It leaves off on a dramatic cliffhanger involving Damian being pulled over by police, and the entire scene is written in a way that’s clearly meant to evoke fear and uncertainty tied to race and policing. While I understand that these are real conversations people have, the execution here felt more agenda-driven than story-driven to me, and it pulled me completely out of the book.

It’s disappointing because there were parts of this story I truly connected with, particularly the relationship dynamics and emotional struggles surrounding pregnancy and family. But the ending overshadowed everything else for me.

This book does a very good job at representing personal growth and the rollercoaster ride it is to navigate life.

Old habits die hard and both Talia and Damian worked to leave their old habits and flaws in their past.
But life tests you and some people have hidden agendas.

Damian made a pretty huge red flag pretty deep into the relationship and it was a betrayal I’d have a hard time looking past…
But regardless they moved on and he did start to open up with his career choices and struggles.

Talia is a very patient woman who loves with her heart on her sleeve! She reminds me of a few women I know in life who deserve nothing less than unconditional love.

I love this book and series. This book explores relationship ups and downs with PLENTY of emotions. There were times my eyes filled up with tears, when my cheeks hurt from smiling, and when I would get so frustrated I’d sigh out loud. Real life issues are explored, things you wouldn’t normally read about. I was able to connect with the characters in a deeper level than I was expecting. Warning - you’re left on a cliffhanger and one that I NEED to have an answer for…

I need book 3 now!!!

I just finished this and I’m even more invested than after the first.
Everything felt so real again. So many of the individual moments reminded me of some of my own experiences, which made it hit even harder.
I really thought things were concluding on this beautiful story… and then that epilogue happened.
Now I need book three, but I have to impatiently wait till fall. 😩

So book 2 picks up right where book 1 ends. We have completely gotten rid of Edgar. Although he does rear his ugly head a few times. The majority of the book I was like awww this is great.... although I am still on the fence about Damian...This man makes questionable decisions sometimes...and I have to say, just based off the last 2 books, in true Tania fashion, she has left me with a jaw dropping cliff hanger...ma'am we need to talk about this LOL

Such a cute romance! This book gave a little bit more spice! I love that they could both admit their insecurities and faults within their relationship. The cliff hanger, makes me anticipate book 3 soon!
