Liked it quite enough. Nothing special.

Every book in this series is an age gap and it bothered me so much that the young men at least had some some sort of emotional maturity, while the young were money were always a sobbing mess

⭐️ 3.25 stars rounded down ⭐️

Derek is around 38 or 39 years old, is a delivery man, and has recently moved into a townhouse, but since he's broken up with his longtime girlfriend, he needs a new roommate to be able to keep affording to live there.

In comes Riko, a slightly spoiled, privileged 19 year old who has dropped out of college because he basically permanently hurt his leg, which gets worked up or re-injured every time he overworks, such as in soccer, the sport he loved but can't play anymore. His parents offered him an ultimatum as well, and he chose to leave and live on his own.

He still has money from them, though, and so can pay to live on his own easily, and so he answers Derek's ad for a roommate.

For a novella, this does a pretty good job of establishing a connection between Derek and Riko, and building up to something more with them. It does take until about halfway through for sex to happen - which is good in the sense that it didn't just dive right into it but also after they start having sex, things kind of go full speed ahead *after* that.

Seeing the other books in this (that are MF or MMF) are all almost 200 pages and yet this one is only 127 makes me a bit like...huh, why? I think this could have benefited from being that extra 60-70 pages.

Not for the first half, which was done well, but for the second half that rushed things a bit and it started to feel like those novellas that rush things - the only thing really saving that aspect of the second half was their well established connection from the first half.

But it only takes a few weeks, maybe a month before they're already declaring a promise of one day getting married and 'I love you's being exchanged and everything. I think more time could have been dedicating to them dating/having sex before they got to that stage.

Also, my reason for giving this such a low rating was...well, where the "forbidden/taboo" element to this? Like yeah there was the 20 or almost 20 year age gap, with Riko only being 19, but then these two barely cared about that aspect, nor anyone around them. So...what's taboo about this? There's the age gap and that's it, and yet no one cares? Not even Riko's parents???

And we get told that when he was a minor Riko was with *much* older men - more like they were predators like wtf? - and it destroyed one's career and marriage and the other went to jail (as he should because Riko was 15 and it was his *teacher*) and I'm sure his parents were furious about that...but not about Derek?!

Like it's legal this time and all but that's still a wild age gap? People in real life can barely handle more than a few years age gap and people would lose their minds over a 38/9 year old with a 19 year old, like?? Use that extra 60-70 pages like what was given to the MF romances to have people freak out over their age gap, idk.

Like wow, this book part of the "Taboo Streets" series had zero taboo...I bet the MF ones actually leaned into the taboo and the craziness of it.

It just felt a bit shortchanged in that aspect of it. Also the "drama" with the climax was a bit silly in my opinion. Like Derek thought he was straight all his life, then figures out he's not so straight, he and Riko having a thing going for about a month or so, and then Derek

BUT - I didn't give this even lower because for what we were given, I enjoyed Derek and Riko together, I liked how well it built a connection between them in such a short amount of time, and their chemistry was really good. Their sex scenes were hot.

If this is been given a full novel length, I think it could have been REALLY good, and been a 4 star or above read. As it is, because it was so short it was rushed in the second half and so the climax was OTT and contrived and didn't make much sense, and none of the taboo elements were given their due.

I really like this author, but she dropped the ball with this one overall. It was solid enough, but it was lacking in a few other areas.

I am giving it a .25 boost for it's easy readability and being able to zoom through it in just a few hours.

But otherwise, this was overall a 3 star read. These two deserved better attention given to them.

I will be on the lookout for this authors next MM full length novel though, I can't wait!

Until then.

Title: Loud Hot Roomie
Author: K. Webster
Genre: MM Contemporary Romance
Type: Standalone novella from Taboo Streets collection
POV: First Person - Dual
Rating:
4.25 Stars

Changes in his life brought Derek Blake back to Moonlit Gables. Making rent was a struggle until his new, much younger roommate moved in. But Riko Valentine was a terrible flirt who stirred feelings Derek never knew he had.

Derek had been living a meaningless life, but new desires forced him to rethink his existence. He embraced the changes, even if he held back in some ways. At times, I felt Riko was too much, but it worked for his character. I liked seeing how he pursued his passions.

The story was fast-paced, and the chemistry between the characters was palpable. It was always nice to see the other residents, and I'm looking forward to reading more stories in the Taboo Streets collection.

Loud Hot Roomie is a story of acceptance and unexpected love. It would appeal to readers who enjoy a sexy, MM age-gap novella.

Derek Blake is starting anew after a breakup and his finances require that he find a roommate. Riko Valentine is young, overt with his sexuality and the opposite of his new roomie, and this makes Derek take notice.

“Would he like it if I called him a good boy while he chokes on it? Fuck.”

Narrated in dual POV, Derek and Riko immediately clash and this leads to Derek taking on a dominant role. With Riko enjoying being a brat at times, their chemistry is palpable, especially with Derek’s pull toward Riko.

In this age-gap novella, the pace is quick and the hotness is ever present. I liked how Derek experienced his attraction to Riko, though a little more development would have further solidified Derek’s preference for a man. Riko was entertaining and sweet and he brought out a hidden side of Derek.

High Heat

These two were great.

This has been such a swoony steamy taboo series.

Each book has been fantastic

I adored seeing Derek grow and change.

We first saw him in Casey's book.
He now needs a roommate and finds Riko to move in.

Shoot the tension between these two was great.

Derek is unsure what to do with his new attraction to Riko. Things are awkward at first they sort of clash.

They quickly workout out and boy do they work it out lol

They were hot. Sheesh this was a great quick read.

Loved seeing Derek go for it and explore. They were so sweet.

“When it comes to you, I’ve never been surer about anything.”

We do have some miscommunication between these two but they do work it out.

“I get to love Riko Valentine forever and that’s just fucking amazing. He’s loud. He’s hot. He’s mine.”

What a fun High Heat series.

Can't wait for the next book.

This was such a fun, heartfelt read! Derek, a grumpy delivery driver barely holding things together, takes in Riko, a loud, messy younger guy who completely turns his world upside down. What starts as reluctant roommates quickly turns into something deeper and definitely hotter. I loved watching Derek’s emotional and romantic awakening; it felt genuine and tender beneath all the chaos. Riko’s energy and warmth perfectly balance Derek’s seriousness, and their chemistry is off the charts. Even though it’s a short story, it still delivers depth, humor, and a satisfying HEA. K. Webster once again nails the mix of spice, emotion, and character growth. A quick, steamy, and surprisingly touching story.

love love love

I’m entering the world of K Webster and I’m loving it. Derek and Riko are amazing, the way Derek is just completely obsessed with this man he just met and also kinda annoyed him at the beginning is kinda funny. Their relationship is just adorable and I can’t wait to read more about the other characters!

Loved it

These two main characters (Derek and Riko) were so good. We met them both separately in one of the other books and I'm so glad they got their own story. The heat, flirtation and sexy scenes were chef's kiss. Definitely love this series and recommend it.

I feel like we've sort of come full circle since Loud Hot Roomie is the story about Derek, Casey's ex from The Neighbor's Son. First of all I want to state that I really enjoyed getting his perspective about that relationship before he entered one with Riko, who is a spitfire by the way, but back to Derek for a moment...Derek had never felt like any relationship in his life was "the one" and it had nothing to do with the person he was with. Deep down Derek always felt a little broken, so it isn't until Riko comes into his life; loud, messy, and making all kinds of innuendos, that Derek feels alive. Literally for the first time and he's almost forty. If that isn't a bit heartbreaking, but also wonderful at the same time, that was the power of this book, at least for me.

As for Riko, he's a massive ball of energy and sunshine. The kind of person that makes you smile, whether for his inappropriate jokes, or because he's made something delicious and wants to make sure you eat. He is exactly what Derek needed in his life, not just because Derek needs rent money, but Riko is his perfect counterbalance. Derek sees Riko for the potential he brings to those around him, which is also new to Riko since he hasn't had that in his life either. This book captured my heart for lots of reasons, but I really loved how Riko was there with Derek to witness his bi-awakening moments and I loved that they both found their people.

Loud Hot Roomie, has its emotional moments, and both Riko and Derek both have those "what happens outside of our bubble" moments, but for the most part it's a pretty feel good book overall. As for the series, I truly love how this small community has come together, even as unconventional as it might be.

Just odd. Derek (almost 40) who was in a relationship with Casey (she married the landlord’s much younger son) has moved back to the townhouse complex, but despite being a UPS driver can’t make rent on his own.
Derek has also been miserable and when he looks back on all his relationships he notices that he was never fully in.
Derek needs a roommate, so rich boy Riko answers the ad. He’s 19 and a spoiled college dropout out. He dropped out of school because he could no longer play soccer because of an injury.
Riko is flamboyant, loud, and messy. Derek is a grouchy old man.
Derek can’t believe his body is reacting to Riko’s in a sexual way. He likes Riko more than any other woman he has been in a relationship with.
Derek starts to “investigate” online and it turns him on. He realizes it’s not just to just any man, but to Riko specifically.
They fall in love and have plans to marry.

Cringe parts
-Derek calls Riko hubby (after like 2 weeks of knowing him)
-Derek who has never had a male relationship is so good at sex right from the start (he does ask Riko for advice)
-Derek hides Riko from everyone in his life.
-Casey got all the details because she is Riko’s PT (not knowing the man he is gushing about is her ex-fiancé)

Unbelievable
-Derek just walks into people’s houses on the rich side of town and demands Riko’s parents help him find Riko.
-Riko’s Dad who wants him to marry a woman is all of a sudden OK with a not well off man twice his son’s age being with him, mmmkay.
-Riko’s being with Derek fixes all his family problems.

I loved Derek and Riko together. From the moment Riko was introduced, I remembered him as Casey’s PT patient. I think it helped that I felt like I had an idea of who Derek was already in my head, and I sort of had an opinion/caricature of Riko based on his interactions with Casey as well. It’s interesting to see Derek a little adrift. He wants out of his parents’ house and to be back on his own. He wants a relationship, but he can’t figure out what was always missing with Casey and everyone else. Riko’s soccer days are over, and he’s decided he’s done with school. His parents have strong opinions about it, but he wants to figure out what’s next for himself. The two men becoming roommates unlocks a side of Derek he never imagined. He feels alive with the chaos of Riko challenging his peaceful existence. These two continue to bring out the best in each other with Derek supporting Riko’s aspirations and hopes for the future. There were some low angst challenges, but even the forbidden element of having Casey in common and their age gap felt easily overcome. At heart, they’re both caretakers, and they’ve finally found their HEA and a great community.

I’m normally a M/F reader so when K Webster announced this book was M/M I wasn’t sure I was going to read it. I skipped out on the ARC but decided to read it today. Now I’m pissed I skipped out on the ARC 🙄 The book starts out with Derek needing a roommate and Riko needing a place to live. Derek is so serious and Riko is a rich kid who’s been spoiled his whole life and in the beginning I didn’t see a relationship working between them. All of a sudden something shifts and I couldn’t help but root for them. Riko is exactly what Derek needed in a partner. I love how Derek learned from his past relationship on what he should do differently and applied that to his relationship with Riko. Ahhhhh they are so cute! I really enjoyed this one!

Riko is mayhem and temptation all wrapped in one body. Full of spirit. And he is here to mess with Derek's careful barely there control. But in the best way. This short story felt like witnessing an awakening. It revealed all the potential they both have. Especially Derek. I was also surprised by all the more I discovered from some of the characters around them. Those that I disliked before, now make me reconsider. But what didn't surprise me was how sexy and hot it got for Derek and Riko. K Webster doesn't disappoint.

This is a very good opposites attract story with an MM romance. Riko is the total opposite of Derek. Riko is free spirited, happy go lucky and comes from a rich family and Derek is twice his age, a low key kind of guy and just coming out of a breakup with a woman. When Derek finds himself in need of a roommate, Riko is that guy. This is a great story that you can read in one sitting and the flirting and the banter between the two is really great. It was cool seeing Derek's "bi awakening." This story has a great happily ever after. I definitely recommend this whole series.

We meet Derek in previous books from Moonlit Gables aka Taboo Street and from what we know, he's a grump! Hardworking yet currently low on cash which is why he ends up with a roommate and has no luck in relationships (you can get his ex's story in The Neighbours Son)

In come his roomie Riko, almost 20 years younger, loud, impulsive and up for a laugh - the opposite of all things Derek and yet they click.
Riko knows he's gay, Derek had no clue!

It's a good quick read and if your looking for short (1-2hour reads) with a hint of taboo then I recommend this whole series

When hard working delivery driver Derek needs extra money to stay in his place her reluctantly gets a roommate. Riko Valentine wanted to get away from his parents and that’s how he finds the ad for a roomie. Now living under the same roof can these opposites get through a day together without a fight or will their tension turn into something more! Another great addition to this taboo series and this one is MM. Told in first person and dual POV

This story was pretty well developed for it being so short. It didn’t feel rushed or leave gaps. Of course they were in love pretty quickly. But, both men felt it was different than their pasts immediately. It didn’t read like an erotica: intimacy built up, there was only a couple full scenes.

This was so cute! 😍 I love a good MM romance because it doesn’t hinge on a woman doing all the emotional heavy lifting.

This was so good! Both men learning how to be tender and emotionally intimate together.

What’s better than one man learning emotional intimacy? Two! Double the pleasure, double the fun.

Short, spicy, sweet, easy read. Romance done right. Pure pleasure to read. Would read again.

I'm not sure if there will be more books in this series, but it is full of really solid reads! This one was a great bi-awakening story. It was nice to get to know Derek better and see he truly wasn't a jerk but perhaps just confused in the regards to relationships and hadn't found his person yet. Riko is definitely his perfect match! Their dynamic is pretty hot!
