Law school was the plan—until Hayley Carter walked away from both her degree and the controlling relationship that nearly broke her. Cut off, broke, and desperate for a fresh start, she takes the only lifeline she her best friend’s offer to stay at her dad’s farm.
She expected quiet. Space. A chance to breathe. She didn’t expect Colt Brooks—rugged, brooding, twice her age… and completely off-limits.
He’s her best friend’s father. She’s the last girl he should want. But under golden skies and falling leaves, tension turns to temptation—and resisting becomes impossible.
Set on a sun-warmed farm in a small town Harvest Me is a steamy, forbidden age-gap romance about the lines we cross and the hearts we can’t control.
C.M. Wood is a dark romance and psychological thriller author based near Grande Prairie, Alberta, Canada.
She’s known for writing complex, twist-filled plots and deeply layered characters who blur the line between love and danger. Her stories explore obsession, trauma, redemption, and the darker side of human desire — all wrapped in emotional tension that lingers long after the last page.
She lives for the cliffhanger that makes you throw the book (and then one-click the next), and isn’t afraid to take her readers through the shadows to get to the heart of a story.
When she’s not plotting emotional destruction or crafting her next villain you’ll secretly love, she’s drinking too much coffee, travelling, or spending time with her family and friends making memories in northern Alberta.
A special thanks for the readers who rate and review. Much love. I appreciate you.
Hayley goes to stay with her best friends dad at his farm after breaking up with her controlling boyfriend.
But Colt isn’t expecting to be attracted to his daughter’s best friend.
They both struggle with knowing they shouldn’t, but ultimately they can’t control their feelings for each other. Even after their first spicy encounter, Colt struggles with the guilt & reality of his feelings towards Hayley.
When his daughter arrives at the farm early & nearly catches them together, will this be the thing that finally pulls them apart? Or are they strong enough to stay together & admit their true feelings for each other?
This small town, age gap, best friends dad romance with forced proximity has the tropes we all know & love.
This novella swept me away from the very first page. Set against the quiet backdrop of a small-town farm, it captures the ache of wanting something you shouldn’t and the heartbreak that follows when love and loyalty collide.
The story follows a young woman who falls for the one man she was never supposed to—her best friend’s father. What starts as a slow-burn connection turns into an emotional storm filled with guilt, longing, and stolen moments under the country stars. When the truth comes out, her best friend’s betrayal cuts deep.
A year apart from the love only amplifies the depth of their feelings. When she returns home, older and a little wiser, the reunion between her and the man she once left behind feels inevitable. The tension, the quiet heartbreak, and the tenderness of their rekindled bond are written so vividly you can almost taste the summer air and hear the solitute of the farm around them.
This isn’t just a forbidden romance—it’s a story about consequence, forgiving oneself, and the way love can bloom even in the most unforgiving soil. Fans of small-town angst and taboo second-chance romance will devour it in one sitting.
Thank you, C.M. Wood for giving me the opportunity to meet Hayley and Colt before introducing them to the world. It's been a pleasure!
This is a spicy forbidden age gap novella. Hayley returns to her hometown to get her mind straight, what she didn’t expect was her best friend’s dad, Colt. I love that this isn’t a ling read, it just keeps you invested to read all the way through. Hayley’s like any other girl that has a crush on the older hunk, and being older now is pursuing what she wants. Colt is a hunky farmer that in my eyes, gives John Winchester/ Jeffrey Dean Morgan 🤤🤤 vibes. Their 🌶️ is a buildup until finally that dam breaks, the hiding in the dark corner scene?? Imaginary overload🫣
I enjoyed reading this book! If you want a shorter read for in between books with forbidden age-gap trope, then this is a sweet🌶️ delight. 4/5⭐️
Hayley Carter's life was a hot mess - until she ditched law school and her controlling ex. Now, she's crashing at her best friend's farm, trying to get her life together. But things get complicated when she falls for Colt Brooks - her best friend's dad, and the one guy she can't have. He's sexy as hell and he's totally off-limits. But as they spend more time together, Hayley starts to realize that sometimes, the things we want most are the things we're not supposed to have.
Great spicy read that kept me blushing during an airplane ride!
You felt the tension from the start as Colt and Hayley are living in close proximity. It built up beautiful and the spice was chef's kiss.
I would've loved to experience a little more of their yearning for each other when she went back to school, but it's a novella and you gotta cut somewhere (honestly, I have a hard time rating novellas 5 star because I always want more story!)
If you need a short read with some spicy spice, grab this, you won't be disappointed.
I don't always go for this big an age gap, Hayley is Colt's daughters best friend, but this was a good book! It was hot! There was enough story to keep me interested too, and not a long drawn out drama fest.
This just wasn’t for me. I’m not opposed to the age gap trope, but the writing was just too stilted for me to lose myself in the story. Hayley falls for her best friend’s father, Colt, when she takes a break from law school at his farm.
The premise: having a crush on your best friend's dad! Wood did a great job of keeping the age gap from getting into that creepy level. Everyone's inner dialog kept us full on consensual and of age. Quick and spicy, give it a read!
Perfect for a short/quick read with spice, an age gap and a forbidden romance. I love that Hayley found herself and what she really wanted in life without letting anyone else’s wants influence her!!
Fantastic, there is the constant tango battle of trying to do what is considered right and what is wanted. Lots of suppressed fire works waiting to explode. Very much recommended.
