19-year-old Tabitha Barden is a nightly meal for a piggish vampire - her brother, RJ. As Rob's nightingale, a near-immortal being meant to sustain him, Tabbie's purpose is clear, painful, and often horribly violating. Living alongside Alexandru, the dhampir who murdered their human father - and his own nightingale, the annoyingly chipper, Viola - she and Rob make up two parts of a twisted makeshift family. Pushed to her breaking point, Tabitha runs, finding friendship, acceptance, and real love in the unlikely forms of an amicable ex and a former high school rival. But, as unforeseen consequences threaten her new life, Tabitha realizes that severing family ties may have come at a deadly cost.
4.5 stars I genuinely didn't know if I would like this one when I started reading it. It was a very interesting take on the whole 'vampire' thing. Nightingale's are their blood source. It's a wild ride from start to finish and if you're into the dark side of storytelling. This one is for you.
I adored this! Sapphic vampires and trauma for everyone! The side characters are also absolutely fantastic (even if you kind of hate them a little bit!) I really hope to see more from this author!
