Rhett has struck a blow at the heart of the Queendom of Georgia. He destroyed their royal palace, killed an up-and-coming general, saved a princess, and bruised a lot more than the Queen’s ego. But despite the success of his raid, he still has one important task left to complete down south . . . he has to get out of there alive. There is only one option.
To the West, beyond the Mississippi, is the territory of the Natives. The mysterious people who have stymied both Penn and Georgia for over two centuries. But even if Rhett does escape the Queendom's clutches, is he jumping out of the frying pan and into the fire?
In the East, Penn continues to lose territory to the Georgian advance. But with Spring coming, Rhett’s uncle and a division equipped with the Gunsmith Guild’s latest inventions is set to counterattack and take back what the Kingdom has lost. But at what cost?
With the New World consumed by war, what price is everyone willing to pay for victory? Together, Rhett, his family, and his allies in Georgia are trying to ensure that the price isn’t too high. Because if it is, no one wins.
I have all my fingers and toes cross that the author can pull off the landing. The note at the ending of the book appears to indicate and no uncertain terms that there will be one last book in the series. As I have literally just finished this book I am not sure how he's going to pull it off. I kind of expected more stories to take place in the old world. Perhaps some more stories to take place in the West. I don't know that that was ever a part of the game plan and I definitely don't think we're going anywhere near any of that stuff. Maybe the gentleman will do something similar to his courts of cabal series with something of a spin-off. That would be cool. At the end of the last book our main character was running after a devastating raid on the enemy. In this book we have him fighting his way back home. A couple of surprises. And then we get more fighting towards the conclusion of this war that mimics the Civil War. I'm a little sad to have seen the Spy character take a back seat. Mentioned but not actually in this book. There was really no way to work her in from what I saw. I am eager for this book to receive the out of your treatment and I'm excited about the final book of the series to be released. In this moment I would describe myself as being cautiously optimistic.
This was another really strong book in this series. Lots of machinations, lots of intrigue, and lots of large scale battles the MC and his loved ones are caught up in.
No new harem members are added, though the MC is probably one step closer to the one we've all met before, and another possible one introduced in this book. The next book is supposed to be the last of this series, so it should be very interesting indeed.
Another outstanding book in this series!!!! My only complaint was how long it was between books but this book was worth the wait!!! Plenty of twists and turns with perfection of magic introduced earlier in the series.
G.S. D'Moore's adventures through all of his stories have become as cherished to me as famed authors like Stephen King, James Patterson , or Lee Child i never miss the next installment and neither should anyone looking for a good story
