Un bel thriller! La compianta Mary Higgins Clark e Alafaur Burke sono delle ottime scrittrici di thriller e insieme firmano sempre bei libri. Ottimo per staccare dallo stress quotidiano. Ti tiene incollato dall’inizio alla fine. Per chi non lo sapesse, è l’ennesimo di una serie di libri con protagonista Laurie Moran, la produttrice del programma di investigazione “Under suspicion”. La storia può essere letta anche senza aver letto gli altri libri, ma il filone privato di Laurie è bello lungo e se si vuole seguire, porterebbe a spoiler e rovinerebbe il piacere di leggere i precedenti che sono tutti belli.

I think this will be the last time I read a book written by two authors co-writing. By now, I have enough examples (King, Child) to safely say it’s never a good idea. The main issue with this book lies precisely in its dual-authorship nature. The collaboration between Mary Higgins Clark and Alafair Burke results in flat, lazy writing that lacks any real identity. The style is too, honestly, far too, linear and standardized. It feels like an industrial, formulaic product engineered in a boardroom rather than a thriller with a soul.
The trope of identical twins accusing each other is as old as time. While the authors try to market it as a sophisticated psychological mirror game, they fail miserably, delivering a disarmingly straightforward plot. They take zero risks: there is no complexity, and the storyline is far too simple. If you are looking for a twisted mystery, steer clear of this book, because everything here flows without a single spike of suspense.
The characters hide behind the usual hypocritical facade of the wealthy American family, concealing the classic sordid mess of envy and resentment we have already seen a thousand times. Even the ending is entirely predictable: the killer's reveal, the one person sister Frankie would never suspect, is the most overused cliché in the history of mystery fiction. Two stars, only because the fluid writing makes it a quick read, allowing you to easily get this empty experience over with.

Bello, bello, bello!
Che dire, dopo undici libri non dovrei essere più sorpresa, ma io AMO la serie Under Suspicion. Spero vivamente che questo non sia l’ultimo volume, perché mi sono legata ancora di più a questi personaggi così completi e tridimensionali.

Questa volta ho avuto qualche giusto presentimento sulla possibile soluzione del caso (ma non ho comunque capito tutto) e come sempre mi sono ritrovata sorpresa alle ultime pagine.
Adrenalina, indagini e una trama intricata e interessante. Adoro i cold case di cui si occupa la protagonista, Laurie Moran, e credo che ogni volta siano più ben costruiti. (Anche se questo è stato meno movimentato degli altri).

Tutti i personaggi continuano ad avere un arco narrativo complesso e completo… soddisfattissima di questa lettura.
