Simonette Brand just wants to be left alone in her happy place of crime investigation and documentaries. She didn’t bother anyone, but that certainly doesn’t mean that she wasn’t bothered by those closest to her. When an occasion calls for a special arrangement, will it satisfy the need or leave her wanting more?
Daylen Verse was put on earth to play ball and live his life to the fullest. He wasn’t worried or looking for a relationship or love. When a favor places him in an entanglement, will it be an unintentional home run or will he strike out?

I needed this read after being disappointed in the last book I read (by another author). Mel keeps me laughing with her books lately with the foolishness of her characters and this one was no different.
Simonette was shy and a dork but I loved that about her. She was genuine and didn’t mess with anybody. Imagine having your biggest pops being your mom and sister, who would need enemies with them in your life. I could not for the life of me figure out why they hated this still so bad other than them hating themselves and wanting to tear her down because she was authentic and unbothered. I was glad that Simonette reached out to Daylen and found a genuine connection with him and his sister. She needed someone else to stand up for her like her father did and these two stepped behind her.
The wedding weekend was epic and so funny. Karma was served and Simonette walked away with a man and a best friend. I liked Simonette and Daylen together and seeing him help her get onto of her shell and encouraged her to stand up for herself.
There were some things that were predictable int he sorry, but seeing them actually happen made them that much funnier. I thoroughly enjoyed this story from beginning to end and didn’t mind the minimal errors or inconsistencies.
Alright now Mel! I loved Simonette, and how she owned her quirkiness. She wasn't worried about what other people were wearing, doing, or saying, she was going to do her! Tutoring and getting her degree was her goal. That is, it, that is all.
Daylen lives and breathes baseball. However, he needs that math grade to graduate. Simonette is brilliant, and cute, but weird and dresses funny. After he does her shady at a party, he tells her that if she ever needs anything to reach out to him.
Simonette's mother and sister are straight trash! 🤬 The way they treated her was uncalled for, and unprovoked! 😤 When Simonette is backed into a corner, she needs that favor from Daylen. Wasn't sure how they would pull this off, being so different and with Simonette being so green to almost everything. But Daylen's sister Rissa quickly befriends her and brings her out of her shell, while showing her that she is beautiful inside and out. The feelings brought forth in Daylen for Simonette are shocking to him. He never thought he would want an exclusive relationship, especially with someone like Simonette. However, this woman is different from the girl he knew in college, and he is really feeling her. They were adorable together, and the way he handled her family for berating her was top tier! Loved it! 👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Melvin's Daughter, if you don't sit down and write these books Boo. You are a truly gifted story teller. I f*cks with you Ma.
This book was so good. The funny moments are always on point. The relationship between Sim and her dad was everything. I'm so happy that she came into her own, and finally started putting folks in their places.
Daylen, Rashad, and Rissa loved her unconditionally as well as her dad. I'm happy that she called in the favor because love always wins.
This was a quick stress free read after over indulging on heavier darker books. The drama was entertaining and what I’ve come to expect from this author.
Daylen was the popular athlete in college, while Simonette was the geek that helped Daylen out to pass his classes to graduate and become the Pro Baseball player. Meanwhile for Simonette she made a name for herself in forensics but she still was a geek. That was until her mother and little sister came for her when it pertained to her little sisters wedding. NOW what started out as something made up for Daylen and Simonette bloomed into realness. While Rissa was Daylen’s little sister, she was the sister Simonette longed for and Rissa didn’t play. Mr. Brand, Simonette’s Father loved his entire family BUT he was tired of his wife and younger daughter treatment towards Simonette and definitely tried to have them change their ways…Loved every bit of the book and if Simonette was a real character I would praise her for her strength and being the one to find forever love!
What started out as a fake relationship between Daylen and Simonette as a favor to her ends up being an unplanned romance. The way Daylen and his sister, Rissa, stood ten toes down for Sim was just the thing she needed. Daylen taught Sim how to stand up for herself as well as about love and passion. I couldn't stand Sim's mother and sister for the way they treated Sim. Those heffas ended up getting what they deserved in the end though, and I was happy about that. Rissa turned out to be the bestie that Sim was in need of. There were so many laugh out loud moments in the book that I thoroughly enjoyed. I'm hoping the author will provide us with a book with Rashad in the future. I would love to read about the woman who finally tames him. 😂😂 Mel Dau has brought us another great book that I enjoyed from the very first page!!
I think you might like this book – "F*ckin' With Me" by Mel Dau. I know I did!
Favorite line ine the book 📖 was Daylen: "My be was hooved"!!
It started with a fake relationship so Simonette could bring a date to her sister's wedding. Turned into her riding in a private jet, getting first kiss, making a best friend, finding her voice and finally being seen by her college crush.
Now, the demise of her sisters wedding didn't really make sense to me because who goes that far. The Fiance was a jerk.
We should all be so lucky to land after friends and family like Rissa She I wouldn't know what to do with myself. Her mouth! Her heart was in the right place, though.
Now, Rashad is one of those standout characters. I'd love to hear more from him.
Simonette proved to everyone that being a dork could get you the prize! Dalyn got the best of both worlds by doing a favor for Simonette. He found his forever and got his life together with his career. Rissa became the perfect best friend and sister to Simonette. She deserved having that. Simone and Lanette deserved every bit of embarrassment that they received. They way that they treated Simonette was crazy. Dalyn made sure that Simonette always had the last laugh. Awesome read!
As always Mel Dau came with another banger!! I love the laughs I get from her books but also the gems she drops too!! This was definitely a great read! Definitely hit close to home. Blood family don’t always treat you right and it’s definitely ok to cut them off! Sim’s mother and sister pissed me off so bad!! But honey the way Daylen and Rissa got them together I loved it!! What started off as a favor turned into so much more and I loved how it all came together
Never Judge The Inside With The Look On The Outside
Mel Dau, what a great read. Thank you for always giving us lessons on how to treat people that are different from you. I love Day.and Sim. The love that grew between them was so good. Everyone needs a Rissa in their life. Always help someone lift themselves up not Tear down. It's sad but some family members will hurt you more than an outsider. To see justice and karma was done made my heart swell. 🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
When I tell you Mel Dau never misses. I mean that. This was so cute. Laugh out loud funny!!! Some of the scenes had me crying.
Simonette was an awkward black girl. But still beautiful. When he asked her old college friend to be her fake boyfriend for her sisters wedding it all gets juicy!!!
Baby I want to see this as a movie.
My sisters wedding. You heard it here first 😂😂😂😂😂😂
If there's one thing Ms. Mel Dau is going to do, it's give you foolishness and a terrible family. Simonette's mom and sister were so awful, I wanted her to go upside both of their heads. I was so happy when Daylen came back into her life. It was kismet, the way he and his sister protected and uplifted her. Simonette ended up leaving that island with her man and her confidence restored.
At first, Daylen’s attitude and mouth made him difficult to like—I genuinely considered DNF’ing the book. However, his first conversation about the plan with Simonette revealed a more vulnerable and thoughtful side of him. The way he stood ten toes down for her when people tried to disrespect her made me like him even more. Also, I liked how Simonette owned her eccentric ways.
Overall, this was such a cute story, and Daylen won me over.
At this point I shouldn’t be surprised by Ms. Dau’s pen game. This was flawlessly written and each of the MC characters had that something special to them. They compliment each other so well. I was sad to reach the end. I could have stood a fee more chapters. Can Daddy Robert get a story though?
Whew ! Not sure what I thought I was going to get with this one; but I got so much more.
Tropes highlighted; fake boyfriend, hateful family, weird/shy FMC, sports romance, fun supporting character's and of course some family drama.
Simonette just needed a fake boyfriend as a date for her sisters wedding weekend, she had no idea the guy she tutored in college was now a major league baseball player. Their connection and Daylen's actions were everything. Not your typical fake relationship read, but this was better. Wish I had more on them.
Never a dull moment with a Mel Dau read Lanette and her momma Simone was filled with so much audacity to verbally treat your sister/child that way just because they want conform to your way is simple minded but the way Daylen & his sister Rissa hyped her up was awesome now Poppa Brand was the truth he knew the deal with his wife and she got what she deserved
This was a really cute and sweet story. The evil mom and sister andwere just that evil for no reason towards Simonette. I am so glad Sim made that call to Daylen. It changed their lives forever and for the better. She gained so much more than just Daylen. Her sisterhood with his sister was everything!!! great story, definitely 5 star⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
This is a truly delightful story, and the characters were simply wonderful. Daylen and Simonette are a fantastic pair, and I particularly enjoyed the uniqueness of their relationship. The history they shared added such depth to their story, making it even more beautiful. It is always a pleasure to read your books. 🥰
Love Mel Dau and normally her books are 🔥! This one just felt dry. The characters had all the potential. The storyline was giving but the lead male character was not. Neither were the intimate love scenes between him and his leading lady. I hope Mel finds some needed inspiration to spice it up again!
While reading this, I definitely said "I could watch this on tv-" The characters and storyline were amazing! I laughed so much and was ready to fight "Mother" and Lanette for my girl Sim. Rissa and Daylen came through for her like no one ever has and that made me a little teary. This book got ALL the emotions from me. I enjoyed every page.
I have cried, laughed, and fought the air behind this book here. How could a mother be some unloving, uncaring, and unkind to her own child. Day was that nigga times 10. And that damn Rissa baby, a girl after my own heart. Rashad was the ever clowning best friend.
Loved this. Fake dating trope but took Daylan less than a week to know he was standing on business bout Simonette. Nerdy fmc/bad boy mmc. Fast paced. Lighthearted with some family drama. The wedding so so unnecessary but that was Lanette’s karma for being a b*tch. Loved the side characters Rissa and Rashad. Definitely recommend reading.
Mel Dau never disappoints with a good hilarious read. It was definitely not expected that the two characters would be together acting like a couple but I loved the twist and no drama. I love to read a good love story with the FMC has no masculine energy.
Mel i needed her to be a lil less green once she was out of college. But besides that i enjoyed this one and it was funny. With all the lil drama surrounding them they got even closer. Loved his sister and best friend.
Simonette needed to make that phone call. I swear the support she had with Daylen and his crew was epic. So many twist and turns but in a great way. Everyone was free from the toxic.
Boy meets girl Girl needs a fake boyfriend Boy has a great sense of humor with a funny sister and funny friends Girl’s mother and sister give off evil vibes Boy pulls out all the stops when he realizes she is the one
This was such a good read. I love how a fake relationship quickly became real. Day and his Sis got Sim together. It was so entertaining watching wicked mom daughter duo get put in their place!
I love how doing a favor turns into true love. He brought the confidence and bold woman out of her. Sometimes, you have to walk away from people who dont mean you any good. Even if it is your family, you have to learn to walk away. I love Mel books
Loved this!! Simonette was just what Daylen needed and he was just what she needed. I loved Daylen with his words of affirmation and he stood up for Simonette. I really enjoyed this book!!
