When two alpha dragons fall, everything burns—especially the rules keeping them apart.

Terrance I have a spotless record—years in private security and zero screwups—until I’m hired to protect him .

As a wildly popular actor and stuntman, Lothair is used to hiding his dragon-shifter skills in plain sight. But he’s also arrogant, treats danger as foreplay, and can’t keep it in his pants for more than five minutes. To him, I’m just a shiny new toy.

And no, I’m not attracted to my obnoxious client from hell. That would be inappropriate and unprofessional. Besides, we’re both alphas, so… no. Absolutely not.

Except Lothair has decided to test my limits in every possible way.

Lothair I don’t want a babysitter. Wherever I go, I am the most dangerous thing in the room. But as my career takes off, my unsuspecting human manager hires a bodyguard to shield me from random weirdos and overeager fans.

Lucky for me, Terry is another dragon, adorably straitlaced and just stuck-up enough for me to push his buttons. Turns out, making him unravel might be the best stunt I’ve ever pulled.

Breakneck is the fourth book in the Dragons of Ardaine series, about two dragon shifters fighting for control, until they both give in. Clashing egos, sheet-burning lust, wild nights of sharing, public stunts, and private battles. Standalone with a HEA.

Arc Review: Breakneck ( Dragons of Ardaine #4) by Roe Horvat

Something strange was happening.
I had no idea what it was. I just couldn’t stop touching him.

🔥Warning, danger, fire🔥 Goddamn, Jesus… this was wow. I haven’t read this level of heat in ages and holy fuck—no polite way to say it—this was scorching! 🥵 I kinda forgot this was a Roe Horvat omegaverse smut fest and, yeah… I read parts of it in public. Big mistake. Unless you’ve got a poker face made of steel, don’t, spoiler alert, I don’t have a poker face 😅

Beyond the expected omegaverse chaos, we get adorable romance, car chases, blackmail, dragons, found family, sweet bonding, and new friends. But don’t worry—the filth is very much the star of the show. Knotting, ridged cocks, slick, cum, milk, half-shifter sex, stamina for days, orgies, wild clubs—if your porny brain can dream it, Roe probably wrote it.

Lothair is a beautiful, unhinged sunshine with zero chill. A little lost before Terry, a little too eager to please 🥹—basically, he needed to be a good boy. And the way he slowly seduces Terry? ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥🥵 That threesome with Zach? INCENDIARY. 🧨❤️‍🔥 The moment that sealed their bond for good.

Terry, on the other hand, tested my patience. His internal denial dragged a bit—it felt like watching a closeted man struggling to accept an alpha/alpha bond. Even his granddad was chill about it (boooooo). Still, once he stopped “processing,” his protectiveness over Lothair was chef’s kiss.

They fuck. A lot. Like, A LOT. Sometimes it feels like that’s all they do—but Roe’s erotic writing always layers the sex with intimacy, power play, and connection. It’s filthy, yes, but also emotional and addictive.

Their relationship status should honestly read:
“No more alphas, but we fuck omegas together—and only together.” 😈

I actually loved the logic behind their need for omega lovers: because they’re both alphas, their dragons crave the act of breeding, and shared omega bonds satisfy that instinct. It gives us hot, primal threesomes and foursomes that somehow still feel romantic. Only Roe could pull that off.

If I had one wish? An epilogue. The ending leaves the door open for possible omega mates—or maybe even dragon babies—and I’d have killed for a glimpse of that future.

And I have to mention that bachelor-party orgy. Picture this: five omegas in decadent lingerie and two horny dragon alphas ready to wreck the place. Nuff said. 🍆🍆🍑🍑🍑🍑🍑🔥☄️🧯🚒❤️‍🔥👩‍🚒🧨🎆🎇💦💦💦💦💦🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️

I haven’t read the previous books in the series, and it didn’t matter—but now? Yeah, I might have to. Because dragon shifters this hot? 🫠🔥

Oh, yeah.
We fucked like monsters, claws tearing at fabric, wings flapping. My ass squelched with an abundance of lube and his precum. He roared when he came inside me. He flipped me around and sucked me into his throat. Holding him by his horns, I fucked his mouth, and he gulped my cum down, his tail swishing and spiraling in the air like a cat’s.
I looked up into the mirror above the bed, at the image of us together, with our horns, claws, wings, and tails, doing unspeakable things to each other like two demons from hell. We looked beautiful… Immortal.
I loved half-shifted sex. I was so much more sensitive in this form.

I received a copy of this book from Roe and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I LOVE the Dragons of Ardaine series and am sad to learn this one includes sharing, so, just noting to myself this one is not for me. I heartily recommend the rest of the series, as well as this one if sharing (no doubt in a good, healthy way, this author excels at positive erotic writing!) does not bother you! It sounds like it's a welcome part of the romance.

Just not something I'm into, sigh. Hope the next is back to 1-1.

Much appreciation to the author for the CW on sharing!

Roe Horvat is a master at writing smoking hot omegaverse with all that you'd expect to get from such a setting.

This latest entry in his Dragons of Ardaine series fills that element perfectly, there's sex and more sex and a teeny bit more sex just on the side.

However, he's also an expert in having a strong narrative that drives along all the sex and here's no exception. Although, and this is why it's 4* and not a 5* read for me, I think I expected more from the situation of bodyguard/protectee than I actually got.

Now, that's not to say I didn't thoroughly enjoy this book, I clearly did, but I would have liked maybe a bit more of the conflict of being attracted to the person who's life you're guarding, as well as maybe more on the controversial element of them both being dragon alphas.

Having said that though, I liked Terrance from his previous appearance as Leo's bodyguard and I was fascinated by Lothair, so the pairing totally worked for me from the start.

I also loved that, once they realised they were mates, there was no shilly shallying around, just total commitment to working things out and making sure they did all they could to communicate.

The secondary plot was a bit obvious, but it worked to cause some additional tension and I liked how it was resolved and I very much loved the way these dragons went all mushy for the other!

This authors recent work is just not as good as their earlier books. Their newer stories are generic, very sex heavy, forgettable.

4.5 stars. Lothair Courtemanche is an alpha dragon shifter, he’s an actor, a stuntman, and more thing. He has received a pile of threats and needs security.
Here is where Terrance Harbinger steps in, as a bodyguard. Terrance is also an alpha dragon shifter, a secret from humans.

Terrance knows who Lothair is and he doesn’t like him one bit. Indeed, he’s not happy with this job.

What happens when two alphas bond? Gosh, that was awesome.
Terrance is still the protective bodyguard, there’s a serious threat.

Dang, what a hot read, besides all the hotness it also has a great storyline, and of course flawlessly executed!

Erotica at its finest, no one does Omegaverse like Roe Horvat. I loved Lothaire and Terry, complete opposites in many ways but so perfect for each other. I love an alpha brat when it’s done when and Horvat created a sublime character in Lothaire, perfect energy. Terrence was the grounding solid presence and such an interesting Alpha, so protective. This book is singe your kindle hot but it has humour and care and connection and fantastic side characters. Highly recommend reading it, it can be read as a standalone but this is an awesome series so I recommend all of them.

I was keen to read this, intrigued by the idea of two Alpha males being mates. Lothair is described as wild sunshine, chaotic, and an arrogant actor, while Terrance is a straitlaced, protective bodyguard who initially dislikes his client. I did enjoy the emotional bond development amidst the chaos that is their lives.

The action scenes are welldone, which keeps the story engaging, beyond the copious amounts of sex. Roe is known for his books being extremely explicit and steamy, so I knew what to expect. However, sex featuring wild nights of sharing (consensual interactions), made it a massive 'no no' as far as I was concerned. Call me prudish, but I hate sharing in my romance. Still, it's well written, full of action, and a guaranteed, if hard won HEA. Must admit that I skimmed parts of the story, and its not one I'll read again.

I swear, I haven’t read a Roe book I haven’t loved. These two alphas sure know how to put on a show. I’m not usually a huge fan of group play unless it’s done well, and I was loving it here. Roe somehow manages to write scenes like this that still leave room for tenderness between the MCs.

There’s so much heat, protectiveness and love in these pages that I could start the book all over again and not be bored. As always, a fantastic read.

It's books like these that make me think we need to refactor the romance.io spice scale. After all, 4/5 is 2 explicit scenes, and 5/5 is "several." So this book has gotta be about a 10/5 on that scale. I've read erotica with fewer sex scenes.

I know I'm making it sound like a bad thing, but I did enjoy the intensity and variety here, and I chose it because I enjoy the occasional non-monogamous couple, so I was intrigued by the sharing. I just figured I'd let you all know what you're getting into.

As far as the story, it was lower angst, which works well for me, while still including quite a but of deep emotional development between the characters. I particularly enjoyed Lothair meeting Terry's family.

It makes me want to read the rest in this series. Roe never disappoints!

This is Book 4 in the Dragons of Ardaine series they are written as standalones so you don't need to read them in order. I would check the CWs of this as well it's not dark but there are some heavy topics.

🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶

Lothair is an up and coming star that has been been coping with the redundancy of life by plowing through every willing body that he has come across. He is just living that hedonistic lifestyle to the fullest. That is until his manager gets him a strict bodyguard because he is now receiving threats against his safety. Terrance knows about Lothair's reputation and is less then excited to be taking on his detail as a live in guard. Lothair though is MORE than excited to push every button Terrance has in order to find out what will make his stony exterior crack. These two start a battle of wills which Terrance swiftly looses when Lothair starts taking him to his special parties that include many many naked people 😉😏 but the more Lothair and Terrance are together the more the bond between the two of them forms until something snaps in place that neither of them was expecting.
Now on top of trying to stay safe Lothair and Terrance have to navigate this new connection they have and what it holds for their future together if there is one.
Whew this one was hoooottt 🔥🔥🔥 from beginning to end so prepare your self, but after that lol these two were just like 2 little puzzle pieces coming together. Terrance needed to let loose a bit and Lothair DEFINITELY helped him do that but Lothair needed the stability that Terrance brought so it was perfect. The little mystery with the plot and the bad guy had me glued right up until the end and I loved seeing all the side characters from the other stories! Just a great add to the dragon series with these two 😍

Dragon Shifter Omegaverse
Movie star/ bodyguard
Alpha/Alpha
Grumpy/Naughty sunshine
Omega sharing
Shifted shenanigans

The Dragons of Ardaine are my favourite characters and series of Roe's books because you get world building lore, heat and shifters and inhuman characteristics (both personality-wise and physically) PLUS the finest of omegaverse writing all in one delicious package. Breakneck is a bit different to the other books in the series as Lothair and Terrance are an Alpha/Alpha pairing, whereas the other three are all Alpha/Omega, so without a sudden heat and compulsive bonding period which forms the focal point for books 1-3, this one has a lot more out-of-the-bedroom plot in it, as our alphas get to know each other, then fall in lust, then love and beyond. That's not to say it's lower in heat. In fact there's so much sometimes it ends with fade-to-black, not something you usually get in this author's books! Our horny alpha dragons are at it like rabbits; with omegas, with each other, constantly. Yes there's sharing - lots of it - and not just one night stands either, but that's Terrance and Lothair's love language: sex with omegas, never other alphas, always together. The story and MCs totally stand alone, but having read books 1-3 many times I adored the amount of minor (and not-so-minor) crossover references and cameos there were from previous books.

The next book in Roe Horvat's Dragons of Ardaine series is here!! And wow, Breakneck is my new favorite of the bunch! I love them all, but this book just has such an extra something to it with all the headbutting and shaninnigans these 2 alphas fight their way through, before giving into the irresistible urge to devour each other in the fun way 😉

As much as I have adored the other books having an alpha dragon shifter and human omega be fated mates and watching them fall in love, here we have 2 alpha dragon shifters as fated mates... and I'm so here for it! It doesn't start off smooth or sweet, since we have Terrance, working as a bodyguard to the wild Lothair, who is an actor and stuntman that is hellbent on getting under Terrance's skin and driving him crazy. But of course in doing so, they build up oodles of sexual tension until they both can't help but give into it - and it's such a fun ride!

This book won't be for everyone, since there is some sharing, but I loved that about it! These 2 are mates, and we get to see them bond and fall hard for each other, it's just that they are extra adventurous in the bedroom and still like to play together with omegas. And let me tell you, the scenes with just the 2 of them, as well as the scenes with another, they are all so friggin hot! Like scorching 🔥🔥 omgggg... amazing!!

But of course, aside from all the fantastic spice, it's a beautiful love story that melted my heart more than once. It's also adventurous and funny, with lots of great side characters too. I love these 2 guys so much and can't get enough of them! I really hope we get to see more of Lothair and Terrance down the road 🥰

Tropes / tags: bodyguard / client, fated mates, opposites attract

I love when two alphas fall in love with each other, and Terry and Lothair definitely made it entertaining!

Going from body guard / client to lovers and fated mates was quite the bumpy road for these two, Terry wasn't Lothair's biggest fan initially and Lothair didn't make Terry's job easy either. The tension between them was high, and I kept waiting for them to snap. Luckily I didn't have to wait long for it, and I loved seeing them give in to the chemistry and attraction that had been sizzling between them!

The suspense plot and mystery with Lothair's stalker kept things interesting as well, and I loved how protective Terry became of Lothair - even if they were both alphas and shifters. The opposites attract was still strong here though, with Lothair being somewhat of an unhinged sunshine while Terry was a bit of a strict grump. Their differences made it an entertaining read, and seeing them figuring things out was both fun and hot.

Breakneck was a smoking hot addition to the Dragons of Ardaine series! There was a lot of spice in this one, and there are some sharing of omegas on page as well. The romance part was fast paced and very sweet - I spent a lot of time smiling at my Kindle with these two!

Terrance, a disciplined private security professional with a spotless record, is assigned to protect Lothair — a famous actor and stuntman who also happens to be a dragon-shifter. Lothair thrives on danger, arrogance, and chaos, treating Terrance less like a bodyguard and more like a challenge. Though both are alphas and bound by rules that should keep them apart, Lothair relentlessly tests Terrance’s limits, pushing him toward attraction he refuses to admit. For Lothair, unraveling his straitlaced protector might be the most thrilling stunt of all. Their clash of personalities ignites sparks that blur the line between duty and desire, turning protection into temptation and threatening to burn down every rule that stands in their way.

I loved this story about two alphas whose collision of duty, chaos, and desire threatens to consume them — and the rules meant to keep them apart. I also loved how the story asked whether love can coexist with responsibility, or if desire inevitably undermines duty. It was also interesting that in this story true intimacy required surrender — even for those who define themselves by power. At its heart, this story is about two alphas whose collision of duty, chaos, and desire threatens to consume them — forcing them to decide whether breaking rules leads to ruin or to freedom. Easy to read and understand. This was an MM story with mature content.

I adore Roe's books—that rich, decadent, dirty style of writing that makes a reader's head spin. I have no idea how the author combines eroticism with all the emotions and deep feelings, turning them into a unique, truly captivating read.
Sharing is caring, and I couldn't agree more. These dragons were not ashamed to admit their needs and desires, they did not hide from their undeniable attraction to each other (well, Terence tried, but failed miserably to resist), they did not deny the primal lust and impulses of their nature. Not only that, but they felt so secure, their bond - so strong and unbreakable, that the inclusion of omegas wasn't considered like a threat, but simply a way to enhance their already heated dynamic. The passion, the mating pull, the clash of dominance between two alphas — everything just kept building up in undeniably thick intensity throughout the plot expansion. This is what I like in stories - no mincing words, no quiet fretting, no maddening pinning when everything could be solved with a simple, honest conversation. I laughed so much with this book, surrounded by all the warmth Lothaire and Terrance brought in, complete with attitude, snark and some brrodiness. It was a pleasure to read something so dynamic, so intense, and so fast-paced. A real, dragon-sized, breathtaking race from start to finish.

Breakneck is book four in the Dragons of Ardaine series and… oh my GOD. I was not prepared.

This book felt like getting hit with dragon fire, dragged into an alpha storm, and loving every single second of it. Two alpha dragons trying (and failing) to pretend they don’t want each other? Inject that right into my bloodstream.

Lothair is wild sunshine with no brakes. Beautiful, chaotic, needy in the cutest way, and constantly testing Terry’s sanity. And Terry? Sir, your stubbornness almost had ME pacing the room, but the moment he finally surrendered and let himself feel everything for Lothair… I had goosebumps. His protective side is unreal. Phenomenal. Chef’s kiss.

And the intensity between them? Listen. Roe Horvat knows how to write heat without it ever feeling empty. Every moment between them had emotion, tension, power, vulnerability, longing… all layered together so perfectly I was kicking my feet like a teenager.

The story itself was such a ride. Movie-star chaos, danger around every corner, dragons showing off, found family moments, action scenes, sweet bonding, hilarious dialogue, and moments that genuinely made my heart melt. I wasn’t expecting to fall this hard for them, but here we are.

This book gave me everything. The fire, the tenderness, the connection, the chaos, the devotion.

One of my favorite reads in the whole series. Absolutely five stars from me

Favourite of the series!

Thoroughly enjoyed this dragon shifter omegaverse book!

As always for this series, the main characters are well-rounded, flawed, and lovable. The supporting characters are brilliant. The setting just adds to the story. The action is fun and thrilling. And it's hot!

But I especially loved that this was a truly queer book – the male-only omegaverse worlds Roe Horvat writes are always brilliant, but the Alpha/Omega relationships can feel hetnormative to me (yes I understand the queer history and subtext of the OV sub-genre!). With an alpha-alpha couple, an open relationship (they have sex with each other AND share omegas), and a recognition of polyamory for both their relationship and others, this felt truly queer. And I loved it!

In this, you'll find:
●MM Dragon Shifter Omegaverse
●Two Alphas
●Stunt artist film star
●Bodyguard
●Bi-awakening of the alpha/omega type
●Open relationship (shared partners when both present)
●O.rgies
●Free climbing
●Some violence, car crash, carjacking
●Blackmail of secondary character over BDSM
●Mention of past forced pregnancy of parent
●Mention of past death of parent from cancer
●Discussion of growing up outside your culture

Roe's Dragons series is just one of my absolute favorite things from him. I love the relationships explored, the world of the dragons mixed with omegaverse tropes, and he always brings his perfect blend of heat with romance.

In this one we have two alphas! Terrance and Lothair are both strong-minded alphas who meet with Terrance is tasked with protection detail for Lothair. For me, this one felt SO different from previous books in the series since we're dealing with two alphas instead of an alpha/omega pairing. There is also more sharing in this one than we've had in previous books, since the two are still open to sharing an omega from time to time.

Roe writes just some of the hottest omegaverse, I always recommend his books if you're looking for high heat and more erotic romance. This one felt very much focused on the erotic side of things, even more than previous books. There is enough plot to provide some danger and conflict, but overall if you're looking for no angst, high steam and are open to sharing multiple partners, then you should definitely check this one out!

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Yep, like I’ve said so many times, no one writes MM omegaverse as hot and steamy as Roe Horvat.

This low-angst MM omegaverse romance is a fast, delicious read centered on two alpha Dragons who can’t seem to stay away from each other. Lothair, a charming actor and stuntman, meets his match in Terry, the no-nonsense bodyguard assigned to keep him safe. Their chemistry is instant, electric, and handled with a wonderful balance of heat and tenderness.

The story leans into the extra-spicy side of omegaverse dynamics—plenty of group heat, and consensual play with eager omegas—while keeping the emotional stakes light. Lothair and Terry’s attraction grows in the middle of chaotic film sets, tight security details, and some wildly steamy encounters, but the focus always returns to their building bond and the unexpected softness between two confident alphas.

If you want an easy, joyful read that mixes action-star glam with bodyguard tension, alpha-alpha yearning, and an unabashedly erotic edge, this one hits the mark.

Absolutely loved this book!!! I have enjoyed the Dragons of Ardaine series but this one has to be my favorite. This type of relationship dynamic is a favorite of mine and it is a rarity among romance writers because some don’t appreciate it so having one of my favorite authors write such a wonderfully lovely, entertaining, and extremely hot book with it just made my heart sing. Characters that are completely opposites who are fated mates so the constant tension just fuels the erotically explosive scenes. Lothair is the wild and carefree action star playboy with a flock of boy toys, a sexual dynamo that is a vers alpha. Terrance is the buttoned up and serious security guard, an alpha that needs to loosen up. Two alphas learning how to be each other fated mate with the help of friends, family, and a few naughtily sexy omegas. 10/10 recommend!!! This is going directly to my collection of books that get read over and over again.

I'm absolutely devastated that I can't reread this again for the first time because it's honestly just so beautiful. I enjoyed seeing these two go from strangers, getting on each others nerves and then watching them slowly fall for each other while still enjoying that delicious tension. I liked how the pain from the story wasn't from either of them and was from an outside source which was handled quickly when it popped up. I was SO glad we got to see Paris and Boone's relationship and I loved seeing Paris fiercely tell the world Boone was his.

Seeing them at the beginning to getting their wedding was absolutely everything! I only wish we got to see them with a mate or two. Perhaps on Patreon!?

This was an absolutely beautiful story Roe and I cannot thank you enough for the chance to read it early! These two were perfection.

I think there should be more alpha/alpha stories.

I mean, what can be sexier than two beautiful, strong alphas who submit to each other in every way? Terrance and Lothair were all kinds of hot.

Things didn’t start off too well between them but that was mostly due to the sexual tension between them. They both wanted each other but Terrance was reluctant to give in.

But once they let their desires take over, there was no stopping them. They really were meant for each other.

I loved how protective Terrence was of Lothair, especially when things got a little hairy and he was in danger. He was ready to protect him with his life. Terrance was always the voice of reason while Lothair was more carefree.

I only wish we had babies. It would have been cool to see them be dads. I think Lothair would be the best daddy ever.

Awesome story! I really enjoyed it 🥰

I loved this story and boy was it HOT, like 10 flames HOT. 🔥😍 While this is the 4th book in the Dragons of Ardaine series it works well as a standalone story. Terrance and Lothair are seriously hot together and I’m not sure what else to say except if you like scorching, erotic romance and dragons (!) then this just might be the perfect book for you.

I’d love to read more about Lothair and Terrance and I want to know if they found an omega. The secondary characters of Paris and Boone added a lot to the story and I loved omega Zach and I hope he gets a story of his own.

Another great story in a fantastic series. I love how Roe has broadened his Omegaverse world where Dragon shifters live secretly amongst humans to include alpha to alpha and omega to omega attraction.
This provides a great backdrop to this opposites attract alpha dragon shifter story. The initial clash between bad boy and stunt actor Lothair and his meticulous new security adviser Terrance seems inevitable, but with a dose of forbidden attraction added in!
As always in Roe's stories, there's plenty of steam and character development that made this particular fated mate tale completely believable and engaging. I adore this story world!

This was brilliant. I went into it with completely different expectations, but page by page I let go of them and absolutely fell in love with the main characters. Two equally strong, well-matched men — and thank goodness, the age gap is negligible this time. On top of that, we got a slow burn and some really interesting twists. And, as always, the side characters were fantastic — that’s the author’s true superpower. I only wish there were an epilogue set a few years later, with Zach in it too. Five stars from me, and I can’t wait for the next book.

2.5 stats, a great start but could not continue to read it.
I know it was my fault for not reading other books on this universe/series but I was expecting an alpha/alpha without surprises and and that's when this book that was 4 stats or more end up falling for me, at least it's not trying to deceive but with this my hopes for this series is gone, so to keep searching for alpha/alpha books!

Dragons. And spice only Roe can deliver on

I have adored this series from the beginning and this one is definitely unique in its fact that it’s two faded mates are both alpha but give Roe a chance to deliver top-tier spice and you will never be disappointed.
These two MMC‘s definitely complement each other in the best way while not being exactly what they were expecting.
