Snoodles in Space: Escape from Zoodletraz! by Steven Joseph is another action-packed adventure centered around the people of Noodleham and their journey into the galaxy to rescue Droodle the Poodle and Schmoodle the Poodle from Zoodletraz, an inescapable place for pets deemed illegal on Zoodle.
This colorful graphic novel takes readers on an exciting and humorous adventure through the Noodle Zoodle-sphere and we meet new characters as well. A fun and relatable addition to the crew is Swifty Swoodle, a hit pop sensation, and the DooWopadoodles, a rock group made up of our familiar friends, Briana Brainy Broodle, Ricky Rockadoodle, Frimpy Frumpy Froodle, and Whimpy Whiny Woodle. The overwhelming success of Swifty and the DooWopadoodles reaches into the galaxy to planet Zoodle and Cloodle the Grand Roodle who decides he wants to make a go of it as a musician. Unfortunately, there is a problem with his plans—he’s not a good musician. The author does a great job of giving a history of the importance of music to the people of Noodleham.
Following Cloodle’s failed attempt at a music career, his master plan for revenge is focused on banning pets on Zoodle and imprisoning them to punish the residents of Noodleham. Inside Zoodletraz, we meet the pets already there, some stray cats who have formed a band called the Trash Can Cats. The poodles and the Trash Can Cats have a jam session in Zoodletraz and are biding their time while they wait to learn what is ahead for them. However, the people of Noodleham have a plan to rescue the pets!
Swifty Swoodle has a custom Cloakadoodle Swoodle car, which gets her and The DooWopadoodles in and out of stadiums safely and without being detected—and they realize they can use this to get the pets out of Zoodletraz.
Another surprise was about to happen. Swifty Swoodle walked in. She had arrived in her custom made Cloakadoodle Swoodle Car. The Cloakadoodle Swoodle Car was specifically developed to take the DooWopadoodles safely to and from stadium concerts. This was because they were mobbed everywhere they went. “I heard what happened. You can use the Swifty Swoodles to go to Zoodletraz. During our concert tour, Rick Rockadoodle and I developed these Twizolicious Invisolicous Licoricious Noodles. It will allow us to reach Zoodletraz completely undetected.”
Following the fast-paced take down of Cloodle the Grand Roodle and heroic rescue of all pets in Zoodletraz, the Noodleham and Zoodle crew make the best of what is left—finding purpose and community again centered in music. This fun adventure story, with its attention-grabbing illustrations, is enjoyable for families and readers of any age.
When Droodle the Poodle and Doo Doo Kidoodle tied the knot, they shattered the biggest rule on planet Zoodle: no pets allowed! As punishment, poor Droodle finds himself locked away in Zoodletraz, a prison from which no one has ever escaped. The question that drives the story is irresistible: can Droodle outsmart his captors and return to his beloved Doo Doo Kidoodle?
From the very first page, what stands out most is the comic book format. Children’s literature rarely embraces this style, making Snoodles in Space a delightful exception. Its layout instantly captures attention, not only from young readers but also from parents and educators seeking something fresh and visually engaging. Even reluctant readers will be drawn in, eager to follow the wild adventures of this eccentric cast.
Steven Joseph brings remarkable depth to his characters. In just a few panels, each one comes alive with personality and charm. Readers quickly form connections and root for them as if they’ve known them for ages. This emotional resonance, achieved through vivid details and playful dialogue, ensures that children will feel immersed in the world of Snoodles, Zoodles, and beyond.
The story also shines in its portrayal of community spirit. Whether celebrating victories or lending a hand in tough times, the inhabitants of Zoodle remind young readers of the value of kindness and cooperation. Through these moments, Joseph subtly imparts a lesson: helping others, no matter your age, shapes you into a compassionate, well-rounded person.
Andy Case’s illustrations elevate the story even further. His dynamic art bursts with energy, color, and imagination. Presented in a comic-book style, each page feels alive with detail and movement. The unique character designs and bold hues keep the reader’s eyes dancing from panel to panel. It’s the kind of book that invites you to linger and explore every corner of the artwork.
Snoodles in Space: Escape from Zoodletraz is a story that entertains both children and adults alike. With its clever concept, lively illustrations, and heartfelt humor, it’s a comic adventure that will have readers laughing, learning, and turning pages long past bedtime.
Snoodles in Space: Escape from Zoodletraz, penned by the extremely talented Steven Joseph, marks the third chapter in the wildly popular (and rightly so) Snoodles series, and it continues the tradition of delivering sheer joy from beginning to end. I've sung this author's praises more times than I can count for his sensational work, and now I must bestow even more accolades upon him thanks to this latest triumph. I dare say, this installment has quickly snatched the crown as my favourite in the series to date; I was in stitches right from the start!
Joseph possesses an exceptional gift for crafting stories that every child will adore. And when I say every child, I mean every single one - even those rambunctious little whirlwinds you just wish would pick up a book. This story is precisely what they require: bright, colourful, humorous, and packed with action; just the ticket to ignite their imagination and nurture a passion for reading. As they plunge into the narrative, they not only relish a fantastic tale but also gain invaluable practice in their reading abilities.
The tale is overflowing with a level of silliness that kids simply can’t resist and perfectly paced to make sure there’s not a single dull moment. With a plot that features intergalactic musicians, a = revenge plan, talking cats, a rescue mission and lots more wackadoodleness, the story is a delightful concoction of bonkers madness that will keep young readers on their toes. As usual, the characters are hilariously quirky, each adding their own unique flavour to the already zany plot. Moreover, the repetitive elements sprinkled throughout are a clever touch and a surefire way to keep young minds engaged, boosting the fun quotient even more!
Overall, I can't sing this book's praises enough, nor the whole series for that matter; it’s a guaranteed hit that will be read until the pages are dog-eared and tattered! Also, the thought of the absurdly fun pretend play that will result from this series fills me with so much joy; the fun won't just fizzle out when the book is closed, it will fuel the imagination of all who enter the whacky world of the snoodles!
Snoodles in Space: Escape from Zoodletraz! is everything I hoped for-and then some. Strap in, because Steven Joseph and Andy Case have outdone themselves with this third out-of-this-world Snoodles adventure. From the very first page, we're thrown into chaos as Droodle the Poodle and Doo Doo Kidoodle break the biggest rule on Planet Zoodle: no pets allowed. The consequence? Droodle (along with Schmoodle) is locked up in Zoodletraz-the galaxy's most escape-proof prison. Think Alcatraz... but with more tentacles and way fewer lawyers. The cast of characters is nothing short of wackadoodle genius. We meet noodle-powered scientists, intergalactic musicians, and talking cats banging away on trash can drum kits. There's a cranky villain reading self-help books about revenge, a Jalapeño Popadoodle Noodle, a flying Balloonadoodle, and even a Cloakadoodle Swoodle Car. (Don't ask, just roll with it-half the joy is in the wild surprise of what comes next!)
What truly makes this book shine is the mix of zany rhymes, clever puns, and laugh-out-loud humour that works for children and adults. The playful nods to pop culture (yes, Taylor Swift as "Swifty Noodles" makes a cameo!) are pure genius. Parents will be chuckling right alongside their little ones. And let's talk about the art-Andy Case's illustrations are sublime. Every page is packed with colour, energy, and detail. I found myself rereading just to take in all the visual jokes tucked into the margins. This is not just a book, it's an experience. Whether your child is noodle-obsessed, alien-obsessed, or simply loves to laugh, Snoodles in Space: Escape from Zoodletraz! is the NEXT GREAT ESCAPE you don't want to miss. Joseph and Case have created another brilliantly bonkers, noodlesome adventure that cements Snoodles as one of the funniest, most imaginative series in children's literature today.
Joseph dishes out another round of zany, noodle-fueled fun in his latest Snoodles in Space adventure, a tale that mixes sci-fi silliness with rollicking musical mayhem. After Cloodle the Grand Roodle’s big Earth concert flops, he kidnaps Schmoodle and Droodle the Poodles (plus poor Grandfafoodle) and hauls them off to Zoodletraz, a supposedly inescapable island prison. Along come Herbie Snoodleman, Sour Croodleman, Briana Brainy Broodle, Ricky Rockadoodle, and the rest of the noodle-fueled gang as they band together with jalapeño-powered noodles, popadoodle gadgets, and a whole lot of musical mayhem. Will they be able to save the day?
Joseph’s prose brims with rhythmic wordplay and a gleeful inventiveness that keeps the nonsense buoyant rather than overwhelming. His narrative leaps between satire, slapstick, and fable-like whimsy, making the story as delightful to read aloud as it is to picture in your mind. Andy Case’s illustrations seal the deal, exploding with bright comic-book colors, cartoon exaggeration, and playful detail. From noodle art museums to fiery villain backdrops, each panel hums with energy, making the story feel like a Saturday morning cartoon on the page. Kids will revel in the chaos, while adults will grin at the sly layers of humor in every drawing. A noodle-slurping delight from start to finish.
Have you met the wacky characters known as the Snoodles? Get ready for a hilarious adventure with tongue twisters, colorful characters, and bold illustrations. There is a strict rule on planet Zoodle. No pets allowed. Two residents are caught and thrown in prison, the worst there is, called Zoodletraz. Can the wacky band of heroes break their friends out of jail before it’s too late?
Snoodles in Space: Escape from Zoodletraz is a laugh ‘til it hurts space adventure with dialogue featuring rhyming words, outrageous characters, and vibrant illustrations. While it reads like a children’s book, the illustrations make this graphic novel impossible to put down. Both adults and children will laugh out loud and grin while reading.
Steven Joseph have penned an incredible story that is sure to be an award-winner. I started reading it one evening and couldn’t put it down. I laughed until tears rolled down my face. The illustrations express the story vividly and truly make Snoodles in Space: Escape from Zoodletraz a must-read for any reader on this planet or solar system.
This is the latest in the Snoodles series of children’s books – in fun verse with rhymes ending in –oodle.
Pets are strictly forbidden on the planet Zoodle, and there has been a mixed-marriage between a (dog-like) Zoodle and an Earth poodle; thus they must take Droodle the Poodle and DooDoo the Kidoodle to Zoodletraz – an unescapable jail. Others are taken to Zoodletraz, and are met with musically-inclined Toonadoodles, who were also not welcome on Zoodle. A sweet yet spicy plan is hatched for their escape – and another to oust the Grand Roodle and replace him. Zoodletraz becomes a place of Raz-a-mataz, and a new Grand Roodle, who we have met in previous books, is appointed. Cloodle the (former) Grand Roodle goes on to bigger and better things.
After the end, there are things to draw, color, and several Zoodle-oriented games for all readers to play, and illustrations and names of characters.
This is a delightful book, better read aloud, and the illustrations are not to be missed!
Welcome to Snoodles in Space: A Snoodle, the Zoodle Kidoodles, and One Happy Schmoodle, a graphic novel that is created with full pages illustrated, easy to read and follow, instead of having claustrophobic little panels. It's vivid, filled with humor and diversity (characters are not all human). Also makes perfect read-aloud with the alliterations and funny names. Try saying "We also have Frimpy Frumpy Froodle and Whimpy Whiny Woodle." If you don't smile, saying it, I don't know what's Wackky Doodling Wrecking Wrong with D-ue, Dude. Silly fun story of a forbidden pet, and problem-solving. I loved the stay cats, they are all unique and fun. On a deeper note, great take on taking away illegal family members to another planet story. Frenetic Fun!
Four Point Four Stars This was a fun whimsical read. Droodle and Poodle and Doo Doo Kidoodle have broken a law on their planet - the law of ‘No pet’. The Snoodles have to get together to help their friends out of Zoodletraz, which is an impossible-to-break-out-kind-of-prison. There is also Granfafoodle and the Trash Cans as a side story. Can the Snoodles break into Zoodletraz? Oh, there is a deaf interpreter too who explains the events to us. Whimsical cute read. I enjoyed the illustrations and the fun names. I also enjoyed reading about how Croodle turned into the perfect villain who turned sour because of a very ‘sad’ reason. Fun read. Thank you for the eARC Netgalley
While I don’t normally reach for sci-fi graphic novels, this was the exception!! The premise of the book really stood out to me not to mention the uniqe panel style! I really loved the rhymes and storyline of this graphic novel which gifted me an insanely fun experience when reading this and had me chuckling throughout the whole journey.
Check out this graphic novel if you’re looking for a fun, laid back, adventurous graphic novel!
I know you must've heard of this series from somewhere. You have to have. This is so much fun! Snoodles are back with their usual adventure in this book. First off, Zoodletraz? Iconic. This book is simply hilarious. I just loved every bit of reading it. This book isn't to be taken seriously at all. You're meant to have fun reading it and I think that's the best part. There's hilarious vocabulary and almost childish stuff said in the book. I love it. Period.
Steven Joseph and Andy Case have once again served up more wackadoodle antics with another Snoodles in Space story. Joseph has written a variety of funny books that appeal to every generation. His zany sense of humor and vivid imagination created silly characters and even sillier situations that appeal to kids. His writing is perfectly complimented by the bright colorful illustrations by Andy Case. The duo have crafted a great graphic novel series perfect for middle grade readers. I giggled through the first three books and this fourth once still has me laughing.
This silly series began with the award winning Snoodles, Kidoodles, Poodles and Lots and Lots of Noodles in a futuristic story about where all the cars run on sour kraut until Herbie Noodleman invents the snoodle, a car powered by noodles. Now the air is clean and people have a cooked noodle meal awaiting in the engine at the end of the day.
The latest book, Escape from Zoodletraz is even sillier. When a dog who marries an alien is living on a planet where no pets are allowed, they get thrown into Zoodletraz. Crazy scientists from Noodleham are off to the rescue in this wacky prison break adventure.
These funny graphic novels are great for the whole family. Based on reading level and length, I would recommend these books for nine to 12 year old readers. However the books are great for any age. Younger listeners will enjoy this series too, along with their older readers. I enjoyed all the wordplay and when I shared it with a three year old he loved it.
What other graphic novel has an album to go with it? You can stream or download Noodleham Rocks. on Bandcamp. Of you can find it on Spotify, Apple Music or Youtube.
