So I hated every second of this. It was cringe, beyond cringe, and I am so glad that the publisher sent me both an eARC and ALC because I could not have read this with my eyeballs. Not a huge fan of the narrators either. She made every female character sound whiny, and he made every male character sound like he lived in a dungeon.

Why were they immediately in love when they were enemies (which I have a lot to say about that in my review of book 1) at the end of book 1 basically??

I swear book 1 ended with them hating each other and then book 2 suddenly they're in love and inseparable... was a chapter edited out or did I miss something?

And oh my god, the overuse of the word 'mate'. Just because they're mates doesn't mean you don't have to do any relationship development... it was lazy writing in my opinion.

And Logan being in a secret band... what a loser. I got the ick. Plus, his dialogue was so cringe in this book.

This book is diabolical considering how much I adored book 1.

After the absolute triumph that was Spellcaster, which I eagerly awarded 4.5/5 stars (rounded up), Night Witch was easily one of my most anticipated reads of the year. Unfortunately, this sequel did not live up to expectations. While a 3-star rating may be fair, it actually feels a bit generous given how disappointing the overall execution turned out to be, so I rounded the 2.5 stars down. Thank you to the publisher and NetGalley for the ARC and ALC!

A Packed Plot and Ruined Pacing
The biggest issue with Night Witch is its structure. Frankly, this should have been two books. The narrative attempts to juggle two completely distinct major plot threads, culminating in two separate "boss battles." Because the author tried to cram both arcs into a single installment, the pacing suffered immensely.

The first 25% of the book starts off fairly slow, establishing the return to Weatherstone College. But once the plot kicks into gear, it feels like the author realized they were running out of time and just threw everything at the wall. A prime example of this is a quest that is explicitly hyped up as being practically impossible - yet our characters breeze through it and complete it in literally one day with little to no hardship. When high stakes are resolved that easily, it completely drains the tension from the story.

The Problem with a "Perfect" Logan
The dynamic between the main characters was another major letdown. The enemies-to-lovers arc in Spellcaster was incredibly satisfying because of the organic tension. In Night Witch, however, Logan feels like an entirely different person.

He has been written into an almost annoyingly perfect boyfriend. He can cook, he’s the lead singer in a band, he’s rich, he’s 300% devoted to Paisley in an obsessive alpha-male way, and he constantly protects her and gives her everything she wants. On top of that, he is a master communicator who always says the exact right thing. While that might sound nice on paper, it actually takes you entirely out of the story. He is so flawless that he ceases to feel like a real, believable character, killing the genuine romantic chemistry they used to have.

Final Thoughts
If you loved the grit and tension of the first book, Night Witch might leave you feeling frustrated. It’s an okay read if you just want to see how the Weatherstone College duet wraps up, but the rushed pacing, overstuffed plot, and overly idealized romance ultimately kept it from being the spectacular sequel it should have been.

This might be a controversial take but this book was super disappointing. The plot, magic system, and world building had so much potential but there was a significant decrease in quality from the first book to the second. First of all I didn’t know it was a duology, but looking back the rushed pace and how fast every major plot line was resolved makes a lot of sense. For everything that happened in this book, it was far too short. The book went back and forth from Paisley and Logan being all over each other to every single problem being solved so quickly. As a reader I was cringed out by how many times the characters called each other mate and how fast they fell for each other when the first book was a nice slow burn and tension build of their relationship. I also have gripes with how all the big bad evil was stopped. I felt like we were told, not shown the resolution and it resolved in a couple chapters at the end. The reactions from the characters especially Logan with his father was so beyond mild while his rage over Paisley was blown so out of proportion it just didn’t make sense. I don’t know I was just let down by this book because the concept was so intriguing but ultimately the execution was rushed and failed.

This duet is such a fun read. It has a unique magic system, a great found family, and a hero worth obsessing over.

I was slumping HARD, but I picked up this ARC and devoured it in record time. Jaymin’s writing is so addictive and this is one of her best!

Logan and Paisley are adorable, to be honest. I don’t know that I expected them to be so sweet on each other this whole book based on the first one, but I ate it up regardless. He’s possessive, protective, and wants nothing more than to take care of her. Dude is down bad!

The book could have been longer, honestly! If only to allow the last act to feel a bit more fleshed out and have the weight it needed. Still, it was a satisfying end to the story and follow up to book one.

Definitely recommend. Especially if you’re looking for a story with that crack factor that won’t let you put it down until it’s over!

I was so excited to be back at Weatherstone College, and Night Witch picks up not long after the ending of Spell Caster, so it was easy to jump right back into the story.

I received an audiobook copy for review, and I was so happy to see the same narrators return from Spell Caster. If you enjoyed the audio production of the first book, you'll enjoy this one just as much. Jason Clarke's accent for Logan is still one of my favorite parts of the narration, and Savannah Peachwood does such a wonderful job capturing Paisley's youth, innocence, and emotional growth throughout the story.

The highlight of this book was definitely Paisley. Watching her figure out what her new affinity actually means and seeing the direction her magic is headed had me completely invested. Every new discovery made me want to know more, and honestly, I wish we'd spent even more time diving into the full extent of her abilities.

The first part of the book is a little slow, but once things get moving, the pacing really picks up. My biggest issue was actually the romance. Logan goes through a pretty major shift, and while I love these two together, there was a lot of "look how much we love each other." After a while it started feeling repetitive, and I found myself wishing some of those pages had been used to expand the magic or flesh out the ending instead.

Because when the finale hits... it flies. There were so many cool developments that I wanted to sit with a little longer before everything wrapped up.

One thing Jaymin Eve continues to nail is the friendships. Logan, Paisley, and the rest of the crew have such genuine chemistry, and the found-family vibes are some of my favorite parts of the series. They make Weatherstone College feel like a place I'd happily keep coming back to.

Overall, this was another fun installment, and even with a few pacing hiccups.

I mean, it's tried and tested Jaymin Eve isn't it, it's always going to be readable.

Damn though, she's written such a vivid and well rounded world, with such a clear magic system... I can't help but feel it's just a bit disappointing. There is SO much promise but it's all a bit insta-crush, a bit mate-cringe... And there's more love bombing than you could shake a fist at.

I get it. It's what she does. It's her formula. All her FMC's cry at the drop of a hat. They all love being carried everywhere, they are all obsessed with showering or being showered and towelled off my their MATE (you have to shout that word, just incase there is a reader somewhere in the world who hasn't been slapped around the head a million times by her characters MATE BOND in the first ten chapters)... And every shower room is well stocked with toothbrushes, spare moisturiser (she always mentions moisturizer) and her MMC's always love to cook for their MATE's. (MATE)

So there we have it. All I can conclude is that Jaymin Eve loves her food, cries a lot, has an unhealthy obsession with showering and gushes everywhere like a hose (because, ALL the FMC's do). I hate to think how much underwear that poor woman goes through.

So, my thoughts are that this is an entertaining light read but largely disappointing in the sense that I felt this was rushed. This isn't a serious book and it isn't claiming to be, we aren't aiming for the heady heights of peak Romantasy and this is miles apart from peak fantasy but it is an enjoyable offering from a tried and tested author. I would say this is an average paranormal romance, worth a read and perfect for a holiday because it's a very easy read.

I suppose I just wonder what this lady could write if she stepped out of her comfort zone, shunned the formula and really tried something different.

I am genuinely so confused by this one. I was so excited for it and practically begged for this ARC because I loved Spellcaster and especially loved Logan there… but I’m only 50% in and unfortunately DNFing.

Was this even written by the same person?!

The writing felt incredibly immature and confusing to me, to the point where sentences were contradicting themselves. I kept rereading passages trying to figure out if I missed something because the flow and logic just felt off the entire time.

And Logan?? I’m honestly shocked by what happened to his character. In Spellcaster he was dark, smoldering, mysterious, and sexy. In this one he came across as possessive, annoying, and weirdly childish. His entire personality seemed to revolve around Paisley to the point where he couldn’t think straight.

The whole “I knew we were mates when she was four” while also calling her sexy gave me major whiplash, and then he basically spends the book hovering over her and babysitting her every move. I understand wanting to protect her, but it felt so over the top that Paisley barely seemed capable of existing on her own.

Overall, this was such a disappointing read for me because I had such high expectations going in. I kept waiting for it to click and feel like the author’s other books that I’ve loved, but it just never happened.

Yes !!! When I say I love a possessive MMC that will burn the world down for you … I see this !!! Started the read a bit tame and then we went for that burn !!! I had been waiting for this read and was not disappointed. Love a good witchy vibe and really enjoyed how they explored affinities more in this book , the histories of their world and we got to see some serious magic muscle flexing !! Swoon worthy. Totally enjoyed the furthering of the found family in this as well as development of some side heat with other couples !! Just had an all around great time reading this and cheering team night witch on !!!

look, i don’t remember much from book #1, but i do think this was a massive change from the banter/enemies-to-lovers vibes. he’s a MAJOR obsessive, ott simp now. and sometimes that’s great! but right now, i’m not in the mood, and so i’m putting this one on hold.

i also remember NONE of the worldbuilding or plot from book #1, but that’s on me… i probably could have used a refresher to properly engage.

I absolutely flew through this one. It’s fast-paced, addictive, and packed with magic, spice, and heart. Logan and Paisley genuinely surprised me and I didn’t expect them to be so soft with each other after book one, but I loved every minute of it. Logan is fully in his protective, touch-her-and-die era (down bad in the best way), and Paisley is a total badass FMC who holds her own. Their chemistry is strong, the yearning hits, and yes… the spice delivers.

The dark academia vibes mixed with witches, warlocks, elemental magic, and fated mates made for such a fun, refreshing setup. Add in a found family that actually feels warm and real (Paisley’s family especially), and it gives the story an extra layer that I really appreciated.

If I had one small critique, it’s that I wouldn’t have minded a bit more room in the final act was overally, a satisfying conclusion that kept me hooked until the very end.

As the sequel to Spellcaster, Night Witch picks up a few months after the end of the first book with Paisley trying to... spoiler... while trying to figure out her feelings for Logan, while he vows … spoiler.


While this is book two of the series and supposedly the final, I don't want to give too much away, but that said, there could be a spin-off, though I don't know if I'll read it.

Why?

Because this book focused more on their relationship instead of the magic. This was a disappointment because the magic and the world around it were far more interesting. It was as if the author only cared about the adult content rather than the actual plot, unless that was the adult content, which I was skimming, rolling my eyes, and gagging far more than reading a totally engaging story.

I know spice is the fad, but yuck. And this is not, IMO, a romance. This is a stalker and controlling relationship, not something I would want my daughter to believe is acceptable. IMO Logan would keep Paisley locked in his home.

I did like the friendship between the girls. It showed their different personalities.

As I said, the magic and world in this story were great, but I can't give it very many stars because of the coercive, controlling abuse of the subplot and the grossness of the adult content, which makes this not suitable for readers under eighteen.

And while I liked the closure, there could be a spin-off. However, overall the ending was too simple. The author could have put so much more into the ending, made it five times better with more detail and action, but nope, it was lazy.

Take out half of the adult content and obsessiveness and replace it with the magic and world, then it would have gotten another star.

I want to start by saying that I did enjoy Night Witch and I was definitely invested in the story, but unfortunately, it didn’t quite hit the same for me as the first book.

The vibes in this one felt very different, and I honestly can’t decide if that was the book itself or if switching from reading the first book to listening to this one on audio played a part. The audiobook narrator’s voice for Logan also threw me off a little. It just wasn’t what I had pictured for him, and I think that affected how I connected with his character.

I also felt like Logan was noticeably different in this book compared to the first. It almost felt like we were getting a completely different version of him, and I had a hard time reconciling the two.

That being said, I was still invested in the story the entire time. I never felt bored or like I wanted to stop reading, but the pacing felt a little off to me and I can’t quite put my finger on exactly why.

Overall, I still enjoyed the book and will definitely be open to reading more by this author.

This was the perfect ending to an immaculate duet! I absolutely devoured Spell Caster, and this book was somehow even better! Dark academia meets witches and warlocks…plus maybe a little more, but I’ll let you discover that for yourselves. The magic system in this book was so refreshing and unique, with fated mates, and the most perfect found family.

Paisley has an affinity that was irradiated years ago and it may be the only hope of saving their world, but with a council that wants her kind dead, it’s up to her families enemy to help her fight off both the demons that are showing up in their world, the council, as well as his father that’s out for revenge.

This was such a quick, and fun fast paced read, it has heart racing moments, and an MMC that takes yearning to the next level!

Night Witch is the sequel following Spellcaster, completing the Weatherstone College duology. I gave Spellcaster 4 ⭐️ and loved how it was an urban fantasy along with the plot-line of the book. I also enjoyed Paisley and Logan’s relationship in book one, but felt like their romance was being pushed too much onto the reader, rather than feeling it myself while reading it in this. I enjoyed the follow up of Night Witch and the conclusion to the story. However, I do feel the ending was a little rushed.

I ultimately ended up giving Night Witch 3 ⭐️ because I did not love the writing style. Im not sure if I just chose to ignore it, or maybe it wasn’t as bothersome when I read Spellcaster, however, in Night Witch I felt the writing style was very juvenile, sporadic and just not for me. The book is not YA so I would not recommend it for YA only readers, but the writing was giving very young adult, and reading it as an adult when it is meant for adult audiences just made me dislike it a bit.

Overall, Im glad I read the conclusion to the story, but I did not feel as connected to the characters or their story as I did when I read Spellcaster. It is a short duology, and I would recommend this to anyone who wants a quick light read in between heavier books!

2 Stars and spoilers ahead....

So Spellcaster was interesting, left a fair bit of mystery, why was Logan so wishy-washy? What happened to his mom? What role did Paisley's mom actually play in the situation? What was happening with Paisley's magic? Gave a really good opportunity for Jaymin Eve to make a very interesting story... Too bad it fell completely flat.

So we start out on winter break and Logan shows up and suddenly he's so invested, Paisley's his everything, he'll do anything for her... Okay. We've got the worn out trope that he was protecting her by keeping distance, he's all in now and will do anything. And he continues to say the same thing in every conversation for the rest of the book.🙄(The book would've been 4 chapters shorter if she removed the "love you more than anything/you're my world/I'm completely devoted to only you" BS from every conversation) It gets so old so fast. They're mates, they're soul bound WE GET IT, GET BACK TO THE PLOT! So there's a curse, it takes out Logans Dad since he cast it, completely cutting that whole storyline off in 2 chapters. And aapparently it's gonna be a very quick tie up for this whole story. And no actual plot building or resolutions.

So after the whole curse/Logan's Dad's death, we're back to school and an immediate trial for Paisley to be executed. Because screw actual story telling let's just wrap it up... You could see it coming that Belle would sell out Paisley, even the characters knew it would happen, to her evil manipulative dad(hello lowest hanging fruit). And of course this would tie up all the loose ends with minimal story or actual thought in to what could've been a really interesting situation. So Paisley's head gets taken off but she's the ultimate reaper and gets immediately sent back to keep logan from destroying the world. Their love is so deep and wonderful blah, blah, blah. Trevor hangs on to Belle because she has no backbone and can't be held responsible for completely betraying Paisley but their not friends anymore but she remains friend with the rest of the group. Stupid. Now Logan is a rockstar and everyone is happy, Paisley gets to be a reaper and keep cleaning up dark magic cause that's the whole point of her.

So disappointed in how lackluster and basic it was. The creativity was there, the potential to be a really cool magical story was there and Jaymin Eve took the most basic, easiest non-creative route she could. I really don't know why I keep reading her books. They all start off interesting and with potential and all end with the same "love you more than anything/will do everything for you" mate-love story with absolutely nothing interesting happening so she can wrap it up.

I have two trains of thought here: First, this was a quick, fun continuation of the Weatherstone College world where Paisley continues to explore her magic. Second, I wish there was more substance to this story.

Plot-wise, very little happens in this book. Paisley continues to learn about her abilities while trying to prove to the world she is not evil. That is pretty much the bulk of the plot. And to be fair, this is a pretty short book by fantasy standards these days, but I just wish there was... more? More exploration into the history of the affinities, particularly the reapers.

Relationships actually become the main focus of this book, which might not be so bad, but there is a trope in here that pops up and then is brought up approximately every 0.5 seconds. The romance between Paisley and Logan is front and center, like I would say the ratio is 80% relationship 20% plot.
The good news is, we also get to see more of Paisley's relationships with her friends and family as well, which I did like to see more. She has a great born family, but she also grows a great found family here, too. Although I would have liked to see more depth in the side characters as well. It really was the Pais & Logan show and everyone else revolved around their orbit completely.

I had a lot of fun with this, but I will say book 1 definitely takes the cake for this duology.

Audio note: Savannah Peachwood and Jason Clarke are incredible. Once again, they bring Paisley and Logan to life and deliver a great single-POV duet narration. As I listen at 3x speed, there were a few moments where the male narration was so deep/low that it was a little garbled at faster speed, but overall it was really great.

I really enjoyed Night Witch – it's a solid sequel that pulls you right back into Paisley's world. She's come a long way from the confused freshman in the first book, and now she's dealing with some seriously heavy stuff. It's intense, but I loved watching her fight through it all.

The relationship with Logan is the heart of the story, and honestly, their bond just gets stronger and sweeter here. He's completely devoted to her, and their scenes together hit all the right emotional notes. The world-building also gets way more interesting. The plot twists gave the whole story more meaning.

Some plot points felt a bit predictable, and the middle section dragged a little. I also wish we got more from the side characters, they kind of fade into the background at times.

Still, the ending totally made up for it. Overall, it's a really satisfying read – not flawless, but definitely worth your time if you liked the first book.

I am completely obsessed with this series.

I loved the first book, but somehow this one was even better. I started it and basically disappeared for a day because I could not stop reading. Between the action, the magic, the romance, and all the twists, I was hooked from beginning to end.

Logan Kingston. That’s it. That’s the review.

Seriously though, the way this man cares for Paisley had me absolutely swooning. The way he shows up for her, protects her, and loves her was everything I wanted. And can we talk about the tomcat? Every scene with that cat melted me.

The romance was incredible. The tension, the chemistry, the devotion. It all worked for me. And the spice? Fantastic. Every single moment felt earned because of the connection between the characters.

I listened to the audiobook and wow. The duet narration was perfection. The narrators completely brought these characters to life, and those accents had me kicking my feet. It made an already amazing story even better.

I also loved spending more time in this world. The magic system is so much fun, the stakes felt high, and the found family remains one of my favorite parts of the series.

This was one of those books where I kept telling myself “just one more chapter” and suddenly half the book was gone.

An easy five stars. I loved every minute of it and I’m already missing these characters. Jaymin Eve absolutely knocked this series out of the park. ❤️

I was so excited to receive Night Witch by Jaymin Eve after enjoying the first book in the duology titled Spellcaster.

In Night Witch we return to Weatherstone College, a prestigious magic academy with Paisley for her second year where we encounter magic, monsters, curses and illegal affinities.

This romantasy is fast moving and exciting and where the last book vibed enemies to lovers here it shifts up a notch to a steamy romance 🌶️ I loved the mystery and energy and the family and group friendship elements.

I found Logan Kingston a powerful spellcaster to have a rather ‘Touch Her & Die’ creepy and obsessive side, I’m not sure if that is hot or not, you decide?

Overall I really loved this, it’s a fast read and was a page turner for me!

Night Witch is the conclusion to the Weatherstone College duology following Paisley as she attends the college to learn to hone her magic.

Night Witch picks up after the events of Spellcaster as Paisley discovers her new affinity and learns that she’s the one who has been calling the monsters.

At the end of Spellcaster, Logan says something that hints at a coming change to his and Paisley’s relationship. That change hits hard and fast in Night Witch and makes Logan down bad for Paisley. If you’re a fan of the ‘touch her and die’ and possessive tropes, Night Witch delivers tenfold.

Eve has a laidback and modern writing style. This style of writing isn’t for everyone and that is abundantly obvious in the reviews for Spellcaster.

As mentioned previously, Logan and Paisley’s relationship changes dramatically in Night Witch. Their interactions are intense and all-consuming.

Spice level: 🌶️🌶️🌶️

The reason I rated the novel four stars instead of five is because of the quick resolution and lack of worldbuilding.

Without going into spoilers, there are two problems the characters have to deal with before the end of the novel. Problem 1 is dealt with quickly and efficiently despite the characters being told how difficult the problem will be to solve.

Night Witch has an explosive ending that I enjoyed, but it could have been stronger with more worldbuilding. Problem 2’s resolution feels like it comes out of nowhere, largely because Paisley has to put in very little cognitive effort as the resolution is given to her.

Overall, Night Witch is a fast-paced, trope-filled conclusion that kept me so engaged I nearly read it in one sitting. Despite some shortcomings in worldbuilding and the rushed resolutions, it’s an addictive and enjoyable read that will especially satisfy fans of intense romance and high-stakes magic.

I should be sleeping, but instead I stayed up way past my bedtime because I could not put Night Witch down…obsessed is an understatement and I seriously didn’t think I could love Paisley, Logan, their world, the fabulous side characters and the story more than I already did, but boy was I wrong!!!! So so good!!!! Will write more when I’ve had a chance to get some sleep, but the stakes are seriously high in this one, the spice is off the charts, and if you thought you liked Logan as Paisley’s love interest in Spellcaster, you’ll love him even more in this one. ;)
