Wow, this third installment by the indie author collective focuses on the spectral world. The chill you can't explain, the voice you heard when you're all alone. The feeling of being watched when no one is around. These eerie tales are cautionary by nature, sometimes you have to learn from another's mistake. Whether you recognize the presence or not, take heed, not all phantoms are the kind Casper version you grew up watching.

"Voice Box" is a hilarious, heartfelt and sexy journey that explores the evolving relationship between Tori (a living woman) and Sean (a ghost). From the very beginning, the story pulls you in with its humor, charm, and emotional depth. I found myself smiling constantly as I read. The chemistry between Tori and Sean is truly electric. Their banter, tension, and tender moments build beautifully throughout the story, giving you that warm, fluttery feeling in your tummy—and even making you blush. The “touch her and you die” energy? Absolutely chef’s kiss. It had me grinning and fully invested in their dynamic. One of my favorite quotes has to be: “The only falling that is going to happen in this room, will be me falling even more into obsession over you.” That line had my jaw on the floor—in the best way. The emotional highs and lows are perfectly balanced, and the story keeps you hooked with every twist and turn. The ending was absolutely everything. It was surprising, satisfying, and full of heart. It is a beautifully written, emotionally rich story that made me laugh and swoon. I loved it and would happily dive into this world again.

"A Ghostly Canticle" is a hauntingly beautiful reimagining that takes A Christmas Carol in a darker, more powerful direction. Following Timothy Cratchit and heiress Adelaide Ainsley, the story explores themes of guilt, legacy, and justice with a fresh and eerie twist. The idea of the wealthy being haunted is both chilling and strangely satisfying. The writing is rich with historical detail and atmosphere, immersing you in the era while delivering a beautiful ghost story. Adelaide is a standout—strong, intelligent, and quite independent for that time period. Her interactions with Timothy are layered and unexpected, especially given the strange circumstances they find themselves in. The duality of light and darkness is beautifully balanced and their team work is impressive. While the story leans into the eerie and unsettling, there’s also a thread of light and justice woven throughout. The ending is powerful, emotional, and left a lasting impression. This is a gorgeously written tale that offers a fresh perspective on a classic—and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

"HIVE" is a fascinating and chilling exploration of AI’s ever increasing role in everyday life, and how far society has come in wielding that power. The story dives deep into the legacy of Jonsey, whose influence shaped the path for Sri’s generation, and it’s mind-blowing to see how that evolution unfolds. It really puts into perspective the technological advancements we now take for granted, and hold at our fingertips everyday. The eerie consequences that may come with them are definitely something to be concerned with. As the story progresses, an unsettling atmosphere begins to creep in—you can practically feel the cold seeping from the pages. The tension builds slowly, and the mystery keeps you guessing, pushing you to form your own theories and conclusions. It’s the kind of story that lingers in your thoughts, making you question what’s real and what could be terrifyingly possible. The writing is immersive and sharp, with a depth that makes every twist hit harder. The full-circle moment at the end? Absolutely brilliant. Everything clicks into place in a way that’s both shocking and satisfying. It’s intense, eerie, and disturbingly lifelike—making the story feel not just speculative, but hauntingly plausible. It is a very well written story and is truly unsettling. But loved none the less!

"Playground 35" is eerie, disturbing, and utterly captivating from the very first page. The story immediately sets a chilling tone, and as it unfolds, you can’t help but feel a deep sense of unease—especially for the children caught in its unsettling purgatory. It had me completely shook at times, with moments that were both horrifying and emotionally intense. As the number of children rises, so does your heart rate. The tension builds steadily, and you find yourself asking question after question: Who is this mysterious girl? Why is she different? How did these children get here? The way the main girl is described in greater detail than the other children adds to the mystery and makes you feel just as curious, and suspicious as the characters themselves. The story takes a shocking turn that flips everything on its head. It’s confusing in the best way, keeping you on edge and constantly guessing. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, something happens that makes you say, “Oh crap, things just got real.” The ending? Absolutely wild and unpredictable. It’s a twist that left me stunned and scrambling to piece everything together.

"Waiting For You" is a deeply emotional and beautifully written story that grips you from the very first page. The disclaimer at the beginning is absolutely right—this is a story that begs for a reread. The opening is both heart-stopping and heartbreaking, and I found myself in tears almost immediately. The raw emotion radiating from the pages is impossible to ignore—it pulls you in and doesn’t let go. Through flashbacks, we’re given a glimpse into the once joyful, love-filled life of Lauren and Eden. These moments are tender and sensual, filled with warmth and intimacy, and they stand in stark contrast to the pain and emptiness of the present. The emotional shift is powerful, and it makes the story all the more impactful. The writing is immersive and evocative, and the way the author balances heartbreak with glimpses of happiness is masterful. You feel every ache, every longing, and every moment of connection. The ending absolutely shattered me—it was intense, unexpected, and left me reeling. Yet, it was also beautifully done.

"New Girl" is eerie, intense, and completely gripping from the first page. Raven’s tough exterior and the unsettling atmosphere immediately pull you in, and the mystery builds fast. As the story progresses all I have to say is—holy hell. It’s wild, unexpected, and well written. The chemistry between Raven and Jenny is electric, with tension that builds until it practically sizzles. One moment you’re blushing, the next you’re holding your breath and completely caught off guard. Just when you think you’ve figured it out, the story takes a sharp, jaw-dropping turn. For a short story, it packs a serious punch— it is both creepy and emotional.

"Basement Dweller" is a truly chilling read that had goosebumps crawling across my skin from start to finish. From the first page my guard went up, the hair on the back of my neck stood and my heart rate increased. The atmosphere is thick with dread, horror and terror. The author’s vivid descriptions made the fear feel very real and absolutely terrifying. I could feel the emotions pouring off the page, and the tension never let up. The paranormal elements are spot on, creepy, unsettling, and executed perfectly. The blond-haired boy and the eerie events surrounding him had me clutching my blanket and glancing over my shoulder. I love horror and paranormal stories, and while they rarely get under my skin, this one absolutely did. This story very much affected me. The close encounters, the basement setting, and the mysterious child all combined into something that seriously creeped me out—and I loved every second of it. This story had one of the biggest emotional impacts on me, and I was completely hooked. It’s haunting, immersive, and masterfully written. I love love LOVED it. I highly suggest reading this story.

"The Red Barn" is a deeply unsettling and captivating story that immediately gives you a creepy gut feeling. It is told through dual perspectives—Cleo and Ruby—it masterfully builds tension and mystery with every page. Cleo sees a reflection of her past in Ruby, while Ruby herself is independent, strong, and undeniably magnetic. Their dynamic is layered and emotionally charged, adding depth to the eerie atmosphere. The Red Barn itself is the heart of the story, and its dark history unfolds in chilling detail. As the narrative progresses, you can feel the dread intensify. Ruby’s aura is haunting, and through Cleo’s inner thoughts, you sense something is very wrong. Ruby’s POV begins to answer the questions swirling in your mind, but each answer only leads to more twists. The writing is immersive and vivid—so much so that I felt like I was there, experiencing the horrors firsthand. The descriptions of the barn and the trauma Ruby’s wife Sammy endured are gut-wrenching and straight out of a nightmare. At times, I felt uncomfortable and horrified, but completely absorbed at the same time. This story is a masterclass in tension and atmosphere. Every page is a revelation. The ending was absolutely haunting. It left me stunned and. I’d love to see this story expanded into a full series. It’s creepy, intense, and unforgettable.

"Fight Me to Death" throws you straight into chaos from the very first scene—and it never lets up. This story is a powerful blend of love, revenge, justice, and retribution, with a touch of the supernatural that adds even more intensity. Tanya’s POV is heartbreaking; her pain and the reasons behind her actions are gut-wrenching. You feel every ounce of her struggle, and the hurt is incredible. Anna’s perspective offers a different kind of heartbreak—caught in a cruel situation, bullied and broken, yet still trying to hold on. Both girls are trapped by forces beyond their control, and the tension between them is palpable. You can feel the longing, the tension, and the emotional weight pressing down on them. Adan’s POV adds another layer of sorrow and complexity, making the story even more emotionally rich. As the plot unfolds, it takes a dramatic, almost psychotic turn toward justice—and it’s powerful. The retribution is fierce, and while it’s unsettling, it’s also deeply satisfying. This story is wild, emotional, and incredibly well written. It’s packed with raw intensity and moments that left me completely shaken. I’m still reeling from the ending. Just… wow. I’m still reeling.

"The Night Museum" is a spine-tingling, immersive tale that follows Chester, an honestly adorable character who lands a nightshift job at a mysterious museum. From the start, the story plays with the line between belief and skepticism in the supernatural—and it does so brilliantly. The creepy vibe builds fast, and the eerie artifacts scattered throughout the museum only add to the unsettling atmosphere. Honestly, I thought that if it were real I wanted to visit this museum… until things got real spooky. The spook factor is legitimately real. A giggle echoing through your house when you’re alone? Nope. No thank you. My heart rate spiked more times than I can count, and the fear practically leaked off the pages. Goosebumps? A constant. The idea of being alone in that museum, with strange voices and unexplained phenomena, is absolutely terrifying. Chester’s friendship with Alex adds a layer of warmth and emotional depth to the story. Alex’s protective nature and concern for Chester are heartwarming, and watching their relationship grow amidst the chaos is one of the story’s highlights. The writing is vivid and atmospheric, and the pacing keeps you hooked. There were definitely some “oh shit” moments that had me wide-eyed and fully invested. The ending left a lingering sense of unease but one I would totally go back to.

"Glitch" is a wild, paranormal thrill ride that blends eerie mystery, emotional depth, and electrifying tension. From the start, the story pulls you into a world that feels like it’s straight out of a movie—creepy landscapes, unsettling events, and a building that practically breathes with secrets. The descriptions are vivid and immersive, and the atmosphere is thick with suspense. Delilah and Rider’s partnership is fascinating, filled with tension and layered emotion. You can feel the fear creeping in as the story unfolds—there were moments that made me shiver and genuinely worry for Delilah. The paranormal elements are intense, and the anxiety they stir is real. Then there’s Glitch—his side of the story is chaotic, erotic, and deeply compelling. The energy between him and Delilah is magnetic, almost overwhelming in its intensity. Their connection is raw, violent, and strangely satisfying. The story constantly shifts between fear and desire, keeping you on edge and fully invested. As the mystery deepens, you’re left asking: what really happened here? Every page adds another layer of intrigue. The ending left me breathless, wanting more, and desperate to know what comes next. Glitch is creepy, captivating, and absolutely unforgettable. All that’s left at the end is the want more and yearning to know what happens next.

"The Séance Club" is a bone-chilling, atmospheric tale that follows a group of school kids in the present day, each with their own motives—some craving attention and fame, others sensing something isn’t quite right. From the very beginning, the story builds an eerie tension that creeps under your skin and never lets go. The unease grows with every chapter, and the mystery surrounding what the séance brought through and the backstory is absolutely gripping. The story immerses you in the emotional and psychological tale. The obsession with views and fame adds a disturbing layer of realism, and the paranormal elements are executed with a genuine creep factor that had me shivering and even looking over my shoulder. There were moments that made my pulse spike and my body tense—I was honestly shook, and I loved it. The writing is vivid and immersive, with descriptions that make the fear feel tangible. The idea of being unseen and forgotten takes on a whole new meaning here, and it hit me harder than I expected. And made my fear of that ten times worse. The relationship dynamics, the growing dread, and the slow unraveling of truth kept me glued to the page. The ending left a chill in my bones—haunting, unresolved, and deeply satisfying in the most terrifying way. I need a sequel. This story is brilliantly written, emotionally intense, and genuinely scary. I loved every minute of it.

"Under the Eternity Tree" follows Maggie, a girl who trusts history more than the paranormal—until she gets a lesson in both. Though brief, this story is chilling, unsettling, and deeply atmospheric. You feel trapped right alongside Maggie, and the tension never lets up. A strong, eerie piece that wraps up the collection perfectly.

Paranormal Playground, Seasons of the Witch, Covenant of Beasts

~Indie Author Collective, October Anthology

Indie Author Collective is proud to present their October Anthology – three separate novels, twenty masterful authors, and thirty-one spine-chilling stories – that present paranormal unknowns, witchy hijinks, and beastly creatures. This anthology collection is a true collection of stories that will chill you to the bone, keep you under its spell, and make you question where the true beasts reside.

Authors included in the three-part anthology are: Kinsyn Rhee, Brooke Eisen, Grace Vice, Ellen Winter, Amity Grey, Aspen J. Sterling, Kestrel Martin, A. Miri, RedNight, Jennie Hedges, Kisa Rayen, Denise Ernst, Selina Rossman, Tamsin Hawthorn, Andra Sable, Zamina Solera, Gareth Ian Davies, Twyla Menezes, Isaac Lotharus, and Libby James.

These tales range from skin-crawling dread to raw, compassionate intimacy, spell-binding suspense, and haunting tension, where mystery takes a deep hold and refusing to let go. Shifting perspectives reveal ghosts with heart, witches pulsing with dark temptation, and beasts who are sometimes achingly human - forcing readers to confront their own hidden vulnerabilities to relate to stories from different perspectives.

Cinematic prose drags you into visceral worlds where love and terror collide, leaving you breathless, unsettled, and questioning the ghosts, witches, and beasts sometimes beyond our imagination.

I was honored that the Indie Author Collective allowed me to Alpha/Beta/ARC all three novels in the October Anthology: Paranormal Playground, Seasons of the Witch, and Covenant of Beasts. As always, all opinions and reviews are of my own volition. I have not been promised any compensation, current or future, by an of the authors, publisher, or PR group for a fair and honest review.

Step into the playground. The ghosts are waiting… and they brought friends.

Paranormal Playground is Halloween candy for the weird kids ....a chaotic, creepy, and oddly heartfelt anthology where every story dares you to peek behind the curtain (or under the bed). You’ve got Voice Box whispering things you probably shouldn’t repeat, HIVE buzzing with paranoia, and Playground35 proving recess is not for the faint of heart.

Waiting for You? Creepy. New Girl? Gives transfer-student horror a whole new meaning. Basement Dweller made me want to sleep with the lights on, while The Red Barn reminded me that farm life is never peaceful in fiction. Then you’ve got A Ghostly Canticle .... beautiful and haunting ...and Fight Me to Death, which sounds like a threat but reads like a fever dream. The Night Museum and Glitch twist reality just enough to make you side-eye your reflection, and The Seance Club? Yeah, they should’ve stopped at hello. Under the Eternity Tree ties it all together with the kind of melancholy only great ghost stories leave behind.

Each tale hits a different flavor of spooky....some cinematic, some deeply weird, all completely entertaining. If you love anthologies, that are haunted and spooky and maybe strange. Here you go!

I received this book as an ARC and all opinions are my own - this is not a paid review. No spoilers.

Paranormal Playground is a really fun and unique read. I loved that I never knew what was coming as the theme (paranormal) is so vast and the authors definitely took liberties in exploring every nook and cranny of the paranormal world.

It really has everything. Sexy, spooky, sometimes heartcrushingly sad and other times completely hilarious. A few stories had me scratching my head because I didn’t quite understand what was happening or couldn’t imagine the physical movements of the characters but that could be more a personal inability than a slight on the author.

Standout favourite stories for me were Waiting For You by Red Night, A Ghostly Canticle by Tamsin Hawthorn and The Red Barn by Ellen Winter.

Playground 35 by Kestrel Martin gave me the creepiest creeps and Glitch had me squirming in my seat!

Overall, a very fun and easy read.

Paranormal Playground was my second read of the Indie Author Collective October Anthology Trilogy. this trilogy has a widely eclectic mix of horror and dark themes, with tropes and genres for everyone who's into October vibes

this ghostly collection has some seriously spectacular scary stories, and even though there were a few that weren't to my taste as was the same in Covenant of Beasts, i really loved a lot of it

i was unfortunately a bit disappointed that one of the stories does include a HP reference, when in this political climate does come across as an unfavourable view on human rights.

the stories i truly adored;
>Voice Box
>Playground 35
>A Ghostly Canticle
>The Seance Club
>The Red Barn
>Eternity Tree

i received an advance review copy for free, and i am leaving this review voluntarily.

Ooh, this was a good one. Pretty sure it was my favorite of the 3!
There’s chaos. There’s creepiness. It makes you think about whether you really heard that whisper in the dark or that scratching on the wall while you were halfway asleep.
Ghosts? Check.
Creepy voices? Check.
Whispers? Check.
Ouija boards? Check. A little bit of it all. Some spice sprinkled in too 🫣 I recommend the entire anthology for any curious eyes 👀

This anthology had me left with mixed thoughts. Some stories, like A Ghostly Canticle, The Red Barn, Waiting For You, The Night Museum, and Voice Box were chef's kiss. A few I had to roll my eyes at and groan. For the most part it was a feeling of dissatisfaction; the stories are supposed to be quick, but as a reader some felt incomplete and there was no real payoff. There was one amongst the group that was completely cringe, but I think maybe I'll leave off naming it just in case it might deter others from picking up the book completely. Over all these authors deserve to have their stories read and I am glad I was able to set some time aside for the chills!

These stories all have to do with ghosts and represent such a wide variety of ideas around the subject that I was pleasantly surprised. No repeats, if you will.
