Snake on a Red Velvet Throne: and Other Stories

Rate this book
Snake on a Red Velvet Throne is a powerful blend of short story, memoir, and novella that examines what it means to survive the grip of another’s control.

In “Umbilical” a man trapped in a psychological stranglehold must decide if what he believes is real or imagined.

A woman shakes loose from her obsession with a charismatic older man in “A Lion’s Grace,” uncovering not only the truth about him but also about herself.

In “The Door” a young social worker dares to confront the intimidating boss who may be part of a murder cover-up.

Alongside these are five other unforgettable stories that expose the many faces of emotional abuse and what it takes to break free.

Snake on A Red Velvet Throne is a collection of short stories and a novella written by a woman who is either going blind or almost blind. She used special technology to write them. She wrote in the forward that it took a lot of patience to learn how to use it. I know about the aid that she is using and it is very expensive. I hope that it will become more user-friendly and affordable in the future.

I don’t usually read short stories because I get attached to the main character and then poof they are gone. But each one of them is a joy. Now reading the novella about a woman who was neglected and abused in childhood and is a social worker in an institution for abused children. Her training was very interesting, and I think it could help abused children not to blame themselves for it, stand up for themselves, and be more resilient. I am loving this book.
