To walk the earth she must feed her hollow soul.

Some of the most beautiful people in the world are not human. They have no soul, feel no emotion and are pure evil. You can tell by the color of their dark, dead eyes. Samuel Glaus knows this. He is after all the son of a human mother and soulless father. He is, half human and a hunter of the soulless. He is also in love with one who cannot love him back.

Thalya is a soulless creature, but unlike others of her kind, she does not kill to feed her hollow soul. She hungers only for emotion and above all she hungers for Samuel’s love. Her enemy. Her redemption. And she’s willing to kill for it.

Adult situations. Violence. Must be 18+

Angel Rising by LaVerne Thompson
Redemption series #1. Vampire paranormal romance.
Thalya survives on pulling depression and sorrow from people. She does not believe that she needs to harm her meal source. But she is lonely having been on her own for many years. Meeting Samuel changes her life in multiple ways.

A somewhat unique take on vampires. A twist them turns it more to the traditional but a second brings in a whole new dimension.
I did not care for the ending. Maybe because it’s a series. Maybe it just wasn’t what I expected.

This is not my normal book of choice but wow. I listened on audible and was instantly pulled into the story of Thalya and Samual. It was faced and full of surprising twists. The idea of redemption for the soulless, angels from heaven, was quite interesting. Samual, is a hunter, half human/half soulless who fell in love with Thalya. There was some great banter and some very interesting side characters. The romance was slow, at times sweet and at times very, very sexy. I'm definitely looking forward to book 2.

this was an audible listen which i did enjoy

4.50 Stars. (BW/WM). An audible escape audiobook with narration by Ron Herczig. Paranormal romance where “The Hunter gets captured by the game.” The hero, Samuel Glaus is a hybrid, he is 50% human, thanks to his mother and his soul is in tack, Samuel is also 50% soulless, fallen angel or vampire, thanks to his soulless father which gives him added strength, ageless longevity and other abilities above those od humankind; but not as formidable as fallen angels. Samuel heads a group of men who hunt and kill the soulless and who are of the opinion that the soulless prey on defenseless humans. One night while socializing with his Hunter crew, Samuel encounters the heroine, Thalya, asoulless female to lures and feeds from his beloved nephew, Carl, she consumes his depression without taking is blood or injuring him in any way. This is an interesting and unique take on fallen angels as having behavior mirroring vampires; as it turns out, these two, Samuel, a 600 year old leader of soulless hunters and Thalya, an even older soulless or fallen angel, fall in love and change each other’s lives. In the end, they marry, protect mankind, protect Wilhelmina and her sister who chronicle events regarding the soulless and the human hunters.

We read this book for episode 91 of our podcast. Samuel is an immortal hunter, offspring of a human mother and soulless father. He has devoted his life to hunting down the soulless who harm and feed on humans. That is, until he meets Thalya, a soulless woman with the power to capture his heart. This is a true enemies to lovers story. Once Thalya meets Samuel she realizes that what she thinks she knows about her and the other soulless is limited and inaccurate. As the two work together to find out what is going on they are also drawn to each other in inexplicable ways. Both try to fight their attraction and deny the feelings but there is more to their love than they can fight. Can their love be an offer of redemption for the soulless? The teasing scenes of intimacy that keep getting cut short really heighten the sexual tension for the readers as well as the characters. In the end, super unusual and interesting story, great character development, squishy sex scenes! This was a fun book! For more of our thoughts, listen to episode 91 of Shhh We’re Reading Dirty Books found on any podcast platform!

The blurb caught my attention, and the story kept me entertained until the very last page. The undead/vampire/soulless concept went in a direction I had never seen before. I love it when that happens. The romance between Samuel and Thalya developed at a more subtle pace, which I appreciated. It was the core of the story, yes ... but it allowed for things much bigger than themselves. There were great mythos and world building, betrayal and surprise, and even some fun one-liners for comic relief.

I listened to the audiobook at 1.5x via Audible ... which is around the normal speed for me since I find the 1x speed to be slower than conversational speed ... however, even then, some of the character voices the narrator chose were unpleasant. I'm giving the overall story a 5 for it's content and entertainment value, but the narration would get a 3. I'm still glad I listened to it though, because there were some really great moments in the performance that I don't think I would have been able to recreate in my head had I read it for myself.

I love when reading a book you have expectations on what your getting....then the more you delve into it your reading something completely different. This is one of those books it's really different than your typical vampire story. Vampires are soulless but Samuel is different. Thalya is a vampire and she's different too. She feeds but on emotions. These 2 characters are enemies but can they look past it all? Will Thalya get what she desperately needs from Samuel? Mmm great book and look forward to reading more!

Very intriguing twist on the paranormal world. LaVerne Thompson introduces us to the world of the soulless, who feed off human emotions, and the hunters, a small group of humans who consider them to be murdering, blood-sucking vampires. Samuel Glaus is a master hunter of the soulless. He, himself, is half-breed, which is not supposed to be possible. Thalya is a soulless who feeds on depression, draining her "providers" of the emotion and leaving them happier for it. She is an "olden", one of few, and, as such, a very old and powerful being. Setting his nephew, Karl, up as bait, Samuel and the other hunters attempt to trap a soulless attracted to Karl's depression. Thalya going to feed that night is drawn towards Karl because of his depression and, with a kiss, sucks out this emotion and leaves him asleep on the park bench, having to run when the hunters move in. The hunters can't believe Karl is still alive. Alone, Samuel tracks down Thalya and is surprised to learn that not all soulless are evil, nor do they need to take emotions through blood. Some just choose to do so, because it provides an enhanced feeding and they manipulate human emotions to suit their needs. Samuel has always believed the hunters should not kill anyone until their evil intent is proven, having seen too many humans butchered over the centuries. Unfortunately, not all of the hunter groups agree with this and, to them, all soulless should be killed. While Samuel and Thalya attempt to find answers to the increase in soulless killings, an immense plot is uncovered, and an enemy from Samuel's past has targeted him. They both are introduced to interesting new information that, instead of clearing everything up, muddies the waters even more, leaving more answers to search for. With a strong cast of secondary characters....I loved, loved, loved Adam!...Angel Rising is a well-written novel, with strong world-building, lots of action, multiple threads to unravel, intense sexual attraction, hot sex, and....well, what more do we want? I am definitely looking forward to book 2 in this series.

I received a copy of this book from the author in exchange for an honest review.

This book was Amazing! I couldn't put it down for a second! LaVerne's mind is absolutely brilliant and with the twists and turns in this one, you won't sit sill at all! I was amazed by everything in the book, right from the characters to the scenes. LaVerne sets a scene with brilliance and flare, I was on the edge of my seat to see what she would come up with next with the turn of the page.

The dynamics between Samual and Thalya were amazing! you could literally feel them sizzle right off the page! They fought really well together and I would love to see what the future brings for them and all of Thalya's kind. Adam was a very interesting character and I loved the scene where he played his music. I felt like I was right there in the room with Samual and Thalya, Adam was such a strong and commanding person that even while drawing you in he still warned you away as well.

The interesting thing about the book was the bad guys were sort of good guys but had potential to be bad or good depending on which way they decided to go with their lives. Which in a way is like everyone else, you choose every day where your going to go in life and you have to choose to take it in a positive light or not. Thalya's people where no different but with superpowers....lol....which made their decisions all the more important.

LaVerne Thompson is a wonderful and an amazing author and I loved this story! I can't wait to see what LaVerne comes up with for these characters next!

Overall I found that this was a breath of fresh air. Sometimes paranormal stories can get muddled together with the same concepts but I felt this one was completely orginal. The only downside I had was that it did take me a moment to get into the story. There was a lot of information given in the begining but once our female MC came into the story I was hooked. I found her very interesting as I love a strong female character. She had her own personality and while she grew throughout the story I don't feel like she had to lose herself completely for her happy ending. The details in the describtions made me feel like I was right there alongside the characters. Enjoyed the tension between our two MC's as well, as I'm a sucker for falling in love with the one person your supposed to hate. I enjoyed this novel and would recommend this to anyone who enjoys paranormal and would like a break from the typical vampire/witch/werewolf stories.

~~This audiobook was provided by the author, narrator, or publisher at no cost in exchange for an unbiased review courtesy of AudiobookBlast dot com~~

This was an excellent book. It was full of action, romance, and of course skin on skin time ;) It most definitely isn't the usual blood-sucking vamps from hell or an uber romantic vamp novel (been though I love those too). Thalya and Samuel were well written and I loved the fact that even though they were opposites, their differences made them perfect for each other. I do wish that more was said about how Chris and Cain were caught and dealt with though. Just knowing that they were caught just wasn't as satisfying without knowing the how.

All in all, I enjoyed this story. The narrator was pretty good and allowed the story to flow well and draw me in.

If you like paranormal this book is definitely for you! Soulless beings walk the earth stealing emotions from humans. Samuel Glaus hunts them even though his father was one of them. When he meets Thalya he is shocked to learn not all soulless kill when they take emotions but the biggest shock comes when he can't get her out of his head or his heart.

I loved the world Ms. Thompson created. Her writing is wonderful. I loved Samuel right away, smart, caring and most importantly alpha. Then came Thalya and she blew me away. I love a smart, sassy woman who kicks ass. Put the two of them together and they were HOT! The secondary characters were just as great. I am in love with Adam and Wilhelmina and her sisters could have their own series.

I can't wait to read book 2!!!

What an intriguing twist on the paranormal world. Welcome to the world of the soulless and the hunters, who consider them to be murdering, blood-sucking vampires. This is an action with intense sexual attraction.

Samuel Glaus is a master hunter of the soulless. Thalya is a soulless who is a very old and powerful being. When Samuel tracks down Thalya and is surprised to learn that not all soulless are evil. It changes the way Samuel and Thalya thinks of the hunters and the soulless.

The cast of characters was very strong. I just love a strong female character with her own personality who can kick ass.

So good. There are so many books, movies and television shows on the "undead", whether it is vampires, demons and this case soulless and the description of the eyes seems to be a recurring theme, dead black eyes where you need to look away. Loved Samuel, Thayla and Adam. The Epilogue blew me away. Looking forward to Book 2, Devlin and Eva's story. Hope Ray gets a book as well and of course want to read about Adam. Adam will have to appear in each book, how can he not. This could definitely be a movie.

Awesome Read!

I so Loved this book! I think that everyone that reads this will enjoy it. I really enjoyed the main characters Samuel and Thayla. Ms. Laverne, I cannot wait for PArt 2 to come out. I'm anxious to see what happens to that sick Chris! He needs to be stopped fast! It will do him justice if the Soulless turned on him. I hope to read more of Samuel and Thayla in part 2 along with Dev and Evangeline!!! Great job! I will recommend this book to everyone including my book club, Real Divas Read Bookclub 1/28/12!

This was AMAZING. First time reader of LaVerne and I was swept away. When I thought the book would end it kept going and got better with every turn. Writing an emotionless character seemed impossible to me. This was perfect. I am so glad I found this author after the new year. I have a feeling she will become one of my favorites.
