**Read 3.5 STARS!**

This thrilling but predictable Scottish police procedure is the 6th volume of the great "DCI Lomond" series.

Storytelling is very good, all characters come splendidly to life in this tale about police corruption, a dominating gangster, trying to frame someone else for their misdemeanours, no matter the consequences.

The book does need some serious editing, for it has quite some mistakes, and there are also quite some faults in police officers names and ranks at various parts of this book, so its better not to rush because its not about quantity but about the quality of the books, and in my honest view its predecessor "The Long Dark and this "The Ferryman" should have been one great book altogether.

This crime story continues after "The Long Dark, nickname for DCI Lomond, and the revelation of the new Ferryman and thus successor of former DCI Beattie, until the ultimate showdown at he end.

In a race against time DCI Lomond has to clear his name and reputation against the combined effort of gangster criminal Frank Gormley and the corrupt Detective Superintendent Linda Boyle, but first DCI Lomond has to overcome some setbacks before finally the rightful results will come his and his team's way in the end, after all that has happened domestically and professionally in the meantime.

Highly recommended, for this is another satisfactory addition to this otherwise excellent series, I would preferred "The Long Dark and "The Ferryman" in one solid novel combined, and that's why I like to call this latest episode: "A Final Ferocious Ferryman Showdown"!

Quite possibly the best in the DCI Lomond series to date.
While investigating the shooting of a supermarket worker in the store car park,DCI Lomond and his team already seem to think something smells a rat. Then some devastating evidence changes everything. This was fast paced and kept me on the edge of my seat..if you haven't read any of this books series, I strongly suggest you do. Best thing is, the next one is out next week!!!

Why am I reading book 6 in a series, you might ask? Well, we were supposed to read a book called The Ferryman in book club, but someone had accidentally read this book instead of the assigned reading. So therefore, I'll read this one to compare.

So apparently Lomond has been solving crimes all this time, and we're thick in the middle of another big crime taking place. After a shootout at a grocery store leaves a bunch of people dead, police are scrambling to find the gunmen. But the true motive here was to plant evidence for the Ferryman, a mole who works deep within the police force in Scotland. And that evidence points to our hero, Lomond himself. Will Lomond be able to get out of this predicament? Or has he finally met his match?

Obviously, I'm a bit biased since I'm plopping myself right in the middle of the series. Sure, I don't get the large character building arcs of everyone involved here, but the book still manages to do a decent job of allowing me to kinda get to know these characters. The trope of the main character becoming a fugitive and on the run while simultaneously finding the real culprit might be a bit cliched, but at least it delivers on the tense situations and culminates in what appear to be character-shattering events. Like, characters die who seemed to be important, and revelations are made that will change the world of these characters from now on.

A true page turner - brilliant

I found myself relishing the storyline, turning the pages so quickly, whilst at the same time taking breaks to savour the book. I’d decided to re-read the final few chapters of book 5 which helped refresh my memory of this wonderful series to date. Whilst it wasn’t essential, the storyline elaborated sufficiently on key sequences of events to this point. You can’t help but to be captivated by the characters and drawn into how events unfold. This would make an excellent TV series akin to Line of Duty. Now I’m intrigued about book 7, given that I thought The Ferryman would be the last in the series. Ah well, I’ll have to wait to find out!

Wow, what a great read this was. We know who The Ferryman is since events in the last book but this was a cracking thrill of a read as Lomond tries extreme measures to bring things out into the open. His poor team though are left a bit in the lurch when Lomond finds himself a fugitive.

There were so many twists throughout the story that at one stage, I was questioning myself. I found myself reading at a frenetic pace as things progressed to a fitting finale. It seems ages since the last book came out but this was well worth the wait. I would give it more stars if I could.

Not too sure what expletives to use but I'll begin with OMG and WTF !!. If you have read the other books in this series ( and I highly recommend that you do ) then you know who the "baddies" are or so you think. By a quarter of the way through there is a major WOW moment with plenty more to come so that as the reader you begin to question everybody and what side they might be on...and I mean everybody! Brilliant story and a great page turner with plenty of twist in it . Five star plus. Roll on book 7 !!

Oh my goodness! Just when I thought things couldn’t get any more exciting…..or confusing, this book ticked all the boxes. We knew who the two main ‘baddies’ were, but the ‘red herrings’ really caused a lot of misinterpretation and confusion. This was actually nail biting stuff, with me constantly hoping and praying that certain ‘suspects’ really were innocent. Brilliant book. Can’t wait for the next one. 😀

I'm a big fan of DCI Lomond and this story is the best of the lot! So exciting and fast paced, I raced to the end to find out if the baddies got their comeuppance!
This is a great series about a Scottish detective, set in places I'm familiar with as a Scot myself. The plots are well thought out and hold your attention.
I'm happy to hear the next installment will be on Kindle Unlimited at the end of July. It's already on my list.

Audiobook: 3.5 stars. This was my second in a row of DCI Lomond detective novels in a month. This one had a better solid story and the mystery of who was the ferryman was revealed in the former novel but how was the team going to nail them and bring justice.
