I know that when it comes to the genre of dark romance, some author’s interpret that to mean that one character has to treat another character like shit. To me that ISN’T dark romance, that’s manipulation and abuse. Which is NOT my cup of tea.
Unfortunately, that’s what this book was filled with. I wasn’t rooting for the main characters because the entire time the main male character was being emotionally & mentally manipulative. I wasn’t rooting for them to get together or have a happy ending. In fact I was rooting for Viper to be sent off on a mission and killed. He wasn’t “morally grey” as the book suggested--he was asshole. There wasn’t anything attractive about him or his behavior nor was he a dom in any sense. The whole book made me uncomfy because again to me that is NOT romance by any stretch of the word.
