Sparks fly between a headstrong woman and a jaded veterinarian working together to save a Jack Russell terrier rescue.
Devastated by her grandmother’s untimely death a month before Christmas, ambitious big-city gal Willow Croft plans to take her inheritance and run from North Carolina to the West Coast. However, the terms of the will require Willow to live and work at Gigi’s Jack Russell terrier rescue, Second Chance Jacks, for three months—and she must care for the adorable dogs alongside Gigi’s step-grandson and fellow heir, handsome but wounded widowed veterinarian Cooper Johnson.
Although Willow is determined to sell her half of Gigi’s estate, Cooper yearns to keep the property and put down roots on the farm for himself and his four-year-old son, Sammy. Unfortunately, Cooper can’t afford to buy the house outright from Willow, so his dream of homeownership will slip through his fingers if he can’t convince her to stay. Headstrong Willow and jaded Cooper feel entrapped by Gigi’s unexpected stipulations, but when romantic embers begin to burn, they realize that Gigi might have envisioned more for them than the lonely paths they’ve set themselves on.

What a sweet story. I couldn’t put it down once I started. Great characters will pull you in, especially four year old Sammy. He’s adorable!
Willow and Cooper are both hurt and looking for peace. But then they clash over Gigi’s dog rescue, since they both inherited it. I really liked both of them and was rooting for them to work things out. Together. Could there be romance between them?
Author Heidi Main did a wonderful job of describing the settings for us; I was there, I’m sure. She gave life to the terriers, and gave the book a Christmasy feel. I can’t wait for book 2!
