Yet our culture often ignores the vast (often silent) majority of workers who are aiming at just moderate success. These are the workers who aspire to live an interesting life without a career as its central driving force, with a healthy work-life balance and some financial security. Workers who work reasonably hard and want to make their money without sacrificing their health, principles or sanity. Workers who cringe at the mediocrity, politics and theatrics of the modern workplace, but understand that, unfortunately, they’re all the unfortunate price they have to pay to stay employed. This book is for them. It’s also for anyone who wants more perspective to despise their job less, and for anyone who is burning out on workplace madness, or reaching the overdue conclusion that their job will (shockingly!) not satisfy all of their innermost desires.
If you are looking for “career tips” in the classic sense, you will not find them here. These are not recommendations or tricks for grinding harder, making more money, or climbing the ladder faster.
