EVERY ROSE HAS ITS THORNS. Hidden in a tiny cottage away from the ordinary existence of Cerulean’s citizens, Aural lived a simple life with her father in Sabean Woods. When he is struck by a serious illness, that ordinary life suddenly became extraordinary.
In search of a physician, Aural breaks her promise never to leave the woods. When her path crosses with a Mystic, the manipulative Duchess, and the Prince of Cerulean, Aural realizes something beyond her simple quest to help her dying father has mapped out her journey.
An ancient legend about a brotherly rivalry that resulted in tragedy stirs up the Fates guarding Cerulean. If the Cerulean Rose doesn’t bloom again, the kingdom is destined to perish.
A wild path filled with romance, mystery, and intrigue shapes Aural’s heart in ways she could not have imagined as she gets sucked into the legend. Would it be enough to restore the foundation of true love that established the kingdom of Cerulean hundreds of years ago? Could a simple girl satisfy the Fates, capture a prince’s heart, overcome a king’s prejudice, and save Cerulean’s Rose?
Cerulean Rose is the first book in The Fates Trilogy. It is a clean fiction, romantasy, fairy tale retelling with closed door, kisses only romance.

I'm always up for a fairytale retelling or a good clean fantasy story, and, with Cerulean Rose, you get both! Honestly, this first book in The Fates Trilogy is a story that I would have enjoyed when I was the YA target age, and I still thought it was entertaining as an adult.
From the start, I was curious how the fairytale retelling would play out. I was quite pleased to see that Demi Griffin wove it as a thread within the story instead of it taking over. There were elements of the familiar fairytale but Cerulean Rose was every inch its own tale.
While the prose did get a tad purple at times, I still found the story to be imaginative and the Cerulean backstory was quite interesting.
I did like both Aural, can I just how much I love that name, and Langlee from the very beginning. They both have enough faults to make them believable, but they are good people who genuinely care about others and eventually each other.
Overall this first book The Fates Trilogy was a good read that I definitely enjoyed enough to read the second book when it releases. Demi Griffin did a decent job with it and I think YA readers etc. will enjoy it....
(I received a copy of this book from the author/publisher. All opinions are entirely my own.)
Aural lives a safe, sheltered life tucked away in the woods, until one day her father falls ill and needs a doctor. The reasons she's been kept hidden gradually become clear, with danger appearing almost the moment she enters the nearest village. Ending up as a serving maid, she searches for some way to get back to her father with aid. But as the interwoven threads of an old legend tighten around Aural and the royal family, they're about to learn whether the Cerulean Rose can really bloom again or the kingdom is doomed...
This was my first time reading a book by this author, so I wasn't sure what to expect. On the whole, I was pleasantly surprised. It wouldn't be one of my top reads of the year, but it was enjoyable and kept me guessing as to what would happen next in terms of the unfolding of the legend. I didn't altogether feel like the 'solution' was convincing in 'fixing' what went wrong initially, but that aside (okay, and maybe ignoring things like a duchess with the name Vitriol), it was nice to watch the prince gradually fall for a girl he was initially convinced was far beneath him and not even interesting. And her willingness to sacrifice because of her love? Yes, that's one thing that makes a book worth reading. I'll be interested to see what the author writes in future.
I received a complimentary copy of this book. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own.
This book is exactly why I love to read. A book I went into fairly blind, but absolutely loved. I fell in love with the characters, the storyline, the setting, the novelty of it. It entertained, transported me to a new world, and made me fall in love with reading once again. And now I wish I could ravel to this land at some point (though maybe when there isn’t possible war on the horizon?).
I don’t have chances to read fantasy often, but when I do I hope for a book like this one. It was just such an engaging, clean, sweet fantasy, with romance sprinkled in. Fantastic, well-rounded, and just…yes.
I’m completely hooked on this story and excited to see where it goes, as it’s the start of the series. It did a great job at setting the scene, and getting you ready for it all. But, at the same time, it wrapped up so well too. I just enjoyed how it unfolded, and though I had a feeling I knew what would happen I enjoyed it through the last sentence.
So, if you’re looking for a new fantasy, I definitely recommend this one. And now I’m anxiously waiting for the next one.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary ebook copy of this novel, received from the Demi Griffin an JustReadTours. However, all thoughts and views reflected are strictly my own opinions.
D.M. Griffin takes readers to new worlds in her release Cerulean Rose, the first book in Ms. Griffin’s The Fates Trilogy! In the Kingdom of Cerulean, a kingdom that sees its protection weakened because of its lack of True Love at the foundation of it’s ruler. On the outskirts of Cerulean, deep in the Sabean Woods, in a tiny cottage, lives a young woman named Aural. Aural has never left the Sabean Woods, but when Aural’s father turns ill she leaves to find a doctor. As Aural enters Cerulean, she encounters a Mystic who gives Aural a stick that the Mystic says is the Cerulean Rose. When Aural is mistaken for a Mystic she ends up in prison and is sold as a maid and then rescued by Prince Langlee of Cerulean. On the verge of turning 21, a ball is being given in Prince Langlee’s honor where he must choose a bride. When he rescues Aural, Prince Langlee’s world is turned upside down. Aural makes Prince Langlee think differently about society and events begin to transpire that show cracks in the Cerulean Kingdom, revealing secrets and truths changing what everyone thought they knew.
I love D.M. Griffin’s Cerulean Rose! I’ve been a big fan of Ms. Griffin’s for a time now and when I heard about The Fates Trilogy I jumped at the chance to read it! I’ve been wanting to read books in the Christian Romantasy Genre for a while now, but I have been nervous to take the leap. When I heard of Cerulean Rose and that Ms. Griffin wrote it I was ready to take the plunge because I knew I would be safe with her as the Author. Even though Cerulean Rose is different from what I am accustomed to reading from Ms. Griffin—the plot, the descriptiveness of the storyline, and the depth of the characters is pure D.M. Griffin! I enjoyed how Ms. Griffin immersed me into the world of the Kingdom of Cerulean. The world Ms. Griffin created is for the most part straightforward. (Any time that I did get confused is all on me because I am new to the genre—but I did find it helpful that Ms. Griffin included helps before the story started that I referenced often to get clarity about the character group.) Sometimes though, I felt some of the scenes went by too fast and wished that they were fleshed out more because it left me with questions. (But none of the questions were too burning, I just wanted all I could get out of the story!) I love how the plot carried different undertones of what I felt were many different fairytales. Beauty and the Beast because of the love of reading that Aural and Prince Langlee share, bits of Rapunzel or Sleeping Beauty due to the forest aspect and for the reason Aural was from the forest, and Cinderella for obvious reasons. (Just read Cerulean Rose!) What I loved most about Cerulean Rose was that it pushed me out of my reading norm and pushed me as a reader in the best way. I love the characters and how I was learning along with them. I cannot wait to see what happens next in The Fates Trilogy to see what is revealed in the Cerulean Kingdom! I highly recommend D.M. Griffin’s Cerulean Rose!
Have you read Cerulean Rose? What did you think of the book?
I would like to thank the Publisher and Celebrate Lit Blogging Tours for giving me a copy of Cerulean Rose to review, for letting me be a part of Cerulean Rose Celebration Tour, and for providing the information needed for this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Cerulean Rose by Demi Griffin is the first book of the author’s new fantasy series, The Fates Trilogy. Well-written, this coming-of-age tale is reminiscent of the fairy tale “Cinderella” with a dash of fantasy thrown in.
The novel tells the tale of Aural, a young woman raised in the seclusion of the Sabean Woods by her father, and Langlee, Prince of Cerulean who is in search of a bride. The paths cross unexpectedly when Aural disregards her father’s common to never leave her forest home in an attempt to save his life. Neither Aural nor Langlee could have foreseen the extraordinary impact her decision would have on their lives and the kingdom as a whole.
The major themes of Cerulean Rose include duty, sacrifice, and love. The premise of the novel—that Cerulean’s Fate-given protection has waned due to a lack of true love in the kingdom since the murder of the kingdom’s first queen—is a unique one, especially since it has resulted in a kingdom that is rotten to its core.
Several memorable quotes include:
“[T]rue healing is often heralded by pain.”
“Love isn’t genuine when it is forced.”
“Every journey begins with a single step.”
“Love, in its truest form, demands sacrifice.”
Aware that Demi Griffin writes Biblical and Christian fantasy novels, I was expecting Cerulean Rose to have elements of the Christian faith woven into the story (even if subtly)—but that was not the case. While there is a religious system of sorts, it is polytheistic and fairly mystical in nature, diverging greatly from biblical beliefs.
Overall, I am not entirely sure if I liked this book. Aural and Langlee’s characters (perhaps as a result of their upbringings?) were not my favorite—I preferred Enris’ character, actually. Additionally, I did not love the novel's divinely-driven foundation of “an eye for an eye,” which definitely made for an unexpected resolution to the Cerulean Rose prophecy at the end of the novel.
While intimacy stops with kissing and there is no language, I only recommend this book for adult or mature teen readers.

Utterly fascinated!! That's my reaction to Demi Griffin's romantasy novel Cerulean Rose. Demi, thank you for writing it and publishing it. Get a copy, folks.
The novel follows the history of two kingdoms founded by two rival brothers - Cerulean and Sepharite that ended in tragedy. To avoid destruction, the Cerulean Rose must bloom again. That can happen only with the advent of true love.
Meet Aural, a simple girl brought up in the woods, now serving maid to the Prince of Cerulean by a strange twist of Fate. Can their relationship of master and slave grow into something more?
The story gives off Cinderella vibes, true, but the ending reminded me strongly of the Phantom of the Opera, where all three -Christine, Raoul and the Phantom are willing to forego the one they love and their selfish desires, to save/give back his/her life. Sacrificial love.
Cerulean Rose has drama, the Fates - good aspects of the divine, evil in the form of Sooths, dark, mysterious forbidden and even dangerous regions in the kingdoms, unhealed ancient wounds, vested interests, sufficient foes, wicked stepmother and step sister tropes, a beautiful rose garden tended lovingly by a broken hearted queen, revelation, restoration of strained relaonships, sacrificial love.... all Christian themes wonderfully woven into Cinderella meets Phantom of the Opera meets Narnia meets Secret Garden meets Alice Through the Looking Glass tropes.
I loved the story, the imagination of the author and her descriptions are vivid - I could practically imagine myself there. The Rose Garden is an especial favourite of mine, as is the beautifully tender conclusion. The restoration of relationships and hearts is as depicted in the Biblical book of Malachi, with the blooming of the Cerulean Rose. I felt there was just one discordant note of an event in the grand finale of the symphony so created. But I guess that's necessary for another story .
I was given an ARC to read by the author, Demi Griffin. However, these opinions of mine are because of the merits of book and it's well-crafted symphony of a novel.
Cerulean Rose by Demi Griffin was a excellent read. I have been excited about and enjoyed many books recently, but this book has been one of the most enjoyable that I can remember in recent years. This book shows the reader there is a Creator and that He cares so much for His creation. This book gives the reader the exhilaration of romance while still keeping it clean. This book will have you crying and laughing at times. Some of the things you will see in this book are harems, abandonment, unforgiveness, redemption and suggestions of forced relations. As mentioned earlier, this book has a lot of romance, not spicy though you will feel the heat. There are never any inappropriate situations caused by sensual content. I really enjoyed this book, if you could not tell already. It was so well put together and the story so captivating. The author made the main female character strong, yet complimentary. She also made the main male character masculine, but not overly macho or overbearing. I believe this is informed by her beliefs in what we read in the Scriptures of how men and women should be and how they should interact with each other. Prince Langlee is the main male character in this book. He is the next in line to be king. He might not have been if his brothers were acknowledged, but because they are sons of harem women, they are not seen as sons, they just are. His mother passed away early, so he is brought up by his father the King. They have a strained relationship because Langlee does not think that his father ever really loves his mother, but his heart says that he should marry for love and not just out of duty. However, his father tells him he must find a bride before his twenty first birthday, which in this book is shortly. Aural is the main female character of this book. She has also lost her mother early and she lives under her father’s care and a maid that is like a mother to her. She was taken to a secluded wood by her father when she was eight and now, she is eighteen. She has never really known anything but the woods, because her father forbids her from leaving. If anyone must leave, it is him and only when necessary. She always wonders why she cannot leave and asks her father, but he just says because he says so and leaves it at that. Aural never seeks to disobey her father in leaving or anything really, but a situation comes about that she sees no other solution to but leaving and seeking help. When Aural leaves the wood, she meets with trouble. What is known as a mystic is accosted by some young men and Aural feels a need to intervene. The mystic tells her of a prophecy and then disappears. Aural is then arrested, because she cannot prove her citizenship. She was not aware that this would be needed, since she had never been to the city or outside of the wood for any reason. In a sequence of events Aural ends up as the maid of Prince Langlee. When Prince Langlee and Aural meet they start to feel like something is different, but that cannot be. Langlee is the crown prince and aural is a maid. They must navigate this new situation as the prophecy looms and other events begin to warrant concern. I received a complimentary copy from the author through Celebrate Lit, for my honest opinion.
Demi Griffin's Cerulean Rose is a marvelous, must-read fairy tale! Aural has grown up in secluded cottage in the woods, with her father and her nurse (in the fairy tale definition), Miss Jemma. Her father has exacted one promise from her: that she'd never go into the nearby village. And she's kept that promise! Until now...when her father seems to be on the verge of death. Aural ventures away, and into the village.
Into quite a mishap. Mistaken identity. What amounts as kidnapping and forced labor. Where she, as unlikely as it is, meets after an accident (that the mean duchess's mean daughter causes), Prince Langlee. The prince, who's being nagged about finding a bride. And after looking into Aural's eyes? He becomes her rescuer. And perhaps more.
With a prophecy hanging in the balance, assassins lurking and seeking, and real danger to life and limb, Aural and Langlee travel an unexpected, exciting path. That might just reveal more in their characters than they'd have predicted or imagined.
I loved every minute of reading Cerulean Rose. Demi Griffin is a master storyteller, and in her hands, this book is one that will keep you hanging on every word and hoping for a fairy-tale ending. But you'll never know if you'll get one or not. There are twists and turns and unexpected provisions--all to add up to one of the most joyful, fascinating, entertaining books I've read in awhile! Highly recommend!
I received a copy of this book from the author. All opinions shared here are my own honest ones.
This is the first book in a fantasy series by this author. Fantasy is hit or miss for me. But this one was good. It felt more like a fairy tale retelling than it did some weird world of aliens.
Aural is our heroine. She sets off from her home (something she promised never to do) to find a cure for her father’s illness. On her journey, she meets the Prince. Well, and other people too, but of course the prince is the main and most important one!
Langlee is looking for a bride. Sounds like a fairy tale you might know? Don’t worry, it has lots of fun and twists that make it its own tale.
The Cerulean world is protected by the fates. But the fates are not happy after a queen is murdered, and true love seems to no longer exist. Can true love be found again to save the kingdom?
And yes, you can speculate who ends up married to whom and blah blah. But if you don’t read the book, you’ll miss out on all the fun of how they get there!
This is a clean fiction read. More for adults and older teens, I would not personally let a younger teen read the novel, but you use your discretion.
I have voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book, which I received from JustRead Publicity Tours. All views expressed are only my honest opinion. Cerulean Rose is the first book I have read written by Demi Griffin, and it did not disappoint. I am starting to really fall in love with the fantasy genre, and once I figured out the Cerulean world, I was hooked. With a nod to the Cinderella fairytale, this fairytale world was a fun adventure to embark on. I look forward to reading more books by Demi Griffin.
Aural has always lived in the Sabean Woods, but when her father falls ill, she leaves to go find a healer. On that fateful day, she comes across the Duchess, and her path is forever changed. The Duchess captures Aural, and due to Aural not having citizen papers, the Duchess takes her as a servant. Aural is struggling with her duties and is threatened with a much worse fate when Prince Langlee is visiting and steps in to save Aural. Aural now finds herself as a maidservant to the prince. The Prince is trying to find a wife before his twenty-first birthday. When a prophecy is told to both Prince Langlee and Aural, things seem to be unfolding. As the journey goes on, so does the feeling between Langlee and Aural.
The romance elements were kisses only.
I was expecting more of a Christian element because of the author’s other books. It contained a Polytheistic belief system.

Cerulean Rose by Demi (also D.M. Grffin) Griffin is a Romantasy/Fairy Tale Retelling.
Hidden in a Tiny Cottage, this charming tale is filled with romance, mystery, and a meaningful journey of courage and purpose. Aural lives a quiet life in Sabean Woods until her father’s sudden illness forces her to break her promise and venture beyond the only home she’s ever known. What begins as a search for help quickly draws her into a much larger destiny tied to the fate of Cerulean itself.
Aural is a relatable and compelling heroine whose growth shines throughout the story. As she encounters a Mystic, a manipulative Duchess, and the Prince of Cerulean, the stakes rise through an ancient legend surrounding the Cerulean Rose—a symbol of the kingdom’s survival.
The story beautifully blends intrigue and romance while exploring themes of love, sacrifice, and redemption. From a faith-centered perspective, Aural’s journey reflects the power of trusting a greater plan, even when the path is uncertain.
With engaging characters and a heartfelt message, this book is a delightful read for anyone who enjoys fantasy with depth, gentle romance, and a reminder that even the most ordinary person can play an extraordinary role.
So if you want a Romantasy/Fairy Tale Retelling, check out Cerulean Rose by Demi Griffin.
I received a complimentary copy of this book, but this in no way influenced my review. All opinions are my own.
Definitely enjoyed the book and cannot wait to read the next one in the series. It did start off slow, but once I got at the part where Aural entered the city, the book and pace definitely picked up. Its a retelling of Cinderella, where the prince does not listen to his father and takes a servant to be his maidservant.
The storyline was a great pace, I love the fairy tale aspect of it. The growth that the prince goes through, in realizing that he is going to rule the country and he needs to do what is right his people and not what everyone wants was the best part of the book. He was willing to stand up to his father. Whereas Aural, the servant girl, also went through a transformation in learning how to believe in herself was powerful as well.
You will also feel all the emotions you get when you read books.. love, sadness, anger, excitement, frustration and happiness. So be ready for a rollercoaster because D.M. Griffin brings it in this no spice fantasy romance book. Some of the tropes are: forbidden love, royal obligations and righting past wrongs.
I enjoyed the book and I cannot wait to read the next book in the series..

beautiful story that captures the imagination quickly. I loved how the author glides with ease the words that make the story realistic. It is a fantasy book but oh my does it have such great treasures where a young woman is exposed to the evils of the world. I was intrigued by how Aural had been isolated from everything for so long. Her father has tried to keep her safe but that changes one day.
I love the innocence of Aural and how she slowly begins to understand that her life is in danger. A simple task of traveling into the village to seek a doctor for her father leads to an unsure future. The story slowly gives readers a glimpse of how trust is important as you are taken into an unfamiliar place.
With hints of a well known fairy tale we are treated to a prince who sees Aural as someone very special. He wants to protect her yet there are moments of insecurity that cause Aural to question if she is making right choices.
Be sure to read this book without interruption because it is one that demands full attention while following this exciting adventure. The writing is emotional with hints of finding love, letting go hurt and wanting to be accepted.
I received a copy of this book from Celebrate Lit. The review is my own opinion.
Aural has lived the majority of her life with her father in a secluded woods. When circumstances cause her to leave their cottage, things are set into motion that will change the course of history. Prince Langlee “Lee” wants to be a different kind of ruler than his father. He wants to find his true love and rule for the good of his kingdom. Together, Aural and Lee have the potential of forging a relationship that legends have foretold.
I enjoyed the different aspects of well known fairy tales that are incorporated into the story. There are villains, secrets, and, of course, true love. Aural became a selfless and courageous young woman who can see well beyond herself and is willing to make sacrifices for Lee and his kingdom. I liked Lee’s faithful friend and companion, Enris. He is just the kind of man that Lee needed in his life.
The first book in The Fates Trilogy. I am certain that the other two books will be interesting! If you are a fan of clean romantasy, fairy tales, or folklore, look into adding this to your TBR.
I received this book from Celebrate Lit. I was not obligated to write a positive review.
This story shouts fairy-tale and a heads-up on mystical as well. Aural lives deep in the Sabean woods with her father and caregiver away from civilization. Her father is sadly very ill and Aural decides to leave despite the warnings in search for a physician. She manages to make it to town only to be met by a strange old lady with sticks, and then, gets arrested for not having citizenship papers. This is the start of her journey, and she is met with unexpected twists and turns that are out of her hands. Fast-forward and Aural literally tumbles upon Prince Langlee, and this incident takes Aural into another direction. As the story progresses, Aural, Prince Langlee and his half-brother are given riddles and are all befuddled as to what to do until the time comes. A happily ever after ending, but I was somewhat surprised by the ending of how his half-brother deals with an issue. I don’t mind the fantasy genre at times and the one thing lacking was the Christian elements. I believe this was for the YA age group, but I think it is best for older teens and 18+. I received this e-book for free from Celebrate Lit Tour and the opinions I express are honest and my own.
Cerulean Rose was a fresh, sweet retelling with lots of unexpected plot twists. The writing style is prose rich (which I thoroughly enjoy) and emotional, with nuggets of wisdom strewn throughout. Some of my personal favorites were:
I suppose when you let disappointments turn to injury, you make decisions that only lead to regret.
Love, in its truest form, demands sacrifice.
Prince Langlee is a relatable character who wants to do right but feels he's always upsetting someone. Much pressure rests on his shoulders to restore his nation by choosing a bride that will cause the cerulean rose to bloom again - but what if the woman he loves comes in the most unacceptable package?
Aural is a sweet, true-hearted maiden who just wanted to get the medical help her father needed - and ends up on a path she never chose for herself.
The ending was delightfully satisfying 💗
This story is written for adults, but safe for teens.
The first book in Demi Griffin’s new The Fates trilogy, Cerulean Rose is a charming coming of age fantasy romance with Cinderella elements.
Set in one of two rival kingdoms, amid the growing threat of war, a sheltered young woman sets off on a quest. Elsewhere, a prince is looking to escape his suffocating life at court. And when they meet, their entanglement is complicated by deepening plots and schemes.
Aural and Langlee’s relationship is not without surprises. Though the first few pages had me wondering if I would get along with the writing style, I was soon swept up in their story and wanting more of the Cerulean legends. And having the next book center around Langlee’s brother Enris has me looking forward to the next installment in this trilogy.
Recommended.

I'm not sure how to begin. I adored this story. The twists kept me guessing, the plot was intriguing, the characters brought out a whole buffet table of emotions including, but not at all limited to, rage, frustration, dramatic eye rolling, sorrow and sheer, unadulterated joy. I had the best time losing myself in the legend of the Cerulean Rose and its ties to true love. It was amazing, for lack of a better word. Amazing doesn't begin to cover how beautiful I found this story. And then to find out there are TWO MORE in the series?!? YES PLEASE!
If you need me, I'll be diving back in. Don't send a search party, I like it in here.
"Cerulean Rose" by Demi Griffin is the first book in this series. I didn't know anything about this book except it was a fantasy read! And to be honest I was thinking "No way am I going to like this book", I am not a fantasy fan, but I did enjoy it! It is filled with unexpected twists. This is a clean read. If you are a reader who likes marriages of conveniences and where a prince and a simple girl from the woods are the main characters, then this is the book for you to read next! If you are looking for a book that is Christian or that has Christian themes than you need to past on this book but again as I already posted this is a clean read with only kisses. I received a complimentary copy from the author and Celebrate Lit and these opinions are my own.
This was such a beautiful, romantic story. Set in a fantasy world with nods to several fairy tales this story will sweep you away as a girl who thinks she is a nobody wins the heart of a prince. Cerulean Rose by Demi Griffin is a clean, fantasy romance where love triumphs against all odds. This book will keep you turning pages and waiting for the delicious ending! This is a clean, romantic, fantasy where a Prince and a Maid falls in love only to discover they were meant for each other all along! I really enjoyed this story and give it 5 stars. I received a complimentary review copy of this story from the author and am writing this review voluntarily.
I thought this was a good fantasy. I liked the uniqueness of the story. I liked the characters and the world the author created. I liked how Aural and the prince were able to break part of the curse on the land. I look forward to the next book to see how things progress and resolve.
