Cannon Price came from nothing. The son Tessa King was forced to give away, he grew up fighting for every scrap of respect he ever got. Framed by the crew he once called family, he did five brutal years in prison and came out colder, harder, and hell-bent on payback.
He swore he’d never fall for anyone again, until he met Queen-Marie Davenport, the bossed-up baddie who runs Sylk Road, Harlem’s most exclusive strip club. She’s dangerous in heels, soft in the dark, and hiding secrets that could ruin them both.
Their chemistry is explosive. Their connection, forbidden. She wants power. He wants revenge. But neither can resist the pull.
When Harlem’s underworld catches scent of Cannon’s return, old enemies rise from the ashes and the Kings are forced to face the ghost they left behind. Creed built the empire. Riot protected it. And Cannon is the piece they didn’t know was missing.
He’s not looking for love. She’s not asking to be saved. But sometimes two broken people can build an empire of their own.
From the world of Creed and Riot comes Cannon, a dark, passionate African American romance about second chances, family secrets, and love that refuses to die.
One-click now and fall for the most dangerous brother yet.
The epilogue of “Riot” introduced Cannon and I was all for his personality immediately! I appreciated the character devolved the author gave Cannon as the book progressed. Yet, the book was a bit flat and I struggled getting through the first part as it didn’t pick up until Riot & Creed showed up.
I can’t wait to find an author who gives us emotionally intelligent MMC rather than men who are possessive over women’s bodies to the point where they can barely say a generic hello to another human (male) being. “Mine” this and “mine” that is juvenile and immature. Confidence and security is sexier than childish tantrums. (Queen couldn’t even help Javi off the floor w/o Cannon losing it. That’s sexy?)
With the repetition, the book could have been 20% shorter. Some of the repetition was copy/paste within the same paragraphs.
I have been on this King Family ride and I honestly think Cannon Price is my favorite brother.
First let me start by saying this book is missing a trigger warning page and it MOST DEFINITELY NEEDS ONE
⛔️ TRIGGERS ⛔️ ⚠️ Post Partum Child Harm (on page) ⚠️ Suicide (on page) ⚠️ Manic Bipolar episodes (on page)
Now that we’ve gotten the hard part out the way, Cannon was introduced at the end of Riots book where we found out the secret of King Brothers Mother. Cannon was hostile in that meeting and wanted nothing to do with the King Brothers Mother
Now he’s been released from a 5 year prison bid determined to claim the money he had while locked up and live a different lifestyle for he and his sister that doesn’t include the street
His journey to claiming that money is lost along the way as he navigated Tramatic issue after tramatic issue. Meeting Queen was by chance and his need of employment to survive forced them together. He had an instant mission to claim her and tame the boss bitch energy down.
Queen was a Boss and I loved that, but she was struggling with the weight of her bipolar child and mother and the tragedies of her past. Her need of control fed Cannons need to make her submit. The tug of war was written very well. However the obsessive MMC is getting played out. His inability to be mature when she was in the presence of other men or his need to claim her as “MINE” showed his lack of emotional maturity. He was a true hot head at the end of the day lol. His blind protection of his sister was also crazy but added depth to this story. (That sister was a hot ass mess)
The sex scenes were extremely repetitive in my opinion and I found the verbiage used to be annoying at times. Several parts of the book lacked consistency in details which was slightly distracting but didn’t last long. A little more editing would have made this that much better.
With that being said this was a really good story that had plot, chemistry and tons of character development which I loved. I’m hoping this is not the end of the road bc I’m interested in meeting the Banks family and getting more glimpses of Cannon and Queen in the future. I would recommend giving this one a read.
Maybe my standards were too high? But it was very anticlimactic.😩 All that build-up just for it to lose steam and become boring 50% in?!
1. There wasn't as much action as I expected.
2. The drama was resolved as quickly as it was introduced.
3. There were little to no obstacles between Queen and Cannon making their romance bland and boring. The only spice was the 10-year gap and the action in the bedroom ? 🤨 Wasn't moved by their characters at all. Wasn't convinced.
Sidenote:
One thing I've noticed that authors do (including N'Dia) lately is reveal scenes via dialogue. Like we never get to see the actual scenes play out from the characters POV.😩 As a result: *The story doesn't flow. *It feels like crucial scenes are missing. *& The story moves at a very fast pace.
For example:
I would've loved to get Reese's POV growing up as a foster child and developing feelings for Cannon and/or ZaZa's POV when she was dating Marcus and just her overall feelings about her parents and her mum running a strip club.
There were ample opportunities to flesh out these scenes but they were skipped over.
A disappointing read but still entertaining enough to finish to the end. Enough drama to keep you engaged. It felt like Cannon and Queen couldn't catch a break. So much bad news thrown at them. But *spoiler alert* it's a sickeningly sweet HEA🤢 lol
Never read about so many bodies dropping at the end of a book like this one! And even with the ending, I still don’t like ZaZa and her daddy, and nothing is going to change my mind. Queen and Cannon deserve PEACE after that hell of a lifestyle and week they lived through.
A well-written dark urban romance that tries to get to the underbelly of the King family.
"Cannon Price was a force of nature, unstoppable once set in motion. All I could do was hold on tight and pray we both survived the storm that was coming.
Tropes & Spice 💥YN/Older Woman 💥Slow Burn Romance 💥MINE 💥 Protector 💥Baddest Bish willing to fold for the right one 💥 Crime suspense, danger, & action
“Come for me,” he commanded.... “Now, Queen. Let me feel that pussy squeeze my dick.” 🌶️🌶️ Smash sessions on a bar top 🌶️🌶️Getting folded in her office 🌶️🌶️Hand necklaces 🌶️🌶️"Say please"
"I'm going to handle anyone else that threatens mine"
Romance Flow 🤟🏾I enjoyed the ride but one thing I love about romance is watching how the characters dance around one another but also build together, how they let one another in, how they slowly accept one another and interactions gives us that set-up.
🤟🏾But when the burn is slow and the mains are barely in scenes together by 40% that romance high starts to get blown out. Even when those characters finally smash by 40% it's hollow when there's barely any other intimacy or conversations. The lack of emotional imitacy dulls the romance shine and with such a shorter read than the others in the series, it makes me wonder why it took so long to final get more than an inch.
"Let go for me Queen"
Some ohhss and oh noosss ⛔Likeee you swamping fluids but no tongue kisses or hugs, no forehead kisses, or reassurances? "You're mine now" after sexytimes also hits different when y'all haven't even laid out your basic level fears, still glaring at each other and playing keep away with your heart. I love how N'Dia Rae has depth to her romances. There are levels of complexities here that are appreciated.
⛔Likeeee why is this a King Family Saga but Cannon remains wholly separated from the Kings we were introduced to until halfway through the book?
⛔ Likeee exactly how old is Queen? They called Cannon a YN but how old was he? That should be upfront in an age gap romance.
⛔ Likkeeeee why are some of these mysteries left dangling in key moments? It felt in service to the plot versus what should be naturally occuring.
Meet the Characters "I need to see that pretty face when you comes on my dick"
#StoicMMC Cannon is like his namesake a heavy piece of machinery used in warfare, he's quiet and he doesn't take shit from anyone. He doesn't have to. He's a lead with silence type and he means what he says. However, I had moments where I wondered, for a man so smart how did he allow himself to get played like he did? Of course obvious answer is his blind spot.
He’s… different ....He tames the wildness in me. He gives me a space to be vulnerable and taken care of. I don’t have to be in control with him. I can fully lose control.”
#BadBishFMC Queen is a more than a female ruler. A queen is also known as the foremost and deserving of all preeminence in any respect. What works so well with Queen's characterization is the diconmony her insecurities bring out. She is a Bad Boss Bish but moreover she has softness. This story is about allowing her softness to finally come in. She doesn't have to be strong to hold everyone else up. She's met her match and he blasted through all of walls and reserves.
"I’d burn this whole fucking city down before I let ... anyone else touch what was mine.
Depth ✅️ FMC a little older & soul tired. Being a woman in a man's game...yesss age gap alert ✅️Mental health rep. Queen's mother & daughter both have bi-polar disorder ✅️ Cannon a recently released ex-felon who's backup plan is gone when his money man ODs on fentanyl laced ❄️ ✅️Mysteries that need to be solved.
"Make me forget my own name"
Overall: All layered with beautiful lines & panty melting anticipation. The storyline pacing was fast even if the romance and intimacy wasn't. There felt like some dangling threads but by the end that warm glowy feeling just felt nice and right. N'Dia definitely has a way with words and with getting your heart racing and blood pumping with action.
I enjoyed this latest addition to the King Family Saga getting to know Cannon, newly out of jail and resentful of his new-found King family connections, and Queen, the highly controlled boss dealing with a traumatic family history of mental illness.
I liked that Cannon had his head on straight despite being the sort to cut his nose to spite his face about his inheritance and Queen was a really well-developped character as well with a lot of complexity. If there’s one thing I wish there was more of, it is more connection to Creed and Riot than we got at the end. I wish this felt more intertwined with the previous books in the series although it’s of course understandable that Cannon was not as closely linked to his half-brothers.
First of all… are we really out here denying millions of dollars and sleeping on an air mattress because we holding a grudge?! Sir. If you don’t go collect that money and wipe your tears with hundred-dollar bills! 😭
But okay… I get it. Cannon went through a lot growing up. He always felt like people were making decisions for him, controlling his path, and he was determined to never let that happen again. After doing a five-year bid for something he didn’t even do, he came home focused on two things: staying low and stacking money.
Yeah, he had ties to the King family… but kumbaya wasn’t on his to-do list. He liked his distance. Preferred it, actually.
Until he needed a job.
Enter Queen. Yes, that’s her name and it fits. Ten years older, bossed up, independent, and absolutely not checking for a man. She didn’t need saving. She didn’t want help. And she definitely wasn’t looking for love.
But Cannon? Whew.
Those blue eyes. That deep voice. That broody, dominant energy. He had a presence that slowly melted through her armor and made her want to lay all those heavy burdens down at his feet burdens she had been carrying alone for way too long.
And together? They were hot. Spicy. Dangerous. The kind of couple that could either build an empire or burn everything down trying.
Cannon was prideful, guarded, and stubborn in the most delicious way. But watching him learn that even the strongest, most independent man still needs family sometimes? That growth hit.
This trilogy did NOT disappoint. If you haven’t started it yet, go ahead and dive in. The King brothers are something serious. 🔥📚
Cannon may not have been a king, but they definitely share blood.
Cannon started off showing just how much him, Creed and Riot are alike straight from jump. Him and Riot are most alike and my goodness, they are one and the same.
Queen is a 40 year old mom of one daughter and she is a BOSS!!! She owns her own club and she makes major moves. She doesn’t need a man, but lately with all the many things happening in life, she’s been feeling like she needs some kind of attention. More’so sense a YN has stepped on the scene has her nee head of security. Not only does he demand respect, he commandeers her will to submit with just a look and the timber of his voice.
Cannon plays no games with or about Queen.
When the past rears it’s ugly head, Cannon stops at nothing to set them both free.
I enjoyed Cannon’s story and I loved how he finally saw that he could no longer hurt himself holding a grudge.
I will say out of all the book, Riot is my favorite. 🤷🏾♀️
Canon was an absolutely amazing read from start to finish. The storyline was engaging and well-crafted, pulling me in from the very first page and keeping me hooked all the way through. The author did an incredible job developing the main characters—they felt real, relatable, and deeply compelling. The plot was strong and consistently captivating, with just the right balance of tension and progression. Every chapter left me wanting more, making it incredibly difficult to put the book down. In fact, the only reason I ever did was to keep up with my everyday responsibilities—otherwise, I would have read it straight through without stopping. This is one of those books that stays with you even when you're not reading it, constantly drawing your thoughts back to the story. I truly enjoyed every moment of it and look forward to exploring more works by this author. Overall, Canon is a fantastic read that I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a gripping and memorable story. Great job to the author!
Cannon did five years, thanks to Silas. Cannon is Tessa child. She felt guilty for giving him up, so she put him in her will. Plus she told Creed and Riot to look out for him. Cannon was looking for a job. He found one as head of security. He wanted Queen from the moment he saw her at the bar. Queen wanted him also. Queen wanted to have someone look at her as a woman, not a mother, daughter or a business woman. They had sex wherever, whenever. Cannon was in charge. Javi wanted her just because she wanted Cannon. Reece had some underlying mental issues. Zaza did too, but hers were more pronounced. I feel sorry for her boys they didn't deserve that. I wanted the boys to go with Cannon so bad. Cannon made Queen's dream come true. Don't mess with the Kings
I forgot Cannons story was coming! So this was a pleasant surprise! I had to jog my memory for what happened in the previous books so I would suggest reading those first if you havent to fully understand. But this book was entertaining! There were a few plot lines going on which keeps you engaged to see how it all unfolds. Cannon was being stubborn but I was glad when he finally came around. Would love to see more of the brothers together now that they are cordial. I took off one star because it was repetitive in some places, in fact one paragraph was repeated verbatim a few pages apart. So could have used a little more editing. But would still recommend reading.
Excellent Book Cannon was an amazing book. I loved how he went through so much to get where he is now. Cannon was smart, YN, stubborn, strong, and will go over and beyond. He went through ao much to come out on top. I was glad that Cannon connected with both sides of his family in the end. Queen showed what a strong woman looked like after going through a rough like life. Mom should never put their child/children through what Queen went through. I love how Queen fought for her daughter. Her ex-husband got on my nerves. Sometimes, men dont want women, but once they move on. They always was to come back. I was on the edge of my seat reading. I love how Cannon and Queen were to become a power couple. I would recommend this series
I really enjoyed Cannon’s story, just like I enjoyed Creeds and Riots. I appreciated that this book focused on Cannon without making his brothers the main characters again. It allowed his individual journey to truly shine. I especially liked seeing his personal growth and how he eventually accepted his brothers as family.
Queen as a love interest was definitely interesting. At times, I found her a bit annoying, but overall, her character worked well within the story. While their relationship did seem to move pretty quickly, it didn’t take away from the overall experience.
The plot was compelling and kept the story moving at a steady pace. The drama and the cast of characters made it entertaining from beginning to end.
Overall 3.9/5. Spice 3.9/5. Solid story with the same amount of turns and intrigue I expect based on the previous books in this series. Cannon is released from a 5yr prison stent for which he was likely deserving of based on the law but nonetheless set up by his biological mother’s husband. Queen is the divorced strip club owner who has a traumatic history that was started by the untreated bipolar mother and continues with her bipolar daughter. The story gave an interesting glimpse into this disorder. Cannon is 10 years younger than Queen and as much as she longs to let go, she has a hard time relinquishing control to him. He has to move past old grudges and learn to trust in the midst of ongoing betrayals. Multiple people are killed off but ultimately it all works out.

Out of the 3 brothers, Creed, Riot & Cannon, Cannon maybe my favorite. While all 3 are protectors in their own way, Cannon just protects differently. Through all the pain and trauma he endured, he still had a soft side to him. When you think about it Queen and Cannon belong together and really balance one another out. Their childhood was trauma, adulthood was also trauma but them finding one another really helped with their own healing. The 2 surprises for me was Reese and who ZaZa ended up dating which I had a feeling he was bad news. ALSO, I’m happy Cannon finally allowed his brothers in to help him
N'Dia Rae took her time developing these characters. Cannon is definitely a dominant man. The trauma he experienced throughout life made him very hard, stubborn, street smart and independent. Queen is a strong woman and a serious boss lady. She knows how to run a business while trying to manage her mother and daughter. Cannon was the type of man she needed to make her feel secure enough to let her softer side show. They had passionate sex and were able to trust and love each other. Cannon learned he was trusting the wrong family. I recommend this series.
I understand that each man Has their own story to tell, but I was just expecting a more intricate interweaving of the brotherhood as we learn more about who Cannon is as an individual. That would be my only disappointment from this book as well as Riot. The brothers didn’t even play the back, they were almost non existent in this book. Sometimes the reader just wants to know more about slow Crete and the other characters that was introduced to us earlier on in the series, but I was just left hanging. Other than my own selfishness, this was another great read.
I absolutely loved the flow and storyline of this series. It was the perfect reading escape giving spice, drama, real-life trauma, and just enough chaos to keep me fully invested. Even when certain moments felt a little unrealistic, it honestly made the experience more enjoyable. As a reader, I want to step into an alternate universe that has me giggling and kicking my feet and this series delivered.
Cannon & Queen’s story made me think of the phrase, “When life throws you lemons, make lemonade.” Those two could not catch a break, but their perseverance and growth were beautiful to watch. While parts of the storyline felt slightly rushed, it was still a strong and satisfying ending to the King Family Saga. 8/10
What stood out most to me was how deeply this series explored the sons’ trauma. It highlighted the importance of protecting our children — especially Black children — and acknowledged the long-lasting effects of harm caused by broken, sick-minded adults. I appreciated how each son ultimately chose to confront his pain and shift the trajectory of his family’s legacy. That generational healing theme was powerful. I also loved seeing strong Black love portrayed without reducing the women to damsels in distress. The male leads were protective and passionate, but the women were equally strong, capable, and dynamic. The couples felt well-matched, and the character development was thoughtful and consistent throughout.
I will always enjoy reading about a thriving Black family rooted in business, building wealth, protecting one another, and creating a lasting legacy. Overall? Very spicy. Very action-packed. A little stressful at times but absolutely worth it.
Cannon had so much inner anger against Tessa, his birth mother and had no desire to know The King brothers, his half brothers. Things took a turn in this story, he came home after his 5 year bid, met Queen, a strip club owner and their lives started out building on a shaky foundation but they figured it out. Her Ex Javi was a mess, her family history of mental illness, it was a lot. Reese turned out to be really delusional, her demise was sad, her true colors came out! Cannon finally got his life together and they got their HEA! Very good series!
A Stronger Voice: Cannon’s Tale in The King Family Saga
I just finished the first series of The King Family Saga by N’Dia Rae, focusing on Cannon’s story. I’d say this book is definitely better than the first installment—the author has grown, and so has her editor. The plot, imagery, vision, and trauma feel markedly different from the first two books, making the struggles more relatable. It’s easy to imagine this book as a movie.
This installment also explores Cannon’s other half of his family—the paternal side of his story. However, I need a break because my book club has chosen a different title for this month. That said, I’ll be back to see what happens next.
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Cannon and Queen, an unforgettable love story.
What a journey this book took me on. Cannon and Queen came from completely different worlds, but once they found each other, it was clear they were the only ones who truly understood one another. Their love was raw, intense, and beautifully complicated. Queen was used to running everything around her, but when it came to Cannon, she had to surrender control and not because she was weak, but because he was the kind of man who led with strength and purpose. Their dynamic was powerful.
I really enjoyed this installment of the King family saga. I love the character background development, all the conflicts, the romantic connections, the mental health storylines.
In all three books, the author gave us a heads up of what it was to come and it was really really great to see everything come together.
That being said, this is a story that I could read more than once and for me that’s always a good thing. I would definitely recommend this series as a whole.
Wow! Cannon surely lived up to his name! Another Book bae to fantasize about!! LAWD!! The way he handled Queen left me breathless! And her as well! She couldn't help but to submit! She was taken completely of guard by his force and dangerous confidence! I couldn't believe Reese played him like that and Javi with his pitiful self! Glad Cannon lit his azz up! ZaZa was a handful as well! Glad Cannon came along and him and Queen came together! You never know when you will find love! That's the beauty of it all! Finding your person!
Yes!! Cannon ja like his brothers! Him and Queen go together and them scenes 🚬🍷! I like cannon character, but reese surprised mi, i wouldn't of thought she was the person she turned out to b🤦🏾♀️. Queen's mom even wit her disorder was a piece of work, both cannon and queen were manipulated by the people they held close🤦🏾♀️ im glad josiah and hunter still in cannon life🫶🏽. Im glad cannon, riot, and creed r on good terms too! Even though riot and cannon had to duke it out in the beginnin because they so much alike🤣. This book was allat!! U did tht! 💐👑!
I thought I loved Riot… Cannon might have taken that spot. He went through so much… a child born in infidelity and given away. Raised by great adoptive parents only for them to be taken away from him. He had his adoptive sister though… who knew she was in love with him though. Cannon spent 5 years inside because of Silas and Smoke. He came home, struggled, got a job, met up with his half brothers, got a woman, went through some more mess, but came out on top! Great read! I’m wondering if we’ll meet his siblings on the Banks side
I love me some Cannon!!!…The underdog, conceived in chaos and abandoned because he didn’t fit in the King Family!!!… That didn’t matter to Riot and Creed, he was family and those 2 don’t believe in leaving family behind!!!… Queen’s story, although a tragic one, she didn’t allow that to stop her from being successful!!!.. Now Cannon and Queen are building together and he has his brothers with him!!!… I was so angry with Reese for doing Cannon the way she did!!!…Messing with his livelihood because you want more than being his sibling!!!…
Before I give my review of Cannon, make sure you read the books in order. First Creed, then Riot and last Cannon. I must say the author is a real story teller. I like Cannon's sexy control over Queen. Queen herself has her own fires to put out. Cannon and Riot both have those shoot first and figure it out later, attitudes. I did not comment on Creed or Riots books, but they also got 5 stars. Their dad was a very, very bad man. The author has a way of making you think you have everything and everyone figured out, then she drops a bomb on you.
But...with such a good story line, there were more then a few times when words were printed twice in the same sentence. Never the less, great reads.
N' Dia Rae, great addition to the series. I love Cannon, he shows his dark side and he really wants to have love, he is such a complex man but at the same time he was such a great protector. Queen had so much h going on in her life. She had been such a leader for so long she had such a time releasing her hold. To see the bond they had and to see Cannon finally have the family he deserves was so special. Queen was finally able to be a woman and have her soft time🤗🤗🤗🤗🤗
