The One Bed Rule

Rate this book
All Claire wants for her birthday is her own bed and a break from her grueling schedule. But her trip home is rudely interrupted by an unexpected autumn snowstorm that forces an emergency landing.

Determined to get home to New York City, she carpools with Seth—the enormous, broody bodyguard for the pop star she manages.

Claire doesn’t know much about Seth, other than how good he smells in the tight confines of the car and how hot his forearms look as he grips the steering wheel.

Seth only knows Claire as the Type A handler who loves following the rules and who makes breathy little noises each time he hits the brakes.

The night takes a turn when they end up stranded at The Fable Inn. There’s no fireplace in their shared room, but the tension between them crackles hot enough to mimic one, and Seth can’t help fantasizing about a dynamic he’d love to explore with The One Bed Rule.

THE ONE BED RULE is a standalone spicy age-gap novella with stormed-in vibes and zero chance of the characters keeping their hands to themselves...

The One Bed Rule by Rachel Laberge is such a cozy, spicy novella that hit all the right notes for me. I absolutely loved that both the main characters are 35+, which feels so refreshing when most romance leads are written in their twenties. The Fable Inn setting was pure winter magic. I wish I could be snowed in somewhere that cozy.

The chemistry and spice between the MMC and FMC were utter perfection. My only complaint is that it’s a novella, and I could have easily spent an entire full-length book with these two. If you’re in the mood for something short, steamy, and perfectly atmospheric, this one’s a must-read.

Such a perfect one-bed romance trope!

I absolutely loved this story. The “older” main characters were a refreshing change, and the ex-firefighter MMC/Drew (Swifties know) was a total standout. Both leads felt perfectly portrayed for the vibe of the book. The spice? Spicing. And the cozy vibes? Off the charts.

Honestly, I could have kept reading—it was that good—but it worked really well as a novella. Super cute and satisfying!

Spicy 🌶️ snowed-in one bed age gap romance 💝

4⭐️ 3🌶️ This is a cute, sweet, quick read but the spice is delicious. 🤤 It’s my first book by Rachel Laberge but I definitely will be reading more. Don’t forget to read the Bonus Epilogue at the end.

Claire Benton is the manager of a pop star, and Seth is the head of security. They are on a flight back to NYC when it has to make an emergency landing in a small town in North Carolina due to a snowstorm. They get the last rental car and head to the Fable Inn. Where, of course, there is just one room and one bed 🛏️ available. How convenient. 🤣 Seth is a walking green flag. She loves to follow rules. 😮‍💨🫠🥵👏🏻🫡

A sweet and spicy little mamajama of a novella that will surely have you sweating and swooning!

I gobbled this book up in one sitting it was so good. Deliciously spicy with characters I loved!

Seth and and Claire are snowed in together after their flight has to make an emergency landing due to inclement weather. And as fate would have it, the closest inn available only has power on one side and only two rooms, one of which is being occupied by the lone employee manning the inn - hence, just one bed available for the two of them😉. The inn is super cozy, and Seth and Clair are two attractive, consenting adults, so what better way to pass the time by enjoying each others company... if you know what I mean😏

I LOVED that our main characters were more mature! Add in the fact that Seth is a consent KING and a walking green flag that's been to therapy and knows how to communicate and take care of Claire, and I fell in love with this man.

These two had chemistry and I loveddd the spicy scenes. Add in the mental health rep Rachel writes so well in her books, and it made me love this novella even more.

Highly recommend The One Bed Rule for lovers of:
- spicy novella
- only one bed trope (because who doesn't love this?)
- bodyguard MMC
- pop star manager FMC
- forced Proximity
- age gap (10 years)
- mental health rep

the secret is finally out!🤩✨💞

Y’all!! I devoured this one🥹

The One Bed Rule by Rachel LaBerge is the ultimate slump-buster!! think…grabs you by the heart (and the hormones 👀) and DOES NOT let go.🥰

After weeks of dusty trails and broody cowboys, I needed a hit of that contemp romance dopamine and this delivered HARD. 👏🏼🙂‍↕️💥 Do I miss my rugged ranch boys? Sure. But Seth??

Seth is a DROOL WORTHY MMC and I will not be taking questions at this time…🤤😵‍💫 Give me that cinnamon roll interior with a cocky streak ANY DAY!!🤭👏🏼💞 and don’t even get me started on our girl boss heroine who knows exactly what (and who 👀) she wants, i was LIVING for it!!

Seriously, if you’re in a reading funk, let this be your cure. It’s sexy, sharp, and sweet in all the right places😈💋

Peep these tropes!

💞 One Bed
✨ Forced Proximity
💞 Girl Boss x Golden Retriever
✨ Friends to Lovers
💞 “We can keep it casual” (we all know how that ends)
✨ Secret Texting

Not only is this novella cozy and spicy in the best way possible, it was so much fun to be a part of a secret book roll out!

Claire and Seth are heading back home after being on the road with their client. When a snow storm derails their plans, they plan to travel back via car. But mother nature had other plans in the form of The Fable Inn where they became snowed in when the roads became impassable.

The chemistry between Claire and Seth was fantastic. While they were both attracted to each other, they had kept their feelings hidden. Once at The Fable Inn, the chemistry became too much to ignore and I could not get enough. This book has just the right amount of spice, with a magical setting that wraps them in their own world. My only complaint is I wanted more because I could not get enough!

Thank you so much to Rachel and her team for coordinating this secret book release process. It was so much fun to tease the secret and help celebrate this tasty novella!

One Bed Rule is a spicy novella that was a fun read! Claire and Seth both work for Popstar Willow. While Willow has left to head off for a break, she's sent both Claire and Seth home from her last stop. The two soon find their plane has to ground early due to a freak snowstorm, and sharing a room in the local B&B. Attractions are high, coffee brewing, and snow still falling... what will the two of them do?

I found One Bed Rule to be super cute and spicy! While a quick and easy read, I feel like we got a lot from both Claire and Seth. I enjoyed their banter and their attraction to each other so much that I honestly hope we get a 2nd book in the future detailing their lives after they return back to "their normal lives." I also hope this is a start of future novellas, because now I'm interested in Willow and what's going on over in Italy! Definitely check it out.

I absolutely loved this “only one bed at the inn” novella! I was excited to be part of this secret project!

Claire and Seth look after a world famous pop star : Claire her manager and Seth, her body guard. After a whirlwind emergency landing on a flight, they find themselves literally snowed in at a small town inn. And you better believe that all of the delicious tropes that come with this predicament were jam packed into these 120 pages!

I loved how Claire was able to let her guard down with Seth. She didn’t have to be “on” and he bought out this side of her that doesn’t get out often. These characters were “older” then the typical in these sorts od books ans let me tell you, for 48 years old SETH CAN GET IT. and I’ll be snowed in with him anytime!

4.25⭐!

Such a perfect novella! I'll never get sick of Rachel's writing, give me her grocery list and I'll be happy😅 even though this takes place in October, the snow blizzard makes it just wintery enough to pass as a cozy holiday novella.

I've come to expect the emotional damage Rachel gives me with every single one of her books, but despite me knowing it's coming it still always blindsides me! Leave it to her to give us the best romances with all the emotions😍

One Bed Rule by Rachel LaBerge was such a fun, spicy little novella!

The cozy atmosphere at the Fable Inn, the snowed-in setting, and that delicious age gap tension made it such a quick, and fun read. Cute, steamy, and full of chemistry—perfect for when you need a short and spicy read.

I loved that the book hooks you from the beginning and keeps you wanting more, the characters were well developed and realistic of of course can’t forget the nickname “birthday girl” if my birthday doesn’t come with a nickname and snowed in spicy fun I don’t even want it after reading this!

This was such a fun secret to keep!!
Claire is traveling with her client’s security officer when bad weather causes them to land early. There’s only one room, with one bed at the inn. It’s also Claire’s birthday, and she can’t get back home to spend it how she planned.

Seth and Claire make rules to keep things professional while staying together, but rules were made to be broken! They make the most of their snowy retreat! This age gap, spicy novella is such a fun read!

Let me say, I ATE. THIS. UP. I absolutely adored Seth and Claire’s dynamic. For this story being a short novella, I was really surprised at how well I got to know the characters, and their relationship didn’t feel rushed. @rachellabergeauthor somehow found the perfect balance of story telling, character development, and spicy scenes 🤭 Dare I say some of the best spicy scenes I have ever read?? 🔥

This is truly one of the most fun ARCs I have ever gotten. It’s such a quick, fun read and is such a wonderful highlight of all of Rachel’s writing capabilities. As much as I don’t typically buy into tropes as a selling point, I will never not be obsessed with forced proximity, and this one does that SO deliciously.

2 ⭐️ 3.5 🌶️ 1 🤍 I’m in a mood but I did not like that, and I like everything. My first mistake was assuming from the cover that this was going to be a cute little love story. Really, it was two people with zilch chemistry banging for the whole book. I needed more depth to the plot. Not the books fault. There’s a time and a place for a book like this, and it wasn’t what I was looking for.

I have 3 questions for you:

✅ Do you like cozy, age-gap romance?
✅ Are you an enjoyer of spicy, snowed-in adventures?
✅ Steamy shower scenes??

Well, look no further, because that's this book!

I had so much fun reading this cute and spicy novella, and let me tell you, it’s the PERFECT Fall to Winter vibes between a pop-star manager and bodyguard. 😍🤌🏻 You get great spice, a little bit of trauma, and a whole lot of fun—sexy Scrabble and Scream movies, anyone?

Why is it that men get to age and legitimately get hotter with each year that passes, while the rest of us are out here fighting for our lives?

I especially loved the dynamic between the two MCs in this particular forced proximity situation. Seth was the perfect mix of strong, attentive, and surprisingly tender and had so, so much tension (and a bit of a soft side) with Claire.

These two make a pact that what happens at The Fabled Inn stays their little secret, and things get deliciously exciting. If you want a quick, cozy read with romance in a wintery setting, this one’s it!

My brain would be screaming at me to be productive— don’t waste it. But I think orgasms and hot showers in an October storm, followed by a divine nap plus the end of my favorite scary movie is anything but wasting a day.

Thank you to the author for the e-ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Claire wants nothing more on her birthday than to get back to her own bed, but an unexpected snowstorm forces her plane to make an emergency landing at a tiny airport in South Carolina she’s never heard of. With whiteout conditions, Claire is forced to hunker down at The Fable Inn with Seth, the sexy bodyguard who works for the pop star she manages. The tension between them is undeniable, and the two agree to follow the One Bed Rule for the weekend - they give in to their attraction to each other as long as they’re stuck.

This novella was both sweet and very spicy. I'm not usually a huge fan of novellas because the shortened timeline doesn't leave a lot of room for character development, but it actually worked really well for this one. Although Claire and Seth don't have any relationship history, their familiarity with each other through work helps to set up some background so there isn't as much time needed for them to get to know each other. The one bed rule also helped because their initial focus is to get to know each other physically. Despite that, Claire and Seth do start to build an emotional relationship as well, and I loved getting to see snippets of them opening up to each other about their pasts and personal lives.

What a fun little surprise novella from one of my faves (and the best aggressive hugger)! I’m always a sucker for a snowed in, there’s only one bed romance and The One Bed Rule was sweet and spicy novella perfection.

Claire is heading home from and event with her biggest pop star client and just wants to spend the perfect birthday day pampering herself. Instead, the worst plane ride ends in being stranded in a tiny North Carolina inn with her client’s head of security, totally hot Seth. And there’s only one bed. And when it’s clear they’ve both got the hots for each other, ex-fireman with a tragic past Seth suggests a “just while we’re here in one bed” hook up agreement. But obviously these two won’t be happy with only one weekend together…

I loved having slightly older main characters (Claire’s in her 30s, Seth is in his 40s) and I loved how much of a badass type A independent lady Claire is AND how much Seth respects that about her. It’s a “I want to help her with her plate” not a “she can’t handle it” attitude that I LOVE! Seth also has a tragic past and is convincing himself he’s allowed to love again, which also uh how sweet. They’re just the cutest. A lot of times with novellas, it can feel incomplete, but the time limit set by circumstance really makes it work here! If you love hot former firemen who will take care of you, add The One Bed Rule to your TBR asap!!!

🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥

The premise of this whole ARC process was so much fun. All we were told is that an author (not named) needed ARC readers for a book (also not named) coming out soon. At first I was thinking this is crazy! How am I supposed to decide if I want to read this unnamed book? What if the author was someone whose writing style wasn’t my preference? What if there was….gasp…no spice?

Well, all my fears were put to rest by the end of the first page. The One Bed Rule by Rachel LaBerge was an absolute fantastic read! This was my first book by this author but won’t be my last.

I’m not going to say too much about the actual book (after all you should be surprised too!). I will tell you the characters had explosive chemistry…the spice was so hot! Even though this book is a novella, it didn’t feel rushed at all and we really got to know the characters. Seth’s story just broke my heart and his path to healing restored something in me. The cozy backdrop paired with how perfect Claire and Seth were for each made this book an absolute five star read for me. My only complaint? I wish it was longer!

Thank you to Rachel LaBerge for the ARC of this book and bringing us along in this fun journey!

Thoughts:
The was a fun little, spicy snowed in novella. Exactly what I was expecting! Our couple gets snowed in together and what do you know, there's only one bed! I actually kinda don't get why there was only one in an entire Inn....but I will let that go lol.

I enjoyed that our couple was a bit older here and that they crossed paths at their job. The spice was fun and I think the author did a good job at showing the connection between them but also making sure it felt real that they weren't all of a sudden in love 3 days later haha I think it ended well given the circumstances and setup.

Also I loved that they watched the Scream movies lol influenced me to finally watch it! Will this be something that sticks with me or that I really remember? Probably not lol but it was a fun little read if you are in the mood for a spicy little novella!

Thank you so much to the author for the advanced copy!

📖 The One Bed Rule by Rachel Laberge

“You know the thing about good girls, right?” I ask. She shakes her head. I lick her lower lip, the one she chews when she’s nervous, and put my hand above her, pressing into the tiles. “Good girls get to come first.”

This surprise novella from the wonderful Rachel Laberge was a perfect snowed in/only one bed romance!

The spice was off the walls HOT and could seriously give you 3rd degree burns. I loved seeing Claire & Seth fall in love. It may have started as just something to get out of their systems, but their chemistry was undeniable.

The coziness of the story gave all the best fall/winter vibes. This may be a novella but the characters have a ton of depth. The spice definitely plays a large part of their story but there was plenty of emotional development between them.

Overall this story was the perfect bonus story to pair with Rachel’s The Play Caller series!

I devoured this novella in one sitting — it’s that good. Fast-paced, flirty, and deliciously spicy, with characters you’ll fall head over heels for.

When Seth and Claire’s flight makes an emergency landing thanks to a snowstorm, they end up at a small-town inn that’s running on half power… and you guessed it — there’s only one bed left. 😏 Cozy cabin vibes, storm outside, sparks inside — the perfect setup for a steamy, heartfelt escape.

What really sold me? Seth and Claire are grown-ups (we love mature romance energy), and Seth? Total green flag, and a man who’s clearly done his therapy homework. The way he communicates, cares, and connects with Claire made me melt.

The chemistry? Off the charts. The spice? Chef’s kiss. And the way Rachel weaves in authentic mental health representation? Absolutely beautiful.

Highly recommend The One Bed Rule if you’re into:
💋 Only one bed (duh)

If Rachel writes it then i will read it! I loved seeing side characters from Your Play to Call get the sweetest (and spiciest) adventure in this book!

Claire is Willow's manager and flying home from a work trip in Miami to celebrate her birthday...alone. Seth is Willow's head of security who happens to be on the same flight as Claire.

When a surprise snowstorm reroutes their flight, they decide to crash at a local inn for the night thinking they can just drive to New York the next morning and go on their merry ways.

When half the inn is without power and rooms are sparse, they agree to room together and the chemistry is explosive as soon as they close the door!

Seth is full of green flags waving in the wind while Claire has wall after wall built up around her heart. The storm keeps them there longer than they thought and the relationship development is 10/10!

The story has the hottest spice, amazing chemistry and emotional connection that is perfection!
