The 70 years of legal battle, countless hearings by many benches, and 500 years of struggle concluded on November 9, 2019, when the Supreme Court of India delivered its judgment on the nation's most historic and long-pending case. Do you want to know what led to that judgment? You should not miss out on this book!

It's a well-articulated book that covers it all for you: the feelings of people related to the divine place of Ayodhya and Lord Ram, the circumstances of the 1500s, the nature of the case, the findings, the courtroom's deliberations, how the teams of lawyers from both sides presented the facts, and how all the translations, facts, dilemmas, and determination culminated in the final judgment.

I truly loved this book; the pages literally flew by because I didn't want to stop! And if you're someone who is interested in law and pursuing a career in this field, this book should be in your hands. You'll definitely love the way it's compiled and the crystal-clear way everything is mentioned. It’s so commendable!

"Case for Ram" arrives not merely as a legal
chronicle but as a mirror to India’s civilisational anxieties, its democratic resilience, and its long-buried historical wounds that finally found an organised voice in the courtroom. What happens when divinity is summoned to the witness stand? What does it mean when a deity becomes a juridical subject? and more importantly, what does this say about a society negotiating its faith through law while striving to remain anchored to constitutional morality?

The authors attempt to translate one of India’s most emotionally charged, politically contentious, and historically layered disputes into a form accessible to the lay reader. In doing so, they offer not just a factual retelling but a narrative of India itself, fractured, resilient, plural, and stubbornly democratic.

The book is ambitious. It seeks to document not only a landmark case but the theatre of law, the texture of arguments, and the extraordinary phenomenon of seeing religion, history, and jurisprudence braided together in real time and to a large extent, it succeeds.

One of the book’s core achievements is showing how the Supreme Court navigated faith without surrendering to it. The authors repeatedly emphasise that the verdict was not rooted in religious sentiment, but in legal evidence, archaeology, historical records, revenue documents, travelogues, and cross-examinations. The book paints faith not as an adversary of law, but as a subject that law can organise, interrogate, and ultimately make sense of. This nuance is rare and commendable.

A civilisation wounded for centuries can still seek justice through institutions instead of revolt. The authors highlight how India’s legal system, with all its delays and imperfections, became the final, legitimate arbiter of a 500-year-old civilisational claim. This is perhaps the most important thematic strand, and the book handles it with clarity and calmness.

K. Parasaran, 92 years old, devout, razor-sharp, becomes the book’s moral anchor. His age, discipline, and devotion sometimes feel overstated, but the intent is clear to show how lawyers are not just professionals but carriers of cultural memory and constitutional duty. The book also highlights internal tensions among Hindu litigants and the Muslim side’s challenges opening a rare window into the fragile human dynamics behind high-stakes litigation.

✍️ Strengths :

🔸The authors succeed in transforming dense legal strategy, cross-examinations, and technical evidence into prose that a layperson can navigate. This democratization of law is a major accomplishment.

🔸The book consciously avoids triumphalism. It acknowledges the strengths of the Muslim side, praises strong arguments from both camps, and does not vilify anyone. This fairness enhances its credibility.

🔸It reads like a legal thriller at times, courtroom drama, sudden twists from archaeological findings, moments of exhaustion, and the intellectual duels between India’s top legal minds.

🔸The book’s exploration of Ayodhya’s centuries-long struggle, backed by evidence and scholarship, provides much-needed depth.

🔸The personal reflections, Diwali delivery of the book, a sense of divine timing, the awe for legal titans, add a human touch that grounds the narrative.

✒️ Areas for Improvement :

▪️While his contribution is monumental, repeatedly stressing his age and fragility becomes distracting. It reduces the gravitas of his arguments by redirecting attention to his physicality rather than his intellect.

▪️At times, the book romanticises the Hindu litigant side, slipping into devotional admiration rather than neutral analysis. This dilutes the objectivity of the narrative.

▪️Though the authors praise opposing lawyers, the book does not spend enough time exploring the Muslim litigants’ internal dilemmas, strategies, or emotional journey. The absence of this angle keeps the book from achieving a fuller, more humane balance.

In conclusion, it is more than a courtroom chronicle; it is a civilisational document, capturing the emotional and legal anatomy of the Ram Janmabhoomi dispute with remarkable storytelling, legal insight, and cultural sensitivity. It is informative without being academic, emotive without being sentimental, and balanced without being bland. The book’s greatest merit is that it makes the reader reflect, not on victory or defeat, but on the Indian way of resolving even the most combustible conflicts: slowly, painfully, but ultimately through institutions.
It celebrates the Supreme Court not as an ivory tower but as a custodian of India’s conscience, and honours the legal fraternity for their dedication to fairness. In a world where divisive disputes often end in violence, this book shows that India still believes in the long, excruciating, but dignified path of justice.

The Legal War and The Faith That Endured

Case for Ram: The Untold Insider’s Story is a gripping and meticulously detailed account of one of the most significant legal battles in India’s history. Far from being a political or emotional commentary, the book offers a rare, behind-the-scenes look at the complex machinery of law and faith that defined the Ram Janmabhoomi case. It captures not only the courtroom drama but also the intellectual and moral weight carried by those who argued it.

The authors, both deeply familiar with the case, succeed in humanizing a process that might otherwise feel abstract. They take readers into the heart of the proceedings, showing how teams of lawyers pored over centuries-old documents, archaeological reports, and constitutional arguments to build a case rooted in evidence and precedent. Every legal strategy, every cross-examination, and every moment of uncertainty is presented with authenticity and care. This approach transforms what could have been a dry legal analysis into an engaging chronicle of persistence and purpose.

What stands out most is the authors’ ability to balance faith and law without letting either overpower the narrative. The book makes it clear that the final verdict was not a product of sentiment but the culmination of rigorous, transparent legal reasoning. By doing so, it provides much-needed clarity in a discourse often clouded by ideology.

Case for Ram is essential reading for anyone seeking to understand how faith-based conflicts are handled within a modern constitutional framework. It offers a deeper appreciation of the years of dedication, research, and resilience that shaped the outcome. This is more than a legal chronicle; it is a testament to the discipline and patience required when history, belief, and justice intersect.

"Case for Ram" is a rare non-fiction work that makes a complex and emotionally charged legal battle accessible, thoughtful, and deeply engaging.
Rather than overwhelming the reader with legal jargon, the book succeeds in simplifying intricate arguments while preserving their depth and seriousness.
Written by Anirudh Sharma and Sridhar Potaraju, both closely involved in the Ram Janmabhoomi case, the book offers an unprecedented behind-the-scenes account of one of India's most significant Supreme Court judgments. Their proximity to the proceedings lends the narrative authenticity and credibility, allowing readers to witness the courtroom not as spectators, but almost as participants.
One of the book's greatest strengths is its fairness. The authors acknowledge strong arguments from the opposing side and even commend rival lawyers, reflecting a balanced approach rooted in intellectual honesty. This sense of equilibrium mirrors the civilizational values of dharma and reason, making the narrative especially resonant for readers interested in the Indic and Hindu intellectual tradition.
The book is firmly grounded in facts, relying on court records and contemporaneous reports rather than speculation or rhetoric. At the center of the story stands
K. Parasaran, the legendary 92-year-old advocate, whose leadership and wisdom shaped the case. At the same time, the authors highlight the collective effort of the legal team, revealing the human dimension behind the historic verdict.
While not a fast-paced read, Case for Ram rewards patience with insight and reflection. It captures the drama of the courtroom with grace and restraint, blending law, faith, and history into a compelling narrative. For anyone seeking a clear, reasoned, and dignified account of the Ayodhya case, this book is well worth reading.

A meticulously researched book, "Case for Ram: The Untold Insiders’ Story" by Anirudh Sharma and Sridhar Potaraju provides an insider's perspective on the complex legal battle over the Ram Janmabhoomi temple site in Ayodhya. It chronicles the almost five-century struggle of the Hindu community to reclaim this sacred site, emphasizing that victory was achieved through persistent legal efforts rather than force. The narrative highlights Senior Advocate K. Parasaran's significant role in the case, despite his advanced age and health issues, and explores the various litigation efforts, the archaeological evidence of a pre-16th century temple, and oral testimonies supporting continuous worship. The book deftly navigates the legal intricacies of religious rights, property disputes, and opposing claims while also reflecting on Lord Ram's cultural and spiritual significance. Ultimately, it illustrates how faith, history, and law converged to restore a sacred space, making it essential reading for those interested in law, history, and religious studies.

Case for Ram is one of those rare books that doesn’t just document history — it walks you straight into the heartbeat of it. It asks a monumental question: What happens when divinity enters the docket? And then proceeds to answer it with legal precision, emotional depth, and a storyteller’s clarity.

The book takes us behind the courtroom doors of the Ram Janmabhoomi case, where faith, law, culture, and centuries-old memory converged. The authors don’t sensationalise; they illuminate. We witness how Lord Ram came to be represented as a legal person — a concept as fascinating as it is unprecedented — and how a 92-year-old legal stalwart, K. Parasaran, marshalled intellect, stamina, and spiritual conviction to lead one of the most complicated constitutional battles in Indian history.

This book is a crashing bore. The authors have taken the most exciting case of our times and converted it into a repetitive, colorless mess. The only redeeming feature is the closely observed nonagenarian K Parasaran whose life, beliefs, conduct and character shine through clearly. And that means the authors deliberately created the poor narrative and the publisher lacked a strong-willed editor who could have made this a book for the ages. What is one to make of Amish Tripathi’s endorsement? Perhaps, he writes equally poorly (haven’t read any of his outpourings).

Book is shallow, no solid and objective content.
It’s not even simple story telling. Very little value addition to knowledge. More than one third book is dedicated to personal health issue of advocates to show cause the emotional drama. Overall not a good read.

A honest, neutral attempt documenting Ram Janambhoomi case decided by the Supreme Court. K Parasaran's role, at such an advanced age, in the case is inspirational. It's rear to find books which discuss indian cases in such a threadbare manner unlike in the US/UK, where such books are a common occurrence. Hopefully, this book heralds such a trend in India especially, in times of live reporting/tweeting.
