Life In General is a collection of essays that explore experiences familiar to women as they cross the border into middle age: the empty nest, long term marriage, caring for aging parents, downsizing the family home, changes in the workplace, renewing passion for living. Readers will connect with these thoughtful, humorous, and inspiring pieces, and find new hope and ideas to make their own lives in general more fulfilling.
Becca Rowan is the author of Life In General and Life Goes On, both collections of personal essays about crossing the border into middle age. She performs as a pianist and as a member of Classical Bells, a professional handbell ensemble.
Born and raised in southeastern Michigan, she currently lives in Northville (a suburb of Detroit) with her husband of 42 years and their pampered Shih Tzus puppy, Lacey Li. She is an only child, who is also the daughter, wife, mother, and grandmother of only children!
This was such a comforting book to read. I felt like I was having tea with the author, listening to her stories and anecdotes. I also loved how the book was organized, not chronological but by sections. Such a small detail, but it really worked for me as a reader!
Becca Rowan's book, Life in General, is a delight to read. Becca thoughtfully writes about her experiences as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother and friend. Her writing is honest and heart-felt. The variety of stories had me nodding my head in agreement, wiping tears from my eyes, and left me smiling...about life, in general.
I love a book that makes me feel comforted and validated and this is what "Life in General" did for me. It was almost as if Becca and I were sitting together having a cup of coffee and chatting about our lives, that feeling of being understood and knowing you aren't the only one experiencing the ups and downs, joys and sorrows, laughter and tears of an extraordinarily ordinary life.
I thoroughly enjoyed Rowan's reflections on life - these snippets forced me to think more deeply about everything from aging parents to dogs to the way I love my home. The briefness of the chapters let me celebrate each piece as a morsel, rich chocolate for the heart. Highly recommend.
This book, Life In General, brings back many memories. I could relate to everything Becca Rowan wrote about. Read this book if you want a book you can't put down.
