When life becomes really chaotic and busy, as it is now, you desperately need an escape from reality. This book provided exactly what I needed most. It was my little sanctuary—a deep dive into a magical world.
This novel is a sequel to 'Ferrishyn, and while I enjoyed the first one, this book was significantly better. That's because it leaned less toward sci-fi and embraced more magic, which was precisely what I was hoping for.
What truly captivated me was the world-building; it was absolutely well-written. Furthermore, this book was an incredible emotional roller coaster. It successfully kept me on the edge of my seat from start to finish.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I only finished it about an hour ago, so I’m still processing all the intense feelings. I'm already looking forward to book three to discover what comes next!

This was another epic and emotional journey, exploring folklore and Fae legends, with plenty of conflict, tension, and consequences.
Jacob is trapped in Mag Mell, learns about his heritage and abilities, and has to train alongside the Fae royalty, where he learns how brutal and ruthless they can be.
Lucile is forced to work alongside Vox, she doesn't trust him, but needs his help to rescue Jacob. With their forced proximity she starts to question her feelings as Vox helps her stay focussed on the mission in-between his flirting and seduction, and she senses his change and redemption.
Lucile also has to face the repercussions of her choice to save Jacob. Hundreds are dead, she's lost the trust of the fen, and everyone sees her actions as selfish.
She's uncertain, confused, and volatile as her powers grow, and she struggles to face her chosen one role and keep her grip on reality, especially as new threats emerge to enchant her.

I loved seeing more of Vox and Jacob in their separate adventures, understanding their thoughts and motives, and seeing the shift in feelings and loyalties.
Lucile faces manipulation from those around her, and new enemies and allies are introduced which cause tension, drama, jealousy, and high stakes.

It's an intense battle of conflicted romance, avoiding corruption, fighting for survival and love, and experiencing transformation.
I was hooked from start to finish seeing the characters adapt to the dark and traumatic situations they face, not knowing who to trust, and seeing all the despair and anguish.
This was tragically haunting, and I can't wait for the next book.

(I honestly don't know if I'm team Jacob or team Vox 😲)

🍃"I'm inside your head now, little witch"

🍃"No one's coming to save you, sweetheart. No one's gonna help you or fix you. You've got to do it yourself. Do it or die"

🍃"He's just a man. A flawed, wounded, terrified man, filled with anger and regret"

🍃"She's had more than enough of being used and manipulated and put into positions where she's forced to choose"

⚠️ Protect yourself. Check trigger warnings.

Join Vox and Lucile as they escape Nolan to find Jacob. Discover where Jacob went and what happens next. Can the Fens and USUK put away their differences do fight something bigger than them?

Ivy Lewis has created this spectacular world, mixed between modern and fae. Putting hard hitting topics at the forefront of the books and the repercussions of those actions. The writing is always well written, and I loved seeing the softer side of Vox. He really is the a-hole loveable rogue, but can we really trust him?

The way Lucile is portrayed makes it seem like she's out of her depth. Sometimes she's this hard warrior and other times she's this meek little girl. Yet there's no real remorse for her actions. Both her and Jacob seem to think with their groins, and not their brains. Fighting temptation at every corner.

The book itself stays mainly in the fae world, exploring more folklore and fae legends. With a hefty sprinkling of love interests - will they, won't they tropes. Between the conflicted romances, battles within tribes, betrayal, manipulation, staying true to your values, showing remorse and making amends, this book will keep you on your toes. We're left, not knowing who to trust, and questioning who's telling the truth or omitting vital information.

Overall, this book kept me on my toes. The series is addictive and the world building is amazing. I cannot wait for the next book as that cliff hanger was just 🤌🏻

I'm definitely team Vox 🫶🏻

We make it to Mag Mell this time, facing creatures you never want to meet.
Vox is stepping up. Still, our trio gets separated, so we follow two stories this time.

Yes. You read that right. We "lost" Jacob!
And guess who is ready to take his place.
Yes, Lucile, your choices have consequences.

🔹️
"You are becoming something far more powerful."
🔹️

I enjoyed being back in this world. Would it not be exciting to roam new realms? It would not be without danger, though. Still. The magic and some places that seem like heaven on Ear.... on our plane? I do enjoy our humour.😂

It seems most of the realm is preparing for war.
Power and control seem to be what matters royals, military, and monstrous Fomorians alike.

Jacob? Tortured by Mag Mell's High Fae royalty with his worst nightmare. Forced to live like them. To fight like them.

🔹️
"I see you have accepted my gift."
🔹️

One simply does not say no to that guy *shivers*.

Blood of my blood is used. We find long lost families, perhaps even family we did not know we had.

Pushing herself and her powers, I am beginning to worry about Lucile.

Go to the farm and I will meet you there...

Are you Team Jacob or Team Vox?

This was an amazing follow on from Ferrishyn book one!

Lucile is learning more about the human condition, while Jacob is discovering a secret heritage and more about a different way of life.

The book literally continues on from that cliff hanger ending of Ferrishyn. Jacob is on his own and Lucile is alone with Vox as each tries to get back to the other.

I love the intimacy between Lucile and Vox, not the steamy kind, but the connection that grows between them. He is a tough guy with a hard exterior but there is a little bit of a doughy centre.

This book gives more insight to Lucile and her self discovery, navigating feelings she doesn't comprehend. There is also more about Vox and more of an understanding of why he is the way he is.

I'm not too sure about Jacob this time around. I mean he is still loyal to Lucile and wants to get back to her because he loves her, but I'm not convinced that the two of them are end game.

There are new characters, more secrets and a lot more action and I was hooked right from the start.

After yet another epic cliff hanger ending I will be devouring book 3!

From the opening chapter, Mag Mell drew me straight back into this world of magic, danger, and tangled emotions. The tension between Lucile and Vox practically crackles and Jacob continues to be such a grounding, emotionally intelligent presence that it was impossible not to love them both. I found myself feeling everything for these characters: frustration, admiration, heartbreak, even laughter in places.

The author tackles love, temptation, trauma, and redemption with such honesty that it goes far beyond the typical fantasy love triangle (if you knew what team you were on in book 1, you might not be so sure by the end of this!). Every relationship has weight and consequence, which made it so easy to connect with the characters and understand their choices, whether or not I agreed with them.

The world-building is absolutely gorgeous — full of striking detail and atmosphere. The action scenes are cinematic (there’s one in particular that left my mouth hanging open!) and the pacing is good. I could feel the folklore element more in this book and really admire how military and magic just works. I also appreciated the thoughtful way it explores mental health, power, and the human cost of war without ever losing the magic or momentum of the story.

By the end, I was equal parts satisfied and eager for the next instalment. Highly recommended for readers who love layered and morally grey characters, complex relationships, folklore (you'll end up wanting to find out more after this!), and a touch of spice!

Thank you to the author for my review copy.

Mag Mell is a genre-blending powerhouse that pulls no punches. Dystopian grit, fantastical lore, sci-fi tech, high-stakes action, and tangled romance all collide. It’s emotionally charged and relentlessly paced, with trauma, regret, and fractured loyalties simmering beneath every twist.

What really stood out to me was how the story unfolds through the FMC’s eyes. We’re not handed easy answers. Instead, we uncover truths alongside her, piece by piece, in a way that feels immersive and earned.

The romantic dynamics are bold and complicated, adding layers of tension that mirror the instability of the world itself. Power, history, and desire are constantly in conflict, and the result is messy in a way that feels intentional and narratively rich. These dynamics challenged me, particularly the reintroduction of a previously antagonistic character as a love interest, adding layers of discomfort and complexity that felt deliberate.

This series doesn’t play it safe. It’s emotionally raw, narratively ambitious, and written with clear love for the characters and their world. I’m fully invested in the journey, I’ll be rooting for the FMC, for clarity, and for more of the immersive storytelling that makes this world so addictive.

Another fantastic read, straight from the first chapter you are a catapulted in a completely different situation than the first book. Our main characters are now separated and are both learning things about themselves that we were not expecting. Relationships get complicated and new players get thrown in to tip the balance. I really have trust issues and I still don’t trust anyone, everyone seems to have an agenda and that’s what I loved about this book, you feel Lucille’s will to connect, but also want to warn her that they may not be truthful. This book is great and the introduction of new villains ( and what it means for Lucille ) leave loads of room not to be able to guess what’s gonna happen in book 3 - which is fantastic 🤣

Mag Mell is a dystopian Fantasy/ Romantasy, with a great dash of Sci-fi and is the sequel to Ferrishyn, which I also read some time ago and throughly enjoyed.

But I must say, I did find Mag Mell to be the better of the two as as it leaned more towards the themes of magic and less Sci-fi, which I think suits this story wonderfully.

It's a fast paced read, packed to the brim with interesting, well developed characters with decent depth.

The world building is rich and immersive and has that impressive quality in that you can imagine the people and places world in your mind clearly, which is a must for me.

At just over 650 pages, it's quite a hefty tome, but for me, it really didn't feel that long, and I flew through this read in four sittings.

5 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 's from me.

I am FERAL for this series. Mag Mell is darker, sharper and even more addictive than book one, the kind of sequel you hope for and that has you ignoring real life to keep reading.

What to expect:
🐍 Fae courts & bloody politics
🐍 Trauma & top-tier angst
🐍 Slow-burn Lucile/Vox tension (unhinged levels)
🐍 Magic, monsters & rich Ferrishyn lore
🐍 Found family moments
🐍 Another vicious cliffhanger

Ivy’s writing is so immersive and fast-paced; there’s zero fluff, just constant tension, and that perfect “I would burn the world for you” energy. If you’re in your fae/angsty sci-fi fantasy era, you NEED Mag Mell on your shelf.
