The Church on the Hill

Rate this book
When Rohan Hydebrook moved to the small town of Baie Blanche, he did so with the intention of turning over a new leaf, and that included trying to get his mental health under control.

At first, everything seems to be going well, but eventually the hallucinations return, stronger and more insistent than ever, and Rohan struggles to distinguish what is real and what is not, all while being pursued by the dead priest of the church on the hill.

Born in 1992, Achilles was raised to be a girl and ended up as a man with a dry sense of humour and a love for defying expectations. Every piece is choc-a-bloc with smut, fun, and, uh, anti-capitalism.

Achilles loves erotic horror, erotic eroticism, and hot tea with milk and sugar. When he's not writing, he's gaming or thinking about writing.

Anyway, come for the smut, stay for the jokes about existential dread.

I read the blurb for this one right before I started it and then went and yelled to Amanda about how excited to read it I was because it seemed like everything I have ever wanted in a book, and you know what, it truly was.

I mean a main character moves to a small town and he is then haunted by a dead priest, what more could I ask for? And the answer is absolutely nothing as this seemed like this book was made just to please me, because it hit all of my buttons so so well.

Everything about this novella from the vibes, the ambiance to the tone and subject matters just really did it for me. This was such a me book and I had the best of time reading it.

I'm gonna need someone to option this for a movie ASAP. It's so short it has no right to be as cinematic and captivating as it was, but alas, every page played out in my head like an old horror film and I fear I am completely obsessed.

It was at times gory, often suspenseful and eerie feeling, but there were also a couple moments of unexpected but well used humor. I truly could read this again and again and enjoy it every time.
