Shut Up and Jingle Me

Rate this book
A grumpy trainer. A rookie goalie. One blizzard, one bed, and way too many Christmas lights.

The rookie goalie with the Christmas-movie smile was never supposed to get under my skin.

He’s loud, relentless, and far too good at seeing through the walls I’ve spent years building. I only agreed to that damn calendar shoot to shut him up. Now his laughter lives rent-free in my head.

When the blizzard hit, I figured I could survive a few days of his cheer. I didn’t plan on him looking at me like I was worth unwrapping.

We said it was just to keep warm. Just a weekend thing.

But then he keeps showing up—at the rink, in my bed, in my dreams—and suddenly I’m the one breaking all my own rules.

He still believes in holiday magic. I stopped believing a long time ago.

So why does he make me want to start again?

Shut Up and Jingle Me is the second book in the Full Contact series written by Kit Jade.

💜 hockey
💜 grumpy x sunshine
💜 snowed in
💜 holidays
💜 MM
💜 🌶🌶🌶🌶

Eli loves playing as the goalie on the college hockey team. He loves that and Christmas too, and by Christmas it’s everything Christmas especially the peppermint lattes. One of his other favorite things to do is sing Christmas songs during practice as loud as he can because it also has the added benefit of getting the attention of the athletic trainer, Max. It should be a sun to be that handsome and broody. Can he get Max’s attention more, maybe make him smile? Will he get to talk to Max more maybe outside of practice or games? Will Max be able to get rid of the nickname Grinch the team gave him?

This was a cute story and addition to this series. We get more world building on and off campus. Max and Eli are the very definition of grumpy sunshine. You also add in a snowed in trope and chefs kiss to the romance. It was a fun, cozy, and spicy holiday season story that included Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Years. I really enjoyed reading Max and Eli’s story and can’t wait to see who gets a story next.

This book ended up surprising me so much! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. What I thought would be a quick and fast relationship between the two main characters ended up so much more! I loved Eli's loud/happy personality and how he really brought Max out of his grumpy shell. Honestly this was SO adorable and the way they fell in love was absolutely perfect. Also the smut was GREAT too so that was a huge plus. Loved it!

DNF before chapter 5.

I was SO excited for this book. It looks simple but holiday-focused and fun. However…

Nope, I’m out. Didn’t finish the book and have no plans to do so. The vibes are too creepy. It does one of the things I’ve realized I absolutely hate in books about queer characters. With this being done to queer characters I am uncomfortable and I just can’t do it and no one can make me. I can deal with certain inaccuracies or weird stuff or other things with people writing about groups of people they are not a part of, but I cannot do this kind of thing I’ve realized. Nope. I’m definitely out.

Max Calder is a cis white gay man. He’s has dark hair and green eyes. Unknown age, but he is an undergraduate in college for sports medicine and functions as the team athletic trainer (sports medicine person). He’s a bit grumpy but a good guy and cares about team a lot. He drinks his coffee black. Against his will (though he doesn’t fight it very hard), he thinks Eli is hot and sweet despite his best efforts.

Eli is a cis white gay man. He’s also in college. Also unknown age and an undergraduate. He’s the goalie of the college team. He’s the sunshine of the duo. He loves Christmas and singing and lattes and being cheeky. He’s thought Max was hot from the moment he saw him, and got a bit of a growing crush after seeing his profile on a hookup app.

Did not like:
—the creepy photographer woman who spent the shoot drooling over the college boys and telling them how sexy/hot they are. This reads as fetishy to me (a woman attracted to men with a fetish for queer men, specifically) and it was very uncomfortable. Also extremely unprofessional and could definitely be considered sexual harassment. This is the second book I’ve see this crap in and it’s not good. Having a woman creep on and “facilitate” the flirting between two gay men by objectifying them both and together is super creepy and makes my skin crawl. There’s a way to have a photo shoot be used in a romance book without having a woman creep on two gay men. And then writing the gay men like they’re preening under the sexualized attentions of a “professional” photographer woman.
It’s not the creepiest I’ve ever seen but that is a heck of a high bar. But it always feels like a creepy insert of the imagined audience of women attracted to men, and written by the same kind of people. Maybe it’s just me, but I can’t stand it.
The photographer, a woman with an oversized scarf and a camera she clearly knows how to wield like a weapon, claps her hands.

“Perfect,” the photographer murmurs, snapping away. “Hold that—yes. God, the chemistry between you two is insane. This is hot.”

“Wow,” the photographer says, lowering the camera just a fraction. “If this doesn’t sell out, nothing will.”

“Closer,” the photographer calls. “We want it to sell, you know the people that buy these are looking for sexy hockey players.”

“Perfect,” she says, snapping shot after shot. “Don’t move—Calder, tilt your chin toward him just a bit. Eli, keep that grin. Gorgeous. You two could sell anything.”

“Okay,” she says after a few more shots, lowering her camera. “That’s the one. Perfect. You can untangle yourselves—unless you’d rather stay that way.”

We finish in silence, handing the lights back. She’s already setting up for the next group, but I catch her muttering, “Hot as hell,” under her breath.

Read outta order, wanted a Christmas Story

So I want to preference this review by saying that I read these books out of order because I was looking for a holiday story and these books are billed as stand alone. That being said there were some references to team mates in the middle that I would assume would be from book 1 as well as some potential foreshadowing for books 3.

With that out of the way, here’s what I think about this book as a stand alone story. I enjoyed it. I was hooked quicker than most stories of this length. Normally it take about 100-125 pages for a book this length to get to the point where I want to read instead of do other things. I read it in about 3 days off and on and by about page 200 I wanted nothing to do but read the book. The story pulls us in and the initial spark between the MCs turns to a fire rather quickly. Normally I am not a fan of fast and heavy in a book that is a stand alone. I do enjoy character development but this felt natural. There was enough of the characters personality and internal monologue to really establish their characters. Even though the spice picked up quickly it again didn’t fell rushed or out of place there was enough to sell the college lovers without going pornographic all the time. There was a nice balance of plot and smut.

My biggest 👏👏 needs to go to the epilogue. I HATE when authors set us up with great story lines and characters and leave us wanting more with not future to get it. This book delivers. We get a quick fast forwarded and a time jump. Again was it enough 🤷🏼‍♂️ questionable. Did it satisfy my need to know how the story ends? Yes. Although there definitely felt like there was totally more to this story based on how the current story finished and how we got to the future finish. There’s a line from Max that says something to the effect of we’ve had years to perfect being professional at work and anything but at home. I would’ve loved to see how this growth happened. Did they get caught? Did Max start his job where he did bc of its proximity to Eli’s family? Did Max wait for Eli to graduate? We get a time jump of 1 year then 4 years so in theory Eli could’ve been 18 to Max’s 23 based on the clues we get about Max being younger and Eli in grad school.

Never the less, this is a wonderful holiday driven mlm story. Can’t wait to read the other two books in the series.

So… Christmas, two boys and hockey… let’s go further: one’s a goalie… that’s all I need, and I’m already melting.
I loved @kit_jade_author previous book, but this one… it’s going to be hard to top 🥺

Eli is the sweet, kind, always-smiling sunshine character who absolutely loves Christmas — and he just so happens to be the team’s goalie. He’s been completely smitten for months with Max, the always-grumpy athletic trainer who used to play hockey, hates Christmas, never really smiles, yet somehow can’t resist being drawn to Eli.

When they’re forced to participate in a calendar photoshoot together and then get snowed in at the dorms, emotions run wild — and, well, we all know what comes next. 🔥 Spicy moments, lots of playful teasing, cooking together, snowball fights, cozy cuddles (purely because there’s no power or heating, of course 😏🙄😂). Slowly but surely, Max — the guy the team calls the Grinch — starts to soften around Eli.

They’re so adorable as they both realize they’re in love, yet neither of them says it out loud because it’s “too soon” and they’re “not ready.”
Christmas with Eli’s family is pure magic and absolutely heartwarming — Max finally gets the love and acceptance from Eli’s family that he never received from his own. But when things take a bad turn, Max does the only thing he’s ever known how to do: he shuts down and pushes everyone away…

The love they feel for each other shines through it all — they’d both be willing to give up what they love most to protect the other, even as their relationship falls apart. But in the end, Max pulls himself together and does what he needs to do so they can finally get their well-deserved HEA. 💕

This book was absolutely fantastic, and I’m so thankful for the ARC! 🥰

“Grump vs. Rookie: The Blizzard Wins.”
Rating: ★★★★☆
Spice: 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Tropes: Grumpy/Sunshine • Hockey + Forced Proximity • Holiday Fluff • Snowed-In

Max doesn’t do rookies. Or Christmas lights. Or feelings. Honestly, the man would probably fight a gingerbread cookie out of sheer principle. But Eli? The rookie goalie with a smile straight out of a holiday movie? Yeah… Max never stood a chance.

Eli is loud, relentless, and way too emotionally observant for Max’s carefully grumpy existence. The kid sees right through him — and Max hates it in that “I’m already halfway in love and deeply annoyed about it” way. Watching Max break every rule he set for himself just because Eli asks with that stupid grin? Peak chef’s kiss romance.

Their chemistry hums from page one, but it ignites once the blizzard hits and they’re stuck with one bed, too many Christmas lights, and absolutely zero chill. Max keeps pretending it’s “just to stay warm,” meanwhile Eli is looking at him like he’s the best present under the tree.

It’s sweet, a little spicy, and full of that signature Full Contact charm Kit Jade writes so damn well. My only note is the trigger warning: parents rejecting their child upon coming out — it’s handled gently, but readers should know going in. Also small third act break up but is a HEA

If you love holiday romance with a grump who melts like a snowman under a space heater, this one delivers.

Awww… I absolutely loved Shut Up and Jingle Me. This MM grumpy/sunshine, opposites-attract holiday romance is pure seasonal comfort with a surprising emotional depth.

Eli is that one overly enthusiastic, relentlessly cheerful Christmas person we all know—the kind who sings holiday songs until everyone around him threatens to send a puck his way instead of into the net. As a hockey goalie who loves peppermint lattes and sweets, he radiates sunshine in every scene. Naturally, this makes him the perfect foil for Max, the grumpy athletic trainer nicknamed the Grinch.

When they’re locked on campus over Thanksgiving, Eli finally gets the chance to break through Max’s carefully built walls. I loved the slow, heart-tugging dance of their relationship. Max lowers his defenses cautiously, step by step, while Eli is endlessly patient—happy to accept whatever closeness Max can offer at the moment.

This story is warm, hopeful, and deeply comforting, centering on found family and emotional safety. It touched my core in the best way, and I didn’t want to rush a single page. A truly cozy holiday read that’s absolutely worth your time.

Sometimes the dedication sets the tone for the rest of the book and this is one of those books. The dedication reads “ For anyone who hasn’t had the parents they deserve, I hope you find the family that will cherish and love you for who you are.” that both sucked me in because that fits with who I am but also really clue you into who these characters are. It’s not just grumpy cat meets golden retriever because the golden retriever is the epitome of sunshine and sugar and Christmas joy. He takes his golden retriever energy to a whole new level. And the poor grumpy black cat tries to hold onto his grump, but he just can’t help himself who wouldn’t fall in love with the embodiment of Christmas joy. “but I’m starting to wonder—are insults your love language, Calder? Because if so, you’re practically serenading me. Impossible, insufferable, ridiculous… they are never-ending. It’s heart-warming, honestly.” it’s a delightful story and perfectly timed for the Christmas season.

“ The Grinch didn’t steal Christmas. He just fell in love with it.”

This book appealed to me right from the start, and I wasn't disappointed. Normally, Christmas love stories aren't really my thing, but this one... this one... I haven't found the perfect word yet, because the story is just so wonderful and special.
It's not overloaded with all the idealized Christmas clichés, where suddenly everything is wonderful and great. But Christmas resonates on every page. It's hidden everywhere and carries the two of them closer together on little white clouds until they can no longer be separated.
It's sweet, heartbreaking, and yet so normal that you just have to love them.
Max takes us on an emotional rollercoaster ride, and Eli makes you want to hug him and tell him to stop singing so loudly. They are perfect for each other, and yet there are so many obstacles in their way.
I love this story, especially the fact that there isn't some kind of magic that suddenly makes all the obstacles disappear. Problems don't just vanish into thin air in real life, and they don't here either.
My favorite Christmas story and an absolute must-read.

Shut Up and Jingle Me was an absolute delight from start to finish. Kit Jade has once again created a story full of heart, warmth, and characters you instantly fall in love with.

Eli was such a sweet, lovable character—his joy for Christmas was contagious, and he’s the kind of person you wish you could be best friends with in real life. He’s relatable, funny, and a genuine bright spot on every page.

Max, on the other hand, brings depth and emotion to the story. A little rough around the edges with a tough past, he’s the character you can’t help but root for. You feel his pain, you want to protect him, and most of all, you want him to experience the love he deserves.

Together, Eli and Max were pure magic. Their chemistry, growth, and connection made them the perfect couple, and I found myself cheering for them the entire way through.

This book was everything I hoped it would be—heartfelt, hilarious, emotional, and incredibly charming. Kit Jade truly hit it out of the park with this one. Another favorite for the shelf. 🎄❤️📚

Kit Jade's Shut Up and Jingle Me (Full Contact Book 2) was a cute Christmas and sports romance.

You have a grumpy trainer who is alone and has walls thick and high to protect his wounded heart. As well as sunshine personified, the sugary sweet goalie who loves peppermint lattes, sugar cookies, and singing loudly for all to hear!
They get stuck on campus over Thanksgiving break thanks to a blizzard but they make the most of it as the tension that's Ben building between them finally explodes. In several glorious spicy scenes.

Kit has a way of making the situations in her novels feel very real and messy and it can be heartbreaking and sad, and frustrating but it is also so beautiful when you get to see the characters you fall in love with get their happily ever after. You will Love Max and Eli. For full effect read with a large peppermint latte and a Christmas candle. It really brings everything together! Give it a read I think you will love it!

Eli was a bundle of joy all wrapped up in Christmas lights, from the moment he appeared on the ice I was smiling, his off key singing, a smile that would be seen from space, his excellent goalie skills, I just wanted to bottle up his enthusiasm.
Max was more serious, trainer for the team, the complete opposite to Eli, but there were reasons. But together Eli and Max make a great partnership.
Told from both POVs I got the whole picture and whilst is was spread over a few months, it did not feel rushed, the story flowed smoothly.
I just loved Eli's family, I love an over the top family and I could clearly imagine the adorable chaos they cause.
This was so different to Shut up and Score and I loved every minute. Eli and Max story was great for the Christmas Holiday, although I liked it so much I would read it again whatever the date. I am eager to see who is next for this series and I have my wishes to who I want to read about.

This was so much more than I was expecting from a Christmas story!! Max & Eli are couple goals!! The chemistry between them was off the charts!!! The flirty banter, stolen glances and holiday snowstorm all came together to create the perfect backdrop for falling in love. Although it is a fluffy Christmas story, there was still a lot of heartfelt and emotional moments that had me laughing or crying. Max was dealing with so much past trauma & hurt and Eli was the perfect person to help him start to heal. So if you’re looking for a story filled with festive songs sang off key, teasing friends and family, tons of spice & steam, and more peppermint lattes than a single person should drink, this is the one!

This book has all of the wonderful, warm-fuzzy characters I am coming to appreciate in a Kit Jade book, but it also has a little holiday spice (and I don't mean cinnamon!). Eli is so sweet and he just wants everyone to share the Christmas spirit like he does. He's warm and funny and just want to wrap him up in a hug and take him home. Max, in contrast, is somewhat dark and withdrawn. When you find out why, it makes total sense and honestly, you just want to hug the stuffing out of him, too. You really root for him to get his happily ever after because he definitely deserves it.

Watching these two fall for each other goes slowly at first. Then they get stuck together because of a blizzard and things accelerate with every snowflake that falls! It's sweet but also spicy and I enjoyed it immensely.

A holiday MM hockey romance that delivered more than I expected. I went in thinking I’d get a quick festive novella, but this is a fully developed story with emotional weight. The forbidden attraction and secret longing are in part fueled by one MC’s painful past—shaped by the effects of homophobia —which gives the romance real depth.

The book is also very spicy. The two MCs bring a grumpy–sunny chemistry that combusts every time their banter takes a step in an intimate direction. The book leans into cozy holiday tropes: found family, festive movie nights, peppermint lattes, and over the top decorations.

I loved this book. Kit Dade once again delivers a romance with more heart and substance than expected, wrapped up in heat and holiday sparkle. Highly recommend

This was a wonderful story that grabbed me from the outset since the characters seemed so genuine and full of personality. Eli was a bundle of joy, bringing a smile to my face and always seeming so positive and lovable. I enjoyed the contrast to Max's 'grumpy' vibes even though it was obvious that Eli was the one person he was unable to resist. The character development and speed of their relationship was good, they had great chemistry together and I continued to enjoy the world building started in book 1. There were plenty of sweet moments, a few where I was shouting at them on my kindle and a lovely HEA that fit them perfectly. Overall, it's a great mm romance and I'm excited to keep reading stories in this series.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Holiday chaos meets The Grinch, what a match. Two men with very different experiences of life and family come together on a college hockey team. Eli is Christmas personified, singing carols off key, decorating his dorm room from stem to stern. Eli wears his heart on his sleeve. Max has built walls around his feelings and his heart. Eli knows that he wants Max but to get him he's going to have to break through those walls one Peppermint late at a time. Despite his outward appearance Max is interested in the chaos that is Eli, but admitting that would cross so many lines and leave him vulnerable to more heartache. An interesting take on a college romance where persistence wins.

How adorable were these guys. Grumpy met sunshine and sunshine had an impact. Eli, an adorable goalie who is a sweetie with the joy of Christmas in his heart. He is the kind of guy you want to be around. And then there is Max. There have been tough times in his life and it shows. When Eli and Max are paired together and then stranded together by a blizzard that gives them the proximity needed for Eli to get past Max's defenses and for this pair to fall in love. They are so cute and so inept at sharing their feelings and they had feelings aplenty. So good!

The first book in this series got me in the feels. This book hit much harder! This book had me in tears! The things Max’s character endured should not happen. Ever.
I loved Ava’s character. She’s the mom every queer kid deserves and needs. I loved that she was included.
Max and Eli maybe didn’t start out as the best couple, but meh. I mean who really does? The pining was there, but life was there too. They end up making it happen and ultimately make it through a bunch of feelings and time to an HEA. It was a story worthy of a sappy Hallmark Christmas movie.

I absolutely loved how strikingly different Max and Eli are. Eli is pure sunshine—a happy-go-lucky bundle of joy whose energy lights up every scene. Max, by contrast, is his complete opposite, he's serious and reserved, somewhat distant. Despite these differences, they complement each other beautifully, creating a partnership that feels natural and perfectly balanced. I also loved how refreshing this felt compared to book one—it stood firmly on its own while still fitting seamlessly into the series. And the forbidden romance element? Absolute perfection. Every moment between Max and Eli felt earned, emotional, and deeply satisfying.

The banter between Eli and Max had me laughing so hard. Eli is so extra OTT about Christmas, and I love him. Max and his Grinchy grumpy self definitely grew on me. They balanced each other well, I really loved their dynamic, and they were so hot together.

Because tomorrow his teammates will see the marks, tease him about some faceless hook-up. And even if the guys notice in the locker room, they’ll never know it’s me. And God help me, I’m starting to hate that.

I want to believe him. God, I want to. But the scars under my skin won’t let me. Because if my own family can do that to me for one mistake, how the hell can I trust anyone else not to do the same?

Eli is exactly what Christmas is about; he's cheery, loves over sugared drinks, decorating and his family. Max is the opposite; he's broody, hates the holidays and doesn't have a family that supports him. When this odd couple is paired for the annual calendar, as December's men of course, Eli throws no less than 10 ideas at Max in an attempt to crack through his icey exterior. Max does his best to keep his distance, but one snow storm changes everything. MM, hockey romance, with the grumpy sunshine relationship that makes you love them both.

A gentle read with emotional depth, I did end up shedding a tear after the beach scene—poor Eli. Up until that moment, I sympathised with Max and understood why he was a "grinch' for Christmas. After that scene, I nearly wanted to throw my device.

I love Christmas-themed romance books and adored Eli with his infectious, boisterous, and heartfelt love of all things Christmas. Watching him gradually coax Max out of his shell, one terrible Christmas song at a time, was both humorous and adorable.

This was such a fun Christmas read. 🎄🎅📖 It was super easy to get into, and once I started, I didn’t want to stop.

The story follows Max, a grumpy trainer, and Eli, a hockey goalie who basically lives for Christmas. 🏒🎁 Their grumpy/sunshine vibe is great, the snowed-in moments are cute, and there’s plenty of holiday fun (and peppermint!) to keep things interesting.

It’s a steamy hockey romance with dual POV and all the cozy Christmas feels. 🔥🏒💖 Definitely a great festive pick!

I could not have loved "Shut Up and Jingle Me" by Kit Jade more. This was such a warm and fun story. Eli could light the world with his personality and charm. Outwardly, Max is the polar opposite, but deep down he shines. Watching Max succumb to Eli's charms was so enjoyable. The chemistry between the two is electric and they sizzle when they are together. Their HEA is a slow burn as Max has some baggage to overcome to get there but the journey is worth it. I cannot wait for more from this author.

Eli, the rookie goalie and Max, the team trainer are paired up for the Christmas calendar. Eli is crushing on Max and is sunshine personified filled with Christmas spirit. Max is a grumpy guy who ignores him, until he can't. It's humorous with lines like " mugging a Hobby Lobby". It's steamy and romantic - you can feel the stirring of desire leaping off the pages along with the longing expressed by both. It's sweet and sincere and special. Shut Up and Jingle Me is an opposites-attract romance I genuinely enjoyed. Eli’s relentless optimism colliding with Max’s guarded, grumpy exterior creates sharp tension, and watching Max’s defenses slowly unravel is deeply satisfying. The relationship develops at a solid pace, allowing room for emotional baggage, meaningful growth, and believable intimacy. Their chemistry has real bite, balancing heat with vulnerability, and the happily-ever-after feels earned rather than easy. A strong, engaging addition to the series and one I had a great time reading.

These christmas books will be the death of me. I'm all warm and cozy inside. This book was soo worth it to read. Think I found an amazing new mm author.

I devoured this book. Max and Eli are so precious. They made me tear up. The kiss in the snow? The snowball fight? The peppermint sugar latte? Everything that happened touched my heart in the best way possible. I was giggling and kicking my feet the whole time. Daniel and Luke were the kinda friends will have your back and make you laugh at the most silly things. I love them sm.

This book definitely needs more attention🎄❄️🏒🫂🎁🧸
