The good news: this is the finale of the Dead Awake series, and finally we're getting to see what happens to the characters who've survived the harrowing events of the previous five volumes! It's been a long road for everyone, and the outcome wasn't looking good at all. Now that the end is reached, after so much has happened to the small town of Edgemore, after all the horrors experienced and all the loss amassed, it's time to see where it was all heading to.
The bad news: yes, this is the finale of the Dead Awake series - whatever comes next, for most of the cast it is definitely over. I'm sad to see it end, but how much can a reader take, after all these shocking twists, the gory story turns, the utter destruction of friends and families? Edgemore is no more, evacuation is firmly on the horizon, and whoever makes it to the docks may be saved; or not. Mostly not. This series has been bleak, and the last volume certainly hits hard and fast. But it's the end for so many of the characters!
Strangely, however, this does not feel like a finale at all. The infected keep changing, the architect of the infection is still at large, the resolution seems postponed. What is going on? I have the sense that something's still brewing, something's still growing. Or am I overly suspicious? On the other hand, practically all the plotlines are resolved, the fate of almost all characters determined. So if something further happens, it'll be new. The infection is indeed spreading, and I do hope we see the survivors again!

This was the final book in this series and I'm sad to see it end.
I've really enjoyed getting to know the characters and seeing their growth with each book.
Alice's slow descent, both physically and mentally, as the virus began to alter her, was interesting. Especially as she tried to fight it every step of the way.
I did like the ending, but it left a few things open, so I wanted to know whether certain characters got to safety and survived or not.
Egglemore, the small English town, scene of an infection that obliterated normality. It started with Alice the journalist travelling to get the scoop on what is happening from Olive, daughter of the scientist, Sonia. Charles, homeless and compassionate, Rowan, a long distance lorry driver with a temper, Maggie, just wanting to protect her daughter, Claire and Todd, a teenager who has nowhere else to go, and it ends with the survivors hoping for rescue.
The battle for survival rages on and whilst some accept their fate others will stop at nothing to escape. Revenge is served and battle lines are drawn.
An incredible six part series that takes the zombie theme and twists it into something new and terrifying. The everyday turned to slaughter and destruction. The speed of the collapse of society is shocking to behold, the cruelty of ordinary uninfected people is brutal and the acts committed show how quickly humanity is broken when faced with no consequences.
The human stories here are the true horror, whether inflicted or affected, both show the fragility of our lives, the simmering violence beneath the surface of a normal town and the price paid for playing god dressed as science.
Incredible pulse pounding high octane storytelling where you really care who gets out and who pays for their crimes, what an explosive satisfying ending but I will miss my monthly trips to Egglemoor!
All six books are available on KU, read them you will not be sorry, the best, most human zombie story I have read!
It has so many ways it could go...and I feel it went wrong in every way.
Sonia was irredeemable at the end, I was praying for her death, yet everyone around her died, and she seemed to get away, although that was left often. The new disease that Lifelong was releasing was also just left up in the air and I hated that.
Todd had such a big build up throughout the series, coming to terms with who he was, becoming stronger and more resilient...and it ended without him having a chapter at the end, and he needed help with everything, also disappointing.
Alice was just weird, she was infected but not infected...she only made decisions to harm others, and died giving up...Huh?
Maggie was the only one I kind of felt had a rounded story, she lost her way but still kept fighting, she got to put Claire out of her misery, and she was safe in the end.
This series has so much it could've been but it kept just making decisions that didn't really go anywhere or make sense. It's not one that ended on a high for me.
5/10.

This is the explosive finale this series deserved! After five books of chaos, heartbreak, and tension, Sanctuary brings everything crashing together in this gripping battle for survival.
As the infection tightens its grip on the town, the secrets that have been simmering in the background finally come to light. The survivors we've been following since book one face their final choices, fueled by hope, revenge, or the will to make it out alive. It all hits harder because we’ve spent six books with these people. And the ending delivers exactly what it needs to: closure and that final gut punch of emotion.
A brilliant end to a wild and amazing zombie saga. If you’ve been following the series, Sanctuary is absolutely worth it — you need to get back to Egglemore and witness it all!
Thank you Rob for letting me read an advanced copy!
This series really has been something special and the last book is absolutely no exception to that!
As with the previous books, this one picks up right after the events of the last book and dives straight into the action. The fast pacing of the story keeps you hooked and leaves you eager to find out the fates of the characters we have grown to love (or hate).
The story was filled with plenty of gore which was very well written. There were also some really light, sweet moments which almost made you forget the type of book you were reading! The ending was also satisfying and nicely wrapped up the outcomes of each of the characters.
I cannot recommend this series enough. You really don't want to miss out on this one!
