For Sam, every moment counts. Life is precious and finite. He’s grateful for every second and hasn’t taken anything for granted for the past five years. With his two best friends, lovable cat, and his bucket list, he’s determined to value every experience and all the people around him. Even the grumpy new town resident who Sam can’t leave alone, no matter how many times the handsome man tells him to.
Lukas is a vampire exhausted with humanity, bored with everything, and wishing the council would put him out of his misery. Instead, they gave him orders that had him moving to a small town with a lot of nosy people. His love of ice cream is the only reason he begrudgingly deals with humans—one of whom in particular he can’t seem to shake.
Together, Sam and Lukas awaken parts of themselves they never knew existed. With each passing day, Lukas unknowingly helps Sam cross something off his bucket list. But just when life seems perfect, it comes crashing down.
For the first time, Lukas wants forever so he can spend it with Sam, only to hit roadblocks at every turn. Sam has come to terms with his fate. Born on the edge of goodbye, the only thing Sam isn’t prepared for is falling in love and the possibility of leaving it all behind.
The Edge of Goodbye is a standalone M/M paranormal romance with a strong HEA and no cliffhanger
Davidson King, always had a hope that someday her daydreams would become real-life stories. As a child, you would often find her in her own world, thinking up the most insane situations. It may have taken her awhile, but she made her dream come true with her first published work, Snow Falling.
She managed to wrangle herself a husband who matched her crazy and they hatched three wonderful children.
If you were to ask her what gave her the courage to finally publish, she’d tell you it was her amazing family and friends. Support is vital in all things and when you’re afraid of your dreams, it will be your cheering section that will lift you up.
This book got me right in the feels, so much so that I got very teary and almost cried!
That rarely happens so big props to Davidson King for making me so invested in the lives of these two wonderful men, well one man and his vampire!
The story is so intimate and yet also pretty funny, as Lukas tries his hardest to avoid Sam's overtures of friendship after being forced to move to the little town of Brookridge, and fails miserably.
Of course, there's so much more to this story than that and it wraps up the relationship development alongside the secondary story of how very differently these two characters are.
It's about Lukas' sense of ennui, from having spent centuries wandering the world and being utterly disinterested in it now versus the delight of a young man living every day as a bonus because he almost didn't get any of them.
Sam's five years into remission after a bone marrow transplant and, after two thirds of his life have been spent being sick, he's determined not to let anything pass him by so the man who seems uninterested in anything draws him like a magnet.
It also examines the duel edged sword of immortality, of your friends having to watch you die from a terminal illness versus being turned and seeing them age while you don't, and potentially turning away from the idea of meeting again in an afterlife, whatever form that might be.
There was perhaps an abrupt change of heart from Lukas when he starts to see and appreciate Sam and then when he realises that he may be catching feelings because Sam's his eternal, the one perfect person he can spend his immortal life with.
But, for me, the author did enough to show how he'd been gradually breaking down his walls the more he spent time with Sam doing mundane things and seeing the world through Sam's enthusiastic eyes instead of his own jaded ones.
I like a book that takes an unusual turn and makes me think about choices and this one did that.
#ARC kindly received from the author, I am voluntarily leaving a review
Thank you for the earc to Davidson and Literally Yours!
I was intrigued by the tropes and the blurb but the end product was disappointing.
The pacing was massively off in my opinion. It started of so slow with barely nothing but Sam pestering Lukas for 100 pages and suddenly the gala, lust, love, illness, “I need space”…in the other 150 pages left.
I felt sad for Sam but at the same time, really really annoyed by him. Maybe my empathy is not active rn but I deadass couldn’t deal with his attitude. Yeah, he was dying but he was gifted an answer…and you worry about not seeing your parents in heaven?! My dude, you don’t even know for sure if that will happen if you die!
Lukas was so patient in the end but like I said, those first 100 pages was all about him being annoyed by Sam’s existence. Not finding anything endearing about Sam but still inviting him home and to the gala was weird, like the author was trying to hint at Lukas coming to care for Sam but in too subtle a way because I deadass miss took it for opportunity, like “Oh Sam is here, he’ll come to the gala with me” “Well Sam won’t shut up if I don’t talk to him so I have to at least make conversation”. At one point even Winston (the butler) offered to take Sam home because Lukas was complaining about it.
In the end I pushed through and while the HEA was cute this book was sadly not it for me.
This was an emotional story. I got so invested Lucas and Sam & where it was going to go. I felt for both Lucas and Sam, but it different ways. Lucas felt done with life and Sam just wanted to live. These two really were meant to find each other. This really is an emotional roller coaster of a story & there will be tears from this beautiful story.
The Edge of Goodbye is the story of Sam a human and Lukas a vampire. This was such a rollercoaster ride of emotions. Sam is living every day because he knows life isn't guaranteed. He knows this because he has a terminal illness. Lukas is just done with almost everything even though he is going to live forever. I loved watching these two learn from each other. This was just an amazing story that pulled me in from the start. All the characters were just so well written. Even with the sad parts this story is more about the true happiness you can find in life if you look for it. I would definitely recommend this book as a 5 star read. received a free review copy
I really liked it. Davidson managed to capture the feeling of being sick and on the edge and wondering if every new moment could be the last. I really liked how the romance entwined with it all
I'm going to start off by saying, Davidson King has done it again. Such an emotional and powerful journey. Next, I'm going to get a little personal here, The Edge of Goodbye is amazing but I'll be honest, I should not have read this right now. On January 13th, it'll be a year since my mother passed away and reading hasn't held the same pull for me this year as it usually does but that isn't why I should have waited. The reasons behind Sam's journey(I won't spoil it for anyone so I won't mention specifics) may be different than my mother's but I could see so many elements that resonated in our daily lives. There came a point where I just broke down completely and that was when I knew I should have set this aside before beginning. I won't say it broke me but it probably was as close as anything has in 2025 AND YET I couldn't stop. I'm not a DNF reader, I've been known to set a book aside for multiple reasons but I always come back and finish it but I just couldn't do that with Goodbye. The heartache was worth it and frankly, that probably speaks louder volumes about how amazing this story is than anything I can come up with. I have no triggers when it comes to reading and watching but if I did, this probably would have been one of them, so be sure you're prepared for the heart hurting before the heartwarming. Truth is, the tears Sam's journey brought to the surface probably helped more than they seemed at the time and for that, I say, Thank You, Davidson King, you didn't heal my heart but you helped fill a notch.
Okay, now to the story.
As I said above, I won't spoil anything but I'll mention a little. Sam might rub a few the wrong way, he can be a bit overwhelming and borderline pushy but I get why he's that way. As an introvert, I don't think I could be that way in his situation but I applaud his fight and determination to enjoy every second of life. On the other side, Lukas comes across as grumpy and borderline(maybe not so borderline at first) rude but I can also understand why he is that way too. Being able to make the reader see both sides of the personality ruler is just another example of King's storytelling and world building talent.
As a paranormal lover, I've read many ways authors have created their own vampire lore. I loved how King uses the Hollywood folklore we all associate with vampires to build her own. I can honestly say, Lukas' love of ice cream is one I can see myself partaking in if I was a vampire too. Again, I won't spoil the lore she created so you'll have to read it for yourself to see if you would agree with Lukas or not.
This might have the smallest supporting cast of any of King's works but each played a part, none were a page filler, and they all helped paint a picture that was believable(which in a paranormal genre sounds an odd thing to say but no less true).
Don't let my initial paragraph scare you, The Edge of Goodbye, is one not to be missed. I probably should have waited to read it for personal reasons that came close to breaking me but at the same time, I couldn't stop and when I swiped the last page, I found a crack in my heart that wasn't as big as it was when I started. Whether you choose to be a part of Sam and Lukas' journey now or later, just know you don't want to miss it. It may seem heavy at times but it's entertaining from beginning to end and that's all I ever ask for.
One last side note: I have added this to my Xmas shelf even though the holiday is a tiny blip in wordage but as I am in the "Die Hard is a Christmas Movie" camp, I view my readings the same, if the holiday is mentioned than its holiday story.

WHAT TO EXPECT 🩶 MM paranormal romance 🩶 Vampire x human 🩶 Grumpy x sunshine 🩶 Age gap 🩶 HEA
AUTHOR'S BLURB For Sam, every moment counts.
MY THOUGHTS I enjoyed this one. Sam is a little ray of sunshine, figuratively speaking, which is a testament to his resilience and determination, considering his childhood. Although Lukas spends the first 25% or so of the book hating on Sam and his sunny, persistent nature, it's pretty clear, at least to the reader, that this is a case of "The lady doth protest too much."
I really liked the side characters in addition to the relationship between Sam and Lukas. Sam's two best friends and Lukas' (probably) only friend are great sounding boards for the couple, especially when Sam has to make the most life-altering decision he's ever faced. I also felt invested in Sam's little town itself.
BOTTOM LINE Interesting premise. Likable characters. Quick, easy read. I would recommend if you like your HEA with a little helping of angst first.

Thanks to Literally Yours PR and Davidson King for an eARC of this book. All opinions are mine. Reviews posted regularly on StoryGraph, Goodreads, Amazon, Instagram, BlueSky, BookBub, and Fable.
A powerful, compelling read which looks at the hands we are sometimes dealt and the ways in which, if we did live in a paranormal world, we could change things. It also addresses the challenges faced not only by those who have to live with terminal illness, but the people they are closest too and all those around them.
Then there is the. flip side. The part where you can live forever but what to do when that forever weighs on you, when you want nothing more than for it to end but are denied that option. It sounds odd, to want to end an eternal life but when you see it from the perspective presented in this story perhaps it really isn't, if you don't have anything to want to have an eternity for.
Two very different perspectives, two very different characters, one small town with an ice cream shop of my dreams.
Davidson King had me hooked with the ice cream shop. Then there was Sam, one of the cheeriest characters I've come across, his best friend and his adorable cat too. We meet them all as they open the story for us, wanting to get to the bottom of the mystery of the new owner of Lancaster Island. That new owner is Lukas. Grumpy vampire with a love of ice cream and that is how he comes into Sam's orbit. The sunshine-grump part of this story is absolutely spot on, over-the-top and fabulous! They are a brilliant pair and following their story, no matter how many tears it had me shedding (and there were alot) was an absolute joy.
Davidson King knows how to get the story just right, how to position characters and events to create the most powerful arcs. We are, for a short while, left feeling that the inevitable is going to happen but also doubting what that inevitable could be. We are given plenty of opportunity to learn the characters, delve into what makes them tick, enjoy some decadent ice cream creations and simply exist, with them and their story. Outstanding.

Sam lives each day with gratitude, determined to savour life’s fleeting moments alongside his friends, his cat, and his bucket list. His philosophy of cherishing every second collides with Lukas, a weary vampire who has lost all interest in humanity and longs for release from his endless existence. Drawn together despite their differences, Sam’s warmth and determination awaken something new in Lukas, while Lukas unknowingly helps Sam fulfil pieces of his bucket list. Their bond deepens into love, offering both men a sense of renewal and hope. But when reality intrudes, Sam must face the limits of his mortality, while Lukas, for the first time, longs for forever. Their love becomes both a gift and a challenge — a fragile connection tested by fate, desire, and the looming possibility of goodbye.I
I adored this story of cherishing the present, finding love in unlikely places, and discovering that even on the edge of goodbye, connection can bring forever into focus. It was rich with contrasts between mortality and immortality, despair and renewal, and the transformative power of love. I loved that For Sam love complicated his acceptance of mortality, forcing him to confront the pain of leaving someone behind but for Lukas love awakes desire for permanence, shifting him from resignation to longing for a shared future. It became clear that love doesn’t erase their struggles but transforms how they face them — turning despair into courage. This story was full of emotions and feelings that were very clear and easy to understand. While it could have been seen as a depressing story it was actually very heart warming. This was an MM story with mature content.
I'm a huge fan of Davidson King, she's such a sweet person who I adore, and her books are always spectacular in different ways.
This book hit me right in the feels, knowing what inspired the author to write Sam's story made this so much more impactful to me. That and I've also watched a loved one go through all of what Sam went through, cancer is.. awful, destructive, brutal, and a thief. It robs you of certain parts of yourself and can steal your joy, just when you start to relax and enjoy life, bam! A test comes back with bad results.
I don't want to talk about potential spoilers, I'll leave that for other readers to find out on their own, but I WILL talk about how much I love Sam and Lukas together. Sam is bubbly, as happy as he can be, and is determined to know the mean man who comes in for simple ice cream orders, whereas Lukas is gloomy, moody, grumpy and tried to actively avoid people if he can. However, he quickly learns Sam cannot be avoided, and soon he succumbs to Sam's charm!
I liked the romance between these two and how their relationship was portrayed. It was more of a slow burn, which I liked and it also makes sense seeing as how Sam had to put in effort to get Lukas to accept his company. I also really appreciate the rawness and realness of certain aspects that are discussed within the story; cancer, multiple blood tests, scans, food sensitivities, etc.. These were written in a very respectful way and real way, and I commend Davidson King for writing something so heartbreakingly beautiful.
Both of these men were marked for death in two different ways, but together they find a way to continue their lives, and live it to their fullest.
Well, this is a roller coaster ride of emotions. Sam and Lukas’s opposites attract story is one of both grief and joy, excitement and devastation. And it's a glorious thing to see how these guys navigate it all.
Sam's life is certainly turned upside down when the enigmatic Lukas blows into his small town and he makes it his business to solve the mystery of the man. He does have a bit of sleuthing like that on his bucket list, after all. So, with the support of his friends, he sets out to do exactly that and kill the grumpy man with kindness until he breaks and Sam can break the case open wide. Of course, as a centuries old vampire, Lukas has zero desire to be the mystery Sam wants to solve. He's seen and done it all and just craves solitude. Human interaction is the very last thing on his wish list which makes him even more unbelieving that Sam is getting under his skin. I love the way that the connection between these characters just kind of creeps up on them both.
The whirlwind element to their budding relationship (there goes that bucket list again) serves as an effective way to really ramp up the impact when Lucas understands he can't live without Sam in his life and Sam believes he will have to do just that. That this is a paranormal romance and the solution is much easier than Sam thinks, is the sweetest thing. That said, Sam does wrestle with the moral dilemma of whether he can handle a literal forever when all he's ever thought possible for him is borrowed time.
It's another great addition to this author’s paranormal romance collection; bittersweet but with the sweet definitely tipping the balance with a truly satisfying HEA for Sam and Lukas. All the stars.
An ARC was provided by the author - this is my honest opinion.
I’ll be the first to admit I don’t normally read the paranormal romances but this one caught my eye so signed up for it. It’s also my first Davidson King book and really enjoyed Lucas and Sam story. Both MCs are so vastly different than the other, and not just because one’s a vampire.
You’ve got Sam who is healing from the loss of his parents as well as some pretty major health issues. Even though he’s struggled he still always sees the silver lining, he’s happy to wake up each day, easy going, fun to be around, and always looking to make me friends (even if the other person isn’t interested 👀 yes I’m looking at you Lucas).
Lucas on the other hand has been around for hundreds of years. He’s seen everything, lost friends, feels unfulfilled, and wishes that the council would put him out of his misery. Instead they send him to a small town where he’ll live on an island, and take time to try and find what makes him happy again.
When the broody new guy in town walks into the ice cream shop and meets probably the most happy person he’s ever known, you just know these two are gonna be great together. Listen, not only was this a really cute broody vampire meets golden retriever ice cream boy but the emotional depth of both characters is really quite impressive. Learning what both have and are going through really pulls at the heartstrings without totally breaking you, which is nice. Sweet with a side of emotional.
*Tropes: -MM Romance -Vampire x Human -Billionaire MC -Small Town Romance -Grumpy x Sunshine -Strangers to Lover -Slow Burn

Sam and Lukas’s story is funny, emotional and full of amazing side characters. I loooved Sam’s character who is a ray of sunshine even after all he has been through. He is sweet, kind, caring, social and doesn’t give up on people. Lukas is total opposite of Sam. Lukas is grumpy and comes off as rude, insensitive and arrogant at first but as the book progresses I got to read how caring, supportive and respectful he is. Sam’s past is absolutely heartbreaking and it’s so nice to read that he has so many people on his side. I enjoyed Sam’s friendship, his rambles and his persistency to be Lukas friends (because he realized that Lukas is lonely and needed a friend). Lukas’s softer side is definitely swoon worthy and so adorable. He is so protective over Sam but doesn’t cross the boundaries Sam laid down for him. Lukas was a steady and calm presence when shit hit the fan for Sam. And Sam brought light to Lukas’s dull and depressed life. Sam and Lukas definitely are unexpected couple with how different they are but they still make complete sense. The only thing this book was missing was more paranormal aspects. With that said I definitely enjoyed this book and will recommend it.
What started as a light hearted, grumpy sunshine story, slowly became a highly emotional, somewhat bittersweet tale. Sam's cheery, gregarious personality plays perfectly against Lukas' sullen, irritable demeanor. You just knew from the first time Lukas walked into Cone Creations (who can resist a vampire who is a slave to ice cream; I can't wait to try some of the combinations he enjoyed) he would lose the battle against Sam's efforts to become his friend.
The story was aptly named and perfectly paced. The development of the relationship between Sam and Lukas' had its bumps, but it felt natural, never rushed or forced. Well considered language and engaging dialogue serve to reveal more about the depth of the characters. It was then the story starts to take a slightly darker turn. And it was the second half of this story that really did me in. The pain, the fear, the despair of the characters was palpable.. I was completely absorbed in the story to the point that I felt all that Lukas and Sam were feeling.
Throughout the story I laughed and I cried, I experienced fear and despair, humor and joy. Sam and Lukas and their journey to each other will stay with me for a long time.
Sam has endured more than many have but he remains exuberant kind and loyal. He is funny and smart and very persistent which he needs to be to crack the gruff exterior of the very moody vampire Lukas. Ice cream brings them into each other’s orbit and before long Sam establishes a friendship with Lukas. A friendship the Lukas begrudgingly accepts and it literally changes his everlasting life. Sam and Lukas have to face some challenges before they get their HEA so be prepared for lots of feels. My heart was breaking but the story telling ability of this very dependable author soon turned that into huge happy smiles for these two wonderful men. There’s a delightful cast of secondary characters to keep things interesting and an epilogue that neatly ties everything together for everyone. I loved this very emotional yet very enjoyable read and highly recommend it.
“The reality of it all is that I was born on the edge of goodbye. My story has an ending - all of ours does - and mine is here.”
Lukas, a four-hundred and fifty year old vampire, totally tired of living (?). Then he meets Sam. The most annoying human he has ever met. The man just won’t leave him alone. Sam wants to solve the mystery that is Lukas. And he will, if he’s given enough time.
I’ve read all this authors books. They have been entertaining and her characters are among my favorites but Sam and Lukas are special. One isn’t better than the other. They are entwined together. Sam approaches life with such happiness even though he knows his time is limited and Lukas makes him shine. Lukas is a Grumpy Gus who doesn’t even know he’s under Sam’s spell until he realizes he can’t imagine life without him. Like I said…entwined.
This book has sad moments but I felt it was a happy, satisfying story. Nice supporting characters (especially Winston) who were important to the story but didn’t interfere with the Sam and Lukas vibe.
I really enjoyed the book.
Review Copy requested and reviewed on behalf of OMGReads.
Edge of Goodbye by Davidson King is quite possibly my favorite book by this author. It was funny, sweet, heart wrenching, and an unexpected slow burn. Lukas moves to Lancaster Island to stay away from humans. He meets Sam, a ball of energy who is determined to be friends with Lukas. I loved and adored Sam so much. He was kind and compassionate, expecting nothing in return. He just wanted to spread happiness. Lukas was bitter and jaded from his many years of living as a vampire. The only thing that made him happy was ice cream and eventually Sam. Such an amazing story that I am sure I will reread. The love was palpable between the MCs but also Sam’s friends and neighbors. Everyone loved Sam because of who he is. I will be thinking about these characters for a very long time. Highly recommend (though read the TWs).
The reality of it all is that I was born on the edge of goodbye.
I received an ARC from the author for my honest review.
As always I absolutely adore this book even if it broke me a little. I knew I was gonna cry and while I was giggling through the first half of the book my stomach was slowly sinking as I knew what was coming, and yet I still wasn't prepared for it. Ugh I love you Davidson but whhhhyyyy.
Sunny Grumpy is my favorite so of course this was perfect. Sam is all smiles and rainbows while Lukas is the dark storm clouds over the ocean surrounding the island. They fit so well together and it was adorable watching Sam beat Lukas into submission with his up beat personality and ice cream sundaes. Lukas was such a sweet heart too. He was so lost on how to emote and human but still did his all for Sam just to see him happy. And what a beautifully earned happy ending these two got.
Amazing job Davidson Im proud of you and appreciate all you do.
This book was simply beautiful. Lukas and Sam’s love story wrapped me in a warm embrace and touched my heart. Their temperaments and outlooks on life are so different, but they fit together perfectly. Sam strives to enjoy every minute of his life, while Lukas feels as if he can’t bear another day of his. Sam is determined to break through Lukas’s rough exterior and find the real person inside, and in doing so he reawakens Lukas’s reason for living. They have a lot to overcome, but they grow to love one another and find out how strong they can be together. Their story is full of joy, heartbreak, humor, love, and some suspense. Davidson King wrote a beautiful story about love and life and the fear of death. I felt every emotion in this book. The emotions are raw and real. I highly recommend this book to anyone who wants a heartwarming book with a HEA to read for the holidays.
Five stars is not enough for this book. Sam is 25 and works at Cone Creations ice cream shop. One day, his best friend Natalie came in saying that someone was moving into Lancaster Manor. They were both excited and wondered who it can be. One day a stranger came in asking for ice cream. The person was rude, but Sam was intrigued by him. Lukas Farren is a vampire who had to move as he has had to every 20 years. The only thing he can digest, other than blood, was ice cream. Sam wants to befriend him and follows him as he walks through town. This is the start of their story of how Sam wore Lukas down with first becoming friends to more. I laughed. I cried while reading with everything that Sam had to go through. I really enjoyed and recommend. You will not be able to put it down.
The Edge Of Goodbye is an MM Romance between a grumpy vampire Lukas and super sweet sunshine Sam.
Loved every second of this! It was super sweet and so heartwarming you just felt for both of these characters.
Lukas is done with life. He feels that he has lived for so long that there’s no more purpose in life. But when he meets Sam things change for him. He’s grumpy and mean but that doesn’t stop Sam from being nice and trying to be his friend. When Lukas needs a date to NY he asks Sam after the gala things change between them. But soon after things change for Sam and he keeps it from Lukas. Lukas is hurt he wants to be with Sam but he’s trying to respect his wishes. Until things get worse. Lukas offers him life…forever. But that decision is hard for Sam to make.
This is a bit of a whirlwind romance between our super-grumpy vampire, Lukas, and the human who has made his mission to befriend him, Sam. Lukas is a vampire who has lost his will to live forever, he is bored by his existence and wants no interaction with anyone, humans or vampires alike. That’s why he spends the best part of their initial acquaintance being terribly annoyed t Sam. And then… not so slowly, there it is: the attraction, the realization that Sam might be his eternal, and the newfound desire for forever. The book is full of emotions, and though the writing is light and enticing, it gets you right in the feelings. This is my first time reading a paranormal romance by this author, but as always, I loved her writing.
A lovely book about hope and fears and about finding the right person to spend eternity with.
Sam has cancer, but is in remission, when Lukas comes to live on the island near the town. Sam is sunshine and Lukas is Mr Grumpy. Lukas loves ice cream and Sam works in the ice cream shop. Sam is determined to get Lukas to like him, and steadily starts a campaign to this end.
What happens after is a love story, which made me sniff a few times! I've read a few other Davidson King books, but this is nothing like her others. Do read the preface, it will explain a lot. Yes, this book has difficult themes, but it does have a HEA, which a lot of real tales don't.
MM/ small town/ paranormal/ age gap/ grumpy/sunshine/ OM drama/ friends to lovers/ found family/ fated mates/ HEA
Trigger warning: death of a loved one/ cancer/ terminal illness/ suicidal ideation
This was good but the relationship between the MMCs didn’t feel as organic as it could have been. Sam annoyed Lukas for a majority of the time they had known each other yet all of a sudden a change in scenery gives them the courage to hook up…?
Also, I get why Sam was a bit hesitant to take Lukas up on his offer but, like, if I was dying and I had the opportunity to live forever with the love of my life, I’d take it. Yes, you’ll outlive your friends which sucks but the alternative would have sucked more.

Oh gosh, this story hit me right in the feels!! What a beautiful clever story. I adored the grumpy/sunshine relationship between Sam and Lukas and the slow development of their deep feelings towards each other. Sam is such a sweetheart and I think it was genuinely impossible not to fall in love with him a little. Lukas, the vampire who’s all but given up on life, refuses this bright little ray of sunshine at every turn yet when he opens up to Sam, it’s a beautiful thing. This story was gut wrenching and real, and so beautifully written, I hope more books are written within this world and series because it was truly an enjoyable read Loved it, 5 stars, please write more!!!!!!

This is my first book by this author and my first vampire book also. I really enjoyed it and may of teared up as well.
Sam has always known he’s not meant to be here long. That’s why he makes every second count. When he finds out that someone is finally moving into the mansion on the island he becomes fascinated. Even more so when he meets the handsome Lukas who’s grumpy and seems to only enjoy ice cream… but nothing and no one else.
Sam is persistent and won’t give up on becoming friends with Lukas.
Lukas just wants to live his life in isolation. He’s a vampire who just wants to be done with life. But Sam, Sam may change his outlook.
Why is a grumpy, slightly depressed, reclusive vampire so hot?!?
Lukas is just biding his time, wallowing in the eternity of things. He hates people, especially the way-too-happy and chatty Sam. Too bad the ice cream where Sam works is way too good, and that’s the excuse he’s sticking with for coming to town so often.
I’ll admit to not liking Sam, especially in the beginning. He refuses to take no for an answer and pushes the friendship for his own amusement & curiosity. But damn, I love Lukas and his falling in love. Grumpy vampire finding happiness is every Christmas dream come true!
This is an emotional and beautiful love story. Vampire/human, grumpy/sunshine, hurt/comfort. A vampire who no longer wants to exist. A human with cancer who is facing his death and wants to live. The crisis point is particularly emotional and there were tears. It also hit home for me in a personal way which made it resonate all the more.
I loved the MCs Lukas and Sam. The secondary characters Natalie and Ben (Sam’s friends) and Vincent (Lukas’ friend) added a lot to the storyline. And of course ice cream being a key element can’t be a bad thing! Highly recommend this book.
This book wrecked me. It started out so cute and I knew something was coming but when it did I still wasn't prepared. The way illness and grief is portrayed is perfect and so so so emotional. Lukas and Sam are everything and they absolutely deserved happiness together. I don't think there are enough words for me to accurately portray how well I thought this book was paced, developed, and written.
The happy ending was perfect! The grumpy/sunshine relationship was so well executed. Sam is a golden retriever maybe literally with how he would follow Lukas around, and I love a good thawing of a cold dead heart moment!
