Have you ever lost your hope? Have you ever felt distant from your faith? Have you ever had to fight for joy?
Reading this book will remind you that joy is worth fighting for. Divided into thirty chapters, you will be reminded of and maybe even discover ways that joy is being taken from you and the ways that you can reclaim it.
At the end of each chapter, you will find gentle and repetitive actions for you to incorporate into your daily life. These are wonderful rhythms to claim and practice daily. Allowing the suggested actions to become daily rhythms will help you to reclaim your joy.
Sometimes, we need to be reminded that we can do hard things. This book does just that. Reading this book will help to renew and refresh your spirit

Michele Howe discovered the comfort of feeding on God’s faithfulness when a long season of multiple losses and health challenges left her soul exhausted. Fear was the enemy that stole her rest, and stability seemed to be a relic from another era.
Howe’s fight for joy required a muscular commitment to remembering God’s faithfulness in the past, a dogged determination to find evidence of his faithfulness in the present moment, and a childlike trust for the future because God would be there to meet her in whatever was waiting for her there.
She brings that gritty determination to the pages of Fight for Joy, a collection of thirty devotional readings designed to fuel the believer’s commitment to wait in faith while God does the work that needs to be accomplished. When suffering has stolen all the oxygen in the room, we breathe grace when we run to our loving Heavenly Father for comfort. With scriptural clarity and practical sensitivity, Howe urges her readers to become deeply rooted in godly community, to maintain spiritual disciplines as a lifeline, and to be patient in the long wilderness of waiting.
Acceptance of God’s appointment—even when it’s a dis-appointment—is step one of the journey toward lasting joy. “Joy everlasting. Joy overflowing. Joy in abundance and joy that cannot be dimmed or diminished by life’s circumstances. And let’s be honest. Isn’t that what we all desire?”
In Fight for Joy, Michele Howe helps readers discover peace in impossible circumstances.
Promises of Hope
I’ve read many wonderful books by Michele, but this one hits differently. There is a lot of pain here, and Michele does not hold back—but she also characteristically points us to God’s promises of hope. She writes deeply about dementia, suicide, medical diagnoses, and more.
I was especially moved by the brief list of passages declaring God as Father, God with us, the Lord our Rock, and more. The better we understand who He is, the more we learn to lay down our burdens before the One who can bear them.
Victory through God’s Mercy and Grace
The chapters are short but strong, ending with a heart-cry prayer and practical applications to find joy in God’s past, present, and future faithfulness. I really appreciated this format and hope to bring it into more areas of my personal prayer and public preaching.
This is a book to read slowly and deeply. The biblical principles are profound. The fight for joy is a daily battle. Filled with biblical wisdom, this book will walk you through despair and lead you to victory through God’s mercy and grace.
