Field Notes From The Stand: Tales of Bucks, Blunders, and Deer Camp Wisdom

Rate this book
If you've ever sat in a deer stand long enough for your toes to go numb and your thoughts to wander, Field Notes From The Stand will feel like home.

From bestselling outdoor humorist Bill Friedrich, author of That Hunting Camp, Dad, the Camp is on Fire, and Deer Camp Diary, comes a fresh collection of laugh-out-loud stories, campfire wisdom, and reflections from a lifetime spent in the woods.

In these pages, Friedrich captures the essence of deer camp--the early mornings, the tall tales, the lifelong friendships, and the unforgettable mix of triumph and blunder that comes with chasing whitetails. Whether he's recalling a misfired plan, a hard-earned lesson, or a quiet sunrise that reminds him why he's there in the first place, his stories are packed with the kind of authenticity only years in the blind can deliver.

You'll find yourself nodding, laughing, and maybe even misting up as you recognize a bit of your own camp in his words.

Inside you'll

* True tales from over 85 years of deer camp tradition
* Hard-earned lessons about hunting, family, and the great outdoors
* A healthy dose of humor--because every hunter has a "you won't believe this one" story
* Reflections that remind us why we keep coming back to the woods, year after year

Whether you're a lifelong hunter or just love a good story told with heart and humor, Field Notes From The Stand is a must-read companion for anyone who's ever felt the magic of opening morning.

Pull up a chair by the woodstove, pour a cup of camp coffee, and enjoy Bill Friedrich's latest tribute to the places, people, and moments that make deer camp sacred.

Thank you for visiting my Goodreads page. Begin your journey with The Landman, the first novel in the Jeff Koehler Mystery Series, where a wildlife photographer stumbles into small-town secrets and wilderness danger that could change everything—and put him in the crosshairs.

I’m Bill Friedrich, a Michigan-born author who blends a lifelong passion for the outdoors with gripping storytelling. Raised in West Bloomfield and deeply connected to Northern Michigan traditions, I draw on decades of hunting, fishing, and wilderness exploration to bring authenticity and atmosphere to my writing.

My first three books share real stories from my family’s third-generation hunting camp in Michigan’s north woods. Today, I channel that same love of the land into fiction with the Jeff Koehler Mystery Series—a suspenseful mix of outdoor adventure, survival-driven tension, and mystery. Readers who enjoy authors like C.J. Box, William Kent Krueger, and Nevada Barr will feel right at home here.

When I’m not writing, I can often be found outdoors, camera in hand, chasing the wild places that continue to inspire my stories.

Another excellent book by Bill Friedrich that captures the honest experience of deer camp. His journal entries make you feel as if you are there. I highly recommend all four books he has written in his Deer Camp Adventure series about his memories of Singing Hills.
