AngelFall #2

Seraph's Blade

Rate this book
Do not trust outsiders. Do not disobey the precepts. Do not listen to handsome men.

Lilith has spent her whole life straining for perfection to please the elders of her restrictive religious community. When she’s thrust into a conspiracy involving handsome, otherworldly angels who claim to be Heralds from her god, she’s skeptical. Despite her wariness, one angel in particular is charming enough to thaw her icy walls.

Castiel, a warrior angel, Fell from the sky and into Lilith’s world. For fifty years he has searched for a way home, and his first clue comes from this cold, beautiful woman and an ancient manuscript hidden by her cult. He strikes a bargain: he’ll pretend to be a messenger from her god, snatch the book, then return to his fellow warriors, and in return shore up her precarious position as a beautiful, single woman in a patriarchal cult by providing a veneer of holy approval.

As they search for the book, Castiel realizes he longs for Lilith in a way that can only mean one thing—she’s his fated mate, even though a human and a seraph together seems impossible. When suspicious elders uncover their deception, suddenly more is at stake than a broken heart or hidden manuscript. If Castiel and Lilith can’t escape the elders, they’ll lose Castiel’s chance at returning home—and even their lives.

Seraph’s Charge is book two in the AngelFall series. This sequel is perfect for fans of supernatural angels, gothic tones, and paranormal romantasy.

Thanks to Happily Booked for providing the eARC. This is my honest opinion.

Secrets Whisper, Desires Burn

It feels as if the world of AngelFall expands with every page turned. 'Seraph's Blade', the second installment in the series, picks up exactly where Seraph's Tears left off, drawing the reader into a dark, enchanting universe where secrets, forbidden desires, and supernatural forces are always lurking. Reading the series in order is highly recommended, as the growth of the characters and the tension between them are felt most strongly that way.

Evernight writes with a cinematic eye for atmosphere: every scene, from the chilling cult settings to hidden, mysterious refuges, feels almost tangible. The gothic tone, intertwined with a simmering romance, lingers long after the book is closed, as if the darkness and emotions of the characters continue to echo.

At the heart of this story are the relationships. Lilith and Castiel slowly draw closer, their inner struggles and desires palpable in every glance and decision. The focus on psychology and emotional depth elevates the story above standard paranormal romance, while the smooth, accessible prose makes it an easy, immersive read.

It is not without flaws: at times the romance takes center stage over the broader plot, and for readers familiar with paranormal romance, some tropes, like “fated mates” and cult-driven conflicts, may feel predictable. Yet these familiar elements also provide a sense of comfort and recognition that fans often appreciate.

'Seraph's Blade' is a captivating blend of romance, suspense, and supernatural mystery, a book that pulls the reader in and refuses to let go. A sequel that truly shines when read after the first installment, allowing every emotion and plot twist to come fully alive.

In this 2nd book, the author continues the story and with the world building already worked out in the first book, you can dive right into the story.

The slow burning love is nicely written, it’s with patience but purposefully.

I like the depth that is created by the author.

The book was a pleasure to write read, from the very start until the beautiful end.

Thank you to the author for an e-arc of book 2! I was an arc reader for book 1 as well 😊

Another solid, fun read for this series.

This is the 2nd book in the series but follows a new couple (we met both characters in book 1).

Lilith grew up in the same religious cult as Eve, our FMC from book 1. After the ending events of book 1, Eve must travel back to the group with her brother and the reverend’s body in tow. Along with her and the surviving Elder though, is a Herald they’ve been seeking. It may not be Gabriel, the white winged one seen 50 years ago falling, but Gabriel is sending Castiel, his 3rd in command, to seek out more information regarding the black winged Seraph seen falling hundreds of years before they did. The hope is they find his same path back to home.

For the past 50 years, Castiel has integrated himself into human life more so than the rest of their cohort. But even he sees instantly the control and cruelty this cult claims over its people, especially the women. He may not care too much about Lilith at first, but there’s this certain pull he keeps feeling whenever he looks at her. Yes, she’s beautiful, but it’s more than that. She deserves more than to be treated and controlled the way she is by the Elders and others in the community. And while this lifestyle is all she knows, he’s determined to make her see she’s worth more than they give her credit for, and maybe, just maybe, she can be the person his gut is telling him she is.

This book really dives more into the cult politics and hierarchy itself and how they truly brainwash the people around them. In the end, while they claim to want the Herald, truly it’s their own power they seek vs guidance.

We also dive more into the social structure of Castiel’s home world too more, which was interesting to read about. Since Castiel comes from a lower caste of society, how he views himself and how he’s fought (literally) for everything he’s accomplished; tying that back in to how he views he and Lilith’s developing by relationship overall. I liked diving more into the world building of both of their realms and hope to see even more next book.

Book 3 (coming in June) I think is setting up to be my favorite couple: Azreal and Silence. I think they are going to be so fun to read as they set off on their adventure for answers. I think there’s a prequel coming too in April regarding this mysterious black-winged figure who fell 200+ years ago. I love diving into all the backstory and information for everything.

The romance still is definitely front and center with these books, with the overall plot developing throughout each book. The spice 🌶️ is spicing as usual, even for a shorter book. And the difference in the 2 characters sexual history and how it plays into their romance was intriguing.

Excited to read both the prequel and book 3 coming this year! ❤️

✨ARC Review✨

She was all juxtaposition—curvy body, sharp mind, blank eyes, hard tongue, beautiful and cold. She was a mystery, and I’d always loved mysteries.”

✨ Angels
✨ Fated Mates
✨ Forced proximity

Lilith is trapped by her cult, trained to be perfect and invisible. Castiel returns, otherworldly and compelling, and instantly drawn to her - he knows she’s his fated mate almost immediately.

“This was not the flirtation I was used to, but I liked it all the same. It was sharp and fresh, always keeping my wings stretched.”

The plot is very similar to the first book, just with new characters. The romance hits hard early, and while there’s tension and heat, it follows the same beats readers will recognise.

“I wanted this woman more than I’d wanted any other human I’d seen—and not because of her pretty face, though that was a nice bonus. I wanted to know what was going on behind those eyes…”

It’s an enjoyable follow-up, easy to sink into, though it doesn’t stray far from the first book’s story.

“Missing his lips and his hands and his eyes, damn him. I couldn’t lose myself so deep into infatuation that he’d break my heart.”

Thank you to Happily Booked PR & the author for sharing this story ✨

This book was a good follow up to the first book. You got a little bit more explanation and build up of the world that I feel like book 1 left out.

You met the characters in book one but this is a true slow burn in the best way. Lilith comes from the same cult and knows how to be silent…that’s been drilled into her. Secretly though, she is resilient and strong. You wanted nothing more than to support her to run!

Castile is such a golden retriever wrapped. He was so respectful of her. He didn’t want to fall but being mates, could only fight so much.

I loved the gothic vibes and cult energy is just interesting to read about. The dynamic of the story was easy to get through and I loved the fall of the characters together! Thank you to the author and @happilybookedpr for the early read. All opinions are my own and I look forward to the next book (out Junish)!

Definitely have enjoyed Castiel and Lilith’s story. I liked that he was more the sunshiny type and she the grumpy type, or should I say argumentative type 😏. I like how she showed her true self around him and that he helped her question her life and the ‘church’ she was a part of.

I am enjoying the overall story for this series and all the little tidbits that continue to come to light! And the tension and banter help keep you hooked as well! I am super excited for the next book. I think Azrael will be an absolute hoot! 🤣

Seraph's Blade

5 star rating -- seraphim, cults, mates, and spice.

Y'all this book had such a hold on me!

Lilith was an amazing FMC. She was bold and brash yet able to play the part of a docile woman in the cult. She is the perfect depiction of an any woman in a patriarchy driven religious sect.

Castiel is the seraphim we all deserve. Such a cinnamon roll character.

I can't wait to read the second book in the series and follow the tale of Silence and Azreal.

If you love cults, rage, and spice then this book is for you!

Seraph’s Blade continues the AngelFall series by shifting the focus to Castiel and Lilith, and it adds a lot more emotional depth to the story while expanding the world around them.

Lilith is very much the core of this book. Raised inside the same cult introduced in Seraph’s Tears, she’s been taught her entire life to stay silent, obey, and accept being treated as something to be admired and used rather than a person with agency. The way the elder men watch her, touch her, and claim ownership over her is uncomfortable to read, but it’s handled in a way that clearly shows how deeply damaging that environment is. Watching Lilith slowly unlearn those beliefs and begin to take her power back is one of the most satisfying parts of the book, and her growth feels gradual and earned.

Castiel is a standout love interest. He’s gentle, principled, and steady, and he never tries to control or rescue Lilith. Instead, he offers her respect, patience, and space - things she’s never been given before. Their relationship develops as a true slow burn, built on trust and emotional safety rather than instant chemistry, which makes their connection feel meaningful and believable.

The gothic atmosphere remains one of the series’ biggest strengths. The cult’s hierarchy, manipulation, and hunger for power are unsettling in a very grounded way, while the wider mythology continues to expand. The gods, the fractured seraphim, and the question of how - or if - they’ll ever return home add tension and intrigue, even though I would have loved a little more time spent exploring that side of the world.

As a sequel, Seraph’s Blade works well because it deepens the themes of control, faith, and self-worth while still moving the overall story forward. It also clearly sets up what’s coming next, particularly Silence and Azrael’s story, which I’m more than ready for. This instalment made the series feel darker, richer, and more emotionally layered, and it reinforced why this is a series worth sticking with.

I devoured Seraph’s Blade like it was written in blood, candle wax, and forbidden longing. Anna Evernight absolutely understood the assignment and then set it on fire in a cathedral.

Lilith broke my heart and rebuilt it stronger. A woman raised inside a suffocating religious cult, trained to be silent, perfect, obedient, and watching her slowly realize that holiness does not mean submission was chef’s kiss. Her quiet defiance felt razor sharp. Every page I wanted to scream YES GIRL RUN while also wanting to wrap her in a blanket and protect her from everyone.

And Castiel. Listen. Fallen warrior angel. Stranded for fifty years. Golden retriever energy wrapped in lethal wings. Pretending to be a divine messenger while very much catching feelings he absolutely did not plan for. I was gone. Completely gone. The way he reveres Lilith while also burning for her? Unreal. The fated mates pull felt inevitable, painful, and deliciously doomed in the best way.

The gothic atmosphere seeps into your bones. Ancient manuscripts, whispered rules, suspicious elders, candlelit tension, and that constant sense that one wrong move will bring everything crashing down. The bargain trope was executed perfectly, not cute, not easy, but necessary and dangerous. Forced proximity had me kicking my feet. Black cat Lilith and golden retriever Castiel is a pairing I will never recover from.

What really sold this for me was the emotional weight. This isn’t just angels and romance. It’s about control, faith twisted into power, and choosing your own truth even when the cost is terrifying. The stakes felt real. The danger felt sharp. And the romance felt earned.

I did not expect to be this obsessed, this emotional, or this invested. If you love angels, forbidden love, gothic vibes, fated mates, and romances that feel like rebellion, Seraph’s Blade will ruin you in the best possible way. I’m still thinking about it. Still aching.

ARC Review: Seraph’s Blade

[I received a copy of this book from the publisher/author. This review reflects my honest and unbiased opinion]

THE WHAT
We follow Castiel & Eve as they return to Eve’s town controlled by the Church of the Love of his Divine Saints. Casitel is hoping to find a book and discover if another Seraph with black wings fell through the sky similar to him and the elite sedge. Castiel tricks the elders into believing he’s a messenger of their God Erlik, and with Eve by his side, they set out to find the book. As suspicions grow, the elders try to keep Castiel and Eve apart especially once their connection becomes impossible to ignore.

THE VIBE
Slow burn, enemies to lovers, religious cult x fundamentalism, human x seraph, Romantasy, family betrayals, dual POV, slow building trust.

THE HOW
The story is told through a dual POV from both Castiel’s and Eve’s perspectives. The plot moved well and the cult aspect added tension which kept the right amount of tension.

THE HIT
I really enjoyed this one. Anything cult-y already has me hooked, but this story felt well developed. Eve’s growth stood out the most; watching her gain confidence through her relationship with Castiel and in her own life was really amazing.

THE MISS
Similar to the first book, some of the word choices pulled me out of the story - terms like “cunny” to describe body parts. It gave me the ick and distracted from the story.

THE REC:
A solid read and a strong second book. If you liked the first book, or enjoy culty stories with tension, this one is definitely worth the read.

THE OVERALL: Overall, I would rate this book as follows:

⭐️Overall Rating: 4/5

🔥Spice Rating : 4/5

"Some Spoilers Ahead"

When I signed up for this ARC, I had yet to read/finish the first book. When I got to it (because the TBR is demanding and ever growing) I was NOT disappointed with the first book and very quickly consumed book two.

I love the story so far, the intrigue, the plot, the twists along with the remaining mysteries of the story. You get just enough, an inkling for where we are headed. Enough to keep you wanting more without over exposing where we will end up.

I love good back stories of characters that reflect their growth from who they were to who they evolve to at the end of the book. Castiel who is outwardly easy going, good-natured, quick to smile but has a past that makes himself doubt his self worth because of the color of his wings. Lilith, forced to be the behaving daughter of a mother who put all her hopes on her son in a cult/society where a women's worth is based on how well she behaves and obeys, she tries to hide her sharp mind by being docile and meek so that the men in the society believe she is a behaving woman. Castiel see's her for who she is and helps her see her worth is not in her beauty.

I did have to read the word "cunny" again but... it's ok I will just not think about it.

So yea, this was a great read and I am looking forward to book 3! About 70% in I had guessed who it was going to be about and I am so happy I was right because I liked both of those characters so very much as well.

10/10 recommend this book (the series)

Happy reading!

I was lucky enough to read the e-ARC of this story gifted to me by the author. I am very grateful as I enjoyed reading it and here is my review:

In Seraph’s Blade, Anna Evernight blends gothic atmosphere, paranormal romance, and a critical look at institutional religion into a dark, emotionally charged story.

Although it’s the second book in the series, it reads well as a standalone. The romance is self-contained and deeply developed.

The gothic tone is strong throughout — shadowed settings, religious symbolism, and an ever-present sense of something sacred turned corrupt. The church storyline explores manufactured belief and power structures, adding thematic weight beyond the romance.

At the heart of the book is a forced proximity, fated mates dynamic. The fallen angel recognizes the bond immediately and falls first — fully and unapologetically. His devotion contrasts sharply with her disbelief and hesitation. She struggles to accept that she could be chosen, especially by someone both divine and fallen.

Their physical relationship is intense and explicit, but it feels aligned with the emotional stakes rather than gratuitous. The closeness created by circumstance only heightens the tension between them.

This is a great pick for readers who enjoy:
• gothic paranormal romance
• fallen angel heroes
• forced proximity
• fated mates with emotional resistance
• high heat
• themes of corrupted faith and power

A dark, atmospheric love story where devotion challenges doctrine — and fate refuses to be denied.

2 🌶️

I really enjoyed this. This is book 2 in the AngelFall series and everything I enjoyed about book 1 continued. It’s not too long, the world building isn’t overly complex and I really liked the dynamic between Castiel and Lilith.

FMC; Lilith, what a spitfire. She is smart, funny and bites. I found her character to be multi dimensional in the way that she had to wear different personalities to protect herself. I loved how she was with Castiel and how she battled internally against her beliefs and the way she was raised.

MMC; Castiel. Sweet, lovable and just an all around sweetheart. He definitely saw everything as a cup is half full and I loved how gentle he was with Lilith and understanding that she had to figure things out for herself. I though he was funny and really felt like he was the sun in Liliths darkness

Storyline: I am loving this story. This book continued on investigating a way for the Seraphim to go home, it wasn’t overly plot heavy for the overall story but it was good in the way it focused on the couple as well as giving us more information towards the overall series.

Special note; I loved getting Silences POV, I am so ready to see how her story unfolds and learning her history after the snippets we’ve seen in the first two books.

Thank you Anna for the ARC and congratulations on another beautifully written book.

PS. I cringe at Cunny 🤣 so many different words for the female body parts

Book Rating:⭐ 3.75/5
Spice Rating:🌶️ 2/5

Seraph’s Blade was a solid follow-up in the Angel Fall series and definitely one I recommend reading after book one. The world continues to expand, and I really enjoyed diving deeper into both the cult politics and the angel hierarchy. The atmosphere is dark and gothic, and that tone carries beautifully throughout the story.

Lilith and Castiel were an interesting pair. Lilith’s upbringing inside the cult shapes so much of who she is, and I appreciated the focus on her internal struggle and growth. Castiel’s perspective added a lot, especially seeing how his background and status in his own world influence the way he views Lilith and their connection. The fated mates element is front and center, and while it follows some familiar beats, it is still engaging and easy to sink into.

The romance takes the lead here, with the overarching plot developing alongside it. So if you want more romance in your fantasy, this series gives! The chemistry is there, but the emotional progression felt a little quick at times for me, I like a bit more yearning. I did enjoy how their different experiences and worldviews played into their dynamic, and some strong character moments stood out.

Overall, this was an enjoyable paranormal romance with a moody atmosphere, expanding lore, and enough intrigue to keep me invested in the series. I am definitely curious to see where the next installment goes.

Seraph’s Blade, the second book in the AngelFall series, is an absolute triumph. Anna Evernight has crafted a sequel that not only builds on the powerful foundation of Seraph's Tears, but surpasses it with even more intrigue, emotion, and epic stakes.

The growth of the characters in this book is remarkable. The emotional depth and complexity of the protagonist's journey will have readers fully invested in their fate. The connection between the characters is intense, and the romance adds a beautiful layer to the gripping action. Every moment is charged with anticipation, and the romance is perfectly balanced with the thrills of the plot.

The world-building in Seraph’s Blade is absolutely stellar. Evernight’s writing pulls you into this fantastical realm, where celestial beings and earthly struggles collide. The pacing is relentless, and just when you think you know what’s coming, another twist or revelation takes you by surprise. The battles are well-choreographed, the stakes have never been higher, and the narrative keeps you hooked from start to finish.

If Seraph's Tears captivated you, Seraph’s Blade will leave you breathless. It’s a beautiful, action-packed, and emotionally rich sequel that fully deserves five stars. A must-read for fans of dark fantasy, romance, and high stakes.

This book immediately pulls you back into the world we left when Seraph’s Tears ends. And it’s just as good as I remember. The author does such a good job building a world that feels real and creating/building on characters that have the reader fully invested. It’s impressive how drawn in this story gets you so quickly. There’s darkness and light that seems to consume the reader and isn’t dispelled when the book is finished. Lilith and Castiel’s relationship grows and deepens as you read, but it’s not without its complications. You can feel the tension and desire in their interactions. Castiel is pulled to Lilith on such a deep level. Their connection is complicated by the cult and her enmeshment in to its politics, but he is determined to show her she deserves more that she is getting. She may have been trained to submit and be silent, but she harbors a strength that will not be squashed. Castiel supported her in a way she may not have known she needed. He’s such a golden retriever, cinnamon roll for her and I am here for it. This story is one resilience and true connection, but with spice sprinkled in. It’s such a good story that has you cheering for these two to get the ending they deserve. I mean…who wouldn’t love a book where the MMC literally breaks down a door to get to his woman?! We all need that energy in our lives.

Five stars for fallen angels, forbidden devotion, dangerous faith, and just the right amount of heat.
This story pulled me in fast and did not let go. The tension, the atmosphere, and the emotional intensity kept building in a way that made it impossible to put down.
Lilith is such a compelling lead. She’s fierce and intelligent, but she also understands how to maneuver within a strict, male-dominated religious order. Watching her balance survival with quiet rebellion made her journey feel layered and powerful.
And Castiel? Steady, loyal, and unexpectedly gentle beneath all that strength. He brings warmth to a very dark setting, and their dynamic is everything.
The second installment expands the world in a really satisfying way. There’s more insight into the structure and psychology of the cult, clearer stakes, and deeper exploration of how everything functions behind the scenes. The added detail made the story feel richer and more immersive.
Now I’m just impatiently waiting for the next book because I’m not ready to leave this world or these characters behind.
If you’re into intense romance wrapped in religious power struggles, high emotion, and spice, this series is absolutely worth the read.

I read this book as an ARC reader.

Albeit, my reading was slow at first, but I entered a slump just before starting it. When I came out of the slump, it took me a week (with distractions) to complete, and I enjoyed the book quite a lot.

The chat between the characters, their POVs, the slight yearning. It was really sweet. And some parts made me go “aawww🥹”. Others I was howling, like Castiel’s obsession with Lilith’s back because he hadn’t taken a lover who was wingless was hilarious. I’m sure the author imagined the compliments as sweet pr hot, but they were hilarious to read.

I might do book 3 when it comes out, but I don’t have an immense drive to so book 1, since this was book 2.

Spice: 1.5 🌶️ it wasn’t that spicy, but there were descriptor terms. And you can tell she was running out for synonyms of cum since she used “ambrosia”.

My biggest issues was the sex scene after both characters were locked away for more than 1.5 days and they hadn’t showered. But I’m glad they found love. The emotion was described well.

This was a very easy book to read. The characters, we reasonably simple to follow and so was the plot. They had decent character development and I would defo recommend, even of its for a second read :)

ARC Review of ‘Seraph’s Blade’

I looked forward to reading a storyline with angels.
Even though this is the second book in the series, imo this book can be read as a standalone since it gives a good recap of the happenings in the first book, but since another book is set in this series, I suggest reading them all🙂

In this book we follow Castiel and Lilith, in trying to find more info about the fallen angels with black wings, depicted in a book Lilith saw.
This might hold the key to their return to their realm.
The book is fast yet steady paced, storyline was nice , but it felt incomplete at times, not worked out enough.
Lilith giving the vibes of a sassy persona underneath the meek cloak she has to portray, but at the same time brainwashed just the same.
Castiel gave warrior vibes, but with a righteous heart.
Was nice to read they have weaknesses, too.
Their chemistry was ok actually, again wished their interactions also were worked out more to let them grow towards each other. This made the 🌶️ they had a little meh. But thats my opinion on this.

Overall an easy book to read, with an easy and simple plot line.

Seraphs Blade by Anna Evernight is a slow burn romantasy that picks up exactly where Seraphs Tears left off. It’s highly recommended that you read the first book before this one.

This book dives deeper into the cult politics and hierarchy and how brainwashed every in the town is. I truly loved Lilith’s character growth in Serpahs Blade, she started as silent, perfect and obedient due to being raised in a cult. The further in the book you get she starts to change and realise just how messed up the cult and brainwashing really is.

Lilith and Castiel slowly draw closer together throughout the book and the duel perspective is amazing to see exactly how much they are falling for each other. Castiel is an absolute Golden Retriever, he was sweet, caring, so soft yet when needed he was strong and would fight for what he wants no matter how much he hurt himself in the process.

All together, I absolutely loved Serpahs Blade, it was such an amazing read and I cannot wait for the third book to be released.

Thank you Anna Evernight for allowing me to read the ARC copy of Serpahs Blade. All thoughts and review are of my own.

📚✨ Seraph’s Blade by Anna Evernight
⭐️3/5 | 🌶️2/5

Unfortunately, this one didn’t hit me the same way book one did...and I truly think it comes down to the couple. I just didn’t connect to them the way I did in the first installment, and that emotional disconnect made a difference for me.

That said, the world of AngelFall continues to expand in a way that feels lush and immersive. Seraph’s Blade picks up right where Seraph’s Tears left off, and I cannot stress enough: read this series in order.

The atmosphere? Chef’s kiss. The supernatural elements feel heavy and alive.

That being said… some of the paranormal romance staples (fated mates, cult-driven conflict, destiny threads) felt predictable. Comforting? Yes. Surprising? Not always. And when the romance took center stage, the broader plot occasionally faded into the background more than I would’ve liked.

Overall, this is still a dark, atmospheric continuation of the series. It just didn’t emotionally wreck me the way book one did...and you all know I like to be emotionally wrecked.

Reading Mood: 🖤✨ Moody, gothic vibes, morally gray devotion, whispered confessions in candlelight

The book follows Castiel and Lilith. Castiel is a seraphim that fell 50 years ago and is looking for a way back home. Lilith is a young woman who lives in a cult that worships "Erlick", one of the four gods, and believes heralds speak directly to their God.

Castiel's leader has reason to believe that the cult has information that will help the seraphim find their way home. He sends Castiel along with Lilith back to the cult to gather the information.

We learn about Erlick's cult, as well as Castiel's world and where he fits in. While posing as a herald, Castiel and Lilith try to find out any information on a seraphim that fell hundreds of years ago. As they work together, they grow closer.

This is a story of fated mates, rigorous religious dominance and possible salvation. It is definitely romance forward with a moderate spice level.

I would definitely recommend this to a Romantasy enthusiast.

MMC/MFC: Castiel and Lilith

Tropes:
* Fated mates
* Paranormal romatasy
* Gothic/supernatural vibes
* Black cat x golden retriever
* Forced proximity
* Fallen angel
* Cult life

Safety:
Neglect, fundamentalist religious environments, control

This is second in the series, it’s still technically able to be a standalone.
However…
I would recommend reading the first one. Because I didn’t, and despite the light recap at the start, I was kind of lost.

In this, Castiel realises that Lilith is his fated mate, yet she’s been brainwashed by her cult, and gives all appearances of being a meek and docile MFC.
Castiel was a warrior, but a bit of a tool at times, despite having a heart of gold.

I don’t know if it’s because I missed the entire backstory, but the story just felt like something was missing. The chemistry was a little lacking, and I struggle to truly get into the plot. The spice was, well, not very spicy.
The setup for Azrael’s story is pretty obvious, so we’ll see how that one goes.

It was an enjoyable read, but I think this one is not for me….

🪶Seraph's Blade by Anna Evernight 🪶

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

“do not listen to handsome men”
unfortunately he has wings

Tropes:

Angel MMC/Seraph Warrior
Interconnected Standalone
Religious Cult/Restrictive Community
Mates
Black Cat X Golden Retriever

Do not trust outsiders. Do not disobey the precepts. Do not listen to handsome men.

Lilith has spent her life suffocating under perfectionism in a rigid cult community. She’s sharp, short tempered, and emotionally armoured — and I’ll be honest, she wasn’t immediately likeable. But her cold edges made sense. Watching her walls slowly crack? That was deeply satisfying.

And then there’s Castiel.

A literal fallen warrior angel who hasn’t been home in fifty years and decides the best solution is… fake being a divine messenger and steal a manuscript from a cult.

The romance was more emotional than explosive and the stakes get higher the more suspicious the elders get.

I am very much looking forward to Azrael's story next.

📢Book Review 📢

Seraph’s Blade by @annaevernightbooks

This is Book 2 in Evernight's Angel Fall Series. Book one is called Seraph’s Tears.

Thoughts:
Would you believe unquestionably? Yes.
Would you believe unquestionably if those in power manipulated your unquestionably faith, cause more evil then good all in the name of love? - Resounding No!

Seraph’s Blade is at its heart a romance novel that reminded me why faith and hope are unseen and powerful and trust is fragile.

While on the continuous mission to find a way home the MMC partners with the FMC to hunt down an old manuscript that could unlock the way home. While on the hunt the MMC slowly unwraps the fear and distrust she has and nurishes her instinct to question all the evil around her and not just blindly follow.

4.5 stars because I don't like an unfinished story 🤣🤣 looking impatiently for book 3 (finial book???) In June 2026!

What to expect:
🖤fallen angel
⚔️fated mates
🖤“touch her and die”
⚔️black cat X golden retriever
🖤he falls first
⚔️forbidden love
🖤gothic tones
⚔️bargain
🖤forced proximity

For the most part I truly enjoyed this book. It was quick read made quicker by the fact that you are immediately drawn into the story. This is book two of the Angels Fall series about a sedge of angels that have fallen through a rift and landed into a different world. A “religious” leader had witnessed their fall and it became his mission to locate them believing them to be heralds from the god he worships. This story follows Castiel, third in command of the sedge, and Lilith, a beauty the elders favor.

I enjoyed seeing how Lilith starts to grow into herself and discover that not all that she has been taught is true and how she learned all that she was truly capable of. I did noticed there were a couple continuity issues from the first book into the second book but overall the story continued flawlessly from book 1 into book 2 but it could also be read as a stand alone.

Overall, I enjoyed the book and I thank the author for the chance to read this book in exchange for my honest review.

"I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.” Sherpas Blade. Lilith stands at the emotional centre of the novel. Raised within the same cult introduced in Seraph’s Tears, she has been conditioned to equate obedience with worth. The portrayal of that environment is unsettling yet purposeful, underscoring its lasting harm. Her gradual reclamation of agency is thoughtfully developed and deeply satisfying.
Castiel proves to be a compelling counterpart, steady, principled, and respectful. Their relationship unfolds as a genuine slow burn, rooted in trust and emotional safety, lending authenticity and weight to their connection.
The gothic tone remains a defining strength, with the cult’s hierarchy and the expanding mythology, particularly the fractured seraphim, adding intrigue. As a sequel, Seraph’s Blade effectively deepens its core themes while advancing the larger arc, setting the stage for what promises to be an engaging must read in the series.💛

I really enjoyed this book I was lucky enough to get to read the first book of the series as an ARC and then when I was chosen to read this one too as an ARC I was thrilled. I really love the continuing plot that was introduced in the first book and is continuing throughout the series, along with giving us a great romance. I was excited to see more from Lilith and Castiel. Watching as they find their way to trusting each other and then the love story between them was beautifully done. I think that the author did a great job with keeping the story plot and the romance unfolding at a nice pace. I am so excited to continue reading this series and seeing how it all continues to progress. I also loved the way the author gave us insight on who the next book and couple will be. I am so grateful to have been given this ARC from the author. I can't wait for the next book.
