Kennedy Chesterfield is dead, yet she can’t stop her spirit from popping up in random places among the living. Confused, frightened, and unable to stay in one place longer than a few minutes, Kennedy seeks help from the witches of Shadow Hills—the paranormal small town her mother grew up in. A seance is performed in the town’s most notorious haunted house, and with success, Kennedy is anchored to the location. But there’s a the house is already occupied.

Tucked within the forest outside of town, Theodore Vanderbilt has spent decades haunting his family’s home. Alone, and perfectly content, Theo is happy to keep to himself, hidden away from the judgmental eyes of Shadow Hills, and the descendants of those his family hurt. But when his only friend approaches him about a lost ghost in need of a place to rest, he finds himself opening his home, as well as his heart, to a redhead who upends his entire afterlife.

Both Kennedy and Theo are holding on to guilt from the actions they took in life. Each has something to learn from the other, and with time—and a little forced proximity—they just might find they both have a second chance at happiness.

HAUNT is the third book in the Monster Boyfriends series, set in the paranormal small town of Shadow Hills. Perfect for fans of slow burn and cozy small town romance with a little bit of spice!

Thank you so much to Meg Alivien for the ARC! This is exactly what you want when you think of a cosy romance, think Gilmore girls and Laurie Gilmore’s series but with a paranormal/Halloweentown twist. I loved the first two of this series but this one just turned it up a notch and it was so heartwarming getting to know Theo and Kennedy. They were exactly what the other needed and their vulnerability alongside cute magic and standard overthinking made this a recipe for success. It was lovely to see (read) familiar Shadow Hills faces again from previous books and as always Meg’s description made me want to live there. All that’s let to say is I hope a fourth book is in the works 🤞🏻

“Haunt” is the third book in the Monster Boyfriends series, and it’s probably the coziest and cutest of all three. While “Howl” played with friends to lovers and “Hunt“ was more of a dislike to lovers, “Haunt” brings us strangers to lovers. Kennedy is a ghost, and she’s not really good at being one. Can you blame her? It’s not like there was a guide on how to be a ghost. Plus, she didn’t expect to die. Because she is unable to ghost, she gets stuck not really crossing through and ends up in different places, confused. When she finally is able to get help, she gets tethered to Theo’s house in Shadow Hills. Theo has been alone for years, and he’s not really friends with anyone except Aiden, the vampire from “Hunt”. Theo is riddled with guilt from his past mistakes, but with Kennedy, he needs to teach her everything about being a ghost, and maybe he’ll find within himself that there is still something good in living as a ghost.

Kennedy and Theo are so cute together! Theodore is adorable, he’s really shy, and Kennedy is the outspoken one. He has a lot of anxiety and talks down to himself a lot, it’s really sad to see him being miserable for years for a mistake. Kennedy is really cute trying to figure out how to be a ghost, and I get it. She spent so much time drifting that now that she’s back and she can finally live as a ghost, she wants to take all in! Theo is a great teacher, and very patient with her. It was great seeing him dusting the house to make it presentable to Kennedy so she would never leave him! Awww Theo, you’re such a goner and you have no idea!

“Haunt” is sweet, cozy, and super adorable!

“Hunt” is still my favourite, but “Haunt” definitely comes second in the series!

✨ ARC Read! ✨ 4.5/5 stars 🌟

Thank you Meg Alivien for the early read! I’m so lucky to have been chosen for this ARC. I read the first two books of the Monster Boyfriends Series last summer and couldn’t wait for this one! 🫐

Theo & Kennedy bring us such a refreshing and sweet romance in this new book. They grow together and thrive together which is truly the cutest. 🩷

When the book first starts Kennedy has realized she died and is now a ghost. This leads to some of the witches in town performing a spell to keep her from wondering aimlessly in the void. The spell ensures she’s grounded to a certain place - which happens to be Theo’s house. And of course, he helps her navigate her new undead life, since he’s also a ghost. 👻✨

Theo is a very skeptical man who has been a ghost for a long time and has anxiety about leaving his house. I think it’s important that the author brought to light the modern & realistic aspect of social anxiety in today’s world. Unfortunately, some people really struggle with anxiety and other difficulties and it’s very real.

This was such a good time! I've loved each of the books in the Moster Boyfriends series, and this one was no different. I say series, but they're really interconnected standalones, and all less than 300 pages! They don't have to be read in order, but you will know the other characters on a deeper level by starting with Howl.

I've loved getting to know all the characters individually, watching them grow, and get a happy ending. Especially Theo, his story was so heartwarming. He held on to so much, for so long, I'm glad he got the ending he deserves and could let go of all the guilt he carried. & Kennedy being brought back to Shadow Hills and then learning why? 🥹 ugh. My heart, be still. I don't want to say too much and give away the whole book, so -

These are perfect if you're looking for low stakes, a pallet cleanser after a heavy book, or just a feel good time. Thank you so much to Meg for gifting me an earc. 🥰

Haunt
By Megan Alivien
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌶️

Welcome back to Shadow Hills. There, everyone knows your name, the mayor is a ghost, the coffee shop is owned by a werewolf, the bookstore is run by a witch with no magic, the movie theater is run by a vampire, and the haunted house… might not be as haunted as you thought.

This third installment to the Monster Boyfriends Series was quite possibly the sweetest addition to group so far. While Jamie wins for golden retriever vibes in Howl, and Aiden took the medal for grumpy/moody lead of the Hunt… Theo takes the cake in Haunt for taking the leap despite years of fear and reaching for what his soul needed, in one of the sweetest ways.

Kennedy, our FMC, is thrown into the afterlife with little to go on and not knowing where her soul has landed and appearing to the town’s resident vampire and his mate in the middle of a cafe… isn’t really the best way to realize you are now, well… a ghost. Accepted quickly by everyone she meets, Kennedy finds she is in the one town she felt the most happy in as a kid, a town that is safe for paranormals and even welcomes them with open arms. Finding her footing Shadow Hills may be easy for Kennedy, but she never expected to find the one person she missed the most in life, as well as her soul’s match.

This sweet story is full of acceptance, both for themselves and those around them, forgiveness of old wounds, and finding that one person you’ve always waited for can give you a new kind of strength and hope to start again. The banter is subtle between our two main characters, which coincides well with both their relationship and their own personal growth within the book. Alivien has managed to gently incorporate some often masked nuances of an individual on the spectrum in such a way that it also helps them become more real and authentic, while showing acceptance of a broad range of individuals.

I enjoyed Haunt and definitely read much of it with a smile on my face. Thank You Meg Alivien for the opportunity to ARC read for you again! I not so secretly hope the next book will be for Simone and Casey 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

What do you get when you throw two ghosts in the same haunted house? In this case, a book that has readers whispering 'pleasee kiss' at 2 a.m.

Haunt by Meg Alivien is the third standalone in her 'Monster Boyfriends' series, and the only one I've read so far (though after reading it, I'm interested in the others). It's a wonderfully soft winter romance, set on the outskirts of the small town Shadow Hill where paranormal creatures and humans peacefully coexist.

The plot follows Kennedy, a newly deceased ghost, as she tries to uncover the events of her death and why she came back to Shadow Hill of all places. The first order of business, however, is asking some local witches to help tether her so she stops glitching in and out of the earthly plane. Fortunately there's a perfect place on the edge of town, and the lonely ghost who resides there is kind enough to allow her to stay. Through the course of the book, they'll both bring secrets to light and learn to let go of their respective pasts.

Haunt did a lovely job of keeping the romance a breath away while the plot itself remained light and sweet. This is one that I'll most likely be curling up with on slow winter days when I want a cute little comfort read, and I love it for that.

The small town aspect was done nicely, avoiding a personal ick of mine and lending even more charm to an already good story. I appreciate the mental health representation, and while I wish it had been explored more (especially Theo's agoraphobia) I think doing so would have put the book's light-hearted atmosphere at risk. With that said, I'm grateful to the author for bringing awareness!

Thank you to Meg Alivien for the ARC, and all thoughts and opinions are my own.

Welcome back to Shadow Hill! Your favorite cozy paranormal small town with the sexiest Monster boyfriends. Theo has been a ghost for hundreds of years, secluded in his family home. The last thing he expected was for another ghost to arrive. Kennedy has recently died and she’s popped up as a ghost in her hometown. Some friendly locals help her gain her footing, but that means being tethered to Theo’s home.

Things I enjoyed:
- How Theo and Kennedy help each other to be their better, happier selves.
- Theo’s friendship with Aidan. Aidan supports him but also calls him out on his BS, which Theo needs.
- Theo's ability to see soulmate strings.
- The vivid descriptions of the home and characters that brought them to life

I don’t agree with the romance being considered a slow burn. Yes, they don’t get together until the end of the book, but the book takes place over five days.

It’s not my favorite in the series, but I still enjoyed it. I hope the author continues with the series.

Haunt by Meg Alivien

Kennedy & Theo’s story was just so beautiful. I enjoyed Jamie & Reagan story in Howl as well as Aidan & Joanna’s in Hunt, but I think this one has been my favorite story set in Shadow Hills. (Howl will always have a special place in my heart because of meeting Meg at her table at Romantasy Con Orlando 2024 and hearing the term ARC for the first time)

The idea of being able to still find love and happiness as a ghost in the afterlife unsurprisingly made me teary-eyed several times. The way grief and loneliness were written in this book was so meaningful. I wish Meg Alivien’s world of Shadow Hills was real. If you love cozy small town paranormal romance you should definitely check out this book and series. They are all quick reads and function as standalone stories, but the couples appear in future books.

Thank you so much for the opportunity to read this ARC and happy release week! I look forward to reading whatever books come next for you! I found myself wanting a blueberry scone, but found a blueberry muffin instead at a local coffee shop.

ARC REVIEW

I absolutely loved HAUNT by Meg Alivien. This book completely consumed me—I picked it up and could not put it down, finishing it in less than 12 hours. When a story pulls you in that fast, you know it’s something special.

Kennedy and Theo’s story is emotional, heartfelt, and surprisingly tender. Their connection builds slowly, and every moment between them feels meaningful. Watching two characters who are both carrying so much guilt and grief learn how to open up again was incredibly moving.

This book made me cry multiple times—in the best way. It captures grief, loneliness, hope, and healing so beautifully. Just when my heart felt heavy, it would turn around and give me the sweetest moments of warmth and happiness.

The cozy paranormal small-town vibe of Shadow Hills adds so much charm, and the ghost-meets-ghost premise is both unique and deeply romantic. Theo especially stole my heart with his quiet, reserved nature.

If you love slow burn romance, emotional character journeys, forced proximity, and stories about finding love and healing when you least expect it, this one is a must read.

This was such a cute and cozy paranormal romance! Really enjoyed the lore of the town and the introductions to the other paranormals in town, as someone who has not read the first two (yet). Despite being a short read, it did not feel rushed, although the events did occur over only a few days. The personal growth that you see in Theo is so heartwarming and the fact that Kennedy was the one that brought that out of him.. Be still, my gentle heart.

My only critique is that there wasn’t much of a tone shift from Kennedy to Theo. Theo’s POVs tended to be written in the same manner and tone as Kennedy’s that I often found myself wonder whose POV was whose.

Overall, it was such a fun, cozy read, so much so that I absolutely will be reading the first two in the series as well. Definitely recommend if you’re looking for a palette cleanser after a heavy read or if you’re just having a low day and need some easy, low stakes, enjoyable reading to get you through the day.

Huge thank you to the author, Meg Alivien for providing me with this ARC. Can’t wait to read the others in the series!

It was a pleasure returning to Shadow Hills and all its cozy paranormal vibes. After the ending of the last book, Hunt, I was really hoping we’d get another story in the series especially after the hint about who the MMC would be. Theo and Kennedy’s story did not disappoint.

This is definitely more of a slow burn than the previous books, so the spice level is a bit lighter, but it fits these characters and the emotional pacing of their story really well. I also loved the Victorian ghost vibes. As someone who spent time exploring abandoned houses during my urbex days, the haunted house setting felt especially fun and nostalgic to read about.

If you enjoy witchy elements, friendly ghosts, Victorian homes, small town charm, slow burn romance, and second chances, you’ll want to add Haunt to your TBR.

👻 I saw a Casper meme on the authors Instagram and my younger self’s heart is very happy for Theo and Kennedy. No tears here! Just a cozy ghost love story.

Big thanks to the author for providing me with an ARC! I pre-ordered my shelf trophy and can't wait to see if next to the other two!

⭐⭐⭐⭐

Kennedy dies and finds herself back in her childhood home. However, she’s struggling to stay present, but tying her to the old Vanderbilt house does the trick. However, it means Theo, the resident ghost of the house, now has a new roommate.

Kennedy and Theo are both in search of connection, but not in the same way. Kennedy finds that in a relative, and Theo finds it in Kennedy. Ultimately, they are both looking for home, and they find it in the town and with each other. Watching Theo push himself to get past his guilt over his family’s actions decades before is healing. It’s a story that wouldn’t have worked as the first of the series I think. We needed the emotional build up of the other stories to appreciate Kennedy and Theo’s.

The ghost lore of the universe is so fun. How their energy works, what they can do in a corporeal form vs a non-corporeal form, even just how they can interact with the world around them. While other books I’ve read feature ghosts, they never go in-depth about what it actually means to be a ghost in the story, so it was nice to know what it means to be a ghost in Shadow Hill.

ARC Review: Haunt (Monster Boyfriends #3)

My first ARC experience couldn’t have been more perfect. I devoured this in two days! I’m already obsessed with this world, and the cozy vibes of Shadow Hills made the whole story feel like home.

Why this gets 5 stars ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

🫐 Ghost x Ghost Slow-Burn: Kennedy and Theo’s friends-to-lovers romance feels natural and heartfelt, with a payoff that’s totally worth the wait.

🔮 Paranormal Details Done Right: The supernatural elements feel thoughtful and well researched, which made the world even more immersive.

🌲 Shadow Hills Vibes: A cozy town full of witches, vampires, shifters, and ghosts. The kind of paranormal community you wish you could move to immediately.

💜 Healing & Heart: Beneath the romance, the story explores family wounds and finding your purpose without ever feeling heavy.

🫐 The Blueberry Magic: Kennedy’s blueberry-themed magic is such a clever and charming detail in this series.

Verdict: A cozy paranormal romance that feels soulful, warm, and hopeful. I’d happily return to this world anytime.

“There’s a woman in my bed.”

This is the third book in the Monster Boyfriends series and I swear Meg never misses. I am not someone who enjoys a slow burn and but this dang series always just gets me everytime.

I throughly enjoyed this book as I have enjoyed the others!
2 ghosts, one that is from modern times and one that can’t even tell you what HGTV is. A unique paranormal romance, featuring forced proximity and a little bit of spice! I absolutely loved the callbacks to all of the past characters. It just makes the whole series tie together perfectly.
My only complaint is that I wish we got to see more romance and more in general of Kennedy and Theo. I thought the ending felt a little rushed. Nonetheless still a great book!
I highly recommend this entire series for a quick little paranormal romance read! I just want more and more of this series!!

HUGE THANK YOU TO MEG ALIVIEN FOR THE ARC!! I have been lucky enough that this was actually my second ARC read for this series!!!

Kennedy is dead and is free-floating in Shadow Hills without a tether. Theo has been a ghost for hundreds of years, floating in the void of his childhood home. Opening his home as a tether, can these strangers-to-roommates learn to accept their second chance at life (after death)?

Meg Alivien's “Haunt” is a Ghost x Ghost cozy PNR; it's perfect if you want a laid-back romance with fated mates and second-chance romance without high stakes. It is the third and newest release in her “Monster Boyfriend” series of interconnected standalones!

First, I LOVE Shadow Hills. The Tennessee town is a wonderful cross between Halloween Town x Stars Hollow, where supernaturals of all forms live in harmony with each other! I was really excited to come back to Shadow Hills; it's one of those places I regularly wish I could visit!

Kennedy’s approach to beginning her afterlife was logical and fun to me. Test your boundaries, explore your new abilities, and make sense of your new reality. She rolls with the punches; she’s objective. She’s not overenthusiastic about her situation or entirely upset (it is a cozy romance after all). I really enjoyed that Alivien chose to have two ghost MCs; we were allowed to see the different perspectives someone could have towards their afterlife. I think it was a reasonable choice because not everyone would be an adventurous ghost, but it also allowed us to see the changes in Theo.

🌶️🌶️ - The Afterlife mentor becomes the mentee in a Virgin MMC. Their slow-burning-to-sizzling romance occurs over days, ending in two deliciously explicit chapters at the end of the story.

🌶️

This is my first book by this author and in this world, but it was a lovely little cozy paranormal romcom with low angst/low stakes. I liked both Kennedy and Theo, though Theo and his agoraphobic ways must be protected at all costs lol. I felt much more invested in him and his history/growth as a character than I did Kennedy.

The side characters would have probably been more impactful had I read the other books, but I still enjoyed the glimpses of their dynamics.

The first 75% was a 3 star read, but that last 25% bumped it up for me. She really brought home the tension and romance between the characters and it’s what the first chunk was missing. The ending was so sweet and I wanted more of that story, to be honest.

A good easy quick pallet cleanser, full of small town charm, a grumpy recluse secretly desperate for love, a sarcastic girl looking for a second chance, a meddling small town, and run down home needing the perfect paint color. 3.5 ⭐️

First and foremost I would like to say thank you to Meg Alivien for the digital ARC copy of this book.

This story was so unique and thoroughly enjoyable. Kennedy, the FMC, was so full of life and joy even as a ghost. I really loved the deeper bits of her thoughts when she was serious but she always kept a positive outlook. Her character was easy to relate to and I enjoyed her bouts of humor. She was exactly what Theo needed.

Theo, the MMC, was very lovable and a bit awkward at times. His excitable outbursts were a little confusing but after reading the author’s note I understood him a bit more. His apparent agoraphobia also made me feel so empathetic towards him. I did wish I would have gotten a little bit more insight into his past before they spoke to Bridgette.

This was a quick and lighthearted read. The characters were easy to relate to and the town felt so “small town” with a twist of paranormal.

Haunt = the best slow burn paranormal romance🥹

I was SO FREAKING HAPPY to be back in Shadow Hills & finally get to know Theo’s story😭 Meg did such a great job at showing Theo’s personality and trauma while also showing his healing journey. ALSO THANK YOU FOR THE SPECTRUM REPRESENTATION😭😭

Kennedy discovering her “second chance at life” was so beautiful and truly showed the afterlife doesn’t have to be this scary unknown thing. She discovers a whole new purpose/path & rebuilds the lost relationship with her sister.

Kennedy & Theo’s mate bond was shown so beautifully too. SLOW BURN AF AND IT WAS SOOOOO WORTH IT!!!

Super happy to have all the cameos from the Howl & Hunt characters. Seeing more of Aiden and Joanna was fun. Also getting to know more about the coven! LOOOVED IT.

I’m sad this is the last Shadow Hills story but this whole series was definitely “5 star trophy shelf” worthy.

Thank you again @authormegalivien for gifting me this opportunity to read Haunt as an ARC.

We are back in Shadow Hills for the third time, and our monster boyfriend is to die for 😉

I liked how the romance was mixed in with the lightness of the plot, it doesnt feel overbearingly smutty. Like we know these people are going to end up together so we don't have that over the top love bombing thrown in our faces. The time is just spent getting to know our characters and their relationship at the start of their budding romance.

The connection between Kennedy and Theo is so tender and heartfelt, I was swooning right alongside our FMC.
Shadow Hills remains the quaint and lovely small town that I have loved for 3 books now, and the ever growing cast of relationships is unique and enchanting.

I loved this story! Kennedy and Theo are so charming and sweet, I was grinning for most of my reading time. I can't help but wish that we got more story 😩 but isn't that always the way.

If you are looking for a slow burn PNR then this is the book for you. Haunt follows Kennedy, a newly created ghost, and her transition into her new life. There are some funny moments but it also explores a lot of themes around grief & regret. Don't worry, it's not depressing but rather hopeful. Both the main characters have a lot of regret and guilt about their former lives. However, they discover each other & that they have the opportunity to "live" in the afterlife. It's a comforting thought that there's more out there. I really enjoy Meg Alivien's writing style & her characters are relatable. We've all known people like the characters she creates. This is a cozy, very low spice romance that's perfect for a quick read, a book hangover cure, or something to bridge the gap before your next dark thriller or romance.

Haunt by Meg Alivien was such a fun and cozy read. I ended up finishing it in one night because I just couldn’t put it down.

I really enjoyed Theodore’s POV—since he isn’t from the modern era, his voice feels distinct from the other characters in a way that adds a lot to the story. I also appreciated Kennedy’s character and her struggle with reading comprehension, which was something I personally connected with.

The romance felt sweet and natural. Theodore has that broody energy romance readers love, but he’s also open to letting Kennedy in, which made their relationship progression feel healthy rather than rushed.

Overall, this was a lighthearted, cozy spooky romance that was so much fun to read. While Howl didn’t fully win me over, the last two books in the Monster Boyfriend Series absolutely made the journey worth it.

Welcome back to Shadow Hills, bb, where the paranormal and normal live in cozy chaos. I was so excited for this book after reading Howl and Hunt. The covers of these books alone are to die for. So, let's dive in.

What happens when you die and your soul wants to go back to the last place you felt safe and comfortable? You end up in Shadow Hills trying to find a way to stay on the earthly plane and not phasing away. And then you find yourself sharing a house with another ghost who has been dead much longer and is much more moody than you.

This was cozy, cute, but fast. I feel like I still have so many questions, like why did our FMC die, why does she recognize the son of one of the owners of the cafe, and more. It was just too fast for me. But I still love it and am so glad they found each other.

This was a good book. I loved the idea of it. My only thing is I had so many questions. Some where answered but there were a few left unanswered. Maybe some of those questions were answered in the first two books. I'm not sure. This was my first book in the series and I did enjoy it and definitely plan on checking out the first two. I wished it went into more depth into the afterlife. This is a quick cozy read with insta love vibes but not really lol. You'll probably understand what I mean after reading.
She's the outgoing one and he is shy and reserved. She's new to the afterlife and he becomes her teacher. She wants to explore and he doesn't leave the house. Can she break him out of his shell?

This was such an amazing and well written book!

It was refreshing to get to read a paranormal romance of Ghosts. I feel like most books don’t eve go in depth with them. The originality of the ghosts and how they live their lives made me wish that I could be a ghosts after I pass, like I want this book as my afterlife.

Even though the book is short, there’s character growth and background stories for both of the main characters. No details felt out of place, absolutely everything added to the story. It was also nice getting to see past characters in this book!

First and foremost, thank you to the author for allowing me to read this story early, in exchange for an honest review.

This is an interesting one. When I first read the Blurb, I was so intrigued, as this was the type of story I'd never read before. It was cute, cozy, and quite comforting. It was a quick read, with easy writing and short chapters, what's not too love! Kennedy is definitely a one of a kind character. So full of life...yet in the after life. Weird way of putting it, but that was exactly it. Theo...he had my heart. Overall, a cozy, quick read, that I would recommend.

Loved being back in Shadow Hills and meeting Theo officially and being introduced to a brand new character Kennedy. I love that they were both ghosts and that Theo was teaching her about the transition. Theo seems quiet and reserved because of his past, seeing Kennedy bring this bright, loving energy was such a good contrast.

I really enjoyed Kennedy’s positive, curious outlook on the after life and how that helped to bring Theo out his shell. The sweet gestures between them were adorable. This one is more emotional and more of a slow burn. I loved that they got their own HEA that was perfect for each of them and as a couple. The spice hits at the end and may be short but very steamy.

A huge thank you to Meg for the early copy! I am absolutely loving the paranormal MMC’s of the Monster Boyfriends series, they are so much fun!

This was a very sweet end to the Monster Boyfriends series! I've been curious about Theo since the beginning, and I'm glad he finally got his time to shine! I also really really liked Kennedy, I think she may be my favorite FMC in this series! Obviously, since this one in particular is ghost romance, there are some tough subjects that get talked about. I think it was very nicely done 💜 If you need a cozy monster romance, this series does a great job!

this book is the last of the series and i have to say that it was really good it was emotional and funny and you had two ghost that didn't know what to do with each other.

because Kennedy was still trying to figure out everything and didn't know what happened to her all she had was lost time.

then there is Theo he has lived a lone in the same house forever and he don't know how to take someone in his space.

but as time goes on they both develop feeling that they didn't see coming and find out that they was meant to be together .
