A Charlie Kingsley/Redemption Detective Agency Crossover Christmas Cozy Mystery Anthology! Also include recipes!
In this charming Christmas cozy mystery collection, you get not one but TWO Christmas mysteries--one from the Charlie Kingsley Mystery series (Secret Santa Murder) and one from The Redemption Detective Agency (The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf).
Even better, the characters in both series will make a crossover appearance in the other mystery.
Here's a peek of each
Secret Santa A Secret Santa party goes off the rails when a guest is murdered after opening their gift. Can Charlie get to the bottom of who did it in this locked door mystery?
The Mysterious Case of the Dead Emily and the gang take on a case to help a young mother get over her childhood Christmas trauma. Can they go back in time and solve the mystery of a dead elf to save Christmas before it's too late?
A USA Today Bestselling, award-winning author, Michele taught herself to read at 3 years old because she wanted to write stories so badly. It took some time (and some detours) but now she does spend much of her time writing stories. Mystery stories, to be exact. They're clean and twisty, and range from psychological thrillers to cozies, with a dash of romance and supernatural thrown into the mix. If that wasn't enough, she posts lots of fun things on her blog, including short stories, puzzles, recipes and more, at MPWNovels.com.
Michele grew up in Wisconsin, (hence why all her books take place there), and currently lives there after spending nearly 30 years living in the mountains of Prescott, Arizona, with her husband and southern squirrel hunter Cassie.
When she's not writing, she's usually reading, hanging out with her dog, or watching the Food Network and imagining she's an awesome cook. (Spoiler alert, she's not. Luckily for the whole family, Mr. PW is in charge of the cooking.)
Redemption, Wisconsin, is a very interesting town with a unique history. Both the Charlie Kingsley Mysteries and The Redemption Detective Agency Series are set there in the 1990s. In this book, the author gives us a Christmas story from each series.
Secret Santa Murder features characters from the Charlie Kingsley Mystery Series. Charlie’s friend Pat hosts a Christmas party that goes completely off the rails when some people are unable to attend, and their replacements seem to miss that the party was a potluck and that they were to bring a Secret Santa gift for a specific person. When one of the guests dies shortly after opening his gift, Officer Brandon Wyle, a guest at the event, with Charlie’s assistance, works to reveal which guest is the killer.
The second story features characters from The Redemption Detective Agency Series, and characters from the other series make cameo appearances. In The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf, a young mom has been tormented for years and has been unable to enjoy the holidays with her family due to a horrific event that occurred when she went to visit Santa as a child. Santa’s elf dropped dead before her eyes. She asks the agency to help her get the details she needs to move on before another Christmas season goes by.
Both novellas can be read in one evening, one right after the other, as they do connect. Fans of the series will enjoy that the protagonists from each series finally meet. Holiday spirit reigns in both stories, as do laugh-out-loud, shake-your-head moments; this author delivers with such ease. The mysteries are cozy and clever, too. New readers of both series will get a nice snapshot of the happenings in Redemption. Trust me, you will want to read more. The best thing is that they are written to be read in any order.
Entertaining and fun, A Mysterious Christmas Collection makes a great gift. Get one for yourself and copies for the readers on your list.
I voluntarily reviewed an Advance Reader Copy. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. Thank you to the author for providing me with an ARC.
A Mysterious Christmas Collection brings together two delightful holiday mysteries. Secret Santa Murder from the Charlie Kingsley series and The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf from The Redemption Detective Agency. These novellas had both casts crossing paths in a festive twist. In Secret Santa Murder, a simple gift exchange turns deadly when a guest is killed right after opening their present, and Charlie must figure out who is responsible. The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf follows Emily and her team as they try to help a young mother confront a childhood Christmas trauma by solving the strange case of a dead elf before the holiday magic slips away.
This was such a fun way to connect both series, especially for the holidays, and I loved seeing Charlie and Emily finally meet along with the rest of the characters. Both mysteries were packed with holiday spirit and just the right touch of murder, one involving a deadly Secret Santa gift and the other a very unusual elf mystery. They were cozy, festive and the perfect quick novellas for this time of year. I really enjoyed how each story gave us the familiar characters and charming mysteries fans love. My favorite was Secret Santa Murder, but both were great. If you want a warm and slightly murderous holiday read, add these to your TBR and enjoy them with a cup of tea or a glass of wine and some cookies.
The Charlie Kingsley Mystery Series: "Secret Santa Murder" Charlie and Pat's Secret Santa Party goes awry when one of the guests suddenly dies, leaving the remaining invitees as suspects in a murder.
The Redemption Detective Agency: "The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf" Emily and the Redemption Detective Agency are hired to solve a cold case involving Santa and his elf.
I can't think of a better Christmas present! The winter holiday season in Redemption creates the town's usual deep-seated mysteries for our favourite sleuths to solve. Both stories have the established characters we've come to love. And each ends with an adorable surprise.
The Grinchiest Scrooge will find pleasure in reading this compilation. It's one of the best presents ever given!
Thank you to Michele Pariza Wacek and BookSirens for the opportunity to read this digital ARC. As always, my opinions are my own, honest and true.
Two short stories to brighten your day and kick off the Holiday Season. The first story is about a secret Santa and it is hilarious. The second is about a dead elf. Both are just what we need to get the season rolling. Enjoy with a cup of hot chocolate and a holiday cookie. Highly Recommended.
A Mysterious Christmas Collection by Michele PW is two short cozy mysteries set in Redemption WI during the holidays. I received an advance review copy and I am leaving this review voluntarily. The first story, Secret Santa Murder is Charlie Kingsley mystery. In this story Charlie, Pat, Wyle, and the gang are at a holiday party when one of the guests dies under mysterious circumstances. It is up to Charlie and Wyle to solve the case. The second story, The Mysterious Case of A Dead Elf, is a Redemption Detective Agency mystery. In this story, Emily, Nick, Tilde, Mildred, and Nora all work together to solve the cold case of a Santa's elf, who mysterious died during a mall visit with Santa 30 years prior. What I enjoyed about both books is how the characters from both series crossed over and made appearances in each story. As usual for most cozy mysteries, both stories had twists and turns that kept the reader guessing. There was also a hint of romance between Charlie and Wyle, and Emily and Nick in both books, which for anyone who reads these series, will say it is about time!! While these stories are both based a mystery series, do you not have to have read the two series to enjoy these stories. However, I do recommend you read both series to enjoy more adventures with Charlie and Emily. If you enjoy Holiday themed books and cozy mysteries, I highly recommend you read this Mysteries Collection.
Thank you Lindsey from Word Nerd Author Services and @themichelepw for a chance to read and review this ARC. I am so thankful.
A Mysterious Christmas Collection was such a fun, cosy read. It is two Christmassy mysteries in one and they are both easy to fly through, perfect for evenings when you just want something seasonal and murdery without committing to a full novel.
Secret Santa Murder was my favourite. A Secret Santa party goes badly wrong and Charlie has to work out who turned the festive fun into a crime scene. I liked the mix of small town gossip, awkward party moments and proper whodunnit clues. I did not guess the killer and the hint of romance was cute rather than cheesy.
The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf feels a bit more emotional. Emily and her wonderfully odd Aunt Tilde are helping a woman deal with a really painful Christmas memory, and it actually hit me harder than I expected. There is still plenty of humour and mystery, but there is also a nice bit of heart and I enjoyed seeing Emily and Nick getting closer.
Overall, this is cosy mystery comfort reading. Short, festive, a little bit twisty, and it even throws in some cookie recipes at the end. Ideal to read with a hot chocolate and some biscuits while you pretend you are not ignoring your Christmas to do list.🫣❣️🎄📖❄️⭐️
This was exactly what I needed - two festive mysteries that went down as easily as hot cocoa with marshmallows! Michele Pariza Wacek delivers a delightful Christmas collection featuring both her Charlie Kingsley and Redemption Detective Agency series.
Secret Santa Murder was my favorite of the two. Charlie finds herself at Pat's chaotic Secret Santa party where everything that could go wrong does - including murder. I loved how the case unfolded with genuine surprise twists. The nut allergy angle was cleverly done, and I honestly didn't see the killer coming until the big reveal. Plus, there's some sweet romantic tension with Officer Wyle that had me grinning.
The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf features Emily and her eccentric Aunt Tilde investigating a decades-old mystery that's been haunting their client since childhood. This one had more heart to it - I felt genuinely moved by Mindy's trauma and her desire to finally give her children a proper Christmas. The resolution was bittersweet but satisfying, and I enjoyed seeing Nick's growing connection with Emily.
The books were quick, engaging reads perfect for the busy holiday season. I'll definitely be trying the bonus cookie recipes at the end, especially those Merry Christmas Butter Cookies!
Overall, this is perfect cozy mystery comfort reading. Pour yourself some tea, grab a cookie, and settle in for some festive fun with a side of murder!
I want to extend my heartfelt gratitude to @themichelepw for the #gifted e-book!
This captivating read features two delightful cozy mysteries that perfectly intertwine characters from the Charlie Kingsley Mystery series and The Redemption Detective Agency series. Set against the charming backdrop of Redemption, Wisconsin, these stories introduce a cast of wonderfully quirky characters that you will immediately fall in love with.
Each mystery was a pleasure to read, and the crossover of beloved characters added an exhilarating layer of excitement. With the holiday season upon us, these enchanting tales not only entertained but also evoked a delightful sense of festive cheer. The inclusion of two irresistible cookie recipes at the end was a perfect finishing touch to the stories.
I thoroughly enjoyed these novellas and anticipate diving deeper into the lives of these captivating characters in future installments! This book is available now and on Kindle Unlimited.
This was an ARC Christmas edition of two small short stories! The first was like a game of clue but at a Secret Santa party! I really felt like I was solving the murder along with the main character, Charlie. I enjoyed this short story too and the way the author gave clues as to “who dun it” with the interviewing of the guest! It’s short but a great read to pass the time with and add a twist to the holiday season! The second story was not my favorite but I did find for a short story I was pulled into it. The plot seemed a little far off though to be very believable, in my opinion. But if you just want something quick and Christmas-ish to read on a rainy night these are both great options!
ARC Book Review A Mysterious Christmas Collection A Novel Written By Michele Pariza Wacek Fiction - Cozy Mystery Published November 2025 184 Pages ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
This was the first time I have read this author’s writing. This collection contains two cozy mysteries from two of the author’s mystery series.
The first mystery, Secret Santa Murder, is from The Charlie Kingsley Mysteries. This story involves the death of a guest at a Secret Santa Christmas party.
The second mystery, The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf, is from The Redemption Mysteries Series. This mystery involves a cold case from years ago. The death of the elf includes a drunk Santa and fighting Santas.
Cozy mysteries are always fun to read. The addition of the holiday season adds an extra layer of fun. The author has included two cookie recipes at the end of the book.
A Mysterious Christmas Collection was a cute double feature of Christmas mysteries! If you're looking forward to the Christmas season, reading these two short stories that intertwine characters and setting, will get you in the holiday spirit. I've not previously read anything by Michele Pariza Wacek; however after reading A Mysterious Christmas Collection, I am encouraged to read novels about The Redemption Detective Agency and the Charlie Kingsley Mysteries. These two short stories combine a little mystery, a little murder, a little romance, and a little holiday cheer.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Secret Santa Murder A secret Santa party turns deadly. Is this an accident or revenge? Charlie and Wyle start sleuthing at the party. This person is/was a gambler and borrowed money from many friends , usually without repayments. So whodunit and how? A shocker to the core! See if you can guess.
Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf. Emily and Aunt Tilde want to help a friend who was traumatized as a child, to overcome it for her children's sakes. They want to take on a 30 year old cold case of the dead elf. I was shocked and amazed at Emily's sleuthing skills- she solves it! Guess who?!?! I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest review.
This is a collection of two books in one. Both are delightful stories to read, filled with the sights, sounds, and chaos of the holidays. Anytime people get together, there’s always some mix-ups in communication- especially when there’s food involved. Michele Pariza Wacek is able to capture and communicate the friendships and complicated relationships so well; you may feel as if you’re in the same room as the characters, not just an outsider looking in. Excellent reading!
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I’d read the very first Charlie Kingsley book several years ago, but this story duo just sounded so fun and festive I had to borrow it from KU. I knew Charlie and Pat from the first story but didn’t know anyone in the second, only the names since Emily and Aunt Tilde made a super brief appearance in the first story.
But I soon found I really liked the Redemption Detective Agency characters a lot, and now I’d love to start that series too. I already have the first book so hopefully soon! I really enjoyed how both these stories ended, so fun!
I am a big fan of Michele PW, I was lucky enough to get this as an advanced reader copy. I really enjoyed both of these short mystery stories. I know the characters well from reading previous books, I loved how the characters intertwined in each book. There are some twists and turns, of course and I found them to be perfect to snuggle up under a warm blanket for a quick read.
This is a mixture of two quirky mysteries. One where a man is killed by nut allergic reaction during a Christmas gift exchange and another where a man was poisoned by mistake. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I love any Christmas book but have 2 short story mysteries was a great time.
These stories were quick and intriguing, using all of the pages to the max. The outcomes were unexpected and the stories felt full, which is hard to do in such a short story.
A Mysterious Christmas Collection by Michele Pariza Wacek. I really enjoy reading all of her books. This author creates characters that are well written and her mysteries keep me thinking and trying to solve before the big reveal. Secret Santa Murder us a Charlie Kingsley mystery. The second book is The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf stars the Redemption r Agency. I think that this collection is a great read to bring in the Christmas season. I received an arc for free and am leaving my review voluntarily.
I just adore the Redemption Agency, Emily, Charlie and all the ladies that are part of these little groups. They have such wonderful mysteries and they are so much fun to read about. These were really great crossover stories and I loved every page.I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I always enjoy this author's books. I was so surprised when Charlie just figured it all out because I had not. The two short stories were fun. It's so amazing how people think they know something when there's absolutely no evidence to support it. I think we all do that sometimes. These stores were definitely good. I enjoyed reading them.
An exciting boxset with great characters, lots of suspense and an entertaining story line which is action packed and unputdownable. I enjoyed this ARC copy which I received via Booksirans and recommend these books to other readers.
Putting the murders aside, no reading escape could get any more Christmas-y than Michele Pariza Wacek's A MYSTERIOUS CHRISTMAS. From the merry book cover, to the festive bright sweaters that adorn every character (pets included), to the heaps of holiday cookies, this pairing of two cozy mystery short stories is sure to please readers looking for quick-hit seasonal reading with a dash of whodunit.
Each of the two short mysteries is a companion story to the author's The Redemption Detective Agency and Charlie Kingsley Mysteries series. Given that both series share the same town as the setting, there is a lot of cross-over with characters from each. This makes reading A MYSTERIOUS CHRISTMAS COLLECTION especially fun for those who are already familiar with the series.
Readers unfamiliar with either series will likely be a bit overwhelmed by the number of characters to keep up with. It takes a minute to separate the regular, core characters from the peripherals, and about the time it's worked out, the story is over. As such, this set of stories is probably most satisfying for those readers who have some background from previous stories, but there's plenty to love for the rest of us. (Including two cookie recipes and samples of two series books!)
The author has a gift for writing rich descriptions of scenes and adding perfect details to convey character traits: the hint of a blush on a cheek; the drop of sweat at the hairline; the shifting eyes. Wacek's style is engaging, and she manages to present and solve two distinct mysteries, with plenty of bells and whistles, within just a few limited pages, which is no easy feat. She clearly cares about the end product because the book was really cleanly edited, which seals the deal that her other books are worth exploring.
For readers looking for respite from the chaos as we count down to Christmas, A MYSTERIOUS CHRISTMAS COLLECTION is a great solution for tamping down any Grinch-like inclinations and ramping up the holiday spirit.

Well, this was fun. I was given this ARC through BookSirens.
Two cozy Christmas stories and a teaser chapter for the book, The Mysterious Case of the Missing Motive. The first book of The Redemption Detective Agency Series.
Back to the main event. The first short is for The Charlie Kingsley Mystery series - Secret Santa Murder. I’ve not read any of this series yet but I will now! The story starts out at a secret Santa party for a group of friends. There are issues - not everyone could come, barely anyone brought a dish for the pot luck, there weren’t quite enough secret Santa gifts! Most of all an unlucky, not so nice, guest is offed at the party. What ensues is a funny and blundered “investigation” into the death. Lots of twists and turns until the murderer is revealed.
What I really liked was how well the characters were developed in a short period of time. I felt the character backgrounds were well developed and I rooted for the investigators. I really didn’t like a few of the guests. One irritated the heck out of me! Just like life. The simmering, blossoming romance between Detective Wylie and Charlie is sweet and realistic.
The second short story - The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf. Here we are introduced to The Redemption Detective Agency. A loose collection of characters corralled by Aunt Tilde - quite the eccentric lady. There is some crossover with a few persons from the first short story. I liked the crossover and it helped ground me. Where I feel this story faltered is I don’t think the characters weren’t well developed. I didn’t get that feeling of caring for many of them. Although, there were several that were made to be unlikeable and that was achieved! The investigation moved fairly well in its progression. I just got distracted easily while reading. I’d still try the series though.
If you want a fun cozy Christmassy read this is a good way to start the season off!!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.
I opened this book intending to skim the first page before bed, and next thing I knew, I was eight chapters in and very much awake. The writing flows so easily that it’s one of those stories you glide through without noticing how many pages you’ve covered.
The characters were instantly engaging. Within a few chapters, I already had people I liked, people I didn’t, and a couple who made me laugh. Despite the short length, there were quite a few characters, but the ones who mattered felt distinct enough that it didn’t get too confusing.
Pat was my favorite from the moment she appeared. For the majority of people who haven't watched this show, this comparison would mean nothing, but for some odd reason, Pat reminded me so much of Pam from Gavin & Stacey that I ended up hearing Pam’s voice in every one of her lines, which made the whole story even more entertaining.
On the opposite end, Amelia irritated me instantly and only became more obnoxious as things went on.
I didn’t realize this book was connected to an existing series until after I’d already started reading. Even so, it was easy to follow because the author gave just enough background to keep everything clear without overwhelming the story. You can definitely read it as a standalone, but it did make me curious to check out the earlier books.
The collection includes two stories. I enjoyed the first one more. It felt faster, smoother, and more tightly paced. The second one was still well-written, but the back-and-forth conversations dragged a bit and didn’t move the plot along as much.
Overall, it was a cozy, easy Christmas mystery, with some witty characters and a writing style that feels grounded and relatable.

⭐ 3.8 Stars ⭐ Book Review: A Mysterious Christmas Collection by Michele Pariza Wacek 📅 Pub Date: November 19, 2025
A Mysterious Christmas Collection features two cozy Christmas mystery novellas that are sure to put you in the holiday spirit almost as quickly as a Hallmark movie.
The first story, “Secret Santa Murder,” is part of the Charlie Kingsley Mystery series. What begins as a festive Secret Santa party quickly spirals out of control, last-minute cancellations lead the hostess to invite an eclectic group of guests, none of whom bother to bring a covered dish to this holiday potluck. The evening takes a deadly turn when one of the guests is murdered. It’s up to Detective Wyle and Charlie to unravel the mystery and uncover who the Secret Santa killer really is. This story kept me guessing until the end, and I really enjoyed the quirky characters. I’ll definitely be adding the Charlie Kingsley Mystery series to my TBR.
The second story, “The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf,” follows Emily, Nick, and the rest of the Redemption Detective Agency as they work to solve a 30-year-old cold case involving the death of an elf. This novella delivers twists and turns you won’t see coming and is a fun, bingeable read. My only criticism is an editing issue in Chapter 4, where the narrative seems out of order, the characters go from standing at a suspect’s door in one paragraph to suddenly being in a library discussing checking out books. This transition was confusing and pulled me out of the story.
Despite this, both novellas were enjoyable and festive reads. If you’re looking for quick mysteries to get you into the Christmas mood, I highly recommend A Mysterious Christmas Collection for any mystery or holiday enthusiast. So, grab a cup of hot cocoa or a glass of wine and add this one to your Kindle or Amazon cart!
Two lovely short stories included in this collection. The first involves a dead party guest at a secret Santa party full of disasters. Charlie and Brandon are on the case and as tension increases as they question the guests, sparks also fly between them. Will their status as colleagues change to something more? As the case unfolds they work their way through all the clues to find the killer.
The second story brings us Emily, Aunt Tilde, Mildred, Nora from the Redemption Detective agency along with the handsome attorney, Nick. As the agency misfits search for the killer of a cold case involving a dead Santa’s Elf, sparks also fly between Emily and Nick and leave us wondering if they will recognize their feelings for each other. Emily does a lot of eye rolling as the wild theories from Aunt Tilde, Mildred and Nora abound, (leaving us with questions of how these folks actually managed real jobs for pay). As Emily follows the clues independently of their wild theories they find the killer(s) and likely solve not one but two deaths.
Both stories left me wanting more of all these very likable characters, even the obnoxious Mildred and Roger.
Thank you to BookSirens and the author for allowing me to read these cute cozy mysteries. I received an advance copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Two amazing stories in one book! After reading the first book of the Redemption Detective Agency series, I knew I had to sign up for this Christmas collection. I absolutely loved these two cozy mysteries and reading a story from the Charlie Kingsley Mystery as well as being reintroduced to the Redemption Detective Agency.
The Secret Santa Murder takes place at a Christmas party amongst friends. During their secret Santa gift opening, one of their guests died suddenly after eating a box of mysterious chocolates. It is up to Charlie to crack this case and get justice for their friend.
The second story, The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf, was a case that happened decades ago during a Santa meet and greet. One of the elves working that day keeled over and died and nobody ever got to the bottom of the case. Leave it to the Redemption Detective Agency to solve the mystery!
Both stories are the perfect reads if you like holiday themed cozy mysteries. I loved the original characters that I already knew, as well as the new ones that were brought into these stories. Aunt Tilde will forever be one of my favorite characters because she is so whitty and “matter-of-fact”.
If you have time to squeeze in another Christmas read by the end of the year, I highly recommend this one 🎄
Two wonderful mysteries are packed inside this book. Both are interesting and more than a little different. I enjoyed the crossover with the characters, and the yummy recipes are always a plus.
The first story was The Secret Santa Murder. Who would ever think a secret Santa gift could be deadly? When a group of friends gather together, the evening is not going to end as they had hoped. One person is dead and all of them are suspects. It has to be someone in the room. Charlie Kingsley assists with trying to weed out the truth from the lies. The red herrings are plentiful and the surprise ending was a bonus.
The second story was The Mysterious Case Of The Dead Elf. The Redemption Detective Agency has been hired by a lady who cannot even enjoy Christmas because of a traumatic experience from her childhood. This is a cold case mystery, a very cold case. I had faith in the crew to find the answers. Solving mysteries make them happy, even cold ones.
I love a good cozy mystery, and being set at Christmas was a plus. Even though there was murder and mayhem, there was also festivity and cheer as well.
Thank you to the author for this ARC. I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I love reading mysteries based at Christmas time and so I looked forward to this collection of two stories from overlapping series. I enjoyed them. They were short and the mysteries were resolved simply, and yet I felt that the stories were too frenetic. Maybe it was the fact that the mysteries had to happen and be resolved in such a short span of pages, but I think it was honestly the characters. There were simply too many of them, and most of them contributed nothing to the story. In the second story “ The Mysterious Case of the Dead Elf” one of the characters, Mildred, was so sure that a certain character did it that she spent the entire story ready to go and arrest them. It got annoying quite quickly. I never felt like I knew any of the characters. This might be because the series was established before these stories took place, and I started in the middle, but I don’t think so. I think that for a 75 page story, six or more characters are just too many to do any of them justice. It causes the story to hop around and they are just too short to do that.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. If someone dropped a copy of a different story in my lap, I would probably read it, but I wouldn’t go out of my way to get one.
